Looking to the horizon
How much of one’s life is how we believe it to be
How often do we confuse reality with fantasy
Turn a blind eye to what is right before us
In order to maintain harmony
Some form of control
How often do we reassure ourselves that things will change
Be better
Different even
Why do we elect to trust over and over again
Do we all have the same capacity for self- debasement
Humiliation
Or am I the only deluded one
Clinging to the wreckage of a lifeboat
The storms of life crashing over my head
Every orifice filled with salt water
The coldness of the water chilling my bones within my flesh
Yet
Still
I look to the horizon and hope
My salt encrusted lashes prised open
Straining for a glimpse of a flag on the horizon
A sign
That you care
That I matter
And yes
Should you bother to try to find me this time
I will reach out my hand and place it in yours
My heart will be full of gratitude
Obligation
Even hope
For I know my limitations
Understand my weaknesses
Tolerate too many disappointments
For that is the price I foolishly pay
To have you in my life.

I have been longing for a place
Where I can feel content and uncaged
No longer surrounded by people only speaking
Someone else's words,
Where ignorant clamor isn't all there is to be heard.
All I hope for is to be free
Of hateful ideas,
And those who wish them to be
No longer affected by the human tendency
To always try to find some way to disagree;
No longer vying for others to see what I see.
Sometimes living in this world
Is just simply hard to stand
Always having to seek out the good
While being engulfed by the bad.
Exceptional things never flourish here,
They just come and pass
Bringing me to the disappointing conclusion that
The place that I long for does not exist.
But then again, how could it?
In a world like this.
"Out of place"
