FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT
        “Genya, since it’s your first time, I may be good practice.” Everyone looked surprised that I picked the spunky younger brother of Sanemi, but it was his first night…and we had left him with our bags for most of the evening.
        “Ugh, yeah. Let’s practice.” His gusto faltered a little, and I couldn’t help but laugh. The DJ paused his set to make an announcement for a lost purse, and I noticed Mitsuri hurry off to the stage.
        “You seem to have changed your mind.” I wag my hand in front of my face, as Sanemi puts Genya in a headlock.  He ruffled Genya’s hair, and shook him around a bit, before launching into a lecture.
        “He’s just nervous, he doesn’t hang around the ladies often, this is good for him.” Sanemi let him go, and took a shot tube from Obanai. “Now go have fun and stay where I can see you.” Genya was shoved towards the table, and away from the bar. Kanae nudged me to follow him, and I obliged. It was okay, he was shy, and that’s all it was…
        Genya was mumbling to himself when he grabbed my hand to pull me behind him through the crowd. My heart fluttered when he looked back at me.
        Genya was the type of person who always kept me on my toes. This wasn’t the first time we had hung out, there had been many nights of poker and study sessions at his house. He would often join us for an hour or two before getting flustered and quitting due to not winning. He was a bit of a sore loser, but Sanemi was also NOT a humble winner.
We passed Kyo, who was holding a shot for Shinobu in between his lips. He was a diligent D.D, as soon as the shot was done, he took the other tube and did a second round for Shinobu, who was laughing and giggling at how easy he made it look. I glanced at the back of Genya’s head and wondered how our shots would go?
        “Don’t look so worried.” Genya twirled around as we approached the front doors. The sounds from the rowdy crowd and the bass-bumping speakers were almost muffled enough that I could hear my racing heart.
        “Oh, I’m not worried.” I forced my lips into a smile and bounced on the balls of my feet while nervously swirling the tube in my hand. “I just want to make sure you’re not…unsure. It’s all for good fun, but I don’t want to pressure you to do this.”
        “You can’t pressure me.” He smirked, putting the tube in his mouth. “Now, let’s do this.” Despite his words coming out as a mumble, he was more coherent than Mitsuri at the cost of some of the liquor spilling over the side.
        “Alright, I’m ready.” The empty space between us disappeared as Genya kneeled under, cupping either side of my face. I clasped my lips around the tube, and like a seesaw, we switched places. Once I had it all gulped, we stood back upright.
        “How was it?” He twinged red, wiping the edges of his lips.
“Great, now my turn.” Without any hesitation, I put my tube between my lips and did the same to him. Gripping his face, I kneeled and lined up the tube. Only, something came over me. Once we switched places, and he downed his shot, I threaded my fingers through the mop of his dark hair. Our test tubes suddenly hit the floor, but didn’t shatter. What have I done?
  “So soft Genya.” I giggled, running my hand from his hair to his chest resting on his belt loop and bending down to pick up our shot tubes. “So strong.”
        “(Y/n).” When I looked back up at him, he was even more flustered. “You’re so...”
        “So wonderful?” I put the words in his mouth, knowing that’s not what he was going to say. “So pretty.” Come on, I have to fix this. I’m drunk, it’s okay. It’s just my friends brother…
        “You are, but.” He shivered, reaching out to touch my hair. “I think beautiful would suit you much better.”
        “Thank you, Genya.” I felt a tingly warmth spread over my chest. “You’re a little cutie under all that hair gel.”
        “No, you don’t understand, I really-“
        “Hey! You did it! We saw. Didn’t we Obanai?” Mitsuri hung off Obanai’s arm. They snuck up on us, but they came bearing a gift.
        “We thought you might want to do some shots. We brought a bottle of tequila.” Obanai set the bottle on the table, and I suddenly had a wave of nausea. I held my lips, and took a step back.
        Now, peer pressure wasn’t something we really did, but if my friends were drinking, I normally was down to throw a few back. But although I don’t remember exactly, I just know me and tequila have some bad memories together.
        “Let’s get started!” Mitsuri beamed, pulling me by my wrist towards the table.
I looked at Genya and mouthed help. He bowed up, then tucked me under his arm, I felt like a small duckling under my mother’s wing.I didn’t expect him to pull me away from Mitsuri so quickly.
        “What’s the matter?” Mitsuri pouted, reaching out for me, but I stayed in place.
        “I think Genya’s trying to say they’ve had enough. Look at (Y/n), she’s practically green.” Obanai sighed, wrapping his arm around Mitsuri and guiding them toward the table. “Plus not everyone has our inhuman tolerance.”
        “Also, we pre-gamed in our car,” I added, feeling far too quiet and slightly snubbed.
        “Of course, take a breather. Genya, make sure she gets some fresh air.” Obanai paused looking me over. “(Y/n), consider yourself cut off tonight, okay?”
        “I hate when you’re right.” I laughed, hugging Genya tighter. “Don’t tell Sanemi.”
        “He’s going to be my problem, not yours.” Genya readjusted us, hooking my arm over his shoulder. “Come on.”
        “Be safe you two.” Mitsuri waved us off.
        The bouncer opened the door for us, chilling winds wrapped around my legs and arms, and I broke into a shiver. Genya took quicker steps towards the gazebo across the street.
Soon, we were planted on a wooden bench overlooking a brightly colored play set. The lattices on the gazebo didn’t offer much in terms of warmth, but it did break the harsh bite of the wind somewhat.
        “Thank you for helping me. I hate to hurt Mitsuri, but I couldn’t take tequila.” I stayed snuggled against him, resting my head on his shoulder.
        “Obanai was right, you’ve had too much.” He tried to peel my body off him but stopped short. “You really are a hugging drunk, might as well give in. I guess I’m nothing special, just a warm body on a cold night.” He laughed, resting his arm around my back.
        “No, you are. I want to hug you, Genya.” I pouted, nuzzling his neck, and setting up a little higher. He was wearing a cut-off black button-up, but he wasn’t shivering like me. Surely, he was cold, but the more I think back, he’s always dressed light on cold days. Even in the winter, the most he’d wear is a flannel.
        “Pft, you’re drunk.” He rubbed my back, curling his lips in a half smile. “But I wish you weren’t.”
        “You always put on a tough guy act, but I know you can back it up.” I wasn’t getting anywhere with him by cuddling, I needed to get it together. “That’s why I feel *Hic* safe with you.” I covered my mouth and laughed. “It’s not funny, I’m sorry.”
        “No, go on.” His pupils dilated, and his smile was replaced with an open mouth hanging onto my every word.
        “I didn’t pick you, just so you could practice tonight,” I admitted. “I picked you because I really like you too.”
        “(Y/N), Genya!” Sanemi stormed up to us. “I said stay in sight! I don’t care if you told the love birds where you were going. I’m going to kill you two!”
        “Run!” I shot to my feet, but Genya grabbed my elbow and stopped me.
        “I got this.” He pressed his forehead to mine, then pivoted on his heel to meet Sanemi in front of the swings.
        “Oi! We’re grown, people.” Genya growled back at him, and that started it… the fight was on.
OOOO
        It took Giyu to grab Sanemi,and Kyo and Obanai to grab Genya, in order to separate the two brothers. There was a crater in the wood chips where they had wrestled each other to the point of hitting the dirt under the play set. At one point, Sanemi tossed Genya on a swing and threw him into the air. There was now a crowd with their phones, and we knew we had to get out of there before the police came.
        “Genya with Kyo, and Sanemi with us. When we get him to the car, he may chill out and actually drive us home.” Kanae was trying to ease the chaos.
        “Dumbass!” Sanemi struggled against Giyu, but Kanae touched his shoulder and whispered in his ear. He finally calmed down… Maybe, if she could calm Sanemi, I could do the same.
        “There is only so much I am willing to do while drunk, and breaking up a fight isn’t one of those things. But calming a sloshed dude, that is doable.” I told Shinobu, who was rubbing my arms to keep me from freezing. Mitsuri, she, and I were blending in with the crowd, holding the car keys and coats. Ready to leave as soon as possible.
        “I don’t know about that. He’s pretty feral.” Shinobu hugged Giyu’s and Kyo’s coats, which were draped over her, closer to her body. She was thin and she could double their coats around her frame…it couldn’t be helped that I was the largest of my friend group. Still, I wished I could have worn their coats and felt dainty. I guess that’s one good thing about Genya, he didn’t have a coat to give me.
        “I’m going to try anyway.” I took a deep breath, marching to Kyo and Obanai’s corner of the playground.
        Genya was held horizontally, with Kyo holding his legs and Obanai holding his torso. He was wriggling and yelling, much like his brother had been doing.
        “I’m not done!” Genya yelled, but his brother was already gone. “I’ll kick your ass to space! Let me down!”
        “Come on Genya, calm down.” Kyo huffed.
        “We need to go before the police arrive. But he’s not going to listen.” Obanai groaned. “(Y/n), go back. He’s not rational.”
        “Just let me try.” I poked Genya’s cheek. “Genya.” I got his attention easier than I thought. “The fights over. Can we please go home?“ I squinted my glossy eyes while my lips formed into a pout. “Pretty please?”
        “Listen to (Y/n). It’s not worth all this chaos.” Kyo loosened his grip, but Obanai gripped harder.
        “Kyojuro.” Obanai huffed. “He’s not going down that easy.”
        “No, you guys are right. I’m sorry for my actions. Sanemi just works me up.” Genya was put back on his feet, and I brushed the dirt from his face with my hand.
        “Right, now let’s get out of here.” I could hear sirens in the distance. My phone buzzed and I took a quick look at the group chat. “Shinobu, Kanae, Mitsuri, Sanemi and Giyu are gone, we need to hurry.”
        “Right.” Obanai seemed relieved that Mitsuri was gone.
        “Come on.” Genya took my hand, and the four of us took off in a mad dash towards our car.  Racing through the bushes, and around the trees, we broke through the flora to get to our parking lot.
        “Go go go.” Kyo unlocked the car and we piled in, Genya and I dove for the back. He opened my door and held the top of my head so I didn’t bump it getting in. I scooted over and he jumped in. “Everyone buckle.” Kyo clicked himself in and started the car.
        “We need to go.” Obanai fumbled with his belt.
        “Here.” Kyo leaned over and buckled him. Of course, we wouldn’t move until we all were strapped down.
        Genya pulled on my belt and nodded it was in place, and sighed as Kyo backed up and merged into the nightlife traffic. Genya kept his head down for most of the drive, and we sat in relative silence.
        At some point, Genya fell asleep. I smiled, seeing he was relatively okay, nothing looked broken, only a few bumps and bruises.  We passed over a speed bump, and I held my breath. He stayed fast asleep, and I got to watch him be silent for a small while longer.
        “So, we can’t take him home.” Obanai was texting the whole time we’d been on the road. “Sanemi is still upset.”
        “Why is he so mad over us going outside?” I whispered.
        “He’s mad we disregarded his advice to confess to you sober.” If my eyes could get bigger, they would have.
        “Well, he’ll be sober tomorrow and we can do it again. Besides, I didn’t think he liked me. It’s not like we were that close up until now.”
        “You always sat by each other on game night.” Kyo wasn’t trying to be quiet. “You’d both help each other and giggle like a bunch of school girls. Then you or him would get skunked and he’d storm off.”
        “There’s also all the times he brought “us” snacks when it would just be all your favorites,” Obanai added.
        “Don’t forget he hates clubs, but he came tonight. Just to see you.” Kyo turned into my driveway.
        “Wow, I am really blind. I thought it was all in my head.” I looked at Genya. “He can stay with me tonight.”
        “Alright, let’s get him inside.”
OOOOO        It was bright and early when Genya started to stir awake. He was on my sofa, hand over his eyes to block out the light as it poured through my sheer curtains. His every twitch was terribly cute, especially when he rolled over to bury his face in the sofa cushions. Eventually, he pulled the cover over his head and grumbled. His knuckles had been bloody, but I wiped them off before we laid him down. To be fair, Kyojuro cleaned him up for the most part, but forgot his hands…they were so scarred and bruised. Genya was tough, almost to his detriment.
        I shouldn’t have been watching him so closely, but I wanted to make sure he was okay…and when he woke up with a headache I was there with meds and water. Breakfast…. he’d want something to eat.
        Slowly getting off my recliner, I tried to keep it from creaking and was successful. With a content sigh, I shuffled into the kitchen and grabbed some butter and a few eggs. An American breakfast was always a good cure for a hangover, so I’d make some hashbrowns too.
        Humming a happy tune, I wondered how he liked his eggs. He was still asleep, so I’d have to guess. Buzzing around the kitchen, I finally settled in front of the stove and began to cook my egg batter.
        Hands slide around my waist, and Genya’s face pressed to mine. “Good morning Beautiful.”
        “Ah, good morning handsome.” I couldn’t keep the butterflies in my tummy from fluttering all the way up my throat.
        “Thanks for the medicine.” He kissed my temple, squeezing my middle. “So, about last night… I’m sorry about the fight.”
        “Is that your only regret?” I asked before I could stop myself.
        His lips straightened, then turned into a smile. “My only regret is I didn’t win.” He spun me around in his arms, holding my chin in his hand. “I also regret not kissing you last night.”
        “Really?” I hung to his every word, hand gripping the bottom of his shirt.
        “Yeah.” He kissed me. He cupped my face with one hand and rubbed my back with the other. We broke apart and went in for another kiss. I rubbed his chest and arms,feeling the muscles rippling beneath my hands. Sanemi might kill me.
        “The eggs.” My eyes widened and I swiveled, then took them off the stove before they were too far gone.
        “Nice catch hot stuff.” He got a plate down from the cabinet and had it ready for me to dump our eggs on to.
        “This is nice.” I touched my lips.
        “You want round two?” He raised his brow.
        “Maybe after we get done cooking.” I laughed, getting my grated potato ready to fry. “Then we can kiss all day.”
        “Bet on it.”
Extra:
        “I’m not mad. I just told him to wait.” Sanemi had his arms crossed and was standing in my driveway.
        “I didn’t mean to fall for your little brother.” I held the back of my neck and glanced at Genya. His charm was hidden under a few rough layers, but he was my type of guy. Kind, strong, and ready to take charge.
        “It was getting pretty obvious with how often you suggested we study at my place.” Sanemi lowered his arms and laughed. “You two will be good together. I know it.”
        “Thank you for your blessing. Um, can you let Genya out of the car now? I think it’s too hot to leave him in there.” Genya was pulling at the car's back seat handle. Sanemi had put the child locks on.
        “He can be let out when we get home. I’m not done with him.” Sanemi turned to walk back to his car.
        “Please be easy on my boyfriend.” I knitted my brows together and blew Genya a kiss once I had his attention. He blew me one back, then went back to being feral. What had I signed myself up for?

Walk You Home (PART TWO)
  “Kyo can do Shinobu.” Giyu was bright red, holding out his hand for the test tube. “I’ll do (Y/N)’s.”
        “Good luck getting him off the dance floor.” Shinobu took a shot from Mitsuri and hustled to grab him. She was huffing the whole way, but there were some unspoken things going on between them.
        “Here.” I took the tube, my face burning. “You’re taller, so um, let me just.” I put the tube between my lips and pushed him down like Mitsuri had done, only I didn’t line up our lips. So when I tipped forward, it poured out like a waterfall. Somehow Giyu caught every drop, his pupils were wide in panic, but he didn’t slam them shut like I would have.
        “Ah, I’m so sorry.” I gripped the tube in his hand and glared at my laughing friends. “Come one Giyu.” I took his hand and pulled him towards the front, but not before he grabbed another tube shot.
        “It’s okay.” We stopped by our table, it had simmered down in the club, as there was school tomorrow and the ‘ladies’ of ladies' night was turning in. “Are you alright?”
        “Yeah. Just embarrassed. You know, the worst kind of wound.” I sat the empty tube on our table and noticed Giyu still had one. “You want to try me?”
        “Yes.” He shifted his body weight, then looked at his feet. He was toned…toned in the way that made him popular. So popular he could have anyone in the bar tonight…including me. “Would you come here?”
        “Sure.” I suddenly felt how tight the arms of my dress were again. The fabric was scratchy and my body didn’t quite fit, but when I stepped into his range, he kneeled before me, pushing the opening of the tube to my lips. I was shaking, but I took it in my mouth. He slid his hand around my back and stood to his full height and I slipped down, gulping the vodka with one swig.
        “Wow.” Giyu set the tube aside. “That’s how it's done I guess. I should have let you go first, Mr. Smooth.” I pulled my hair in front of my face, and he pushed it right back behind my ear.
        “Are you cold? You were shaking like a leaf?” He rubbed my arms. “Yeah, you’re getting cold in here.”
        “A little,” I admit, slotting under his arm.
        “Let’s go outside.” We traversed the thinning crowd with ease, but not without stares and whispers, like ‘good for her’. Part of me yearned for what we looked like…a happy drunk couple. It wasn’t uncommon to find us entangled on club nights. Giyu didn’t like to dance, but he would awkwardly shimmy behind me to block creeps from trying to set up camp and ruin my fun.
        Thinking back on all the times he was there for me…late night walks home, writing letters back and forth in the summer because texting is for the birds, long phone calls where I talked about my family and he listened. We were close as partners, just without the label…because of obvious reasons….he was emotionally constipated and I was fat. Easy and true story. No. It wasn’t because of my body, for other men, sure, but not Giyu. He would never let me believe my body was anything but a positive. I was strong, graceful, and ready to fight for what I believed in. Which meant tossing my weight around at times. Like the time I body slammed a drunk Doma for trying to touch Kanae.
        “We’re almost home, just hold tight.” Somewhere between the bar and two blocks from Urokodaki’s house, I had started to black out.
        “I had too much, didn’t I?” I leaned hard on him. My arm was over his shoulder ad he was holding my hand. He gripped it tighter and squeezed my side closer.
        “Maybe a little.” He laughed, sitting me down on a street bench. He walked to a vending machine and pulled out his wallet. Soon he turned back to me with a vitamin water in hand. “Here, this should help, plus,” he held up a pack of peanut butter crackers. “Some protein…”
        “Thank you.” I took the water and downed half, then started to work on the crackers.
        “I want to take care of you, so don’t thank me for something for trivial.” He sat beside me.
        “I can thank you whenever I want to.” I shot back, going to whack his arm but hitting the air. I laughed before shaking my head. “Why would you say that?”
        “I almost drank too much… to safely get you home.” He buried his head in his lap.
        “Don’t be sad Giyu. I like you best when you smile at me. So don’t be sad.” I waved my hand till it landed on him, and I pulled him closer, our heads banging against each other. “Ow.”
        “Silly girl.” He hums, laying his head on mine.
        “That’s better. Now everything will be alright.” I handed him the other half of the water and crackers. “Eat up, and let’s get sober.”
        “Yes. Sober, what I should have been all night.”
        “No. You get to let loose too. I love when you look after us, but we are all grown. You can’t be responsible for anyone but yourself.” I sat up, holding his hands. My Psych classes were coming out in full force.
        “I only really want to, be in charge of you, Tanjiro, and Nezuko.” He pauses, shifting and pulling me so our lips were lined up. “You especially, because I like you.”
        “I like you too.” I looked at the cracked concert, and how the shadows made the flaws more noticeable under the light.
        “No. I love you.” He gripped my chin, rubbing his thumb over my chin. His eyes were like a river, fierce and true, sweeping away my will to say no. We inched forward, lips almost touching when bright lights flashed at us.
        “There you two are! You can’t just fucking leave in the middle of the party!” Sanemi had his head out his car window, he shifted back into to yell at his car’s speaker.  “Yeah, Kyo I found them. Third street, they are almost to Giyu’s pad. I can take one if you get the other.”
        “We can walk it.” I stood up, wobbling to one side before Giyu righted me. I leaned back into his chest. “Or not.”
        “Take (Y/N) home. I’ll wait for Kyojuro.” Giyu nudged me toward the car, taking careful and slow steps.
        “But.” I protested but was pulled into the car by a livid Shinobu. Kanae was passed out on the other side of her.
        “What were you two thinking? Walking out and not telling anyone? You could have gotten hit by a car or worse.” She smoothed my dress and looked me over. “At least you’re not hurt, thank goodness. Giyu looks good too.” Giyu was talking with Sanemi and Genya at the front of the car while we waited for Kyo. “Good thing you didn’t split up, finding you was hard enough without being divided.”
        “Giyu? Leave me? Never.” I tried to think back to a moment ago, but my brain got foggy. “He’s so sweet.” Tears welled in my eyes, and I burst into an ugly cry. “I love him.” I wailed.
        “Please don’t cry.” Giyu opened the back door and rubbed my back.  I clung to his shirt, pulling hard enough it untucked from his pants. “You’ll get sick, (Y/N). Please.”
        “He’s right. Come on, Kyo is here. Please smile so Giyu can go home.” Her tone was the one she saved for kids…I was going to have regrets tomorrow…. or today really. To take her from mad to gentle took a really pitiful cry, one that I happened to have.
        “Sorry. I’m just so thankful.” I started to sniffle and let go of Giyu.
        “Oi, (Y/N), hush.” Sanemi growled, “We’re going to Giyu’s house, so don’t cry so hard.”
        “Okay.” I settled down, biting my lip to hold it in place. Sleep was lulling me to close my eyes, but I would be too hard to move into the house. Still, they can wake me up.
OOOOO
        “Here.” Pills were plopped in my mouth, followed by water. When my eyes fluttered open, Shinobu was fretting over me. “There you are sleepy head. If I had to run Giyu out of his own room one more time, I was going to wake you myself.”
        “Why is he-? Oh, last night some things did happen.” I admitted, looking around the clean room. There were swimming trophies lined against the wall, accented by photos of his friends. My favorite was the one of us, by the pool after he won his first college competition.
        “Some things? You two were hanging off each other, that is usual. Giyu isn’t the cuddly type, or I didn’t think he was till you two started making kissy faces.” She was a little cold, but I could understand how things changing could be stressful.
        “I think we’re in love. But I’m not sure.” I jumped out of his bed and went to his dresser, where I kept extra clothes for such occasions. Suddenly a brick wall hit me, my head spun and I flopped back on the bed.
        “God, how did I not see this before.” She blew hot air walking to the door. “Wait, did your hangover just hit?”
        “Yes.” I groaned, getting up slower this time. “Let’s get breakfast.”
        “Are you alright?” Giyu peeked in the door and fully came in when he saw we were dressed.
        “Giyu, get back here and eat!” Tanjiro paused in the doorway. “Hey you three, breakfast is ready. Let’s eat.”
        “Can you make it down the stairs?” Giyu pushed my messy hair away from my face and held my hand.
        “Yeah, I’m just a little light-sensitive.” I smiled, nuzzling his hand to my face.
        “Good. I can lead us. I’ve been up longer. Shinobu’s medicine knowledge really came in handy.” He poked my nose and I laughed. I was weightless, despite the pounding in my head. When I was next to him, everything else melted.
        “Oh god, I can’t stand it.” Shinobu dragged Tanjiro with her to the kitchen. “Come on. Let’s eat.”
        “Right.” We both nodded and followed her. True to his word, Giyu guided me down the steps. Was it necessary? No. Did it make me feel special, one hundred percent.
     I sat by Giyu for breakfast, and we wasted no time digging in. He even gave me his leftover bacon and part of his hash brown. He’d always done this, but today I could see it. I could see the way he held his breath, and his hands brushed mine, and just how he was hanging on to my every word.
        Looking at the table, we were the only ones that stayed the night. It made sense since Shinobu wouldn’t leave us to Tanjiro to care for. Still, I needed to thank her properly for watching out for us. Us…we were an us now. Maybe.
        “Can we talk?” I asked as soon as breakfast was done. I couldn’t keep my toes from tapping the floor as I waited for an answer.
        “Of course. I want to make sure you remember our conversation.” He turned deep red, grabbing my hand again and taking me outside. The sun wasn’t just peeking over the valley. Maybe that’s why he was so red?
        We sat on his porch swing. It was trustworthy of my weight, still, I held my breath as I sat down. The wind picked up, blowing petals past our heads and into our hair. I found my hand rubbing through his long dark hair. Twirling a piece around my finger. “I love your hair.”
        “And I love you.” He didn’t waste any time. “I should have said it sober, but I was too afraid. Too afraid you wouldn’t feel the same. But I know now. You love me too. You said it drunk.”
        “And I’ll say it sober. I love you, Giyu. Now, can I kiss you?” I cupped his face this time.
        “You’ve made me so happy.” He leaned into me, and our lips met, heads tilted to the side, we savored every peck and lock. His hands rested in my hair, and I gripped his chest, bunching his shirt in my fist.
        We broke apart. “I waited for this moment, for a long time.” He admitted.
        “Me too. I was just too afraid to be honest with my feelings until you put it in words…please don’t hold back from now on.” I kissed him quick. “Now, let’s go and thank our friends for looking after us.”
        “Right.”
Extra:
        “Thank you for taking care of us?” Giyu and I were in unison, bowing before Shinobu in the living room.
        “You’re welcome, but the twining is a little creepy. It’s only natural I’d care for my friends.” She forced a smile, then noticed we were holding hands. “You two confessed?”
        “I’m surprised too.” I stood straight, holding the back of my neck. “I guess Giyu and I needed to be drunk and then sober at the same time.”
        “The perfect moment just happened while we were intoxicated.” Giyu hid his blush and went towards the kitchen where Tanjiro was doing the dishes. “I love her, it takes time to say that right.”
        “Awww isn’t that cute.” Shinobu smiled. “You two are good for each other. I’m happy for you.”
        “I’m happy too.”  I sat by her on the sofa and let my new relationship settle in my bones. Good things were to come.

Start Here
        “You’re shaking, are you nervous or excited?” Shinobu winged my eyeliner, her hand resting on my stomach as she balanced the liner on both sides. The bathroom in Giyu and Tanjiro’s home had terrible lighting, so Shinobu was inches from my face, pressing me closer to the light over the sink.
        “Both?” My breath hitches in my throat, my white knuckles gripping the sink counter harder as Shinobu and Mitsuri giggle.
        “Don’t be so worried.” Mitsuri played with the hem of her skirt. “You guys are going to have an awesome road trip.”
        “I haven’t left campus except to come here, or visit home. Plus, you can’t predict how things will go at a new club.” Flashes of my cousin’s recording me on my twenty-first birthday, roll through my mind. I suck my stomach in, taking a deep breath before laughing. “God, I’m really killing the vibe. I’m sorry.”
        “No, you’re just expressing what we all are thinking.” Kanae slips into the room, and it takes everything to keep my lips off the floor. She’s in a skin-tight lilac sleeveless dress, with a sheer butterfly shawl over top.
        “Wow.” Mitsuri studies the glitter in her eyes and the highlight on her cheek. She had graduated from college last year and was working on her master’s degree, so she still liked to go out with us. “You’re stunning.”
        “Thank you. You all look amazing.” Kanae winked at me, and I was frozen to my spot long enough for Shinobu to finish.
        “There, beautiful.” Shinobu’s eyes never left mine, she ran her hands down my dress. It was a pink dress covered in hearts, Mitsuri had made it a point that we needed to match. While hers was loose and billowed around her body, mine was a little too big at the chest, and tight in the arms. But the fabric was forgiving, and she was so happy for us to match and I was just so happy to support a brand with a wide size range….
        “You’re spacing out.” Shinobu pulled me off the sink and made me spin. “I know you love to dance, you’re going to have fun.”
        “Why are we partying before a road trip?” I groaned hearing bass start to pound from outside… Kyojuro was defiantly waiting for us.
        “Because it’s ladies' night.” Kanae smiled, wiggling her finger back and forth. We filed out of the washroom, and down the steps to the living room. The house was clean and simple, like a crisp spring in the morning. Their Uncle Uro had let them stay here during school. He was a teacher for the remote students, so he stayed in his office more often than not. That’s considering how often he was away at conferences, like tonight.
        “Wow.” Tanjiro’s smile widened. “You all look lovely.” Kanao was beside him on the sofa, the two surrounded by books and loose papers.
        “Be safe tonight,” Kanao whispered, turning back to her notes quickly.
        “We will. Giyu will be looking after us.” I teased as the dark-haired man emerged from the downstairs bathroom. He was wearing a button-up, with all the buttons latched as they should, and a pair of black slacks.
        “Of course.” He tinged red, and the front door opened, all our focus going to Kyojuro and Obanai.
        “Hey, guys.” Mitsuri doesn’t miss a beat greeting the other half of the group. Now we were just missing-
        “Oi, why are y’all so slow?” Sanemi bellowed from his car, laying on the horn. The only one not cringing was Kyo, who was way too focused on, me.
        “Hey! We’re coming alright.” Shinobu growled, grabbing my arm and pulling me along. “We’re riding with Kyo, right?”
        “Yeah.” I barely slipped my shoes on and clasped Kyojuro’s hand to have him follow along.
        “(Y/N), you look amazing.” He didn’t need to be dragged, as he lopped arms with me and kept pace with Shinobu.
        “Alright, here we go.” I laughed as they rushed to the red SUV. “Thank you Kyo, I feel good.” He smiled, and even in the dark the way his eyes crinkled made my heart race.
        “Dibs on the back!” Shinobu opened the back door and tucked me inside like a cop, holding my head and everything. While she was studying medicine like Kanae, she might have had an affinity for criminal justice. She wasn’t strong, but she knew how to command a room and stay calm in a hard situation. Like the time we had to dissect a frog and it started to move….she might have quickly poisoned it, but it was quick and painless.
        After more of a ruckus, everyone was in their cars and on their way to the club. Kyo looked back before we took off, he reached back and rubbed my knee and I swatted at his hand. “Kyo.” The smile that spread on my face was infectious as he grinned back at me.
        “Ach hem.” Giyu had crawled into the front seat and was feeling infected with a smile. “Let’s follow Sanemi before he leaves us in the dust.”
        “Is Genya coming this time?” Shinobu hummed, holding my hand and encouraging me to relax back into the seat.
        “I think so.” Kyo then nodded. “I see his mohawk in the back seat.”
        “They put him between Mitsuri and Obanai, how cruel.” I sighed, Kyo passing back a bottle of rum…my favorite brand.
        “He’s abrasive.” Shinobu opens the bottle and then hands it to me. I take a long swig, and she follows suit. “But, I was the younger sister tagging along when I turned twenty-one. It’s a rite of passage.”
        “I suppose.” I take another drink and pass the bottle to Giyu who takes a quick sniff of the bottle before taking a smooth gulp.
        “Good choice Kyo. Did you pick it with someone in mind?” Giyu pointed his head back at me, and I nervously laughed, shrinking into Shinobu. It had been our pre-game choice since I mentioned liking it last year. There was no reason to call Kyo out now. I thought Kyojuro would deny it or make an offhand comment, but he didn’t.
        “Why yes. (Y/N).” Kyo grins, shifting his car to the next gear. My heart was already racing, but now it was flying.
        “So, Sanemi and Kyo are the designated drivers tonight.” I could feel heat settle on my cheeks, and a sense of weightlessness hit my limbs. Oh, to dream.
        “Yup, they are.” Shinobu was still cuddled next to me, nuzzling her head on mine, our hair was gathering static and handing straight up, so I smoothed it.
        “It’s not me for once.” Giyu could have been described as bitter at this moment, but the truth was he didn’t trust just anyone to D.D. Especially if I was volunteering. He really didn’t trust my driving and with good reason. Drunk or not, I tuckered myself out way too easily at the club and was always super sleepy at the end. Kyo verged on the same, but he knew when to hold back.
        “We’re here.” Kyo parks, and we tuck the bottle under the back seat and hop out of the car.
        “(Y/N)! Save me!” Mitsuri ran into my arms. I caught her with a slight wobble to my steps, thankfully Giyu was behind me and gave me a boost forward.
        “What’s wrong?” I pet her hair. Most of the group went on to buy our wristbands. “Did someone hurt you?”
        Kanae stayed back and whispered in my ear. “Genya ignored her and started to growl. So, she’s a little worked up.”
        “He’s going to pay.” Obanai was muttering to himself, and I couldn’t help but think that Mitsuri might not be the only one needing saving tonight.
        “Let’s get inside. How about that?” I offered.
        “Yeah. Let’s have some fun?” Kanae was my backup, grabbing Obanai and following behind me as we got to the front.
        The bouncer looked at my I.D. and then huffed. “You clean up nice.” He smirked, putting a band around my wrist.
        “Um, thank you.” I looked into the club, mist scattered across the floor, and as expected, there were ladies in large amounts.
        “(Y/N)! Over here.” Kyojuro waved me to the dance floor, a drink in his hand.
        “On my way,” I called back to him. There was a large dance floor, with plenty of flashing lights and cool patterns to make me dizzy. But first, I needed to set my purse down with the losers who wouldn’t dance.
        “There you guys are. Gosh, what took so long.” Genya was the one complaining this time. Sanemi and Kanae were sneaking off to make out, no doubt. Those two didn’t seem compatible, but there they were, just behind the speaker swapping more than secrets. “What are you staring at?” Genya took over my vision, and I yelped stepping back. Why was he so close, and why did he smell so good?
        “Nothing.” I shivered, rubbing my mostly bare arms…fuck cap sleeves.
        “Here.” He shoved a bottle into my hand. “I got this for you.”
        I looked closer and it was a wine cooler, in my favorite flavor. How did he know? “Thank you Genya, this was very sweet.” I reminded myself he was still learning how to act in adult spaces…and it’s not like he had a solid role model in Sanemi.
        “Will you, drink one with me?” he held up another cooler and uncapped it.
        “Of course.” I break the seal on mine and undo the lid. “To tonight.”
        “To tonight.” He nodded and we both downed the drink. While we should have been doing shots, this was cute. He was so sweet, and I’d go as far as to say thoughtfully. While I trusted him, he still left it sealed…
        “(Y/N)! Come dance with us.” Shinobu was dancing with Kyojuro, pulling me towards her like a rope. Giyu was standing close by as my bodyguard, as usual.
        “Come on, let’s dance Genya.” I tugged him with me and got to the dance floor.
        “I can’t dance.” He whispered.
        “Well, just watch us for a minute, and bob to the music,” I instructed, joining my favorite people.
        The song changed, it was just words at first, then the beat slowly started to build up, with each new sound, I added a movement. Starting with my hips, working up my arms to my head, and back to my legs. Without noticing, I fully submerged myself into the music, my eyes shut tight, but I could see everything I needed to.
        “Those hips don’t lie,” Kyojuro whispered in my ear, breaking my concentration long enough to get behind me and bump a stranger from joining us.
        “No, they don’t.” I see Giyu had also turned away a few people from our group. I see Shinobu was still dancing with us, and Genya had loosened up a little and was using his arms and hips to dance.
        Another song comes on, and we kept dancing, and drinking our collective body weight in rum. Soon Obanai and Mitsuri pulled us off the dance floor to do some test-tube shots. I was more than ready for another round of shots.
        “I have an idea before we just take these.” Mitsuri put the bottom between her lips and balanced it. “We Ta-E iT li-E T-is.” She grabbed Obanai and kneeled In Front of him and lined up the tube to his lips, before pushing him down and letting him swallow it whole.
        “No way.” Genya walked away.
        “I wanna! (Y/N), do me.” Shinobu offered me the vile, her hand lingering on mine.
        “No, me.” Mitsuri volunteered.
        “Huh, she isn’t doing anyone but me.” Genya turned around, puffing out his chest.
        “How about she do Giyu?” Obanai licked his lips. “ I can do you.” He looked at Mitsuri with narrowed eyes that kept daring the rest of us to offer to sensually pour booze down her throat.
        “(Y/n), who do you want to do your shot?” Kanae snuck up behind me, laughing as I stiffened.
        “Uhhh?”

 “Good morning Y/N, do you need help carrying that?” Ace gestured to the large box filled to the brim with paperwork and medical charts.
 “I’ve got this. Thank you for offering.” You smile at him and continue your walk to a certain blonde's office.
 “Oh I see.” You look back to see Ace smirking wildly. “You taking that to your man?”
 “He isn’t my man! ” You shoot a scowl at the smirking man. You could feel heat rise to your cheeks. You wish you had never told the freckled faced man anything about your crush. Now all he does is tease you any chance he gets.
 “No not yet at least. You need to go ahead and tell him how you feel.” His tone turned slightly serious. “I speak for the entire crew when I say we are sick of seeing you follow him like a love sick puppy or I guess in your case rabbit.” He chuckled at his own joke. Classic Ace behavior.
 “I’ll tell him when the time is right. I don’t want to ruin our friendship or our working relationship.” You wonder if there will ever really be a “right time”.
 “There is no time like the present.” Ace gave you one of his comforting wide smiles. “Besides I have a good hunch he likes you a lot more than you think. You're his precious little Y/N after all.” Ace stuck his tongue out in a taunting way.
 “Shut it fire farce. Now if you’ll excuse me I’ve got to get going. Unlike you I actually work instead of flaking out on job duties.” You stick your tongue back out at him, causing a pout to form on his face.
 “Whatever. Anyways I guess I’ll let you “hop” to it.” He chuckled again at his own corny rabbit joke. You watch as Ace walks away. The jolly roger on his back flexed with every step. He was proud of it, and you were just as proud of the symbol.
  (Flashback)
   Ever since you’ve joined the whitebeards you feel like you have the family you always wanted. Although you didn't exactly walk up and join the bunch, they more or less rescued you. When you were young your parents sold you off to a scientist for money, you spent most of your life being experimented on. The scientist planned on making a bio-engineered weapon to overthrow the world government by turning them into small weak creatures that could be controlled easily. He was almost successful. He was able to turn you into a rabbit after a few years, the only problem was you could change back into a human. Most of the time you could change at will. But sometimes it happened sporadically. He was frustrated at the fact. You’ll never forget the day he came and grabbed you from the small cage, the angry look in his eyes. He dragged you down a hallway until you were outside. The first time you had been outside in years. To your surprise you were on a ship of all things. He called you worthless, his failed experiment. Without a second look he threw you off the boat and into the dark sea below. The cold water had shocked your small body. You were never taught how to swim.
 After struggling to stay above water, you were lucky enough to find a small piece of driftwood floating. It was your saving grace. At that moment you were glad to be in rabbit form, the wood would not hold up your human body weight. After a few days of floating at sea with no food or clean water along with the heat of the sun , you were so weak you could not move. The thought of dying scared you,  but then again maybe things would be better if you were dead. Maybe death will bring peace. You had accepted your fate, now it was just a waiting game. You could hear the sound of faint wings flapping.  All you remember after that was seeing blue wings of fire, big hands grabbing your frail rabbit body and a voice asking “Can we eat it?” Luckily Marco, the one who pulled you from the sea also protected you from becoming rabbit stew. The doctor took pity on you, he could tell you were on the verge of death and he had a soft spot for small animals. He took you to the infirmary immediately and started healing you. You were up and moving in no time. Marco would smile at your progress, not knowing the small creature in front of him was not just a rabbit. You tried hard to go back into your human form, but could not no matter how hard you tried. It was frustrating, you wanted to thank him for taking such good care of you. You also wanted to tell him your name was not “fuzzball”.
  After a while you started getting used to being treated like a princess by the man.  He would hold you close to his warm chest as you took a nap.  He even made a small bed that sat on his work desk so could nap when he was busy. Every now and then he would caress your soft fur. His big warm hands had become your source of comfort and protection. It was unlike anything you have felt before. You have craved this feeling of safety for so long. But as they say, all good things must come to an end. One night Marco was finishing some paperwork while you watched. He placed the papers in his desk drawer and got up from the swivel chair. “It’s time for bed fuzzball.” He picked you up and cradled you in his strong arms. And just like that, poof, you were back human again. To make things worse you were as naked as the day you were born. You’ll never forget the look of utter shock Marco had on his face. He held you up for a few seconds before sitting your feet on the floor. He wrapped his purple jacket around you. And gave you a confused look.
 “Thank you for taking care of me. And my name is not fuzzball, it’s Y/N!” You blurted out and  smiled up at the very confused Marco. He blinked at you a few times, processing what just occurred.
 “Duly noted. You stay here, I’ll go get you some clothes fuzz- I mean Y/N” Marco ran out of the room. He had seen some weird stuff before but you took the cake. He came back with clothes and gave you some privacy so you could change.
 You gave him his purple jacked back and explained everything to him. The first thing he did was apologize to you for petting your fur saying “It was rude” but you assured him it was okay. He took you to meet pops and the rest of the crew.  After the initial shock and questions from the crew you explained everything to Whitebeard, after he heard you never had family he asked you to join. Without anywhere else to go, you said yes and now you're officially a pirate and a child of Whitebeard.
Pops noticed how comfortable you were around Marco, so he gave you the job as his assistant/ secretary. Marco was a busy man and you know that first hand from watching. You accepted his offer. Now you mainly forged his signature on paperwork and help take vitals when it's time  for the crew's check ups. It was a busy job, but you wouldn’t have it any other way. Getting to work next to Marco everyday was the best thing to ever happen.
 (Flashback end)
 As crazy as it sounds, you were glad that twisted scientist had thrown you overboard. You would have never met Marco or the rest of the crew if he didn’t. Fate had a funny way of bringing people together. Your trip down memory lane came to an end as you approached the door to Marco’s office/exam room. You knocked gently.
 “Come in, yoi.” Marco’s voice called out. A smile found its way on your face.
 “It’s just me, I got all the paperwork signed and organized.” He swiveled his body around to face you. He gave you the lazy smile he always does.
 “Thank you Y/N, I appreciate your hard work.” He stood up, all 6’8 of him towering over you. He gently grabbed the box from your hands and laid it on his desk. “How are you feeling today?”
 “No problem, I’m always glad to help. And I’m doing okay. I have a little bit of a headache, but nothing too bad.” Marco gave you a concerned look. You know he worries a lot about you and rightfully so considering most of your life was spent being injected with who knows what. All the unknowns made you anxious. His hand came down to ruffle your hair, he must have noticed the unease you were feeling.
 “It's okay, you're okay. Would giving you a check up make you feel better?” You nod your head and sit down on the exam table. You would be lying if you said you're not nervous. You trust him fully, but being in a situation like this makes you remember things you want to forget. Marco went through a drawer and pulled out a thermometer and his stethoscope. He sat on his swivel chair and rolled over to you. “Breathe in and out normally.” You did as you were told as he moved the stethoscope over your back, listening to your lungs. “Your lungs sound normal.” He laid the stethoscope to the side and gave you a reassuring smile.
 “Let me take your temperature and I’ll be done, yoi. Say ahh.” You open your mouth as he places the thermometer under your tongue. You hear a group of beeps meaning the reading was done. Marco had a concerned look on his face. “Your temp is 102. That is pretty high, I’m going to get you some meds to bring it down.”
 “Okay.”  You wait as Marco goes through cabinets searching for the medicine. Your eyes wander over to the small bed that is still on his desk. You still use it from time to time to take a nap. No one dares to bother you, especially with Marco around. He would beat anyone who tried to wake you up. Just last week he sent Ace flying because he was being too loud while you slept. Your heart swelled thinking about how protective he was. All the more reason you love him.
 “Here we go.” Marco’s voice pulled you from your thoughts. He turned to face you and what he held in his hand made you freeze. You could feel your heart rate pick up and heat rise to your face from the panic coursing through your body. He had a needle in his hand. “Are you okay Y/N?” Marco walked closer causing you to scooch back away from him. You could only stare at him in horror.
 “No please, not that.” Your voice cracked as tears spilled down your face. You kept looking at the needle and syringe in his hand. Flashbacks came crashing in, all the time you were tied down and injected with something, all the times you screamed bloody murder for it to stop. All the small scars that littered your arms. It was too much. Your body unwillingly transformed into your rabbit form. Your flight response kicked in and you bounced off  the exam table and straight out of Marcos office. You need to hide, you need to find a safe place.
 “Y/N?” You passed a concerned voice, but you were going too fast to understand who it was.
 You ran until you got to your bedroom door. You go through the small hole Ace had carved out for you due to you sometimes getting stuck in rabbit form. At a time like this you were thankful. Your instincts to find safety landed you under your bed. Going to the main back corner, you curled into a ball and as the world collapsed around you.
~~~~~
 “Hey Marco, do you know why Y/N was running?” Ace peaked his head into the door.
 “Unfortunately it was my fault.” Marco held the syringe up to Ace.
 “What did you do?” Ace’s face went angry as he looked at the needle.
 “She has a bad temperature and I was going to give her a shot to help bring it down. I should have known better. After what she’s been through I can understand why she is afraid of needles.” Marco stood up from his chair walking towards Ace.
 “I see. Well I’m relieved to know it wasn’t on purpose. If it was, I was going to kick your phoenix ass.” Ace shot Marco an intimidating look.
 “That’s some tough talk for someone who wanted to cook her up, yoi.” Marco retorted.
 “I didn’t know she was a human at that time! What you did was much worse, scaring the poor girl who loves you.” Ace slammed a hand over his mouth a little too late.
 “I know she does.”  He could tell considering you made your feelings painfully obvious. “And it’s a mutual feeling. But that's not important right now. Which way did she go?”
 “She was going down that way, if I had a guess she went to her room.” Ace pointed down the hall.
 “Thanks, I’m going to go make this right.”
~~~~~~~~
 The same scene kept playing in your head. Your body tied up to monitors, the sound of a iv dripping. You could hear it. It felt so real. The sense of doom was suffocating. Your eyes open, you're surrounded by darkness. You wanted to move but you feel frozen in place. Your ears pick up the sound of footsteps approaching your room. They stepped closer and closer until they were still in front of your door. The doorknob shook as the door creaked open.
 “Y/N are you in here.” Marco’s voice softly called out. “I want to apologize.” You wanted to call out to him, but you can’t. The fear of the past had engulfed you.
 “I am so sorry. I should have taken your past into consideration. I didn't mean to scare you and I swear on my life I won’t ever make this mistake again.” His voice was riddled with guilt.  After a few moments of silence, he started to walk out of the room, he must have thought you weren't in the room. You look at the one of the wooden posts that hold your bed up. You decided to kick your fuzzy leg against it to make a “thud”.
 “Y/N?” Marco got down on his knees and looked at your body curled up underneath the bed. His heart shatters seeing you all alone, shaking like a leaf in the wind. “Hey there sweet girl. Can you come out for me?”  Marco reached his hand out towards you. You hesitate for a moment, but you hop towards him until you sit in the palm of his hand. He pulls you out from underneath the bed and sits you on his lap.
 “I really am sorry. I hope you can forgive me, yoi.” You look up at him and nod confirming you forgive him. You know he had good intentions. “I’m going to make that medicine in pill form for you. Do you feel comfortable going back to my office with me?” Again you nod your head. Marco stood up from the floor and held you close. The sound of his heartbeat was grounding you. He walks out of your room and shuts the door gently.
 “It looks like you found the runaway rabbit.” Ace walked up and smacked Marco on the back. He looked down at your small form and gave you a small pat.
 “Yeah, we are heading back to my office, yoi.” Marco stepped back from Ace, as if he did not want him touching you.
 “Dinner will be ready soon, don’t be late. Oh and Y/N, I have bad news. Thatch said we are out of carrots.” Ace gave you a fake sad face. Without hesitation you jumped from Marco’s arms and kicked Ace in the face with your little leg. He let out a small oww and you nestled back into Marco’s arms. “That was mean.” He came eye level with you.
 “You deserved it.” Marco brought you up on his shoulder so Ace couldn't get to you. “Well be there soon, I’m going to make her medicine first.” Ace nodded as you and Marco walked back towards his office.
 “I’m going to start grinding the meds, you focus on turning back human if you can.” Marco sat you down on his desk. He immediately started  rummaging  through different cabinets and drawers. Your body was calming down with each passing second. Marco had a theory as to why you turn into a rabbit spontaneously. He thinks it's something to do with stress levels. He told you to try to picture yourself in a happy place when you were stuck as a rabbit. It was funny, because being with him was your happy place.
 “Ace told me something interesting.” Marco’s voice broke your thoughts. “He more or less told me how you felt towards me.”
 You looked at Marco, who did not turn to face you. He continued rummaging through cabinets. You were going to beat Ace’s ass.
 “You have definitely softened me up. Ever since you’ve been around the crew says I’m more “Gentle” on them. In all honesty you have me wrapped around your finger whether you realize it or not.” He started to mix together different ingredients while you sat still, listening to  his words. “I’ll never forget the time you wanted to go into town with me. I told you no, but you wasted no time turning into a rabbit and doing the little begging hands thing.” Your little trick ended up working. You and Marco went around the town collecting things for the ship. You didn’t exactly have money, but Marco insisted on getting anything you wanted.
 “I guess what I’m trying to get at.” Marco turned around to face you. “I love you Y/N. I have for a while now, yoi.” He gave you a soft smile, one that melted your heart. So overcome with emotions, you jump off the desk and head straight towards Marco. Your body turned normal in the process, making you and him fall to the floor.
 “Do you mean it?” You lift your body off of Marco’s, your eyes locked on his.
 “I do. Here, let me show you.” His arms wrap around your midsection, bringing your face down to his. His lips met yours in a soft kiss. You felt like you could float away if his hands were not holding you to him. “Was that enough, or do I need to convince you a little more?”
 “I believe you.” You had tears coming from your eyes. Marco’s hand cupped your cheeks wiping them away. “I’m sorry I’m crying, I’m just really happy.”
 “It’s okay, sweetheart.” The sweet moment is destroyed by your stomach growling. Marco let out a laugh. “We better go get food before it’s gone.” He stood up, taking you up with him so your feet stood on the floor. “Take this before we go.” He poured you a glass of water before handing you the medicine. You gulped it down.
 “Thank you, I feel better already.” You smile up at the blond who has a pleased look on his face.
 “Good. Now we better get going before that glutton Ace eats all the good food.” You laugh at his statement.
 “Maybe we will get lucky and he’ll be passed out before he could gobble it all up.” You wrap your arm around his as you head towards the deck. You could hear the crew's rowdy voices booming. Lucky enough you see plenty of food on the tables, and Ace was indeed passed out on his plate.
 “Well well well. It's about time you two got together.” Thatch looked at you and Marco. You hid your embarrassed face in his bicep. Some of the crew whistled out, while others cheered.
 “Huh, did I fall asleep?” Ace raised his head up. A piece of corn was stuck up his nose. His eyes settle on you and Marco. A big smile formed on his face. “Good. My work as a wingman is done.” His head slammed back down on the plate. Everyone shrugged his action off and continued eating.
 You and Marco sat down next to whitebeard who gave you an approving smile.
 “Do you want to sleep with me tonight?” Marco whispered in your ear. You nod your head. After dinner you escaped to Marco’s room. He carried your body as if it was weightless all the way there. He laid you gently on his bed and crawled beside you.
 “I love you.” You say barely above a whisper as he pulls you close to him. The warmth from his body engulfed you.
 “I love you too, more than you’ll ever know.”

Marco and Ace (Separate) With an Insecure plus sized reader (Female)
Request- Hi, I really liked your hurt-comfort stories. Could you do Ace, Marco or Vista with a female reader who is not conventionally attractive. Maybe someone makes a comment about looks or weight? I read a lot of stories where reader has a "small frame" and it makes me feel sad about my body. If you don't take request ignore this. Thank you :)
AN- This request hit home, as a plus sized person myself I understand the pain of reader having a "small frame". But it does not make you any less worthy of love! I went with Marco and Ace! Thank you for the request and Thank you @seafoamxshayde for helping me edit!
Warnings- Violence, Self Hatred, mentions of knives, light cussing, mentions of insecurities about looks/weight. Angsty with fluffy endings!
Base Story
 The atmosphere on the Moby was as lively as ever. The smell of booze laced with Thatch’s top tier food filled the cool night air. You watch as  your fellow crew mates dance around with mugs in their hands- singing songs, sometimes their words slurred. A chuckle escaped your lips. It’s times like this you don’t regret becoming a pirate. You walk over to the only open seat on deck, it was at a table filled with newcomers. You don’t really mind, knowing you need to get comfortable with them sooner or later.
 You slot yourself between two of the newbies. The men looked at you for a moment but turned their attention back to each other. Your plush thigh accidentally brushed up against the man on your right, he snarled before rolling his eyes. Typical. You know these men dream of hot mermaids or drop dead gorgeous women in general. Everything you are not. If you were, the men around you would be pouring your drinks and flirting you up. But you notice the look in their eyes, it calls out “She is undesirable.” And you feel the rejection burrowing deep within your chest. You try to shake your thoughts, tonight is supposed to be fun right? You attempt to jump into a few conversations but we’re dismissed. Not giving up you turned to the man on your left who slammed his mug against the oak table.
 “Man, I have drunk so much I feel like I’m going to die.” He let out a burp and wiped the foam from his mouth. “Too bad if I do. I’ll die without knowing the warm touch of a woman.” An idea popped into your head. You slowly reached out and touched the man's shoulder. The table went quiet as all eyes turned to you.
 “There you go. I hope it was everything you ever dreamed of.” You let out a laugh and gave him a playful smack on the back. The man snickered and his eyes caught yours.
 “Let me add to my previous statement. I want the touch of a beautiful woman. Am I right, fellas?” Your eyes widened,  the men around you started laughing and banging their hands against the table. Your eyes go to your lap. You look at your stomach, how it sticks out. The same stomach you’ve held a knife up to. Wishing you could cut the fat off. Then your eyes travel to your plush thighs. You realize that even you are disgusted by your flawed body. Ugly. Fat. Undesirable. Freak. These words repeat  like a mantra in your head. The laughter died down and eyes fell on you yet again. You needed to say something.
 “Yeah.” You could only mutter one word. You followed it with a laugh that seemed to satisfy them. Their conversations switched to different things as you sat mortified. You could feel the building pressure in your face. You wanted to cry, you wanted to scream. Every fiber in your body said to get up and go hide in your self loathing.
 “Thatch where are you going?” You turn around and see the cook walking towards the kitchen.
 “Someone has to wash the dishes.” Thatch stretched his arms out dramatically. “It’s going to be a tough job.”
 “Commander Thatch let me do the dishes!” Your voice was shaky, but hopefully he didn’t notice.
 “Are you sure? You just got here Y/N, you haven't even eaten yet.” He quirked a brow at you.
 “I’m sure. Plus I do a better job than you.” You throw some playful banter to throw him off your trail.
 “Okay then.” He returned to the table he was sitting at. Ace, Marco, and pops were also resting there.
 Without another word you make a beeline to the kitchen. Tears pooled in your eyes, causing them to blur. Once you got to the safety of the kitchen and made sure you were alone, you came undone. The sobs that left your mouth echoed in the kitchen. You wonder what it is like to be thin and beautiful, to have that power that could make a man turn his head. You wish you were small, you wish you were cute. But you are big.  You wish you were a delicate flower in the wind, one who could be easily picked up by a man. But you were a rock that had sunk deep within the ocean. A rock no one wanted or sought after. You are worthless. You were drowning in your mind  with an anchor tied around your foot. No one could save you, or so you thought.
 Marco The Phoenix
Tumblr media
  “NO PLEASE COMMANDER!” A man screams out, pulling you from your thoughts. The blood curdling scream came from the deck. You could not help but be curious, so you peek out of the kitchen door. There was a group of men standing in a circle cheering on someone. Hoping to get a better view you walk out towards the railing. A burst of azure fire shoots into the dark sky. Looking down in the middle of the circle you see Marco in his half phoenix form. He had a skull crushing talon gripped around a man's head. You notice the clothes on the man, the realization hits you like lighting. It was the man from the table.
 “How dare you.” Marco’s voice booms. You have never seen him this angry before, he was always so calm and collected. Seeing him like this was scary to say the least.  “You wanna know something newbie? I can hurt you just as much as I can heal you.” You see blood trickling down the side of the man's head. His body was thrashing around, begging for Marco to let him go.
 “Marco, I think that's enough. You’ve beat a lifetime of fear into him.” Thatch tried to reason with the Doctor, but it was no good. You wonder what could have got Marco this riled up?
 “Shut it Thatch. I’m only done with him when I say so. I ought to throw your pathetic ass overboard for saying what you said about Y/N-yoi.” Marco removed his Talon only to wrap it around the man's throat. “Now listen up, prick. Y/N may not be beautiful in your worthless eyes, but to me she is the most beautiful woman that ever walked the earth.” That statement made your heart flutter.
 “Commander, I'm sorry. Please let me go.” The man pawed at the talon. Marco smirked down at him in triumph. He slowly released the talon, causing the man to gasp out for air.
 “So now that we cleared that up.” Marco grabbed the collar of his shirt and brought him close to his face. “I’m not going to kill you so consider it your lucky day. But I recall Y/N went to go do dishes. So you're gonna take her place, got it?”
 “Yes Commander Marco.” The man got up and stumbled right back to the ground.
 “Good, now hurry before I change my mind.” Marco gave him one last death glance before he ran up the stairs, passing you in at a frantic speed as he busted the kitchen door open.
 Your head turned back to the crowd below you. Marco was staring right at you with a gentle smile on his face. He must have known you were there the entire time.  Heat rose to your cheeks like a wildfire when your eyes met his. You'd be lying if you said you didn't have a crush on him. But you never acted on it, knowing it would end up in a rejection like they all have. Marco was gorgeous. Tall and strong, yet so gentle. Plus  a doctor of all things.  Why would he ever want someone like you? The negative thoughts seeped back into your mind. The smile that adorned Marco’s face turned to one of concern. Before you could turn and run away a flash of blue stopped you in your tracks. Marco’s blue wings of fire were spread in front of you before disappearing from his body.
 “Hey gorgeous, wanna go talk somewhere more private?” Marco motioned at the sea of eyes below you. The heat found its way back to your cheeks at the attention you were receiving. You nod shyly. Marco placed a hand on the middle of your back and led you to Moby's back deck. You cringe at his hand placement. It was ghosting over the fat you hated so much. You subconsciously pull away from his warm touch. Marco quirked a brow at you as you walked over to the railing.
 “Marco, I really appreciate what you did and what you said. But you don’t have to lie to make me feel better.” Your nails digged into the wooden railing as tears of frustration rolled down your chubby cheeks. “It’s really cruel to give someone like me hope you know.” You bite your lip in hopes you don’t let out a sob.
 “Lie? Y/N everything I said was the truth.” Marco’s large hand grabbed your shoulder signaling for you to turn around but you couldn't face him.
 “SHUT UP.” You were at your breaking point. “Marco you know just as well as I do. I am not attractive. And I’m definitely not someone who you should waste your time fighting for. I mean just look at me. I’m a monster. I’m big, I take up too much space. And I-” You turn to face him. You expect the look of disgust like you're used to seeing. But the eyes that look down on you show something different. They were filled with adoration and sadness. His hands grab the railing on both sides of your body, caging you between him and rails.
 “I am looking at you Y/N. But I don’t see a monster. All I see is the woman who I adore more than anything.” He reached his hand to cup your cheek, wiping away the tears in the process . You wanted to retract from his touch, but you craved the soothing feeling they gave. “ I know you don’t see what I see and I know you’ve been told things in the past that make you think what I’m telling you is a lie, but it is not. And if you’d let me, I’d like to prove to you everyday from here on out how much I truly love you. All of you.”
 For a moment you just stared at his face. Looking for signs of malicious intent, but there was none. His brown eyes were soft and twinkled with affection. You never thought a man would look at you like this in your lifetime. This was something you’d only experience in a book, but here you were on the back deck of the Moby sharing an intimate moment with the man you had fallen in love with.
 “Can I kiss you?” You notice a tint of pink on his cheeks. You shake your head in approval. Marco brought a hand under your chin to tilt it up, his lips connected with yours in a soft, sweet first kiss. The caterpillars you never let grow in your stomach had turned into butterflies. This man really loved you. You are wanted. You are desired. You both pull away and take in much needed air.
 “So I take that as a yes?” Marco’s face was fully flushed and you don’t think it’s from the lack of oxygen.
 “Of course it’s a yes.” Marco let out a relieved sigh. Your emotions were running wild, you could feel tears trying to start again.
 “Hey now, no more tears, pretty girl. Even if they are happy ones. I don’t think my heart can handle it.” He brought his hand up to his heart dramatically causing you to laugh at his antics.
 “Okay fine. No more crying. I’d hate to kill the best and only doctor on the ship.” A new found confidence finds its way to you as you reach up and take his hand from his chest, lacing it with yours. His hand grips yours back giving you all the reassurance you need.  “We better hurry back to the party. Hopefully there is some food left for us.” Marco’s eyes widened. You and him both know food goes fast on the Moby.
 “Oh crap you're right. Now that you mention it I’m starving.” You hear a grumble form in Marco’s stomach.
 “I guess almost killing a guy and confessing to me has worked you up an appetite.” You laugh as you begin to walk with Marco hand in hand.
 “It did. But I’d do it all over again. Both kicking that bums ass and confessing to you dear.” He brought your hand up and kissed your knuckles. The gesture makes your heart flutter.
 The Moby was still lively even after the fight that took place. If anything it was more so. Marco led you to the table with Pops, Ace and Thatch. Pops let out his signature laugh as you and Marco sat down.
 “Son, you sure know how to put on a show.” Marco let out a weary chuckle at pops statement.
 “Yeah, sorry for the ruckus pops. I just couldn't let that slide-yoi.” His arm reached around you and pulled your body so you were snug against him. “What kind of man would I be if I didn’t stand up for the woman I love.” The men at the table all smiled at Marco’s declaration.
 “Look who grew some balls.” Thach stuck his tongue out causing Marco to kick him from underneath the table. “OUCH. Dammit Marco I was just joking. But in all seriousness I’m happy  for you both. Dare I say you make a cute couple.” The cook gave a sincere smile.
 “I think so too. Tho Y/N may be a little too good for you.” Again Marco kicked, this time it was Ace who fell victim. “Can’t pull that move on me bird brain.”
 “Ace I swear I’ll throw you overboard. See how cocky you are then.” Marco stood up from the table and Ace followed . You reached for his purple jacket and pulled him back down to the table laughing your head off.
 “Less arguing, more eating and drinking.” Marco smiled down and gave your forehead a soft peck.
 “Okay, but only because you're cute.” He sent you a wink that made your stomach do a backflip. “Ace I’ll put your ass whooping on hold for now. With that being said,  let’s dig in.” Marco pulled a huge plate of meat towards you and let you pick your piece out first like a true gentleman.
 The rest of the night you spent in pure bliss. Not once did you think about your body or how much you disliked how you looked. You ate without any guilt. Your thigh was connected with Marco’s, but he welcomed it. Loving the feeling of your body so close to his. He was proud to call you his, as were you.

 “Pull yourself together Y/N” You bring your hands up to your cheeks. “I did say I’d wash the dishes for Thatch.” You look at the massive pile and you regret it instantly, but it got you away from the table.
 You walk over to the sink and turn the hot water on. You pour a hearty amount of dish soap into the flowing water and watch as the bubbles fill the sink. The smell of the lemon dish soap filled your nostrils. It was calming. The handle squeaked as you turned the faucet off. Rolling your sleeves up you got to work immediately. One after another you washed the dishes. Scrub, rinse, repeat, scrub, rinse repeat. You felt like you’ve spent an eternity washing the dishes, but you weren't even halfway through the pile. You let out a sigh as you rest your arms on the sink. Looking down in the water you met with your reflection. You’ve never been one to look in mirrors or anything reflective due to hating what looked back at you. But for whatever reason you were locked on water.
 You understand why the man said what he said. How could anyone see beauty in this face in the water? You hated her. You hated you. Tears from your eyes and into the soap water below.
 “Dammit.” Your hand clashed your reflection in the water out of frustration.
 “Yeah Y/N, show those dishes whose boss!” You yelped in surprise at the voice. You whipped your head around to see the one and only Ace standing with a huge smile on his face.
 “Ace, what are you doing here?” Your eyes met him for a moment before you looked away. You hoped he didn’t notice your tears.
 “Hey, what's wrong?” You should have known better. Nothing gets past fire fist Ace.  He walked closer to you. “You didn’t get hurt did ya?” His eyes studied your body to see if there was any injury.
 “No, I’m fine.” You turn back around and go back to doing dishes. Ace walked up beside you, grabbing the dish you had washed out of your hand.
 “Here, you wash and I’ll dry.” His wide smile sent a wave of comfort over you.
 “Thank you.” The two of you worked in silence. You would occasionally glance over at him, watching his muscles flex as he dried the dishes.
 “Like what ya see hmm?” Busted. Yours eyes shot away from the smirking man.
 “I umm,” Your words stutter as you lose the grip on the dish you were washing. It sank back into the soapy water.
 “I’m just teasing ya Y/N. Look all you want.” Ace bumped his hip into yours playfully. You swayed slightly before side eyeing him. Ace has always been a flirt. The attention he would give you made you feel good, but you know it was all just for fun. Ace could have any woman he wanted. You’ve seen the women that throw themselves at him. You could not compete. A man like Ace deserves a gorgeous woman by his side. Not a fat nobody like you.
 “Hey Y/N what's on your mind. You sure look lost in thought over there.” Ace’s velvet voice pulled you from your bleak thinking.
 “Nothing.” You hand the next dish over to him.
 “Stop lying. You know you can tell me anything.” His hands reach over yours, grabbing some bubbles. You watched as he brought them up to his face. He slapped the bubble on and made what appeared to be a beard. “This is the beard of a trustworthy, sophisticated man.” He made his voice sound deeper than what it was. You couldn’t stop the laughter that erupted from you. Ace smiled happily. “It’s good to see a smile on that pretty face.”
 “Haven’t you teased me enough tonight?” You roll your eyes and hand him the last dish.
 “Who said I was teas-” Ace cut himself off and started coughing. “Damn I got soap in my mouth, gross.” Ace flung his hat so it hung on his back. He held his tongue out and turned the water on. He stuck his head under the faucet, letting the water drown out the soap taste. You let out a snort at the sight. He turned the water off and brought his head up. Water droplets fell from his dark locks and rolled down his tone chest. “You think that’s funny huh? Well how about this?” Ace shook his head like a dog, making the water shake out and land on you.
 “Ace you jerk!” You step back and grab some bubbles from the sink to throw at him.
 “Ohh so that’s how you're gonna play. Well then, in that case.” Ace grabbed a huge pile of bubbles and threw them at you. “Take this, BUBBLE FIST.” Ace threw the bubble only for them to float gracefully to the floor.
 “That was so lame.” You stuck your tongue out at the pouting man.
 “Yeah, I’ll admit it was very lame.” He scratched the back of his head as a blush found its way to his freckled cheeks. “Well that’s enough fun for now. Now will you please tell me what made you cry?” You know he wasn’t going to stop until you fessed up.
 “Fine.” You tell him everything that happened. After reliving the incident you started crying again. “But you know what Ace, he wasn’t lying.” Ace watched as you broke down in front of him. His eyes grew darker and darker by the second.
 “You stay here. I’m going to take care of this.” Ace bent over and placed a kiss on your forehead before turning around. You watched in shock as the jolly roger on his back flexed with every angry step he took.
 “Wait, what?” You snap back into reality and realize what he is about to do. “Wait Ace.” You followed behind him but it was too late. He jumped up on the railing and looked down on the party below.
 “Which one of you assholes made my Y/N cry?” Ace yelled out grabbing everyone's attention. Everyone went silent before the man stood up.
 “Y/N, you talking about that fatass that sat beside me earlier.” The man stood up, he was obviously drunk considering he was slurring his words. “I meant what I said. What are you gonna do about it punk?” Ace turned around and looked at you.
 “Don’t listen to him Y/N. You're gorgeous. Now sit back and enjoy the show.” Ace stretched out his arms and legs. “Hold on to this for me please.” He places his hat on top of your head before jumping off the rails. You watch as his lower half turns into fire. He floats through the air and drops down on the table where the man was, breaking it clean in half.
 “What the hell.” The man fell from his seat and onto Moby's wooden deck. Ace towered over him with a look that would make any man tremble in fear.
 “You brought this on yourself. This will be a lesson you will never forget.” Ace grabbed the man. “Don’t” Punch “Ever.” Punch. “Talk.” Punch. “About my girl.” Ace landed one last blow on the man.
 “Fuck you and that ugly bitch.” One of the man's teeth fell out with a little blood.
 “Guess you didn’t learn huh?” Ace grabbed the man's throat. Flames erupt from Ace’s hands. He slung the man back and finished him off with his signature “Fire fist” Sending the man flying over board. You watched the scene unfold slack jawed. The guy deserved it and your glad Ace took care of him, but it was too much.
 Your knees drop to the floor, causing Ace’s hat to fall beside you. Your vision was turning red and you felt light headed. Why did he kiss me? Why did he refer to me as his girl? Was he just playing with my feelings?  Why would he fight over someone as undeserving as me? Your mind raced before you face planted into the floor, losing consciousness.
 ~~~~A few hours later~~~~
 “You dumbass. Why in the hell did you think that was a good idea?” Your eyes open to see Marco scolding Ace who had a very prominent knot on his head.
 “You're right I’m sorry. It’s just I couldn't just stand back and let that guy get away for making Y/N cry. Seeing tears falling down her pretty face really struck a nerve in me and I acted on it. I don't regret doing it though.” Neither of the men notice you awake.
 “Make sure you take her into consideration next time before diving head first into a fight. You have a lot to learn.” Marco shook his head and looked over at you. A small smile made his way on your face before he motioned Ace in your direction. He turned his body around and ran to your side.
 “You're awake!” Ace kneeled beside your bed and took your hand in his.
 “How do you feel Y/N?” Marco asked as he brought  you a glass of water, you gladly accepted it and gulped it down.
 “I feel tired. Other than that I’m fine.” You lift your body off the bed as Ace grabs the empty glass from your hands.
 “Good. I diagnose you with being overwhelmed by this idiot.” Marco wacked Ace in the back of the head. “ Sadly for you Y/N there is no cure. My condolences.”
 “Oh no, how will I live?” You say dramatically falling back on the bed. You close your eyes and stick your tongue like a dead animal causing both men to laugh.
 “I’m sure you will manage. But in all seriousness you’ll be okay. Stay in bed for the next few days and get some rest.” Marco walked towards your bedroom door and turned the handle. “I’ll leave you two alone. If you need me let me know. I’m sure you two have a lot to talk about.” Marco winked and walked out of the room.
 “I’m really sorry Y/N. I hope you can forgive me.” Ace’s eyes looked down. He was riddled with guilt and it hurt you to watch.
 “It’s okay, I’ll forgive you if you answer a question for me?” Ace nodded, signaling for you to continue. “Well I guess it’s more like two. First, Why did you kiss me? Second, why did you refer to me as your girl?”
 “Well, to answer both. I like you. No, if I’m being more honest. I love you Y/N.” Ace smiled as he looked at you. You became aware of his gaze and grabbed a pillow, shielding your stomach from him. “Don’t hide yourself from me.” He reached out and pulled the pillow away from you.
 “Ace, I'm not worth your love. You deserve someone pretty.” You lower your head, causing Ace to click his tongue.
 “The first part is a lie, but I can fully back that second statement. I know you don’t see yourself as the ideal girl. But in my eyes you are everything I’ve ever wanted and then some. You're sweet, you have the cutest laugh, you're fun to be around and don’t get me started on your hips and as-” You throw a pillow before you could let him finish. “Sorry, I deserved that. But what I’m trying to get at is you are beautiful. I wish you didn’t think so poorly of yourself. I will do whatever it takes to show you just how stunning you are.” Ace cupped your cheek in his hand, rubbing up and down lovingly.
 “Ace, what do you mean by that?” Your cheeks heat up under his soft touch.
 “Well pretty, what I’m saying is. Do you want to do this fool the honor of calling you his girlfriend?” Was this real? Did Ace really just ask you out?
 “Am I dreaming?” You reach your hand out and trace your finger over his freckles.
 “Nope, it’s real life. Here let me prove it to you.” Ace leaned over and planted his soft lips on yours. Your hands found their way to his soft hair, gently intertwining your fingers within the dark strands. Ace pulled away and planted little kisses all over your face. The heat in your face from his actions did not go unnoticed, “You look so cute when you're shy.” The smug man winked, causing you to hide your face in a pillow.
 “Portgas D. Ace.” You muffled from the pillow. “You are going to be the death of me.”
 “No, you're not dying anytime soon. We are going to grow old and wrinkly together whether you like it or not.” Ace stood up from the chair and stretched his body. “Now that sounds good doesn't it?”
 “Yeah, yeah it does.” You pull your face from the pillow to peer up at him.
 “Good. Now, I think I’ve terrorized you enough for one day.” Ace leaned down and kissed your forehead just like earlier. “I’ll let you get some rest sweet girl.” Ace turned to leave but you reached out and grabbed his hand before he got too far.
 “Ace, wait.” He turned and curled a brow at you. “WIll you stay with me, please?” Ace’s expression softened.
 “Of course I will. Is it okay If I lay next to you?” You nod and scooch over in the bed, giving Ace some room to lay down. He took his hat off and threw it on your nightstand. You could feel the heat radiate off him as he laid down in the bed. It took everything in you not to reach out for him. You were unaware how hard you were staring at him until he spoke up. “You know you could stare at me all night or.” Ace lifted his arm out to you. “Or you could come closer so I can hold you.”
 “But what If I’m too heavy and I-” You hesitated but Ace wrapped a strong arm around your midsection and nestled you into his toned chest.
 “You will never be too heavy for me sweet girl.” His lips meet your forehead yet again. “Now get some rest, I’ll be right here when you wake up. Goodnight Y/N, sweet dreams.” You let your tense body relax in his hold. Between the warmth of his body and the feeling of protection being in his strong hold gave you, you fell asleep looking forward to all the nights like this to come.
 ~~Bonus~~
 “Vista move, I can’t see.” Izou whispered  while pushing the large man away from the door.
 “Young love, such a heartwarming sight.” Vista swooned at the sight of you in Ace’s embrace.
 “Cut it out you two you're going to wake them up.” Marco came up from behind and dragged them away from the door.
 “Fine.” Izou rolled his eyes and walked away, Vista followed. Marco made sure they left before spying on yours and Ace’s sleeping forms. He hates to admit it, but you are both very adorable.
 “They grow up so fast.” He shut the door back before walking to his office. “Damn, I sound like a old man.”
"Isn't this place giving you the creeps?" Paimon stayed close to my head, her small hands clinging to the strap of my overall dress.
"Try not to think about it; that works for me." I swallowed the lump in my throat. After clearing an electro bubble maze, we had found ourselves in an empty hallway. We hadn't seen any monsters for a while, which was more concerning than if we had. In any other ruins, we'd already run into a mess of Hillichurls or traps, but things were too calm.
"Paimon can't do that." She pointed forwards, both of us freezing. "What is that?"
"A statue of Venti." It was hanging upside down by chains, a purple sphere in place of the usual stone orb.
"Look, the grand thief," Paimon yelled, tucking behind my back. I drew my spear, ready for a fight, but he didn't move.
"Hello?" I called to him. He was kneeling with his hands together, almost in prayer. "Sir?"
"Mister, are you okay?" Paimon went to the man, then turned with a pale face. "He's not breathing."
"I. I don't know what to do." My breath hitched, the man's head rolling off his body with a breeze that flowed from the statue.
"Let's report back to Ganyu and Lan." Paimon pushed me towards what looked like the exit.
"Ri-right." I was shaken up by the sight before me, but I was forced to move. I had never been more thankful for Paimon, as her hands encouraged me to run. There was something more sinister than I had ever imagined, and I needed to report it.
Weaving through halls and facing more traps, I couldn't pass them with ease. Bubbles popped against my face, shocking me at every turn. "Come on, (Y/n), you can do it." Paimon was floating above the mess. It would be convenient to be a pixie right about now. "Keep pushing!"
"Yeah," I shook off the pain and ran through the bubbles, reaching the top of the ruins. "Thanks for the encouragement, Paimon." I blinked and saw the dead thief on my eyelids; shaking off the horror, I kept going.
"You got it. Now, let's ahh." Our attention shifted. There was a large creature by the exit. He had an array of Hillichurls and mages with him. Something told me they weren't friends.
"I'm afraid you've seen too much." He glowed with an aura I had never felt before, the power adding pressure to the air I wasn't ready for. Crumbling to my knees, I saw the dead man in the corner of the room, then the upside-down statue, and the next thing I knew, a blade was cutting through my shoulder.
"(Y/n)!" Paimon shrieked but couldn't come any closer.
"You must be the Herald, right?" I stood up, trying to refocus my power. Dain had warned me about him, I knew it was best to run, but there was nowhere to go.
"That is correct, (Y/n)?" he hummed, looking at his underlings. "Catch her alive."
"What?" I shifted gears, keeping back the Hillichurls that charged me. I had faced many opponents, but never after seeing something so horrific. One by one, I stabbed, slashed, and forced the monsters back, making my way to the door. The Herald further increased the pressure in the room, and I had to work harder to stay upright. It was ten times worse than Xiao's karma could ever be. Xiao.
An arrow went through my side in a clean shot. Falling to my knees, I was swarmed, Hillichurls grabbing at my arms and legs, pulling me towards the Herald. I fought against them without much luck, my hands tied and my weapon far from reach.
"Get off her." Paimon threw rocks at the goonies, trying to help. Things weren't just going south, but already there. I had to say it fast before I passed out.
"Adeptus Xiao, please help," I called out his name with what strength I could find, hoping with every fiber in my being he could hear me. The pain was searing, and as a Hillichurl hit the wound on my side, I screamed, "Xiao!"
"You called. Nh." I couldn't see him, but knowing he showed up was enough to keep me awake.
"Xiao, be careful." As I spoke, a rag was shoved into my mouth. Despite this, I tried to keep talking, strangled screams filling the room.
"Watch the big guy, Xiao." Paimon hovered over me; her eyes fixed on my wounds.
"I am not concerned with him." Xiao had his mask on, jumping over the mob that surrounded me. He drove his spear through anyone that got in his way. The ones carrying me turned the opposite direction and tried to run, but with a few windy strokes of his spear, they let go. Xiao caught me, plucking the rag from my mouth and eyeing the blood that oozed onto his shirt.
"You came." I relaxed in his arms. "Thank you."
"An Adeptus never breaks their vow." He motioned Paimon to come down. Once she was close, Xiao grabbed her foot and transported us.
"Thank goodness you came just in time." Paimon started to swirl around the area. My vision was going in and out, but I realized that I was in Xiao's room at the Wangshu Inn.
"Hold still." Xiao laid me on his bed and disappeared from the site once more. It wasn't but a few seconds, but he reappeared with the Qingxin's top physician.
"What's the meaning of this?" He barked but stopped once he looked at me. "Traveler?"
"Hey doc." The adrenaline was wearing off, and I wasn't going to be able to stay up much longer. "I got a slash to the shoulder and an arrow to the side."
"Fix her." Xiao's tone was menacing, his hands pushing the medical kit he grabbed into the doctor's hands.
"We need to talk to Ganyu. There were some super sinister things in those ruins." Paimon started telling Xiao what happened as the doctor worked on me. The moment the doc poured disinfectant into my wound, I was out.
When I opened my eyes, it was dark out. My body was sore in ways it hadn't been sore since I fought with the vortex god. Knitting my brows together, I strained to get up. Sharply inhaling, a sob tried to leave my lips. Touching under my eyes, I had been crying in my sleep. Suddenly dreams of the grand thief's head rolling all came back. Wrapping my arms around myself, I groaned in more pain.
"Humans are so fragile." Xiao was resting at the foot of the bed. He stood, grasping a glass of water. Pressing it to my mouth, I took greedy gulps until my mouth no longer felt dry. "Your little friend told me what happened."
"You know I don't like to bother you often." I held out my hand, and to my surprise, he grabbed it. "But I wish I had called for you the moment I entered that room. I was thankful to have Paimon, but the pure dread that filled my chest…I still feel it. I've fought many battles, but I've never seen someone die like that."
Xiao scooted closer to me on the bed, wrapping his arm around my side. "It never gets easier. I wish you had called me sooner too. But there is no benefit to trying to change the past. I'm just thankful you called when you did."
" I may have saved multiple cities, but you're the one person I can always turn to when I'm in danger." I laid my head on his shoulder, squeezing his hands. "Thank you for saving me."
"Don't get caught up on formality. You don't need to be thankful; you just need to heal." His cheeks tinted pink, and his gaze shifted to the open window. "I was worried about you. The elemental pressure in that room was intense, even for an Adepti. I don't know how you managed to stay conscious for that long. If you had passed out, you wouldn't be here." He squeezed me closer, sighing.
"I'm here, though, and it was okay." I hugged him back, moaning as my freshly stitched skin shifted. "I'm not going anywhere for a while…I know I need to keep looking into this new enemy and taking commissions. But I don't want to relive what happened today."
"Stay here." He pressed his lips against my ear, whispering. "I'll watch over you."
"Xiao, that's asking too much of you." I yawned, letting go of his hand. "I want to, but I can't hold you back."
"You dare think you could hold back an Adepti?" His tone was stern, but his eyes sparkled. He was teasing me.
"I do. But if you insist, maybe the wonderful Adeptus Xiao could lay with me, so I don't wake up alone. I keep seeing the man's head roll in my dreams."
"Go to sleep, (Y/n). I'll wake you if it happens again." He pulled the cover over me and laid on top of it, wrapping my upper half with his arms.
"Goodnight, Xiao." My eyelids dropped, and he hummed in recognition.
My dreams were peaceful at first. They were of Xiao and me swimming outside the Inn, both of us racing to see who could reach the other side fastest, and I was able to beat him by a few strokes. Once on shore, he tackled me, latching onto my waist and pulling me back into the water. I was laughing so hard I couldn't breathe. I let him toss me into the deeper part of the river, and I stayed down, just to make him sweat. As I blinked, I saw a person, he wasn't praying, but he was--- Xiao floated above me. It wasn't even ten seconds, and he was diving down to get me. Our eyes locked, and I waved with a smile.
He only scowled, grabbing my hands and going back up for air. He laid me on his chest and floated on his back. "Don't toy with me."
"Don't toss me in." I laughed, rolling my plump body over to face him as he paddled back towards the Inn. "Though, I will admit I was tired after our race."
"I thought as much." His features softened, "you were faster than I anticipated. Where is that energy when we fight?"
"It's all used on trying to dodge your sprint attack." His chest was so warm; despite the cold water around us, there was nothing more comforting in the world.
"Excuses." He mumbles, placing a hand on my back.
"Maybe I should train harder." I hummed, slipping from his hold and swimming full speed towards the Inn. "I'll win this time."
"(Y/n), wait."
The further from him I got, the more my vision changed. The water turned to stone, and the Inn turned too, a statue of the seven but upside down. My chest grew tighter, and I looked at my hands. There was blood on the floor. No there, there was a body on the floor. Looking around the room, I noticed a head. It was about to mouth something to me.
"Xiao." I sat up in bed, hands pulling me back down.
"I'm right here." Xiao got me into his embrace and let me wiggle all I wanted in his grip. "It was just a nightmare."
"It was such a good dream, me and you were swimming. Then I was back in the ruins -and. I don't even want to think about it." I gripped his shirt, trying to catch my breath.
"I know. I'm right here. Nothing can hurt you." He assured me, tucking the blanket back into place. "When you fall back asleep, and you see me in your dream. Don't run off."
"What?" I stopped thinking about the day's event. "Xiao, were you eating my bad dreams? I thought you didn't do that anymore."
"I don't, at least for anyone else." Turning in his arms, I scooted till we were face to face.
"Xiao, I really do feel so safe when I'm with you." I leaned up, pecking my lips against his cheek. "When we're close like this, all I can think about is how sad I'll be when it ends. And I'll wonder when it will happen again. But I want to try to enjoy it, even if it is the last time." I started to trip over my words. "Anyways, I want to enjoy our time together. So, since you're watching my dreams, I'll go back to sleep. I don't know if I can make requests, but can we swim around that beautiful lake in Mondstat. The one Venti really likes?"
He doesn't say much but squeezes me tighter, slipping his hand into my hair. Listening to the thump of his heart, I eased back asleep.  My eyes were almost closed when I heard him whisper, "I'll never let go." A warm feeling settled in my chest as our spirits connected on another plane. We were in Windrise, the beautiful crystal flies floating around us with such grace.
Comrades to Lovers: Childe / Tartaglia / Ajax x Fem! Reader
    It happened by chance the first time. I was following a lead on a priceless artifact that had been missing for over three thousand years. It was a timepiece said to be embedded with the energy of the god Osial. While it wasn’t uncommon to find average artifacts from old gods and powerful vision wielders, it was hard to find one that belonged to such a notorious god. So, it didn’t surprise me when I ran into a masked man on my expedition. Thankfully, I had already cleared the monsters that lurked in the long empty halls of the ruins.
        “Oh, I see you’ve beaten me to the punch.” He drew his weapon, two water daggers forming around his hands. A vision barer, huh? “We’ll just have to fight for the prize.”
        “While the prize is of notable value, I doubt it’s the reason you or I ventured through these halls.” Dropping my shoulders, I held up the artifact. The decrepit mask did not belong to Osial or anyone else of notoriety. “But if it’s a fight you want, then you can use all the energy you saved walking through the halls, I cleared, to try to beat me.” I tucked the mask into my bag and twirled my spear around my hand. “In less, you wish to back down now?”
        “Oh, a worthy opponent?” He nodded, stepping towards me. “Don’t worry, comrade. I won’t kill you, but I won’t go easy on you either.”
        “Fine by me, Tangerine.” Charging into his personal space, I jabbed towards his chest, his thin body easily missing my strikes, even catching onto the pattern I used to throw people off their rhythm. Strike after jab, he danced to the pace I set, laughing all the while.
        “Oh, no vision, huh?” He hummed, cutting the side of my arm. While he was focused on the blood, I slashed his side, planting my boot to his hip and propelling him to the floor.
        “Don’t need one.” I waited for him to get back up, catching my breath. “Just for the record, I don’t intend to kill you either. So that’s why I’m not kicking you while you’re down.”
        “Ah, so you like an honorable fight. Interesting, I thought treasure hoarders didn’t have any morals?” He kicked his legs over his head and slammed them back, forcing himself to feet.
        “I’m not a treasure hoarder.” I closed my eyes, dodging his dagger and whacking him with the butt of my spear. “I do contract work if you must know.”
        “Is that so?” He elbowed my side, and I tumbled onto the floor.
        “Yes. Though this is an independent endeavor.” To my surprise, he waited for me to get on my feet before trying to stab me again. The tile under my foot shifted, the walls opening up. Snap.
        “Huh-ah” The floor split open, and I was going down fast. Tangerine grabbed my hand. Tumbling into his chest, he steadied me...he was stronger than he looked.
        “Run.” He let go of my hand, sprinting towards the door that was closing. He beat me to the door, pulling out a bow and wedging it open. “Go on, I got it.” He grunted, slowing the door so I could slip through.
        “Crap.” The next door was closing too. Picking up a rock from the floor, I tossed it into the mechanism, lodging it open.
        “This isn’t looking good.” My competitor held the next door while I did the same rock trick, going back and forth through each room. Each time the openings were smaller and smaller.
        “Nope, how didn’t I trigger that tile earlier?” I huffed, swinging my arms and pumping my jello legs faster.
        “Once the artifact was removed, it could have triggered the switch.” The last door was up ahead, and it heavier than all the rest, with no visible mechanic. I grabbed the man’s hand and gave it all I got. Pushing him through the door, I barely slid through, landing face-first into the grass. I gasped for breath and kissed the earth.
        He just laughed. It was deep, his hands clutching his stomach as he tried to catch his breath. “You okay, Comrade?”
        “All that work for a lousy artifact? No, I’m not alright.” I giggled, my lungs burning with every heave. “But, that was a fun fight, though I do think you won this time. Only because I was already pretty beat up from getting through the Hillichurls.”
        “I see. Well, if we are both looking for the same item, and I think we are. Then we’ll see each other again before you know it.” Once he was on his feet, he hovered over me, offering his hand. “Until next time?”
        Taking his hand, he pulled me to my feet and placed a roll of gauze in my palm. “Sure thing. But I’m not letting you take that artifact.”
        “I wouldn’t want it any other way.” And like that, he was gone, jumping off into the distance. As soon as he was out of eyeshot, I rested my hands on my knees and audibly caught my breath. Beyond exhausted, I decided to camp outside the domain and call it a night.
OOOOOOOOOOOOO
        The next time we met, it was expected. Only, for this round, Tangerine had gotten himself into a bind. He was halfway through the Hillichurl domain when he ran into a hydro abyss mage. He was handling himself well enough, but no matter how hard he hit the mage's shield, it wouldn't go down. Lucky for him, I was on the upper level. Taking my spear, I jumped on top of the water shield, breaking it.
        "Hey, Girlie." He smiled, taking his bow and finishing the mage in a few well-placed shots. "Falling from the sky suits you." The ground shook under us; we both nodded, pushing deeper into the ruins.
        "What's that supposed to mean, Tangerine?" I skipped over a weak spot on the floor. Tangerine clutched my waist and yanked me to his side. With his free hand, he made a melee and stabbed a hillichurl hiding behind the door frame.
        "It means you're a fallen angel. Or that's what I meant." He let me go, widening his stance as more monsters poured out from the next door. Like he didn't just invade my space and save me a nasty bruise. "Back on the topic at hand, how about we work together? When we find the artifact, we'll battle it out with each other."
        "That sounds like a solid plan. Plus, if we split the mobs, I'll have more energy for work tomorrow." I dove headfirst into the crowd, sweeping feet and jabbing masks. Tangerine backed me up with his bow, our duo working through the group at a decent pace. Still, after several minutes of fighting and wave after wave. We both were getting low on energy. The domain had to go on forever. I tripped on one of the Hillichurls feet and barely caught myself. I was grabbed by my hair, and just as quickly, the grip went lax, and a monster fell dead behind me.
        "Girlie, come here." He motioned me back, opening the crowd with multiple shots. Weaving through the sea of monsters, I tucked behind him and took a moment to catch my breath. "Riptide." His vision glowed, and he pointed his arrow to the ceiling. A wave of water flew out from around us, and arrows rained from the sky. They hit the monsters on the field, slashing them.
        "Thanks." Gripping my spear, I was about to dive back in. He grabbed my arms and handed me his bow.
        "How's your aim, Comrade?" The monsters started to get to their feet, and more joined them.
        "Not great. But don't worry, I won't shoot near you." I took the weapon, the tension on the string stronger than most bows I've used before, but still not so intense I couldn't' draw it.
        "Good, I trust you. It's my turn to take the front." He charged into the spot I had just been in, his water daggers cutting through the monsters with an easy that was hard to pull off. Now that I had a chance to see his fighting style from behind, I could tell he was well trained and proficient at his craft.
        Refocusing on my task, I shot the Hillichurls that were firing arrows at us from above. My aim wasn't great, but I managed to knock them back a few times, glancing at my 'comrade' to check his status. In the few seconds I looked away, he had cleared the mob.
        "Impressive." Running to his side, I passed him the bow. "So let's see if the artifact is truly here."
        "Lead the way, Comrade." He stayed a few steps behind me, but it didn't feel dangerous as it should have. From the way he had just finished that mob, there's no way he wouldn't beat me in a full-on fight. He was holding back the last time we met…but why.
        "Damn it." I opened the chest and saw it filled with books and a few rusty swords. "A bust."
        "What a shame." He peaked into the chest. "Hmm, you missed something." He leaned past me, pulling out a scroll from the bottom corner. "Yea, this should be worth something."
        "How can you tell?" I cocked my head, wishing I had seen it first. While the paper was yellowed, the words were still in perfect condition.  He handed it to me, letting me get a closer look at the details.
        "It's worth 20,000 mora at the least. You should sell it in Liyue harbor. I heard someone was looking for a piece like this." He stalked towards the exit.
        "Hey, don't you want to fight for it?" The words flew from my mouth before I could think about what I was saying. He could and might possibly kick my ass.
        "We haven't found what we're looking for yet. There will be plenty of time to battle, Comrade. Go home and get some rest." He ran off once more, not evening taking a trophy for his efforts.
        "What a strange man." I hummed, tucking the scroll in my bag, along with a few books. I tied the swords to my side and began the long trek out of the ruins.
OOOOOOOOOOOOO
        When I arrived home, Father was already asleep. This made my life so much easier, as I snuck to my room and sorted my treasure. Tomorrow I’d sneak away during lunch and sell all my bounty for the month. I had learned a heavy lesson six months ago, and I wasn’t going to make the same mistake this time. So, I pushed my treasures away and changed into something more comfortable. Sitting on the wooden palette, I tried not to wake my siblings. There was so much left to do.
        With the money tucked away in my new bank account, I returned home. Tangerine was right, the scroll brought me over 20k mora, and the extra books I grabbed were worth 500 each. It was more than enough to open up a savings account and ensure that my money wouldn't slip away this time. It didn't take too long to set up, but I would have to hustle to make it back to the boat.
        Jogging through the harbor, I noticed a stall selling ticker fish. My stomach growled so loud a few people turned their heads, but I pushed past the cramp as my stomach begged for food. I took another step and almost tumbled. My little brother was pulling at my apron, pointing at the toy booth.
        "Sis, sis, I want the dragon kite. It looks just like Rex Lapis." He tugged me to the booth, making sure I could see the intricate pattern on the scales and the white fangs. "Can we get it? Please. I've done all my chores this month."
        "You are making a strong case." The 3000 mora in my pocket wasn't much, but it might be enough for a kite. "Let's see what I can do."
        Kiri clung to my leg as I waded to the older lady that was running the booth. "Good afternoon, ma'am." I bowed slightly, gesturing to the Rex Lapis kite. "How much for the dragon kite?"
        "Ah, that's our special edition kite honoring the memory of Rex Lapis. That one costs 5000 mora." Suddenly, my pockets didn't feel heavy as they should have.
        "Please." Kiri wrapped his arms around my thigh, burying his head into my skirt.
        "Do you have anything in the 1,000 mora range?" I glanced around to make sure father wasn't close by then pulled the money from my coin purse.
        "Of course." She held up a beautiful red and gold kite. The shape wasn't as intricate, but the pattern of the fabric was stunning. "This has the same scale pattern as the other one."
        "Look at that Kiri, it's beautiful." His eyes fell, and I wanted so badly to go to the bank. But the minute he was caught with such an expensive toy, I was busted. "It matches your shirt too. Come on, you can fly it on the boat ride home."
        "I guess." He took the kite, running back down the docks.
        "Kiri, you- ah." I turned back to the lady, placing the coins in her hand. "Sorry for him running off. Kids will be kids."
        "Trust me, I am well aware." She laughed, "thank you for the business."
        "Thank you." I turned, running towards where I had seen Kiri last. The harbor was always full of life, so it was easy to lose a kid. He was old enough to safely make it to the boat, but I still wanted to talk to him about the details. He found the coin on the street and bought the kite for himself. That was the story.
        "Kiri?" I called, looking up and down and around the port. "Kiri, come here." He was nowhere to be found. Minutes ticked by, and I wasn't panicking, but I was curious what he was doing. It was a safe area. Kids walked alone all the time. Everyone helped watch over the children, and it was a great area. But he usually was easy to spot.
        "(Y/n), (Y/n)!" he bounded around the corner, holding up the dragon kite. "Look what I got!"
        "How did you get that?" My mouth hung open, pulling him towards the docks.
        "A man bought it for me. He said he was your friend." He shoved his hand in his pocket and pulled out an ornate hairpin. The teal jewels were in the shape of a wave washing over the base of the clip. There were white jewels making the sea that shined so bright against the sliver base. "He got this for you too. I promised I wouldn't lose it, so he got me the kite for bringing this to you."
        "Huh, which friend?" I knew several men in the harbor. Most were older s who had given me a gift or two on occasion. It's not totally out of the ordinary, but this gift seemed…more expensive than most. It could be fake, which would make sense, but even if it was fake, I still loved it...yea, it had to be faux jewels.
        "Next time you see them, point them out. I need to thank them. And you better had thanked them too, since you got not one, but two kites today." I patted his hair.
        "I did. I was very grateful." He paused, tilting his head. "But I did earn these kites, to be fair."
        "Yes, you did. Hard work pays off, bub." I ruffled his hair, picking up our pace. "Maybe next time we come to town, we can get another little treat." I slipped my fringe back with my new pin and got ready for a barrage of questions that were bound to come my way.
OOOOOOOOOOOOO
It was days like this I prayed for a cryo vision. The mask resting against my swollen face was bearing down on the most sensitive parts of my head. Pulling it away from my skin, I wet my fingers and ran the cool water over my scalp. It didn't ease the pain, but it made me feel a little better about my circumstance.
        The Tangerine and I had run into each multiple times over the past month, spending almost every night clearing ruins or navigating treasure hoarder supply lines. At this point, whoever got there first, waited on the other to show up. We never planned where to go next, but I was sure we had the same informant. How else would we keep getting the same intel?
        A stick broke, and I whipped around, ready to greet my' comrade,' but was met with a group of bandits. Taking a deep breath, I let my mask rest against my face again. "Good evening. What can I do for you lads?" I crossed my arms and leaned against the entrance.
        "You can move." One said, holding up a bottle, which was on the verge of bursting into flames.
        "Oh, so you and I have the same end goal." I hummed, scooting to the side. "Go ahead. I'm not in the mood to fight for a piece of junk." Odds were, the inside would be another bust. I wasn't in the best shape for a one v eight, fight to the death.
        "Smart girl." The leader put his bottle away, approaching the door, but instead making a detour. He looked me up and down, his eyes lingering a little too long on my chest. "But what is a pretty young girl doing at a temple alone? Seams like a poor decision."
        "My friend will be here any minute." I shoved him back a few feet. "Even if I was alone, the only person making a poor decision would be the man who chose to cross me." I summoned my weapon and held my head high. Glaring at him through my mask, his face contorted in anger.
        "You bitch." He swung a haymaker, which I dodged by drawing up my arm to block. With a swift flick, I jabbed the blunt end of the spear into his throat. He fell to his knees, turning purple as his windpipe collapsed.
        "Y'all better get him to a doctor." I looked at his crew, unsurprised when several flaming bottles flew at my feet. The fire broke out under me, scorching my legs. Jumping through the sparks, I was hit with an electric shock that sent me to my knees. While I was down, the biggest man on the team drove his shovel against my spine. Before he could swing again, I cut his ankles. This bought enough time to get back on my feet.
        "She's nuts." One man mumbled, drawing my attention back to the leader. Two of the lackeys were carrying him off towards the nearest town, and the rest were still poised to fight.
        "Got her." I was grabbed from behind. "Don't struggle." A blade was pressed to my throat, and my wiggling stopped at the first trickle of blood. "Now, let's see who's under here." He cut the strap of my mask and shoved me forward.
        "It's the Fisherman's daughter." One of them mumbled, and the whispers only got lower as my blood rushed to my ears.
        Clutching my throat, I picked up my mask from the ground and tried to fix the string. The men mumbled about needing to scram before my father came looking for me. He was a notorious sea bass fisherman, bringing in the best fish this side of Liyue. But he wasn't just known for the fish he caught, but the men he dumped outside the harbor. He was a gambler and a cheat, he didn't play by the rules, and when he lost, he lost hard. If he caught someone cheating, it was rumored he'd string them up on the deck of our boat and get rid of them before dawn.
        The truth of it, he was a drunk. He was a strong man, capable of killing another living being, but he was more interested in women and alcohol. He had no concern for me, past what I could do for him, which is why he would never chase me down. But I didn't need to mention that the goons were about to run for their lives. Maybe that dumb rumor was in my favor tonight.
        "We need to scram. We'll come back for the treasure." That was the final push, and they started to run in the direction the rest had gone.
        "Tsk tsk tsk." Someone was in the shadows, blocking their path. "It seems you've done something unforgivable. Hurting my comrade is something I can't let slide." Tangerine emerged from the shadows, soaked in blood...
        "Run." The men scattered, some climbing the mountain and others trying to hide inside the ruins.
        "Run all you want. I'll still win." Tangerine sprinted, standing over me and pointing his bow towards the sky. It was the same move he had done many times before, but it was imbued with more power this time. Water wrapped around the bandits, slashing them multiple times before they all fell. Their screams were soon drowned out, and it was silent once more. All it took was one move...and they weren't moving.
        "You would come right as I had them running." I tried to laugh, but my throat ached.
        "I'm here now. I'm sorry I was late; work got in the way." He pulled out a handkerchief from his pocket and pressed it against my wound, peeking at the size. "From the looks of it, you'll be okay. But we still need to find a doctor to wrap this properly."
        "I can't afford a doctor." My vision blurred, my hand giving up from under me. Tangerine grabbed me before I could hit the dirt and positioned me into his arms.
        "Don't worry about it, Comrade. It's on me. I was the one who didn't get here in time." He started running off like he did at the end of every night, but I was with him this time. The boy could run so much faster than I ever could, his long legs covering tons of ground. Even carrying another person, he always surprised me. "Just hang in there, okay."
        "I have to get home before the sun rises." With every word, my throat ached more and more. "My family, they can't know."
        "Shh, I'll take care of it. Just try to rest."
        I did as he asked, closing my eyes and keeping my hand over my wound to stop the blood flow. Everything hurt, from the previous injuries and the fight with the bandits, I was worn thin. I shouldn't have come out at all tonight. Truth be known, I was relying on my citrus friend too much. He made things easier. With his vision, we cleared ruins in half the time it would take me alone. With so much free time, I was able to sleep more and wake up earlier to sneak breakfast to my little brother. My life had gotten so much better over the past few months. Even just selling all my treasures every month, I had collected more money than I ever had before.
        "Tangerine," I mumbled, feeling him slow his pace. We were close to the city.
        "Yes?" he pushed me up in his arms, turning down a side street.
        "What should I call you? We've spent so much time together, but I never got your name…or told you mine."
        "What an odd time to ask." The wind picked up, sending a shiver through my bones. He balanced me on one knee and wrapped his scarf around me. "I go by many names, but you can call me Childe or Tartaglia."
        "Tangerine and Tartaglia, I was kind of close." I grimaced, a new wave of blood slipping down the front of my shirt. "Call me (Y/n)."
        "(Y/n), it suits you." We entered a beautiful building outside Liyue harbor. "Well, (Y/n), just relax. Help is here." Several masked doctors were around the bed I was laid on. They began to heal me with their vision and traditional medicine so quickly my head began to spin. As they worked, my eyes fought to stay open. All I knew was that it hurt less, and I was suddenly being lulled to sleep.
        No.
        I needed to get home.
        Dad would be upset if I wasn't home.
OOOOOOOOOOOOO
        "(Y/n)." Kiri jammed his finger into my cheek. It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would. "Wake up, dad's still not home."
"Huh?" I rubbed my eyes, and there was no pain to be found. "He's probably asleep on the boat."
"I'm worried." Kiri pulled me from my sheets and into the kitchen. I stopped by the mirror and noticed I was completely healed from the night before. Even my skin looked more hydrated than before.
"Just relax, Kiri." I peered outside, seeing Dad stumble down the dock to the house. "Look, there he is." He had a bottle in hand, and his eyes were sunk in from a sleepless night. Which meant I'd be running the boat alone today.
"I'm glad he's okay." Kiri grabbed a piece of bread before Dad got into the house. "I'm going to go eat real fast."
"Good idea. I'm going to clean up in my room." We parted before Dad could explode on us about his night.
Back in my room, I looked my body over. There wasn't so much as a scar from the fight yesterday. Whoever Childe got to heal me was a professional, which meant a bigger bill. It didn't matter what Childe said about paying for it. I needed to make it up to him. There wasn't much I could do, but I needed to try.
My mask caught my eye. It was tucked under my bed and was just visible from my position at the mirror. Scooping it up from the floor, there was a note attached to the repaired string.
Same spot tonight. I'll be there early this time. Don't worry, I'll handle all the hard stuff. ~Tangerine
I smiled, tucking the note into my pocket and putting my mask into the usual hiding spot in my closet. A clatter in the kitchen let me know Dad has made it inside. My lips went back to a tight line, and I prepared for whatever was about to happen.
OOOOOOOOOOOOO
        Even when I prepared for a fight with my father, it never went over how I imagined. No matter how many times I tried to hit him back, I froze. While it was easy for me to take a whole Hillichurl camp on alone, I faltered when it came to the man who raised me. Well, he provided, and my mother raised me. She raised me till I could fend for myself, and she moved back in with her mother far, far away. And I was left with Kiri to raise by myself.
        Every inch of my body ached. My hands were splinted from trying to fix Kiri's kite after Father tore it to shreds yesterday. That started the fight. Money was always a hot topic and the idea of wasting it on a toy? Preposterous.
        "Fuck him." I kicked a rock at the same ruins from the night before. Someone coughed. "Hmm, hey, Childe. Thanks for yesterday." I noticed him by the entrance. He was in good spirits, swirling his arrows around his fingers. but hie brow was quirked.
        "Ah, Comrade." He bounced on his feet. "We meet again. I see you found your gear." We started to walk into the lion's den. He led the way, bow at the ready, but I was just inches behind him. While I was self-sufficient, I had no business getting in a fight tonight.
        "I found it right away. I didn't know you had a whole team on standby. You must be some big shot, huh?" I nudged his shoulder, shuddering as my bones shifted. Stopping in my track, I took a deep breath and forced myself to keep going.
        "It's best if you don't know." His demeanor shifted, his eyes narrowing on me. "Do you need to see them again? I noticed you're favoring your left side. You were unconscious, so it was hard to know how much healing you needed."
        "Ahh, I just got in a scuffle today." I downplayed it, trying to use my left and right more evenly. "Got my ass handed to me, but I'm not too worried about it. I probably shouldn't have come tonight, but I also can't let you beat me to the treasure."
        "Is that so." He hummed, shooting a Hillichurl that was in the rafters. "Well, I won't be fighting you for it tonight. Whatever we get is all yours."
        "That's not fair, I need to earn it." Several more monsters appeared, and our conversation was strained by the fight. I stayed put while Tangerine took care of the enemies, which didn't sit right with me.  While brooding, a rock bounced off my shoulder, making a tiny puncture wound. Blood dripped, sliding down my arm. In a wave of pure exhaustion and hopelessness, I fell to my knees and held back tears.
        "(Y/n)." Childe finished the mob in front of him and kneeled by me. "Where does it hurt?"
        "Everywhere." I wheezed, curling into myself. "Inside, outside, all of it. I can't fix it. I can't dig my brother out. Even now, I'm just riding on your skills and waiting for this to turn sour. I should just go home."
        "Wait." He grasped for me in the darkroom and grabbed my mask instead. It clamored to the floor, and I kept walking. "(Y/n), please. Hold on."
        "I'm sorry." I faced him under a torch. His eyes didn't widen like I thought they would. Instead, they narrowed, his jaw going tight. "I just don't know what to do anymore. And this isn't working."
        "It's your dad, right." He walked past me towards the entrance. "He did this to you."
        "Childe. It's complicated, it's messy, it's not your problem." I followed after him, unable to meet his stride. It was day two of not finishing the temple, but there wasn't much else I could do. I didn't think he'd care so god damn much. "Please, just finish the temple, and I'll handle him. I just can't be getting a free ride..and I'm in no shape to fight."
        "You can't handle family. There are few people as capable as you, and if someone was going to beat you to this point, you'd have to be soft for them." He stopped, grabbing my hand, pulling me with him. I hobbled behind him, staring at his back. "You need money, right."
        "I had saved enough to leave a few months ago, but father found it. It was gone within a day. I've been working really hard to save up again, but we've had some bad luck." I spewed words before I could think. "I d-didn't waste it. I know you were really nice and let me have some valuables without a fight... and I couldn't hide it well enough."
        "I see. Well then, I'll supply you with work and compensate you for our time together, and I'll let you earn it." We exited the domain and rushed down a familiar path.
        "What?" I tripped on a stone, his hand righting me. Pulling me under his arm, he slowed his pace. "We're competitors. Are you buying me out? I'm lost."
        "The truth is, I found what I needed last week. The item I convinced you to sell to the bank, I bought it." He paused by a river, resting both hands on my shoulder and facing me. "I enjoy your company. You and I are fighting for the same thing. Our family. Let me help you get your brother into a better spot."
        "You bought him the kite, didn't you….and me the hairpin" It all made sense. The extra money I earned from certain sales, the fancy lunches delivered to me when I was docked, and the kite... Childe was trying to help me.
        "Hm, that's not important." He walked to the same cabin we had been to the night before.
        "I've had more opportunities since I met you. I'd be lying if I didn't admit I know who you work for, but I have to say Kiri is the most important person in my life. He deserves a happy childhood. I don't want him to live in fear anymore."
        "Then allow me to keep stepping in. Become my partner, even just for a few months, and you'd be set for life. I'll make sure of it." His eyes were still narrow, but the sparkle had returned for a split second.
        "I can't do that." I looked at the house, wishing for a soft bed and a decent healer. "If you will extend your healer and a bed for a few hours. That would be wonderful. After that, I'll find a way to repay you, and we can go our separate ways."
        "What?" he watched me walk away. I glanced back to see the confusion on his face. He had just offered me a way out, and I didn't take it. Even if I wanted to, it wasn't worth giving up my freedom to go and act as I pleased. As much as I loved my brother, he would be okay after I got him to our aunt. I just needed enough money for the journey. And I was close.
        Once inside the cottage, I was healed and sent to the back room to rest. I told them when to wake me, and I drifted off to sleep without much fuss. Though my dreams were a different story, shrouded in hard choices and being seconds too late. Kiri's lifeless body on the floor of our shared home. Our father smoking on the porch, drunk out of his mind. Ready to kill me for 'murdering his precious son.'
        Sitting up with a start, I didn't feel very rested.  Shuffling my shoes on, I said goodbye to the people in the small cabin, and I jogged back to my home. It took some time to find a landmark, but it was easy enough to get there once I saw Wangshu inn.
        Slowing my pace, I reached the front door and hurried inside. It was cleaner than I had left it the day before. It was eerily quiet until I heard a slight moan. Following the sound, I found my father. Both of his arms were twisted in the wrong direction, his face black and blue.
        "Holy shit." I closed the door to my father's room and went to check Kiri. He was fast asleep in his bed, under a sleeping spell...one that I had seen healer in town use before. There was a letter with the way to wake him and a tiny 'sorry' in the corner. Under the note was enough mora to get him to my aunt in Quince village. I didn't know how I was going to pay him back, but now I had to work harder. He had taken the choice from me, and maybe that was for the best.
        Grabbing Kiri, I wrapped him in a scarf and tied him to my back, like when he was a baby. He was my top priority at the moment, and it would be better if he didn't hear or see our father. Once he was secure, I packed the few items he had into another scarf and tied it around my waist. I wanted so badly to go back to sleep, but instead, I left the house as fast as I could.
        Once outside, I walked in the shade and put as much space as I could between my father and me. He would be pissed when he woke and ready to swing his useless limbs until I did something to stop him. Childe did this to me. He was the one who forced my hand to do this. Running with a baby on my back to Liyue harbor to catch a boat for him. I should be mad. I should want to break his nose. But instead, I was relieved. Kiri was going to be okay.
        Hours of walking without rest, I finally found the fairer I had talked to for years. He smiled, seeing me approach with Kiri. "Ah, someone has finally made their mind up. Time to go see Auntie?"
        "It is." I carefully slid Kiri into my arms and waved the herb under his nose to wake him. "Kiri, listen to me. You can go back to sleep on the boat."
        "(Y/n)? Why are we here?" He stood up, rubbing his eyes. "Why are you crying?"
        "I'm happy. You're going to stay with Auntie." I forced a smile, handing the farrier the scarf full of his clothes and a hefty sum of mora. "It's a long journey to Quince Village, but you'll like it there. There are lots of other children and so many pretty flowers. Mom's there too, last I heard." I put some mora into his hand. "You hold on to that and tell Auntie I will come to visit soon."
        "Aren't you coming now?" He hugged me, gripping fistfuls of my shirt.
        "No, I'll come by foot soon. I just have to square some things away and keep working. Okay?" I kissed him and placed him on the boat. There were no boats that ran a normal route to Quince village. It was a very special route and would involve the farrier walking him from a certain point. But it was worth the price to get him there safely. I wasn't able to go that far without falling behind on fish orders.
        Even with the money left, I didn't really need to work for a while. But there was a loose end in this city. And his name was Childe.
 OOOOOOOOOOOOO
        Two months had passed since I sent Kiri to Quince and moved into the Wangshu Inn. I had been running the fishing boat on my own and spending my nights looking for Childe. No matter how many ruins or temples I looked at or through, he was nowhere to be found. It didn't help he always wore a mask while we were together. That fact gave me enough reason to relax during the day. There was no use looking every second of every day.
        But I kept looking at night. While I searched, I did remind myself how capable I was on my own. Traveling with him was easy, but I could still handle almost any monster on my own. I was powerful, in control, and self-reliant…but I missed him. In truth, we hardly knew each other, but I wanted to watch him use his finishing move again or banter about how much to charge for the artifacts or switch places in a fight. How I yearned to awkwardly fire his bow while he took the front lines, putting all his trust in my aim.
        "Hey, there, (Y/n)." A young man hopped off the trail and skipped to the edge of the water. The brim of his sun hat flared up for just a moment. "You got anything good for me today?"
        "Ah, Ajax. Nice to see you." I set down the nets I was organizing. "You're here early today." I steered the boat towards the shore.
        "What can I say? Maybe I just missed you." He waded in the water to his knees and pulled himself up the side with ease.
        "Hey now. I just sell you fish; there's no reason to miss me." I laughed, offering him my water pouch. He took a quick swig, handing it back to me. He paused, grabbing my hand.
        "What happened?" His brows furred, reaching into the pouch on his hip.
        "Oh, just those pesky Hillichurls playing with fire. It's just a slight burn." His grip was so firm, I didn't dare to move. Pulling a canister out, he popped the lid, setting it on the edge of the boat. He dipped some salve on his fingers and ran it over the wound.
        "You need to be more careful. Didn't anyone tell you it's dangerous to go into ruins alone?" He chastised me, but his tone stayed light.
        "It's not a big deal. You should see what I can do. Why with a flick of the wrist, I can take down three monsters with ease. Just as long as they don't sneak up on me." I scratched the back of my neck. "One almost got me, but I caught the club just in time."
        "Where are you going tonight?" he flipped a crate over and sat down. I steered the boat back into deep water. While he was just a customer, he was quickly becoming a friend. The past few months, he's helped me fish in exchange for some fresh cod. It was a massive help since father was busy healing. I needed to use this boat as long as possible before he got better and wanted it back.
        "Huh, here and there." I dropped anchor and started to set my nets. "Truth be told, I was looking for someone. I haven't found him yet, but I know he has to be around still."
        "Oh, what happened?" Ajax set out the nets on the other side of the boat.
        "Well, we had a- I don't really know what it was. But he helped me get out of a tough spot. I feel like I owe him the thing he wanted from me. But I can't do that. So instead, I want to pay him back and become equals again. If we ever were equal." I wrung the water from the bottom of my shirt.
        "I think you were." Ajax tied off the buoy to the net. "From getting to know you the past few months, you really put a lot of pressure on yourself to not accept favors. It's okay to let someone help you. Maybe your friend knew that, and that's why he asked for something in return?"
        "I won't know unless I find him." Whatever longing inside me was left, I pushed it aside. "But I shouldn't talk about things that make me sad. Not when you're here."
        "You can talk to me about anything." His lips pressured into a thin line. "I do want to ask something that might be sensitive. Have you heard from Kiri?"
        "Oh, I forgot to tell you. I got a letter yesterday. He's with our aunt and has already made many new friends. It took too long, but he's finally getting to be a kid." I drove the boat to the next spot, ready to drop more lines. "So it's a happy topic for sure. How's your family?"
        "They're doing perfectly well." He smiled, standing behind me as I steered. "Over there, by the fallen tree. I bet that's a good spot."
        "You think so? Let's try it." Ajax set anchor as I kept the boat in the right spot.
        "Perfect." He went to set out the next net, cautious to avoid the tree's limbs. "I'm sure you know this, but fish love to hide in the sunken trees."
        "Yeah, but the nets also get tangled if the fisher isn't careful." I tied off the buoy at the end of the net, and he took it from my hands.
        "I wonder, is the risk worth the reward?" At this moment, standing so close to him, his hat casting shade over my face, I realized just how tall he was.
        "Depends on how close the fisher can get the nets to the tree. Which is hard to guess without seeing in the deep dark waters. If the fisher is smart or lucky, it's worth the risk, but some things shouldn't be pushed." I stepped back, but he stepped forward.
        "So, do you think I put the net too close?" He smiled, his canines easily visible.
        "We won't know till we pull them in." I tapped his chest, backing up. "Actions are more telling than theories."
        "You're quite philosophical for someone who enjoys the action." He rolled up his sleeves. "It's as if you enjoy my banter."
        "That, I do quite enjoy." We both talked with a careful choice of words. Ajax stepped over a net, but his foot tangled.
        "Oof." He fell, hand clamping down on his signature hat. It stayed in place, but his chin busted against the splintered wood of the floor. "I'm okay."
        "Come here." I pulled the medkit from its cubby and grabbed the salve he used on me from the banister. "You're gushing blood."
        "I am?" he touched his face then looked at his red fingers. "Shoot. That wasn't very graceful of me."
        "Hey, I've tripped there plenty of times. It's just cursed." I poured fresh water over the wound and saw it wasn't deep. "But you're in luck, it's not going to need stitches today. A little cream, and you'll be all set. But first, to stop the bleeding." I pressed a clean cloth to his chin and grabbed two crates for us to sit on.
        "You don't have to do this." He tinged red, trying to grab the rag from me.
        "I want to." I hummed, grabbing the back of his neck to keep him in place.
        "What will I owe you?" His lips were barely parted, breath still.
        "Why would you owe me anything for this? You're hurting, and I am able to help. So I'm going to do that, no string attached." I nodded, suddenly getting at what he was saying earlier. "Oh."
        "Oh is right." He smirked before grimacing and resting his face to a softer expression. "When you care about someone, you go out of your way to make their life better. Even if it's a small act."
        "You're right." I dapped at the spot, the blood letting up. "My father, you meet him a few times. He's not always the nicest man, but he always taught me to keep tabs. You don't let anyone jib you of what you're owed, and you don't take nothing for free. He liked to remind me how much I owed him for raising me. How important it was I worked hard to make up for the times I couldn't help out. After a while, I guess it just becomes a mindset." Ajax tensed his whole body, hands digging into his shorts.
        "What kind of parent acts like that?" He spat, grabbing my free hand. "(Y/n), kids aren't supposed to live their lives, making it up to their parents. You didn't choose to be born." He pulled me into his chest. "You didn't deserve that, and I'm sorry."
        "Ajax." I don't know what broke in me, but I cried. Water flew from my eyes, and I cautiously wrapped my arms around his waist.  He gripped me tighter, and for the first time since I was in Childe's arms… I was safe for just a few moments. Nothing could touch me, my walls were down, and it was safe to close my eyes, to feel and to process the changes that needed to take place inside.
 OOOOOOOOOOOOO
        "Just break, damn it." I was sweating bullets; fire blazed and lapped at my skin. It was the first time in a while that I'd run into a pyro abyss mage. This one was particularly cocky, spraying me in fiery embers. It was times like this I wished I had a vision, but no. It was just me and my sharp stick, stabbing at the elemental shield.
        "Foolish human." He snapped his fingers, fiery bird heads circling me.
        "Shut it." I stabbed the ground and vaulted myself over the trap tile, landing on the crumbling bridge. "Ah." It shook under me and started to fall. "Help!" I screamed, the ground under me giving out. I grasped a solid rock before it was too late, but I couldn't pull myself up. "Anybody?" I squealed, kicking my legs, trying to find a foothold. "Hello!!"
        The mage above me giggled, dropping his shield and walking to step on my toes. His shoe hoovered over my fingers, taping them slowly before adding pressure. This was it. I was going to fall to my death or die waiting for help at the bottom.
        The mage went silent, tipping back. An arrow was lodged in its chest, glowing with a familiar symbol. "Childe?" I yelled, unable to look backward. "I- I found you."
        "Old tight, (Y/n)." His voice was more familiar than I remembered. Even after months of searching, I thought I'd forget how he sounded first. "You're going to have to trust me. Do you have wind gliders on?"
        "Nope. Never got around to learning to glide." I swallowed hard, my hands slipping. "Hurry, please."
        "I'm coming." I heard his wings open, and then I felt his body crash into mine. I let go, and together we plummeted to the bottom of the ruins. His wings opened, then shredded right before we hit bottom. It softened our landing, and Childe cushioned my crash even more.
        "Childe? Are you okay?" I crawled off him, noticing the mask he always wore was partly shattered. "Oh my archons, I finally find you again, only to kill you. I'm so sorry." I checked him over, trying to see if his spine was in one piece.
        "I'm fine." He sat up, rubbing his head before turning his blue eyes on me. "You hurt?" He caressed my jaw, rubbing at the dirt on my chin. His eyes then went to my hair, the pin he gave me still in place.
        "No. That was some quick thinking." My arms burned from supporting myself, but the thought had to be put away. There was movement around us in the shadows. "It's not over yet.." I materialized my spear, getting to my feet. "Listen, there's some stuff I want to discuss with you. I have a feeling you only showed up because I was in trouble. But please don't leave again." A monster lunged from the darkness and went for Childe. I blocked the clubbed monster, slicing its throat with precision.
        "We need to get out of here first." He got to his feet, staggering to right his lanky body. I wedged myself under his arm to act as a crutch. "Thanks, Comrade."
        "I believe I owe. No. I just want to thank you for helping me back there and all the other times." I caught myself. There was no reason to indebt myself to him. It was out of admiration, out of friendship, and out of comradery that he helped me. Though breaking my fall was a little extra.
        "Like I'd ever let you fall to your death." He bent down and tapped his head to mine. I smiled, patting his side that my hand was resting on he. He laughed like the first night we met, but that changed.
        An arrow came from above, hitting Childe's mask. What was left of the shell fell away, and I noticed the cut on his chin, then his beautiful blue eyes and dazzling smile. Instead of gawking or saying something regrettable, I took my mask off and covered his face.
        "Well, I know why you clung to your hat, Tangerine. That would have been your dead giveaway. I can't believe I didn't see it sooner." I picked up a rock and chucked it at the archer Hillichurl, and it fell from its vantage point. "I guess I don't need to explain as much as I initially did, huh?"
        "You're taking this better than I expected." He pulled away from me,  manifesting his bow and finishing the monster before it could reload and shot again.
        "I told you a month ago I was looking for you. And you made me wait this long? Honestly, I can't tell who's the coward between us."
        "It was me. I couldn't face you as Childe. That night I made that offer, I thought I was helping you, help yourself. But I was selfish. I just wanted you to stay by my side, despite how dangerous my work is.-"He shot a monster in front of us, sighing. "I just wanted you to accept my help."
        "I understand that, and I also understand why you wanted to stay together. I think we make a great team…and I really needed this time apart to remind myself that I am powerful. I'm not just relying on you, but I'm helping. Our skills are different, and that's how we make it work." I stabbed a monster as it rounded the corner.
        "I couldn't agree more. I think we both needed this break, though I wouldn't say I was very good at staying away." He used his ultimate move, clearing a mob on the stairs. The water fell like stars,  encompassing the enemies in exploding water whirls. It was breathtaking.
        "So, I'll see you tomorrow?" We slowly took the stairs one at a time, the sun coming up and lighting our path. We were close to the exit.
        "We can talk more freely then." He stopped before we reached the top. "(Y/n)."
        "Yes." I cleared my throat, my heart racing in my chest.
        He moved the mask to the side of his head, grasping the bottom of my chin. "Let me just express how much I admire you. Will you allow me to do that?" he leaned down, closing the space between us, spare a few centimeters.
        "You may." We kissed. His hands slid over my hips, up my back, and into my hair. His nose bumped mine, and I giggled, breaking the kiss long enough to compose myself.
        "Come on, it's not nice to laugh." He chuckled, pushing the stray hairs away from my face. "You're so beautiful." He kissed my forehead, once again using me as a crutch to get up the stairs.
        "Thank you Childe. You're a handsome fellow yourself… though, I thought I was going to have to break your heart for a friend of mine. He likes to help me set my nets and seemed a little smitten. But I think you two will get along just fine."
        "Oh, to make a comrade fall for me, twice. What a wonderful feeling."
        "Okay, don't let it get to your head." The tension between us was gone. There was more to discuss, but we had time.
OOOOOOOOOOOOO
        "So Ajax is?"
        "My birth name." We sat on the bank, a picnic of fresh food from the Liyue harbor laid on the blanket under us.
        "Final answer?" I laughed, spilling a little water from my glass onto his lap. "Oops, sorry, Tangerine." I wiped the spot, his hand laying over mine.
        "It's fine. But I would prefer you call me Ajax in public and the other name when we work. As for Tangerine, I'll let it work in every scenario." He rubbed his thumb over my wrist, leaning closer to my ear. "Though I won't be working as much now."
        "Why is that?" I pressed until our heads touched. "If I may be so bold?"
        "Well, you reminded me of something very important." I rested my hand on his chest, feeling his heart rate spike. "Someone I respect didn't sell their soul in order to save their family. While I am in too deep to ever fully leave the Fatui, I've made my stance known." He rubbed his nose to mine. "Somethings are worth more than power and money."
        "I'm glad someone was firm enough to try to carve their own path. But I think that because you sold yourself out, you saved not only your family but mine. If it takes ten years or a hundred to free you from their grasp, then so be it." I kissed his cheek, his nose, then lingered by his lips.
        "Are you inviting me to seal your lips?" Ajax brushed our bottom lips.
        "I am." His hand caressed the back of my head, pulling me closer, our lips melting into a perfect rhythm. Crawling over the food, I spilled my water but kept going until I was in his lap.
        With the leverage from his hips, I hovered over him, taking control of our kiss. My hands tickled his sides and back, making us both giggle. He moved his hands to rest under my thighs, helping me maintain my position over him. To think he'd let me have so much control was surprising.
        Pulling away, he planted his head on my chest, catching his breath. "That was nice, (Y/n)."
        "I keep thinking you're about to call me comrade." I ran my fingers through his hair and massaged his scalp. "But I'm more than that, right?"
        "Very much so." He hummed, sitting upright. "How does romantic partner sound?"
        "I love you add romance, so I don't think it's another business transaction." I nudged his chest, noticing his tense brow. "I'd like that a lot, Ajax." Grabbing his hand, I kissed his knuckles. "Now, the foods getting cold. If we are going to fish the rest of the day, I need you to stay strong."
        "You give me the feeling that I'm going to be doing most of the hard work." He let me feed him, lips slipping off the chopstick.
        "It's a right of passage. When you join the crew, you take on the hard jobs. From today on, you're a fisherman. I know you are a pro at ice fishing, but there are still things to be learned about my trade."
        "And I'm ready to learn them." He picked up a piece of meat and popped it in my mouth. "Hey, (Y/n). Did that net tangle in the tree? The one we sat a few weeks ago."
        "No, it came out clean and full of fish. You picked the perfect spot." I wiped the sauce from my lips.
        "I knew it." He grinned, pouring himself a new glass of water. "I won't always be right, but I'm glad it worked out. I have to admit, I was worried I made life harder on you."
        "In the end, you've made things easier. Even if it didn't feel that way at the time." I sat my plate down and laid on my back. The fluffy clouds slowly rolled by, slightly changing shapes. "I'm happy I meet you."
        "I'm glad I meet you too." He held my hand, laying beside me. "I think we've taught each other some valuable lessons." He kissed my wrist.
        "We did." I moved, laying my head on his chest. "We really did."
Lisa’s Little Plan: Adult Razor x Fem Reader. (Genshin Impact)
Tumblr media
Summary: Lisa has a plan to get (Y/n) and Razor to finally confess to each other. She’s got Razor ready to share his feelings, but will (Y/n) be able to accept them?
Warnings/Content: Fight Scene, Slight Injury, Confession, Fluff, Falling in Love,
Author’s Note:  Hello, please enjoy this fic. I am still alive, and writing. I’ve been grateful for the notes of encouragement and support sent to my inbox. I would reply, but I’ve been hoarding them to look at them every day. Life’s been hard for awhile, but thank you for caring for me. Please enjoy this fluffy fic.
Lisa’s Little Plan
"Is this part of the job description I glazed over?" A blade flew past my head, nicking my cheek.
"Afraid so." Lisa gathered her energy while I focused on the mob before us.
"We need a raise." I held my arms above my head, focusing on the air around me. "Prepare to freeze." Slamming my hand down, a wave of ice pushed the mobs back.
"Nice work, Cutie." Lisa's power started to surge through the air. So it was time for me to get out of the way. "It's time to spark things up."
After the mob of Hillichurls recovered from my ice, they were coming back in for another chance to clobber us. Lisa's rose set off, and the Hillichurls fell one by one. While Lisa dealt with the front line, I went to the archers. Climbing up the small hill overlooking cider lake, I manifested my spear, stabbing through one of the archers. They feel with a quick groan.
"Stay back!" Almost turning, I pressed my nose into someone's back. From the voice and smell, I knew it was…
"Razor?" I gripped his stomach as he was shoved back by a large ax. A Mitachurl was on top of us, trying to get through Razor's claymore.
"Don't let go," Razor grunted, sparking up with electro and sending a shock through the ax and into the Mitachurls' hands.
"Oh, this won't do." Lisa took her time climbing the hill but sent another electro hit to the monster, giving Razor the upper hand.
I let go of Razor and sent a small wave of ice, tipping the enemy's balance. As soon as the monster was overpowered, Razor turned, grabbing just under my rump and picking me up one-handed.  He ran towards the hill Lisa was on, setting me by her feet.
"(Y/n) stays." He sprinted back to the Mitachurl, swinging as it tried to get up.
"There he goes coddling you again." Lisa giggled, backing up the wolfman as he chipped away at the monster's resolve.
"You've trained him to be a mighty warrior, Lisa, but you also trained him to do all the work. That's why he sat me at your feet. If I'm coddled, so are you." I stood up, dusting down my shorts and adjusting my skirt.
"Well, I'd call it being a gentleman. He's a fine young man who knows how to protect the people he values most." Lisa was always trying to hint that Razor had feelings for me. It wasn't uncommon for him and me to spend our free time together or go on missions, but it was all friendly. I wasn't even sure if Razor could harbor those kinds of feelings without being painfully obvious. Lisa had taught him many things over the years, but he never picked up her flirty trait.
"He does that well." Finally, the last monster fell, and Razor trotted back to us. "Let's change the topic, though."
"Oh, so you do realize what I was hinting at." Lisa smoothed my hair. "Then you'll understand what I'm about to do next."
"What?" I grabbed her dress, but she just smiled.
"Oh, Razor dear." She called to him just before he reached the slight incline. "I have to go report this incident to Jean. Could you look after (Y/n)?"
"Yes, Lisa." He scrambled up the hill, b lining for me.
"Don'- Lisa." She teleported a decent distance from where I was.
"You'll thank me one day." She waved before teleporting again. There was a reason she was the greatest witch to grace her alma mater's halls. The fact she wasn't even out of breath right now was proof she was scary powerful.
"(Y/n) hurt." He rubbed his hands against his pants, then touched my face. I winced, his fingers pushing my skin back into place. "Stupid monsters."
"It's not that bad, right?" I couldn't see myself, but it felt like a decent injury when he moved it around.
"Razor will fix it." He pushed down on my shoulder, and I sat on the earth below. "Wolfhook save?"
"Salve will be great for this." Razor had improved his language skills. I didn't like to correct him, though he had asked me to. So instead, I'd just say the right word without making a big deal.
"Yes, wolfhook salve." He pulled some from the pouch on his side and carefully applied it to my cheek. "There, now Razor will take (Y/n) to church."
"We don't have to go to the church." My eyes drooped, leaning back into the grass. The adrenaline was wearing off after the fight. Lisa and I often took naps at work and had tea parties. While she was always ready for a fight, I wasn't. It wasn't uncommon for us to run into trouble during our strolls to find lost books, but I couldn't pace myself like a dedicated fighter. I used up all my energy in the fight, and I was ready to rest. "I don't have the strength right now. You can go back to what you were doing before."
"If (Y/n) has no strength, what happens when monsters come back?" He shifted, sitting behind me. "I'll keep watch while you rest."
"I'll be fine. I don't want you to get bored." I reasoned with him but scooted back until my head was in his lap.
"See, this is much better." He took off his vest, draping it around my shoulders.
"Thank you, Razor, for watching my back earlier. What were you doing in the area?" I knew I wouldn't stay awake much longer.
"Hunting." He played with my hair, smiling down at me. "I could hear you and Lisa. So I came to help." His words were slower than usual. It was part of the reason I felt terrible staying alone with him. He always tried so hard to speak like we did. There was no need. I understood him perfectly well.
"It's a good thing you were close. I would have an ax to the spine otherwise." He pulled me higher into his lap and squeezed me with his legs.
"I don't want that to happen to (Y/n)." He sucked in his bottom lip and looked away.
"Well, it could happen one day, but because of Razor, it didn't." I sat up, sitting in his lap and resting my head in the crook of his neck. "For now, I'm right here. Everything is okay." He wrapped his arms around my waist and hugged me with a gentle touch.
"Right here." He nodded, kissing my forehead before getting comfy again. "It is safe, right here."
"It Is." I yawed, feeling his skin tense as my breath tickled him. Finally, sleep took over, and I gave in.
I didn't wake for a bit. The sensation of being carried did stir me slightly, but not enough to make me open my eyes. Razor was whispering kind words to me as he walked, reminding me how powerful I was, how pretty and smart I was. Truly, he was too pure for the world we shared. But he made me happy to know him. While he filled my head, I went in and out of deep sleep. When I finally opened my eyes, I was in my cabin.
"Razor?" I whispered, looking for the silver-haired man. "Did you leave?"
"I'm here." He popped in from the door leading to the hall. "You're awake."
"Thank you for looking after me." I wiped my face, noticing my cut was gone. "Did you take me to Barbra?"
"Yes." He smiled, coming to my bedside and handing me the glass of water that was sitting there. "She said you were dehydrontored."
"Dehydrated?" I offered, pinching my skin to see it slowly go back into place. "I didn't even notice. It was a hot day, so I'm not surprised."
"Water." He pushed it to my lips, and I laughed, drinking half of the cup before he was satisfied. "Good job…cutie."
Oh. Snap.
"Razor, did you just call me cutie?" My face grew hot, my heart racing in my chest.
"You are cute. And I like you a lot." He nodded to himself. "I want to be; how did Lisa say it? Oh, yea. I want to be your lover."
….
…..
……
"You like me." I never wanted to think that Razor was just repeating something, or he didn't understand what he was saying. But I wanted to be sure. "You want to be closer to me? And huh, I can't say it." I hid my head under the cover.
"(Y/n), don't like Razor?" He sat on the bed, placing a hand on my shoulder, overtop the sheet.
"No, I do like you. I like you a lot." I removed the cover. "I just want to make sure I understand, and Lisa hasn't confused you."
"Did I say it wrong again?" He frowned, eyes falling to the space between us.
I closed the gap and grabbed his hands. "No, you said it right…I just don't understand." I paused, trying to backtrack out of the mess I made. "I know. Do you want to be my lover to stay with me, and kiss me and make our own family? Or do you want to-huh...do something else without the close part?"
"I want to be your lupical." He pulled our hands to his mouth. "I want to kiss (Y/n)." He pressed his lips to my knuckles. "I want to make you happy and protect you."
"Razor, that makes me very happy to hear." I swallowed my disbelief. He knew what he wanted, and I was the one with hesitations. "I want to make you happy too. I will be your lover or partner."
"Bennett is my partner. You are my lover." He corrects me, cupping both sides of my face. "May I kiss you, Cutie?"
"So quick?" I laid my hands on his tense shoulders. "Relax first, and we can kiss. Just like that, ease forward and tilt your head. Very nice. Now we, hm." He was so soft, his lips tapping mine, before latching as one. His hand slid from my face to my side, and he pulled me closer to his body. As I started to get lightheaded, we stopped, staying inches apart.
"How did I do?" He rubbed his thumb over my lips.
"Very good." My voice skipped as I spoke, trying to think clearly. "I really liked it. Did you?"
"I liked it very much." I hugged him, wrapping my arms around his waist. "Now that we are lovers…you should stay the night. It's pretty late. So, it'd be nice to sleep next to each other."
"Like a pack." He nodded, pushing me away and climbing into my bed. He kicked off his shoes and got under the covers. "Let's rest."
"I just woke- you know what. Let's go for it." I laid back and snuggled into his chest. "Night Razor."
"Good night (Y/n)." He kissed me again, resting our forehead together.
In the morning, I would give Lisa my thanks. She might have unconventional methods, but she knew how to make things happen. While I was still nervous, I was sure of one thing. Razor liked me, and I liked him. Everything else would fall in line.
Let’s Slip Away: Diluc x Fem Reader: Childhood Best Friend Au
Tumblr media
Summary: You and Diluc slip away from the annual Dawn Winery Ball and confess. Reader then deals with some anxiety about the relationship and Diluc soothes them.
Tags:
Lots of fluff, Creepus is a wonderful person, Diluc is so smooth, dancing under the moonlight, long fit.
Diluc x Reader
Lets Slip Away
The annual Dawn Winery Masquerade Ball, the biggest ball this side of Mondstat, or it used to be. Thankfully, Diluc had successfully scaled the ball down in size a little more with each passing year. Still, it didn't make much of a difference with the ballroom still being packed tight. No matter how the guest list shrunk, people found a way to take up the same amount of space as before. There's nothing I loved more than a dance, but it was the people I couldn't stand. Everyone liked to pretend they were an evil aristocrat once their identity was concealed. A fancy dress, a decorative mask, and a new hairstyle, and everyone felt invincible. It was the same thing every year; they'd order the staff around, drink till they lost control, and leave the manor a mess. It was deplorable.
After watching a woman toss a glass on one of the maids, I lost my cool. I may or may not have tossed my grape juice on the women in retribution. The maid couldn't do it, so I had to use my position as "Master" Diluc's best friend to get away with it. What I didn't expect was for the lady's husband to toss not just the wine but the whole glass at my face. While the glass didn't bust when the base hit my head, it did leave a notable bruise, and the wine soaked through my hair, mask, and dress.
Elzer stepped in immediately to settle the issue, and instead of sticking around to get a lecture, I slipped into the garden. Hiding between several grapevines. I listened to the music pour from the house above and pouted. If I had played my cards right tonight, I would have been dancing in an empty corner with Turner or maybe even Diluc if he was free. He always saved the last dance for me. When the party started to clear a little, we'd stay in my favorite corner and have a quick dance while he whispered about he'll find a way to have the event canceled next year. But no, I was being eaten by mosquitos fighting off a headache.
Holding my mask between my hands, the once white fabric had stained dark red. Even my cream dress was littered with splotches that wrecked of dandelion wine. Sucking in my lower lip, I held back a sudden wave of sadness. It settled into my bones and swept through my limbs in a jitter. Why was I so sad? I avenged the maid and did the right thing… but my chest ached.   Curling around myself, I tucked my head between my lap. There was a time and place for crying, and a party wasn't one. Yet, there I was, sobbing into the fancy gown Diluc had hand made for me. Of course, he wouldn't be mad at me for what happened, but the guilt was eating me alive. I had ruined the evening for myself and made things harder on my friend. "There you are. I've been looking all over-. Hey, Elzer told me what happened, but he didn't mention a welt. How badly are you hurt?" Diluc pushed through the vines faster and hopped over the last row. He knelt beside me and carefully lifted my chin so he could see my face. "I'm just being a baby." I leaned back, the moonlight catching my skin. He ran his thumb over the knot on my forehead, and he clenched his teeth. "Damn bastard." He looked back at the mansion. "He might be wearing a mask, but there's only one person in Mondstat with monogram shoe buckles." "What?" I laughed; he was so serious, but the idea of a monogram shoe buckle had me drying up my tears. "Who pays for that kind of thing?" "Mr. Barker." Diluc wiped under my eyes. "Are you hurt anywhere besides your head?" "Besides the guilt of running the dress you got me and making the party harder for you to manage, I'm fine." I let it out. There was no use in pretending it wasn't bothering me. I had learned a lot about Diluc in our years of being together. While he was a very perceptive man when it came to solving crimes and putting things together, he didn't have the same skill for guessing how I felt. He's known something was wrong before, but he'd just find ways to blame himself if I didn't tell him. "I'll have you another dress made, and those Barkers aren't your fault. Ms. Barker started it, and I ended it. There's always a little drama at these events." He twirled my hair around his finger. "I'm sorry I wasn't there to stop it entirely." "Don't go blaming yourself now." I scooted so close; I was almost in his lap. "Let's just focus on the music or the sky. I know you'll have to go back in soon, so let's just relax for a moment." "Hmm, I can hear it from here. It's nice." A soft number started to play, and people passing by the window cast shadows into the courtyard. He leaned his head against mine. Minutes passed by, and the song changed, both of us just settling our nerves. "So, I guess we won't have the last dance together this year." I hummed, the thought burning at the back of my mind. "I can't go back in there like this." I forced myself to laugh, trying to get it off my chest without sounding too sad. "We don't have to go back in. Elzer can handle the end of the night speech for me, like every year." Diluc stood, reaching his hand out to me. "Milady, may I have this dance?" "Diluc…of course, you may." I pushed my insecurities down and gripped his rough hand. Being wealthy, Diluc had been trained in many different types of formal ballroom dances. When he was in the zone, there was no one but Kaeya who could match his prowess and aura. But I wasn't blessed with the same background. I was just the daughter of the maid, and while my mother was paid well, there wasn't enough money to pay for a dance instructor. However, Diluc taught me everything he knew. We use to spend hours after his class, practicing and gliding around the living room. After some time, I even got to join the classes as Diluc and Kaeya's partner. Creepus convinced my mother it was just good practice for the boys, but looking back, he just wanted me to get that experience as well. "You okay?" Diluc gently gripped my waist as I spun back into his arms. "Yes, I was just thinking about when you taught me how to dance." I closed the gap between us and started moving with the song. Diluc took charge after a few more movements, and I gave up trying to lead. It was always a fun game for us to try to take charge, but I normally gave in fairly fast. Every now and then, he'd let me lead, but I often stepped on his toes when I did.   The ground wasn't level as a dance floor, so it was easier to just follow Diluc. Since he took the first step, he was able to find the best footholds. When we did hit a small hump, we'd steady each other and share a small smile. It wasn't a seamless performance like when we were on solid ground, but it was fun. It also gave us a reason to cling tighter to each other. His broad chest was always so warm; there was nothing more pleasant than laying my head there and closing my eyes as we swayed under the moon. "That was always so much fun." Diluc spun me out, then back into his arms. "Father use to watch us practice, he never told me directly, but Elzer said it was one of his favorite memories." Diluc pressed his lips into a line, eyes turning back to the manor. "He always loved this event, but I can't help but hate it." "I'm not a fan of the crowds or the entitled guests. But I do enjoy dancing with you." I laid my head on his shoulder, bringing him back to the present. "It seems we only dance when this event rolls around. And I can't help but wish for more moments like this. So, while I understand your distaste, I do think Creepus had the right idea. This is a chance for all of us to come together do something we all loved…it just is hard to enjoy when other people are so entitled." "I feel the same way. Dancing with you, it's always my favorite part of the ball." We swayed back and forth in a tight embrace, the music fading out and our footwork growing sloppy. "There's been so much to do recently. I'm afraid I've neglected you." "Mother told me that as friends get older, drifting apart is normal… I'm just glad you're still here with me. No matter how short that time is." He hugged me tighter, inhaling a sharp breath. "Maybe friends do, but my feelings for you are much stronger than just friends." I gasped before I could stop myself. Crickets chirped in the distance, and the lighting bugs emerged just as the party started to close. This moment was very much real…but did he really just confess? "You want to be with me?" I slowly looked up, grabbing the sides of his suit. "As more than friends?" "I do." He pulled back a little, glancing at the ground. "How do you feel? Could you ever love me as more than a friend? I know it's selfish to ask that of you, given the dangers that follow my line of duty. But I can't deny myself any longer." "My heart is going to jump out of my chest, Luc." Grasping his hand, I pressed it to my wrist. He smiled, rubbing his thumb over my pulse. "I want to be yours, and you mine. To be honest, I've had feelings for you for a while now. I just thought you didn't return them." Heat climbed up my face, and I looked away to hide it. While his confession was so smooth, mine was energetic and messy. Why couldn't I keep it calm? "That settles it then." He stepped closer, our eyes locking and fingers lacing. "We'll be together from here on out." A warm breeze went by, picking up the bottom of my ruined skirt. "Next time there's a dance, you won't have to leave my side, nor I yours. There will be no flying wine glasses or uncouth guests. We can dance the night away without worry or interruption." "I don't know if a party could ever go that smoothly." I pushed his hair back and cupped his face. "Unless we barred over half the guest list." "If you don't think I'd do that, then you underestimate how far I'll go to make you happy." His checks tined red, barely illuminated by the moon. "Oh, I don't doubt you, Master Diluc. But I'm not hard to please, we could dance in the living room like we use to, and I'd be the happiest person alive." I tugged him closer, wrapping my arms around his hips, and swaying to an imaginary beat. "It's not often you add my title before my name." He hummed, letting me lead us to the song in my head. "Master Diluc, whatever do you mean?" I batted my eyelashes and snickered. "I didn't realize I added it. Maybe it's where I've spent most of the night talking about you, and not to you that I've forgotten how to be relaxed. There was many a guest who wanted to pry about your love life." "Well, you have a definitive answer now, Lady Amber." He kissed the top of my head, stopping for a moment. His body radiated a wave of heat, and he nodded to himself. "It's starting to get cold. We should head inside before you catch a cold. I'm sure everyone's left by now." "I don't want this moment to end." I clung to his shirt, the warmth he emitted making my eyelids grow heavy. Whenever he allowed me to use him as a personal heater, I took the chance. But this was the first time I didn't worry about it being the last.   "We have many more moments like this ahead of us." He supported me as we walked towards the mansion, looping his arm around my waist. "Let's go clean up, and turn in for the night. Tomorrow we can have breakfast and go for a ride along the river. How does that sound?" "It sounds so nice." Once we were back in the house, Elzer met us in the doorway. "Where have you been, Master Diluc?" He rubbed the bridge of his nose and glanced at me. "And you, Ms. Amber, what were you thinking tossing your drink? You completely ruined the night. I could hardly contain the guests" Diluc wrapped his arm around my shoulder, and Elzer's tone sifted from miffed to muted. "Elzer, the issue was with the guests, not Amber." He steered me towards the stairs, nudging me along. "Go on to bed. I'll be up there in a moment. I have some business to finish up." Diluc walked towards his office, motioning for Elzer to follow him. Elzer shot me a perplexed look and tried to mouth out, 'be more careful' before hurrying after Diluc. I whisper back, "okay," before taking the stairs two at a time before stopping. I wasn't going to get in trouble, so I might as well show I'm not ashamed. "Goodnight Elzer," I called after the older man, with as "pleasant" of a tone as I could muster. Parties almost always stressed him more than Diluc, but since Elzer was an employee, he couldn't run and hide like Luc. Truth be known, if Diluc hadn't been there, I would have gotten a long lecture on the importance of keeping good relations with potential business partners. But that's only because Elzer couldn't let his frustrations out on anyone else. I was always there to listen and receive his distain when things went wrong. It wasn't my favorite pastime, but it did help him feel better. It was surprising he was so stressed, he actually chastised me in front of Diluc. It must have been a tough night even after I left. I usually was lectured in private, but he really was ready to let me have it.   Once in the guest room, I disrobed. The heavy gown took several minutes to untie and loosen the laces, but once it was done, my lungs could fully expand. My ribs ached, so I rubbed circles on my sides till the initial throb dulled. The night had gone better than I ever planned, and now it was over. Yet, there was a worse throb in my chest than the pain of a corset. Diluc and I were finally together. We removed the ever-lingering question and just confessed. Why did it hurt inside? Was it that the party was hard on everyone else and I was so happy? Or was it something else? Tilling the blue pitcher on the nightstand, water rushed into the ornate basin below. Dipping a rag into the cool water, I began to wash the wine from my face. It had been such a stressful night. Perhaps the empty feeling inside was fear of the unknown. Or fear that Diluc would wake up and change his mind. That he'd send me away for good once he realized he could never be with someone of such low status. Someone who didn't couldn't even keep up public appearance at a ball. Maybe, it would just take me slipping up once when I was wearing a mask? Then he'd send me away from the manor. I finished cleaning up, then tossed the water out the window. Fixing the pitcher and basin back in place, I reached below the nightstand and pulled out my nightgown. Slipping on the flowy gown, I turned down my sheets and got comfortable. This guest room had been mine for as long as I could remember. While I still lived in the cottage by the river with my mother, I spent more nights at the mansion than at home. Diluc and I would rush through his paperwork every night, and I'd help get his gear ready to go protect Mondstat. I was his sidekick in many ways. Spending so much time there at night, it just made sense for me to sleep here too. We were a great team. Plus, the close proximity made things easier and less suspicious… But that wasn't the whole truth. It was more so that my mother had met someone new, and he had moved into our shared home. He was a nice man, a retired Knight of Favonius, but I just couldn't relax around him. He was stern about me not going out after dark, so staying over at the mansion became more and more frequent. Which was better for mom and Mr.Godfrey's partnership. But while I spent more nights away, mom started to believe there was something between Diluc and me, so she was happy to see me leave home. She was going to be overjoyed to hear the news that we confessed. Though, I'm sure she'll say kicking me out was the reason we finally admitted our feelings, which was not the whole truth. Still, I did miss my own bed sometimes. Pressing my back to the headboard, I curled my knees up and rested my head between them. Sucking in a deep breath, small tears slipped past again. There was too much happening. I couldn't think about one thing for too long. So much good just happened. Why? Why was I thinking about the bad? A familiar rasp at the door rang through the room. "Come in." Wiping my eyes, I sat up and pulled the covers up to my neck. "You're crying again." He walked into the candlelight. I could tell he had cleaned up before coming to see me. He was wearing one of his loose puffy shirts and some cotton pants; his hair had been smoothed and pulled into a low ponytail, water dripping from the ends. It didn't matter what he wore. He always looked unbelievably handsome. "Was it Elzer? He knows it's not your fault. He was just worried about our trade deal." "There's just so much to think about. I can't let myself be happy." I rubbed my eyes again. "What if you realize I'm not good enough for you? Or what if my mother's partner treats you poorly because you quit the Knights? Then that couple, what if they stop working with you and it hurts the business because of me? No one is ever going to see me as anything more than a gold digger." My brain let loose, new concerns and problems being added to my mix. "I'm so negative right now, and I know you probably just want to be happy that we feel the same way…but- I'm so sorry. "He pulled back the covers and crawled in with me. Wrapping me in his arms, the blanket went over our heads, and Diluc settled down. "There you go, having to comfort me like a child." I rested my hand on his shoulder. "You sure you could learn to love a mess like me?" "I already love you." He rubbed patterns on my back, pressing a kiss to the lump on my forehead. "You've been like this since we were children, plagued with worries beyond your control. I know that after you let it out, you always feel better. And that the minute you go silent, that's when I really need to do some digging." He paused drawing on my back and instead moved to play with my hair. "We'll figure it all out as we go, all the what's and if's. We'll take them one at a time, starting with the one I have control over." "Woah." He flipped me over, hovering inches from my face. He pinned me between his legs, the v neck of his shirt hanging open so I could see the red hairs on his chest. "You could be from the richest family in Mondstat or poorest, and I'd still want to be with you." He kissed me, pressing down just until our bodies touched. "I'd go as far as to say, if you were a member of the Fatui, I'd still be smitten. I would certainly find a way to break your ties with them, but I couldn't stop loving you. So, you are more than enough for me, and if anyone makes you feel differently, then I will handle it." "That's a bold statement coming from you." I ran my fingers through his ponytail as it hung over his shoulder. "I can't argue with that logic, but I promise I'm not a member of the Fatui." I wrapped my arms around his waist, encouraging him to squish me with his full weight. "I'm going to crush you." He fought against me, but I only nuzzled his neck, blowing raspberries. "Amber, hey." "I know. But I'd also like to point out how improper it is for you to be in my room at this hour. So, I'd like to be crushed as repayment… please." I let go of one side of his hip and wiped my eyes. "You are right. It is improper." He lowered himself a little more but didn't fully lay on me. "A true gentlemen would never stay this late with a proper young lady. However, there is something else I want that's a little scandalous." "What could that be?" I gasped, my lungs not fully expanding as his weight sunk down on my chest. He noticed as he sat up to his previous position. "A kiss?" He moved his elbow up and cupped my face. His eyes glimmered with the flame that was lighting up the room. His touch was gentle but so firm I couldn't imagine being in another person's embrace. At that moment, there were only two people in the world, and I was madly in love with one of them.   "That sounds quite proper to me. You should always kiss your lover goodnight." I stuttered a little, unable to keep up the playful banter as I looked at his lips. The smile that spread on his face made the butterflies in my stomach flutter. Archons, I was smitten.   His thumb brushed my lower lip before he brought his mouth down for a chaste kiss. Testing the waters, he hovered millimeters above me, and I stole his lips in a deeper kiss. Having a lack of experience in the field, I matched the pattern he set. Just like dancing, I tried to take the lead and failed miserably. So I did was I was best at, adding the fun flourishes. I curled my fingers into his hair and snaked my hand up his shirt and across his chest. He matched my movements, caressing my face and tilting my head up to deepen the kiss. Every star in the sky dulled in comparison to the explosion of light that spread over my body. He shifted back, catching his breath. he smoothed my hair and peppered, kissing around my face before setting back. "Thank you." He laced our fingers together, pulling my hand to his mouth and kissing my knuckles.     "Will you stay tonight?" I took our intertwined hands and kissed his knuckles in return. "I don't want you to leave just yet." "As you wish." He got behind me, adjusting the covers we had tossed around earlier. "Now, let's get some sleep. We have a big day tomorrow." I laid my head on my pillow and scooted back until we were slotted against each other. His hand wrapped around my shoulders in a reassuring squeeze. "I love you." "I love you more." It took a while for all the blood pumping through my body to relax again, but once it did, I fell into a deep and peaceful sleep. Dreams of dancing through the clouds with Diluc filled my head, and I had the best rest of my entire life. Next to the man I dearly loved.
Hey!! I hope ur having a wonderful day!! I really loved ur Haikyuu camping story and I’m thinking of starting ur Shinso fic!! I’m nervous tho because it’s not finished (that in itself isn’t scary lol) and I don’t want to get super invested and then have the fic end in kids/or talks of kids/ or allusions to pregnancy,, eep,, obvi I’m not telling u what to write I was just wondering if you think you might take it in that direction??? Idk finding fics that aren’t tagged with that stuff or starting something only to find out later that it ends that way always hurts really bad for some reason 🥲 anyway!! Lmk!! Love you!! Your writing it amazing!!
Hello, hope you are well! Thank you for reading my Camping Series ❤️☺️.
As for Bright as a Diamond, there will be no mentions of having kids or pregnancy! The only family elements is the Aizawa x Mic being adoptive dads to the cast and then Y/n does have a complicated birth family relationship.
I'm honestly not the type of writer who enjoys writing that kind of thing, and if I did for some reason, I would tag it. Everyone has their bread and butter, and mine is cuddles and the "will they, wont they" build up to a confession/relationship.
I haven't updated that fic in awhile, but I will be finishing it at some point this year. I'm about to start my last semester of graduate school, so things have been hectic with prepping for exit papers, plus my usual finals. 😭
(Also, I try to tag the most common triggers and themes I can think of, but I am human. So, if you ever are unsure, feel free to reach out to me 💜)
Sometimes, there are moments where you just want to blow up your own life. Like quit school four months before graduation, move towns or change your name.
Because the moment we reach the crossroads, we can't go back without undoing all the work.
And we've worked so hard ...but what if it's someone else's life we are living? What if we are the puppet on someone else's hand. Then what? Give up the warmpth of the hand and try to fill ourselves up again?
It's terrifying.
But the thought, that we could just...start over. It would be so nice.
Instead, it is only a passing thought.
Burnt Chocolate Kisses
“Samu.” I sat my box down and rushed to meet him at the door. Rice was scattered across his hair and chest, not to mention there was a small patch on his cheek. His eyes were barely open, movements slow, as he took off his shoes. “I told you to let me help at the store today.”         “Be glad you didn’t.” He stepped up from the genkan and slumped into my arms. “One couple tossed their food at the cashier. Instinct kicked it, and I spiked it across the store. I’m going to be collecting those free onigiri vouchers for the next three months.”         “Valentine’s day is about being with your loved ones and sharing a romantic evening. Yet, there’s always an idiot or two who like to ruin the day for everyone. I’m sorry it was hell today.” Rocking him lightly, we slowly edged our way to the kitchen. Part of the reason I stayed home today was so I could cook him a magical dinner. But my day hadn’t gone to plan either.         “Why do I smell smoke?” Finding some energy, he moved past me and ran to the oven. Opening the door, the last billows of smoke rose up and out. “(Y/n); what happened? Are you okay?” Grabbing a towel, he fanned the air away from the smoke detector and glanced at my hands. There were few people in this world who’d be more interested in my well being than their stove in shambles.         “No burns this time.” I laughed, gritting my teeth. The air was thick, my throat closing up. “I guess I did surprise you; there’s just nothing to eat…” Inside the oven was a charred goose. We had watched someone cook a goose on Master Chef, and we had wanted to try it for a few months. He held his forehead and turned his back to me, getting the bird into the trash. “So, um, are you going to cook my goose over this?” My voice cracked, but I couldn’t stop the joke from slipping out.
Koutaro Bokuto x Fem Reader: Eligible Bachelor
Tumblr media
 Summary: Some of the MSBY team are scheduled at a charity event and are auctioned off for dates, you being the manager go with them. The team is well aware of your crush on Bokuto and put a plan in motion. What’s the worst that can happen.
 Words: 5.1K
 Warnings: Angst if squint, happy ending, MSBY 4 being sold as dates for Charity.
 Authors Note: Hello! This is my first time posting a fic so go easy on me, I hope you all enjoy it and get a good laugh out of it like I did! This is part of a collab with @ambershaydeoffical! Please support all the talented writes who participated.
“Alrighty boys are you ready to go on in?” You said staring at the four well dressed men  behind you.
 “No, and I want to go home.” Sakusa adjusted his black facemask. He wasn’t keen on coming to this event whatsoever.
 “Sakusa I know, but I really need you! Besides what would you be doing anyway? It’s Valentine’s day and you’re as single as single gets. Live a little. Maybe you will find your Mrs.Clean tonight! Ya never know!” You said as he rolled his eyes and scoffed.
 “Omi-Omi don’t be that way. Our lovely manager here worked hard to get us this opportunity, and it’s benefiting a charity you scrooge.” Atsumu smacked Sakusa’s back.”I think your just upset because you know all the ladies are going to bid on me.” The blond setter smirked at the very pissed Sakusa who just glared at him.
 “NOoO It’s going to be me who gets all the bids. I still have my tan from Brazil and I’m alot cooler than all of you.” Hinata piped up, proudly adjusting his tie that had little volleyballs on it.
 “Well if we don’t get our asses in that building, aint none of y’all getting any bids, besides I’m freezing to death,” You said rubbing your arms. The dress you wore done little to protect you from the cold night.
 “Take this please, I don’t want to freeze to death. I like you warm and alive.” Bokuto, who’s been oddly quiet, spoke up wrapping his grey tux jacket around your shoulders leaving him in his blue button up. You could smell his cologne on the jacket, you could drown in this and wouldn’t complain. Your cheeks ran hot and you managed to let out a “thank you” through chattering teeth.
 “Okay let’s get going.” You said wrapping the jacket tighter around you as the boys followed you like baby ducks. Bokuto walked up beside you while the two boys bickered over who would have the most bids in the back, Sakusa wanted no part in it and stayed to himself. You look at Bokuto  who seemed nervous. You decided to hype him up a bit before he went into emo mode. “Bokuto you are going to have some gorgeous high profile women coming after you tonight, I’m jealous of them.” You didn’t lie, you had the biggest crush on Bo, ever since you took the job as the MSBY manager. You never have a frown on your face next to him- until now. You knew he’d have a woman, that’s not you, by his side tonight. You’d bid on him until your bank went in the negative but you don’t get paid like the women at this event do.
 “You wait and see, I’ll have the most beautiful one by time the night is out.” Bokuto said, smiling at you. You felt a pang of sadness creep on you, if he only knew.
 The warm air of the ballroom felt nice against your cool body. You gave Bokuto his jacket back, you secretly wished you could keep it forever. You took in your surroundings, the ball room was filled with women in designer dresses and you could see the small stage in the middle of the room.
 “Guys I have to find the event coordinator and see what time you guys need to get on stage. Please be on your best behavior, there are cameras everywhere. Atsumu keep the drinking to a minimum, Shoyo for the love of God go to the bathroom now, Omi keep these fools in line and you better be nice to people and last but never the least Bokuto, If you dance please be careful, I don’t want to take you to the ER again because you hit the Cha cha slide too hard. And with that I’m out. I’m counting on you guys.” You said giving them a thumbs up as you got lost into the sea of people to hunt the event coordinator.
~
 “Thank you so much Y/N! Everyone is looking forward to the auction. We have some models and a couple pop stars who will be in the line up as well as a few volunteers . I want your boys to go at the end, as they say ‘always save the best for last’.” The coordinator spoke over the bustling crowd. She went over the rules and where they needed to go and what time to line up. You soaked in all the information the bubbly coordinator was giving you. “I have to go let the rest of the people know the game plan. Please have your guys here and lined up in half an hour. Thank you again!” And with that she disappeared into the crowd. Now here came the hard part.
You scanned the large ballroom to find your heathens. Sakusa would be the easiest to find because he is most likely on one of the four corners in the building. Hinata was most likely with Bokuto, and Atsumu was a wild card, he could be at the bar, maybe even on the dance floor trying to impress girls with his dance moves(That suck by the way). You recall the time you found him passed out in a bush drunk off ass at a gala last year. You make up a game plan, you would get Bo and Hinata first, then find a hopefully sober Tsumu and lastly get Sakusa (you figured it best not to drag him around the ballroom) You spot Bokuto’s tall figure next to a snack bar, and as you figured Hinata was with him. They were both stuffing their mouths with meat kebabs and other foods like wild animals, they sure love to eat you thought.
 “Bokuto,Hinata, they are getting ready to line everyone up, wait for me over there.” You said pointing towards an area that was not  too terribly crowded.
 “HEY HEY HEY Y/N try one of these things, they are so freakin good.” He shoved a cake pop in front of your face. You took it from the gray haired boy.
 “Thank you Bo, but we really need to go.” You took a bite from the cake pop. “Wow that is really good.” You said finishing it in one bite. You heard some snickers from a group of girls, they made a smug comment about you eating it all at once. You normally would throw hands but you had an image to uphold. You shouldn’t let it bother you but it did.
 “Hey don’t let that bother you, besides I like a girl that can eat.” Bokuto said, patting your head. He is literally the human version of sunshine.
 “Thanks Bo. But really we need to get the move on, I still have to hunt Tsumu down. Can you and Hinata wait for me over there.” You said pointing to the area again.
 “Roger that.” They said unison.
 “I’ll be right back.” You said going back into the crowd. You checked the dancefloor first and he wasn’t there(You were relieved he was not.). You made your way to the bar and found him surrounded by women who were mesmerized by his thick accent. You waved him down and he nodded and turned his attention back to the group he had attracted.
 “It looks like It’s time fer’ me to go, make sure you all bid for me. I’ll be a waitin’” He said getting up and following you. The women he had been entertaining giggled as he walked away.
 “Look at you being a player. I didn’t expect that from a man who yells at girls when they cheer for him.” You leaned into him so he could hear you over the crowd.
 “I’m just tryin’ to raise some money, it’s strictly business. My heart belongs to volleyball for the most part.”He said winking at you. He truly is just a fool in love with the sport.
You led Atsumu to the group and went to retrieve poor  Sakusa. You looked around for a few minutes and felt a tug at the back of your shirt. You turn around and see Sakusa towering over you.
 “This is new, I’m used to finding you sulking in a corner.” You said staring into his black eyes.
 “I watched you gather everyone up, I figured I would come on over to make it easier for you.” He began to walk towards the rest of the group.
 “I guess being 6’4 has its perks huh Omi? You’re like a watchtower.” You said looking up at the tall spiker.
 “Yeah, guess so.”He said playing with one of his dark curls.
~~
 “Okay we have everyone, so you guys are going last, I’ll leave who goes first to you guys. Now let’s go get lined up.” You lead them to the stage and let them line up. Atsumu insisted on going first, Hinata would go after him, then Sakusa and lastly Bokuto.
 “You owe me some umeboshi after this.” Sakusa said, taking his mask off and putting it in the pocket of his tux.
 “Sure thing. I’ll even throw in a thing of nice smelling hand sanitizer for the trouble.” You crossed your arms and smirked at him.
 “I’ll hold you to that.” He said, filing behind Hinata.
 You looked at Bokuto who appeared to be a nervous wreck. He had a small layer of sweat on his forehead and his hands were shaking slightly. “Hey it’s going to be okay, I’ll be right here.” You said pulling out your handkerchief and dabbing the sweat off his forehead. “You’re amazing and dare I say you’re the best looking one.” You said making him blush.
 “Ummm HEY.” Atsumu said glaring at you, obviously butt hurt from your comment. Sakusa was unamused and took it upon himself to kick Atsumu. That gave you the opportunity to turn your attention back to the nervous male beside you. Before you could comfort him the loud speaker cut you off.
 “Ladies and gentleman, would you please give your attention to the center stage, the date auction will begin momentarily.” The coordinator announced causing everyone to tense up a bit.
 “Come on guys loosen up a bit, I’m going to be in the front taking pictures for our instagram page. So show off a little! Show them you are proud to be a part of such an awesome volleyball team!” You hyped them up one last team. “With that being said I want a group picture so bring it in guys.” You said pulling the camera and ushering the athletes into the frame. “Say cheese.” Atsumu wrapped his arm around Sakusa who didn’t have the chance to push him off, Bokuto gave Hinata bunny ears. It was a chaotic photo, but It caught their true essence.
 “I want a picture with you before you go Y/N. Pleaseee.” Bokuto gave you puppy dogs eyes and you couldn’t deny him.
 “Sure Bo. Atsumu here.” You handed him the camera and got beside Bokuto. He wrapped an arm around your waist and held you close to him. You could feel his muscles through the tux that fit just a little too good.
 “Aww you look like a cute couple.” Atsumu teased as he brought the camera up to snap a picture. You couldn’t make a comeback as embarrassment washed over you. You looked up at Bokuto who had a blush adorning his handsome face.
 “Y/N I’m going to do something, don’t get mad.” Bokuto said, picking you up bridal style before you could even protest.
 “That’s what I’m talking about!” Atsumu said, snapping more pictures.
 “Bokuto put me down, I’m heavy!” You shriked  gripping onto his tux.
 “No you’re not. I could carry you around all night like this if you wanted me to!” He smiled down at you! You felt your face light up like a Christmas tree. No matter how big or small you were, Bokuto always made you feel like a princess.
 “As much as I’d love you to, we gotta get this ball rolling.” You said as he gently placed you back on your feet. “I’ll be taking that.” You said snatching the camera from Atsumu who was smirking. He seemed to be hiding something from the way he was acting. He is definitely sus you thought. You waved the boys goodbye and made you way to the front of the crowd. You got the camera ready as the spotlight of the stage flickered on.
 “Thank you all for coming out tonight! We hope you are ready to see the heartthrobs we have lined up for you!!” The announcer said setting the tone. “Valentine’s day is all about love and being with one another. So if your single, ladies, pull those yen out and let’s get to business!” The crowd cheered and applauded as the auction began.
You didn’t pay much attention to the men coming on stage, your only worry was the last 4. You scrolled through the camera to see the pictures Atsumu took of you and Bokuto. Bokuto had such a wide smile on his face in the pictures, your smile was just as big, even though your face was full of panic in the one where he effortlessly picked you up. You’re pulled from your day dream when you heard the announcer’s voice.
 “We have some special guests tonight from the MSBY volleyball team! We’ll start first with Miya Atsumu!” The announcer said as Atsumu walked on the stage like he owned it. He flipped his hair and looked at the group of women he serenaded earlier and blew them a kiss. You got lucky and snapped a picture of it, he may be annoying as hell but he knows how to get women. He had about ten women fighting over him, his bids kept going up and up. After a cutthroat battle he was sold for roughly  200,000 yen. He smirked and walked off the stage. You couldn’t help but chuckled to yourself, he’d be one of a kind if he didn’t have a twin.
 “Up next we have Hinata Shoyo!” She said as the tangerine headed boy shly walked on stage. He looked confident for the most part and he thankfully went to the bathroom before this. He had on one of his classic charming but cute smiles. You could hear girls behind you talk about how cute he was. His skin was glowing under the spotlight thanks to the Brazilian sun. His bids went up high, he ended up being sold for 120,000 yen. He waved at the audience and bounced off the stage.
 “Let’s welcome our next bachelor who just so happens to be the tallest one tonight, Sakusa Kiyoomi!” You watched on edge as Sakusa walked out, he didn’t seem nervous but he wasn’t all that interested either, he stood in the middle of the stage like a statue. To make matters worse he wasn’t smiling. You grabbed his attention for a moment and smiled as wide as you could and pointed at your face, you felt like one of the psychotic moms from toddlers and tiaras but you had to do something or he wasn’t going to get any bids. You mouthed the words “Smile please” at him and he finally took the hint. He had an awkward but cute smile on his face finally. You relaxed a little and resumed taking pictures. His bids began to go up and quick. Sakusa looked at the exit of the stage and smirked at someone and turned his attention back to the crowd. You could only guess he was looking at Atsumu who was probably pissed at how high Sakusa’s bids were. Sakusa was sold for a whopping 500,000 yen. You know Tsumu’s ego was damaged beyond repair right now. Sakusa bowed and left the stage.
 “Now let’s end this night right! We have one more contest so let’s welcome Bokuto Koutarou to the stage!” You felt your heart drop and the announcer said his name. You had to watch someone you loved dearly be bid off to some rich girl who would probably steal him away. You tried to knock away negative thoughts but you couldn’t help it. He looked sinfully good when he walked on stage. What nervousness he felt was gone and now it’s nothing but his overwhelming confidence. He carefully watched one specific area of the crowd. You snapped pictures of him (a lot of them being for your personal collection) as he walked around the stage flexing and showing off. His eyes met yours a lot and he seemed to be smirking at you. But his attention always went back to the one area of the crowd. You heard his bids go up, one particular girl was bidding for him like her life depended on having him. Her voice came from the direction he kept starting at. He looked nervous when anyone but her called out a bid. You began to get ate up with pure jealousy, you wish you could take him off the stage and run away with him right then and there. The bids kept going up and up and the girl that kept bidding on him got him for 150,000 yen. He looked ecstatic. He looked at you and smiled before he went off stage. Your heart dropped and you wanted to leave, but you still have work to do.
 “That concludes the auction tonight! If you won you can meet up with your bachelor over here on the left.” The announcer pointed towards the group of men. You made your way to find the guys so you can take more pictures and let them know where you’ll be when they get done.
 “You guys did awesome!” You said running up to them. They gave you a soft smile. You notice Bokuto was MIA. “Umm guys, where is Bo?” They hesitated for a second but your conversation was cut short as the boys dates for the evening came up.
 “Sakusa was it?” A well dressed man walked up to the tall volleyball player. You noticed a small girl clutching his dress shirt. She couldn’t be any older than 8. “This is my daughter, she wanted someone to dance with her but in all honesty I’m trying to make some business deals while I’m here, keep her company for me.” The man patted his shoulder and slipped some extra money in Sakusa’s shirt pocket, leaving him slacked jawed.
  “All the umeboshi your heart desires, a big box of the nice face masks you like, and whatever else you want, just please be nice to this poor girl. She looks sad.” You whispered into Omi’s ear trying to persuade him a little more.
 “I didn’t come here to babysit, but I guess I can.” He said low enough that the girl couldn’t hear. Omi peered down at the small girl, she actually had moles on her face kinda like he does but on the opposite side.
 “Umm hi.” She said looking up at the tall man. She seemed nervous. You nugged Omi in the side to get him to say anything.
 “When was the last time you washed your hands?” He asked the girl and you could have choked him. The girl giggled at his statement.
 “I wash my hands all the time! Look my mom even bought me this!” She pulled out a small key chain with a rabbit on it, attached was a small bottle of hand sanitizer. “Would you like some?” She said opening the cap. Sakusa held his hand as the small girl poured some into his hands and she gave herself some as well.
 “Good.” Sakusa said, pulling his mask from his pocket to put it back on. The little girl grabbed his hand and dragged him to the dance floor. You knew this was way out of his comfort zone, but he was still doing it.
 “Omg your hair is so cute! Can I touch it?” You whipped your head around to see a young bubbly girl talking to Hinata.
 “Umm s—s sure.” He said nervously as the girl ran and hand through his hair. You couldn’t help but laugh a little. The poor baby seemed so embarrassed. The dance floor was filled with couples and the girl dragged Hinata to the dance floor before he could even get her name. You turned to Atsumu who looked like he had seen a ghost.
 “Young man I’m getting my money’s worth tonight so let’s go dance.” An old lady who you thought resemble Baba Yaga from spirited away stood in front of poor Atsumu.
 “Yes ma’am.” He said, forcing a smile.  He looked at you pleasing eyes that screamed “please save me Y/N”. You shook your head at him.
 “Pay attention to me boy, I paid good money for you.” The old lady said whacking Atsumu with the cane she carried.
 “Yes ma’am, sorry ma’am.” He said walking with the old woman to the dance floor. You had to turn your head and laugh, between Sakusa getting stuck babysitting a kid and Atsumu being stuck with a senior citizen after talking at that smack, it was priceless. You guess them ladies Atsumu talked to must’ve liked him that much.
You searched around for Bokuto to make sure he got his date for the night, you were also curious who she was and how pretty she was. You felt that jealousy creep back on you. This was going to be a long night. You finally spot Bokuto talking to a drop dead beautiful girl, she looked familiar but you couldn’t quite place her. She and Bokuto seemed to be having a good time, she was laughing at something he had said. Your heart shattered. You look back up to see Bo making eye contact with you. All you could do was smile and get lost in the crowd before he could see the stray tear falling down your cheek. You needed to get outside for a bit, you felt like you were suffocating. You fought the crowd and finally made your way to the exit. You pushed the metal door open. The cold night felt good against your hot skin. You walked down a path in front of the building and tried to collect yourself.
 “Another year alone and single.” You blurted out to yourself. You find a small bench and decide to sit down for a bit. The night sky brought a sort of comfort to you. The stars twinkled and the moon casted a peaceful light. The cold was getting to you but you were afraid to go back in. You mentally couldn’t handle it.
 “PARKOUR.” You felt your soul leave your body as you saw a shadow jump over the bench you were sitting on. You flinched back ready to fight off the attacker only to be met with Bokuto standing in front.
 “BO you scared me to death!” You said inhaling a deep breath and clutching your chest.
 “I’m sorry my parkour was so awesome it scared you.” He said, taking his jacket off and draping it yet again around your cold body. Your nose flooded again with the scent of his cologne. It’s calmed you down in a bittersweet way. “But angel what are you doing out here, you’ll get sick if you’re not careful.” He kneeled down a bit and pulled the jacket around your cold body more.
 “I could ask you the same things Mr. Parkour, you have a beautiful woman in there waiting on you, so stop wasting your time on me.” You said trying to hold it together.
 “Well I’m more concerned with the real beautiful one sitting right in front of me.” He said grabbing your shaking hands. Your eyes went wide with what he said.
 “Bo I’m confused?” You said looking into his golden eyes.
 “Well that woman you saw me with is not really my date, yes she did bid on me, but she was never my real date. She is actually the guy who owns our gym’s daughter! She agreed to bid on me, but in return she wanted a date with Atsumu’s brother and he agreed to do it! The team helped me do this so I could be with you tonight, but I guess it didn’t go as smoothly as I planned. I’m sorry I made you sad.” Bokuto sat beside you on the bench,
 “Bokuto are you low key confessing to me?” You looked over at him and he smiled and shook his head.
 “Yes and let me do this properly.” He cleared his throat and held his hand out for you to grab, which you gladly accepted. “Y/N please let me be your date tonight and from here on out please!”
 “So like boyfriend and girlfriend Bo?” You said wanting to make sure you got the message right.
 “Yes Y/N, please be my girlfriend. All that flexin on the stage was for you baby!” He stood up and flexed again making you laugh. “But in all seriousness, I freakin love you. So what do you say Y/N?”
 “Yes. I would love nothing mo-“ Bokuto cut you off by lifting your body into his strong arms. You giggled as he swung you both in circles. He slowed down and seen you finally smile again
 “Now that’s a pretty sight, you’re not going to be sad on my watch anymore. Now we better get back inside before we freeze to death!” Bokuto wrapped an arm around your shoulder as you two began to walk back. “Wait I have something for you!” He dug through his pockets and pulled out a small jewelry box and handed it to you. You opened it and there was a necklace with a small owl charm and a “B” charm next to it.
 “Bo this is so cute! Can you help me put it on!” You said handing him the necklace. He struggled to get it on but finally got it. The silver was cold on your skin, but you didn’t mind at all.
 “Omi actually helped me pick it out, believe it or not. He said if I would have went alone I would have got something stupid.” Bokuto said, sliding the jewelry box back into his coat pocket. You hate to admit it but Sakusa going was probably a good thing.
 “Bo I really love it, thank you.” You said leaving up and kissing his cheek. “Now let’s go back, I’ve got to check in on everyone.” You walked into the ballroom with your arm hooked around Bokuto’s bicep.
You scanned the room to see if you could find any of the guys and the only one you could see was Hinata laughing with his date. They seemed to be hitting it off pretty good. “Bokuto let’s go get something to drink.” You both walked towards the bar, you see that girl who bid on Bokuto sitting next to Osamu. They both seemed to be having a good time.
 “Thank you again! The planned worked Y/N is my girlfriend now!” Bokuto walked up to them and showed you off.
 “I’m so glad!” The girl said, clasping her hands together. “You are a cute couple.”
 “Speaking of a cute couple.” Osamu chimed in and pointed towards his brother Atsumu who was being dragged around by that old lady. “I may have given her some free Onigiri vouchers and a few hundred yen to bid on him.” The twin laughed at his brother’s despair.
 “Your evil, but I like it.” The girl said as they clinked their drinks together.
 “You guys enjoy it, we still have to hunt for Omi.” You bowed and clung back on to Bokuto.
After circulating the ballroom a few times you finally find Sakusa and the little girl sitting at a table. Sakusa looked dead tired and the little girl was stuffing her face with cake
 “Omi you look like a tired dad.” Bokuto said bursting out laughing at his teammate.
 “I see your plan worked.” Sakusa said, looking at the necklace through tired eyes.
 “Yes it did now this cutie is all mine.” Bokuto said peppering your cheek with kisses.
 “How disgusting, when you grow up don’t date idiots like him.” Sakusa looked at the child who just nodded her head. It was hilarious to see Omi so out of his element. “That was directed at you Bokuto not Y/N.”
 “Omi, he is a idiot but he is my idiot.” You patted Bokuto’s back.
 “Omi-Omi let’s go dance some more. I like this song.” The little girl tugged on his jacket.
 “Fine.” Omi sighed and followed her dance floor.
 “Now that we know everyone (for the most part) is okay let’s dance!” You said leading Bokuto to the dance floor.
 You danced to every single song and Bo didn’t break anything when the cha cha slide came on. He swung you around all night without a care in the world.
 “Let’s end the night with something nice and slow.” The Dj said putting on (Insert your favorite slow song)
  “May I have this dance pretty girl?” Bokuto asked, holding his hand out to pull you closer to him.
 “The Macarena may have wore me out, but I guess I have enough wind in me for one last song.” You teased wrapping your arms around his neck. He pressed a kiss to your forehead and began to slowly dance you around the room.
 You see that little girl struggling to keep up with Omi’s big steps as he attempted to dance with her, he was at least trying you thought. Hinata was slow dancing with his date of the night, they both seemed comfortable and content with each other. Atsumu was still with that granny but he seemed to have accepted defeat as he danced around with her. Osamu danced with the gym owner’s daughter and made it a mission to kick his brother when they got close enough, he even messed him up enough to cause the old to hit him with the cane again. You felt Bokuto’s grip tighten and he dipped you down enough to finally kiss you on the lips. He pulled away and brought you back up to continue dancing.
“ I love you Y/N.” Bokuto spoke softly in your ear.
 “I love you too.” You said as the song faded out.
 “And one more thing Y/N” Bokuto said, leaning down to whisper in your ear. “I told you I would have the most beautiful girl here.”
