In your opinion, which are the best and the worst acts Snape committed?
the best would be saving so many people at great cost. the worst would be joining the death eater

One time I read this like incomplete fic on Ao3 about a muggle verse where sirius was famous actor and regulus and snape are uni roommates, and snape has 0 film knowledge. (it was a sirius and snape fic)
Anyways the fic had a bunch of fake dog named films that sirius acted in. And I remember one so clearly which was called the power of dog (because in the fix that's the only one he watched and fell asleep to) and seeing it again on Netflix as an actual film took me for a fucking whiplash.
Anyways yall work hard and mad respect.
thank you :)

Hey there guick question regarding boggarts and since the snape Fandom has managed to give a decent explanation of canon events without entangling it excessively to fanon or events that straight up didn't happen at the Hp universe.
I want to ask if boggarts represents the person's fear in actuality or metaphorically. For instance Harry's fear was the demontors, but like in fbawtft Crimes against dumbys ex The bogart seemed to be metaphorically represented atleast to me. And in POA lupin fear was like the moon but I thought his fear was being a werewolf. So why didn't it not show either his own self or even like another fucking werewolf.
Thanks hope this made some sense.
it represents metaphorical fear but it can also represent the actual fear. it depends on the person. the boggart became a spider with ron, a dementor with harry, the corpses of her family with molly, and snape with neville. snape was defeated by being dressed up like neville's grandmother which to me shows what neville's real fear is.
both snape and augusta are hard on neville. augusta like the rest of neville's family had high expectations for neville and we're talking about a family that went to dangerous lengths to prove that he is wizard. neville came to hogwarts already doubting himself and things didn't get any easier. snape similarly had high expectations for his students (no matter what he said in his opening speech) and he pushed neville to prove that he has some (or any) proficiency in potions which made neville more anxious than he already was and caused him to perform poorly. in sprout's classes, neville flourished because she's a gentler teacher, the kind that a child like neville needs.
does this mean that neville has a traumatising phobia of snape? no, because it's repeatedly stated that neville was nervous of everything from the first book. snape's teaching methods failed miserably because of that. i don't think neville took those classes as badly as people think. he didn't like snape or potions but he likely saw those hours in the dungeons as bad rather than something as life altering as trauma.
still it does reveal that neville's genuine fear is that he won't measure up to other people's expectations.

And what's more these antis are furious that JK "ruined James' character by making him a bully" lmao I can't. They're whole argument hinged on the fact that he and Sirius and Peter all decided to become animagi for Remus, ya know their FRIEND, and somehow that should make him an angel or something? "It just doesn't make sense that he'd bully Snape or anyone given his other actions" um bc he's a person? Bc that's how his character was made canonically? Cry about it? But by "making him" bully Snape this ruins his character bc apparently they can't handle him doing something morally reprehensible to some poor, groomed, unattractive friendless kid or anyone else I think is mostly who they're talking about bc let's be honest these kinds of antis LOVE to sweep Snapes genuine trauma under the rug bc he turns out to be a dick later (partially bc of those actions but I digress) bc that means james can't hold the sainthood of light and feminism they've made up in their head. It's so funny to see these kinds of antis struggle to comprehend that their uwu precious #1 feminist pretty rich privileged boy isn't actually a wonderful perfect human being. Say what you want about the Snape fandom but 99% of it acknowledges that Snape is a dickhead and doesn't try to sweep his bad actions away like some James stans or certain marauder stans do
they don't seem to understand even the simplest relationships

One of the funniest things I think I've come across on the snater side of TikTok is the point several people have tried to make that jk gave Snape a sad backstory to "give him an excuse to be a dick" like what?? Like none of his backstory is meant to excuse it's meant to EXPLAIN why his motives/actions were so muddled and shadowed before this point in the series mostly bc this is a series told from a child's POV! Like they forgot how storytelling works? If you don't like the decisions made by the author that's perfectly fine but to treat his whole backstory as a way for the author to excuse the character's shitty actions is pretty presumptuous and kinda morally arrogant in it's assumption I think
antis are so angry that jkr bothered to develop snape. they're genuinely furious. they want that development and plot relevancy to go to the marauders instead. their argument is rather weak because like you said, it's meant to explain snape. his backstory was one of the few jkr fully developed early on which is why he is the most consistent character book to book. that's one of the reasons antis hate him.

“Remus is better than severus bc he could have been bitter and let the past ruin his life uwu”
Severus was preparing for war since he was around 17. First w V, then with D. When V poofed, D specifically said that they couldnt be sure that V was dead, and they kept preparing for a war they weren’t sure was going to happen. Thats 24/7 hypervigilence and hyperawareness and plans a thru z of failsafes, active defense for 20-ish years while being a full time teacher to an army of civilian puberty machines.
I’m NOT saying lupin had it easy, as a werewolf in a culture that wants him dead. I’m saying that he has been violently domesticated to be obedient and quiet in a perpetual state of fear, living with and depending on the kindness of people who could kill him at any time, ever since sirius lured a child into the shrieking shack while he wasn’t lucid and could have murdered someone and gotten killed executed.
I’m saying that i interpret this chain of events and remus’ primary defense for almost 20 years to be meek and submissive and as non-threatening as he can, to avoid being put down.
I’m saying that there is a vast difference in mindset and conditioning, over a period of 20 odd years, between aggressively and quietly preparing to fight and win a war in the shadows, and leading a quiet unassuming civilian life with citizens who can legally murder you at any moment.
I’m saying that severus had to cultivate controlled aggression and ruthlessness, and sacrifice everything at the drop of a hat, and remus had to stomp down every single natural mammalian survival and self-defense instinct. Being territorial or angry or god forbid resentful at being treated like a walking time bomb, that served no purpose.
Remus seems to some like a coward, and it’s true, bc he’s a CIVILIAN. We’re all cowards, and it’s not a bad thing bc we want to live our lives in a community and fit in and be safe. Severus is a soldier first and a teacher last; his first priority is that his charges are Not Dead, not Happy And Stable.
(Unlike mcgonagall, now there’s a professor with rotten perspective, but that’s a story for another day)
Im saying there is nothing about remus that you should dare romanticize. He’s not a perfect boo with a tragic life who remained pure and sweet despite his hardships. He’s a fucking 35 year old (ish when introduced) grown ass man with a severe but manageable condition in a world who wants him exterminated. He had shitty roommates as a kid that did more harm than good with his self esteem and moral compass.
He is what i would call “pathetic” in that his entire life is a fucking inescapable tragedy and instead of giving him the compassion he deserves, 90% of remus fans will coo at how he “isn’t bitter or mean or angry and got over his problems” dont make me laugh
Rant over ps (cat gif)

Hello,I am somehow losing "hope"? I assume that is an appropriate term, yes, hope in Severus Snape pairings. The ship that I somehow felt worked was Snarry. But I have just reached an understanding or a point that I believe that no one can truly have a relationship with Severus Snape.
Along with the way that Harry is written does not sit well with me at all. How Jk Rowling wrote a traumatised boy and then how fic writers went with the idea. Snape and Harry could have much more
Anyway, seems like the death of an era for me.
Good day and thank you for reading through my ramblings.
yeah i can't blame you. i've gotten accustomed to thinking of severus as a solitary figure

Hi! Do you know any good Snily fics where James is an abusive husband and Lily manages to leave him?
you'll have to ask @snapefics they'll help you

Not 100% sure this is canon compliant, but I have a headcanon that Snape spent a few days on remand in Azkaban for being a Death Eater until Dumbledore vouched for him, and it almost destroyed him because Lily's death was so recent...
i accepted this as canon so much i can't even remember if it's in the books or not

snape´s skin is described as sallow, I know some decide to interpret this as him being a person of color (tho we all know that rowling made 95% of her characters white) and I am not against it, but could be possible snape is just sick? even as a kid he is described as a plant in the dark and so on, he could have liver problems or something like that which...is another level of fucked up
it sounds like he doesn't spend time outside which probably contributes to his depression

One way I could see Snily or even just friendship of Severus & Lily surviving in the sense if all the extreme Relationship Doom Flags dont happen (so, the Slur, maybe some stuff about the War, DYINGlol) but their friendship dies out quietly toward the end of Hogwarts but not going out in a burning ball of Teenage Fuckup & hurt feelings, but possibly resurging afterwards as adults via catching up and such. Thoughts?
i feel the same way. i don't know if their friendship can survive graduation but if things settle down, they can reconnect as adults.
