Shard's Lair

Hey there, I'm ShardUprising! I am a calm and friendly dragoness, age 28, who loves art, reading, gaming, music, cartoons and anime, and many other things. No seriously, I have way to many interests to list here. WAY TOO FREAKING MANY. As this was my very first blog, I have a lot of random stuff posted such as art and gaming stuff. Now I use it to share random, real life shenanigans.

Fun Fact

Pressing J while looking at a Tumblr blog or home feed will scroll up on the page, pressing K will scroll down. This is helpful considering a lot of the Tumblrs feature infinite scrolling.

I just thought of a fun crochet project I can do, but it involves crocheting a bunch of different amigurumi that I will need to find patterns for, although I may be able to make some of it from scratch, as I know how to make certain shapes without having to look at a pattern. I might also need to buy new yarn colors, as well as more of certain colors that I am very likely to run out of. Good thing yarn is fairly cheap, and both JoAnn and Michaels always have amazing coupons if I ever need them.

Just wish we weren’t having to deal with a pandemic right now so I could actually walk into the stores to get the yarn I need, because I can’t find certain colors on either of their websites for some reason and Wal-Mart doesn’t have nearly as many colors as they do.

I found out earlier today that our local Publix had a confirmed case of Covid-19, and Mom and I had to go there to buy more food just, er, yesterday? It’s either that, or the day before. I can’t remember.

Anyways, we are praying that neither of us caught it. I’m usually chilling by myself doing who-knows-what depending on my mood, but this house is kind of small, and there are four others living here. I’m pretty scared right now, as both me and my sister have *forgets what the correct term is* poor immune systems.

Augh I keep reblogging posts from my art blog to this one on accident!

In case you’re wondering what I’m talking about, I’ve been crocheting a lot lately. I share what I make on my art blog, then I reblog it with the link in case anyone wants to try it. Buuut I keep forgetting that I have to manually switch to my art blog while making the post, so the last two reblogs I did wound up here instead. I delete them fairly quickly but I thought I’d let you guys know in case it happens again. Thank goodness it’s a harmless mistake and easy to fix, otherwise I would have been panicking and probably super embarrassed!

Mom is giving me some extra money (even though I still owe her for my laptop) so I can get a new game, so tomorrow I will be buying Them’s Fightin’ Herds, and depending on how much money I have left I might also buy the soundtrack(s?) off of Bandcamp. It’ll give me something new to play during the pandemic without me having to shell out 300+ bucks for a new game system.

While I was in West Virginia I got to watch some new movies! Frozen 2 (fun fact: Mom put it on twice since I’ve been back in Florida), The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug were my favorites. Sadly we didn’t have time to watch the third Hobbit movie before I had to leave. I’ll have to rent it so I can finish the trilogy.

Alita: Battle Angel wasn’t as interesting to me, as I am not much of a fan of cyborgs/robots/etc, but it was still pretty cool, and Clue, that one movie based on the board game (which we also played together. I almost won), really amused me, especially near the end.

I also got to rewatch How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World with my aunt. She hadn’t seen it before but she seemed to enjoy it. I still gush over the night lights every time I see them, they’re just too darn precious.

I never got the chance to watch them back when they were released, but now that I have seen, and fallen in love with, the first 2 Hobbit movies, I am definitely going to be buying myself the whole trilogy. I still need to watch the Lord of the Rings trilogy as well (feel free to shame me), which I am pretty sure Mom might actually still have somewhere. I’ll have to ask her about it when she gets home from work.

So while I was in West Virginia we had to pick up one of my cousins from the airport. I forgot where he flew in from but he said he may have had the coronavirus, and yet we just had to hug him anyways, because we’re huggers *is kind of a joke even though it is technically true*. I have a somewhat poor immune system but as of typing this neither me nor my aunt, uncle, and other two cousins have shown any symptoms (af far as I know), and it has been nearly two weeks since he’s been back.

I’m not saying we’re in the clear just yet, but for now we are doing okay.

I know this has been done before but I am tempted to make a mage OC who carries around a staff that is actually a magical pencil or paint brush or something that can cast whatever spell/curse/etc. they draw with it. He/she would be either a dragon from my world or a never-before-seen-by-anyone-on-Earth creature, created in the deepest, darkest depths of my imagination…

(I got this idea from a jumbo Easter pencil with a pencil sharpener attached to it that Mom recently bought for me. It’s about the length of a magic wand in most magic/fantasy franchises, give or take a few inches.)

Mom fell in love with Animal Crossing: New Leaf! I visited her town to give her some bells and fruit and she was so into the game I had to keep reminding her to get ready for work. She got home a few minutes ago and made dinner and guess what she did? She immediately brought out her 2DS to play while she was eating!

My sister got a Nintendo Switch and Animal Crossing for her birthday, and she says I can play it when she’s not playing! I’ll post screenshots to my gaming blog when I start.

Earlier today my aunt told me how my uncle buys books but never actually reads them, and I said something along the lines of “How dare he! Doesn’t he know books are sacred?”

I was just being silly, of course.

While it’s on my mind, have I ever mentioned that I prefer physical books over ebooks? I will only ever purchase an ebook if it’s the only available format. Like the Wings of Fire Winglets ebooks. I think three of them were eventually made into a single physical book though.
