PODTAFSEER: CHAPTER 2 - AL BAQARAH, VERSES 80-82 – PART 7
Tumblr media
“…Or do you say about Allah that which you do not know?”
Some have adopted a strange attitude. When they are questioned about things they are unaware of instead of admitting the truth they give a reply which has little or no foundation in the truth. This can become a serious issue especially in matters connected to Islam. A Muslim may get punished for giving incorrect information which others act on. This has been indicated in a Hadith found in Sahih Muslim, number 2351. This is because they ignorantly attributed things to Allah, the Exalted, or the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him. Because of these people strange beliefs and customs have become attached to Islam which is a great deviation from the truth brought by the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him. In fact, many of the cultural customs Muslims have adopted believing them to be a part of Islam occurred because of this ignorant mentality.
These people believe that if they simply admit they do not know something they will appear foolish to others. This mentality in itself is extremely foolish as the righteous predecessors would stress the importance of admitting one's ignorance so that others do not become misguided. In fact, the righteous predecessors would only count the person who behaved in this manner as in intelligent person and counted the one who answered every question posed to them a fool.
This attitude is often observed in elders who often advise their children on issues relating to the world and religion instead of admitting their ignorance and directing them to someone who knows the truth. When elders act in this way they fail their duty in rightly guiding their dependents which has been indicated in a Hadith found in Sunan Abu Dawud, number 2928.
Muslims should therefore, gain correct knowledge, whether worldly or religious, before advising others and in cases they are unaware of something they should admit it as this will not reduce their rank in anyway. If anything Allah, the Exalted, and people will appreciate their honesty.

PODSERIES: PROPHET CHARACTER – PART 1 OF 8
Tumblr media
As good character will be the heaviest thing in the Scales of Judgement Day it is vital for all muslims to adopt it. This has been confirmed in a Hadith found in Jami At Tirmidhi, number 2003. In fact, the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, once confirmed that he was sent by Allah, the Exalted, to perfect good character. This is confirmed in a Hadith found in Imam Bukhari's, Adab Al Mufrad, number 273. Even though, the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, was blessed with countless virtues and favours the one which Allah, the Exalted, directly complemented was His noble character. Chapter 68 Al Qalam, verse 4:
“And indeed, you are of a great moral character.”
Therefore, this blog series will directly mention the noble characteristics of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, so that muslims can strive to adopt them as adopting his noble character is not possible without knowing them.
A Hadith which summarises the blessed character of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, is found in Sunan Abu Dawud, number 1342. It advises that his character was the Holy Quran. This means the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, adopted all the good characteristics mentioned in the Holy Quran and avoided all the evil characteristics mentioned in it. There was no good quality but he acted on it in the highest possible way and there is no evil characteristic which he did not avoid to the utmost. The Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, fulfilled all the commands of the Holy Quran and avoided all its prohibitions.

Life of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) - Part 24
Tumblr media
Foolish Requests -
In order to put people off from accepting Islam the non-Muslims of Mecca came up with foolish requests, some of which have been recorded in the Holy Quran, such as requesting an Angel to openly appear in front of them and verify that he was the Holy Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, of Allah, the Exalted. This has been discussed in Imam Ibn Kathir’s, the Life of the Prophet, Volume 1, Pages 348-349. Chapter 15 Al Hijr, verse 7:
“Why do you not bring us the angels, if you should be among the truthful?"”
Belief in the unseen is a core element of faith and without it faith loses its value. If the things which are unseen, such as Angels, were made apparent to people in this world then it would diminish the quality of their faith.
The unseen are things which cannot be perceived through the five senses in this world for example, Hell. They must be accepted as true the knowledge of which was brought and confirmed by the Holy Prophets, peace be upon them. This is another indication that right guidance is not possible without following the footsteps of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, as the knowledge regarding the unseen, such as the existence of Hell, can only be delivered by the Holy Prophets, peace be upon them. The unseen must stay hidden in this life. If they are revealed then the concept of faith becomes meaningless as faith involves belief in something which is beyond the perception of the five senses.
The Muslim who truly believes in the unseen, such as Paradise, even though they have not witnessed it should also firmly believe that everything which occurs in their life, whether it is pleasing to them or not, occurs for a good reason even if that reason is unseen to them. So the same way one firmly believes in these unseen things they should believe in the wise choices of Allah, the Exalted, which are also unseen. This will encourage them towards patience and lead them to an uncountable reward. Chapter 39 Az Zumar, verse 10:
“…the patient will be given their reward without account [i.e., limit]."

PODSERIES: AVOIDING HYPOCRISY – PART 5 OF 8
Tumblr media
The last blog was discussing the aspects of minor hypocrisy, which can be found within muslims. Another sign of hypocrisy is that a person dislikes the choices of Allah, the Exalted, and the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, even though they have been commanded to submit to them. Chapter 4 An Nisa, verse 65:
“But no, by your Lord, they will not [truly] believe until they make you, [O Muhammad], judge concerning that over which they dispute among themselves and then find within themselves no discomfort from what you have judged and submit in [full, willing] submission.”
They believe their own opinion and thinking is superior to the choice of Allah, the Exalted. This causes them to worship Allah, the Exalted, on the edge. Meaning, when something good happens they praise Allah, the Exalted. But when something occurs which contradicts their desires they turn away from the obedience of Allah, the Exalted, through impatience. Chapter 22 Al Hajj, verse 11:
“And of the people is he who worships Allah on an edge. If he is touched by good, he is reassured by it; but if he is struck by trial, he turns on his face [to unbelief]. He has lost [this] world and the Hereafter. That is what is the manifest loss.”
They are quick in worldly activities but extremely slow in performing righteous deeds. For example, the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, once described their attitude towards performing the obligatory prayers in a Hadith found in Jami At Tirmidhi, number 160. They wait until the last possible moment to offer their obligatory prayer, rush through it without fulfilling its etiquettes, such as pausing in between each position, and only remember, Allah, the Exalted, a little before they rush off back to their worldly activities. Chapter 4 An Nisa, verse 142:
“Indeed, the hypocrites [think to] deceive Allah, but He is deceiving them. And when they stand for prayer, they stand lazily, showing [themselves to] the people and not remembering Allah except a little.”
These people very rarely offer the congregational prayer at the Mosque even though they have no valid excuse. In fact, the only thing preventing them is their extreme laziness towards acts of righteousness. They avoid this righteous deed even though many Hadiths discuss its importance. For example, the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, once warned in a Hadith found in Sunan Abu Dawud, number 548, that he desired to appoint someone else to lead the prayer and then order for the houses of those men who do not pray with the congregation at the Mosque without a valid reason to be burned down. In fact, one Hadith found in Sunan An Nasai, number 850, advises that the one who did not offer the obligatory prayer with congregation at the Mosque without a valid excuse in the time of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, was considered a hypocrite by the Companions, may Allah be pleased with them, as this was their usual habit.
One should not cherry pick according to their desires which traditions of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, to follow. These are the people who perform the actions they desire and when they are told to act on more important traditions they simply claim that they are not obligatory. This can be considered an aspect of hypocrisy.

GOOD COMPANIONSHIP IN MARRIAGE – PART 8 OF 9
Tumblr media
The last blog was discussing the importance of good companionship within marriage. Another aspect of kind treatment is for each muslim to remove the fairytale images of marriage out of their minds as no one is a perfect person or spouse and truly understand that the same way they are far from perfect so are others. Meaning, the same way one makes mistakes so do others and the same way one would like others to overlook and forgive them so should they overlook and forgive the mistakes of others. Chapter 24 An Nur, verse 22:
“…and let them pardon and overlook. Would you not like that Allah should forgive you?...”
This is even more important for married couples as not overlooking and letting things go will only ever lead to strain in their marriage. Each muslim should learn to let things go and not hold on to grudges thereby using the past mistakes of their spouse against them. Unfortunately, this mentality is very common in muslims today they refuse to let things go and remind others of their mistakes even decades later. This not only reduces the chances of them being forgiven by Allah, the Exalted, but also leads to enmity and difficulties in their relationships. As a married couple spend much time together this type of attitude can be disastrous. Learning to let things go not only makes one a better muslim and increases their chance of being forgiven by Allah, the Exalted, but it also creates respect and love for them in the heart of their spouse. This will cause their spouse to strive harder to please them. Apart from unlawful things a muslim should learn to let other smaller issues go and not turn them into a big deal. It is sad to hear that married couples often argue over petty things. The one who nitpicks will never have a successful marriage. They will only make their own and the lives of others difficult. If Allah, the Exalted, does not nitpick even though He has knowledge over all things neither should muslims if they desire to find some joy in their relationships especially, marriage. This is why the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, advised in a Hadith found in Sahih Muslim, number 3645, that a person should not dislike their spouse over a characteristic they possess as they might possess other characteristics which are pleasing to them. This Hadith also advises that a muslim should try to observe their spouse in a positive way instead of always observing or assessing their negative characteristics. It does not mean they should behave as if their spouse is perfect. It means they should not nitpick at minor negative characteristics while gently encouraging them to abandon them with the passing of time. There is a vast difference between completely ignoring the negative characteristics of others and acting as if they are perfect and concentrating on their positive aspects while gently advising them to change for the better. People very rarely change overnight so muslims should be patient as it takes time to change negative characteristics.

PODHADITH: SLAVES OF THE WORLD
Tumblr media
In a Hadith found in Sahih Bukhari, number 2886, the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, criticized the slaves of wealth and fine clothing. These people are pleased when they receive these things and become displeased when they do not.
In reality, this applies to all non-essential worldly things. This criticism is not directed at those who strive in the material world in order to fulfill their needs and the needs of their dependents as this is a part of obeying Allah, the Exalted. But it is directed at those who either pursue the unlawful in order to obtain wealth and other worldly things in order to satisfy their desires and the desires of others and it is directed at those who pursue non-essential lawful things in such a way that it causes them to neglect obeying Allah, the Exalted, correctly. This obedience involves fulfilling His commands, refraining from His prohibitions and facing destiny with patience according to the traditions of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him. This prevents them from preparing adequately for the hereafter and their final judgment.
In addition, this criticism is for those who are impatient when they do not obtain their unnecessary desires in this world. This attitude can cause a muslim to obey Allah, the Exalted, on the edge. Meaning, they obey Him when they obtain their desires but when they do not they angrily turn away from His obedience. The Holy Quran has warned of a severe loss in both worlds for the one who adopts this attitude.
Muslims should instead learn to be patient and content with what they possess as this is true richness according to a Hadith found in Sahih Muslim, number 2420. In reality, the person full of desires is needy meaning, poor even if they possess much wealth. A muslim should know Allah, the Exalted, grants people what is best for them and not according to their desires as this in most cases would lead to their destruction. Chapter 42 Ash Shuraa, verse 27:
“And if Allah had extended [excessively] provision for His servants, they would have committed tyranny throughout the earth. But He sends [it] down in an amount which He wills. Indeed He is, of His servants, Aware and Seeing.”

PODTAFSEER: CHAPTER 2 - AL BAQARAH, VERSES 80-82 – PART 6
Tumblr media
“…Or do you say about Allah that which you do not know?”
A great distraction which prevents one from submitting to the obedience of Allah, the Exalted, is ignorance. It can be argued that it is the origin of every sin as the one who truly knows the consequences of sins would never commit them. This refers to true beneficial knowledge which is knowledge that is acted upon. In reality, all knowledge which is not acted on is not beneficial knowledge. The example of the one who behaves in this manner is described in the Holy Quran as a donkey which carries books of knowledge which do not benefit it. Chapter 62 Al Jumu’ah, verse 5:
“…and then did not take it on(did not act upon knowledge) is like that of a donkey who carries volumes [of books]…”
A person who acts on their knowledge rarely slips up and commits sins intentionally. In fact, when this occurs it is only caused by a moment of ignorance where a person forgets to act on their knowledge which results in them sinning.
The Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, once highlighted the seriousness of ignorance in a Hadith found in Jami At Tirmidhi, number 2322. He declared that everything in the material world is cursed except for the remembrance of Allah, the Exalted, whatever is connected to this remembrance, the scholar and the student of knowledge. This means that all the blessings in the material world will become a curse for the one who is ignorant as they will misuse them thereby committing sins.
In fact, ignorance can be considered a person's worse enemy as it prevents them from protecting themself from harm and gaining benefit all of which can only be achieved through acting on knowledge. The ignorant commits sins without being aware of them. How can one avoid a sin if they do not know what is considered a sin? Ignorance causes one to neglect their obligatory duties. How can one fulfil their duties if they are unaware of what their duties are?
It is therefore a duty on all Muslims to gain enough knowledge to fulfil all their obligatory duties and avoid sins. This is confirmed in a Hadith found in Sunan Ibn Majah, number 224.

PODSERIES: LOSING A LOVED ONE – PART 4 OF 4
Tumblr media
The last blog was discussing some of the ways which can help one deal with the loss of a loved one.
Another thing which can help is to perform the deeds which have been reported to benefit the deceased. According to a Hadith found in Sahih Bukhari, number 2770, giving charity on behalf of the deceased benefits them. As mentioned in an earlier blog a child seeking forgiveness for their deceased parent will benefit them. And when this is done sincerely it provides much relief for the child also. This is confirmed in a Hadith found in Sunan An Nasai, number 3681. Any act of charity which benefits others done on behalf of the deceased will benefit them. So a muslim should strive to perform these deeds irrespective of their size. One should never consider any deed too small as the deceased will most certainly appreciate deeds of any size.
Finally, a thing which can benefit a person experiencing the loss of a loved one is reflecting on their own mortality. This might not be a pleasant task but it will undoubtedly benefit them in both worlds as the key to changing one's character for the better is self-reflection. In most cases, muslims do not understand the Arabic language so performing righteous deeds associated with it, such as reciting the Holy Quran, in most cases, have a little effect in changing one for the better. It is important to take a lesson from the death of others so that one can correctly prepare for their own death. One should remember that the same way their beloved departed this world alone so will they. A person’s family and wealth will leave them at their grave while only their deeds remain with them. This is confirmed in a Hadith found in Sahih Muslim, number 7424.
One should reflect now before they reach a time when reflecting on their deeds will not benefit them. Chapter 89 Al Fajr, verse 23:
“And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but how [i.e., what good] to him will be the remembrance?”

Life of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) - Part 23
Tumblr media
A Pure Intention -
Once the leaders of the non-Muslims of Mecca offered the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, all the wealth he desired, they offered to make him their tribal leader and even their king but all he had to do was abandon preaching Islam. But the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, replied that his intention in delivering the message of Islam was not for the sake of gaining wealth, honor or sovereignty. His only intention was to fulfill his mission as the final Holy Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, of Allah, the Exalted, in order to please Him. This has been discussed in Imam Ibn Kathir’s, the Life of the Prophet, Volume 1, Pages 347-348.
From this incident a Muslim can learn the importance of not desiring worldly things when spreading the knowledge of Islam.
In a Hadith found in Sunan Ibn Majah, number 253, the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, warned that the one who obtains religious knowledge in order to show off to scholars, argue with others or attract attention to themself will go to Hell.
Even though, the foundation of all good in both worldly and religious matters is knowledge Muslims must understand that knowledge will only benefit them when they firstly correct their intention. Meaning, they strive to obtain and act on knowledge in order to please Allah, the Exalted. All other reasons will only lead to a loss of reward and even punishment if a Muslim fails to sincerely repent.
In reality, knowledge is like rain water which falls on different types of trees. Some trees grow by this water in order to benefit others such as a fruit tree. Whereas, other trees grow by this water and become a nuisance to others such as a thorny tree. Even though, the rain water is the same in both cases but the outcome is very different. Similarly, religious knowledge is the same for people but if one adopts the incorrect intention then it will become a means of their destruction. Conversely, if one adopts the correct intention it will become a means of their salvation.
Muslims should therefore correct their intention in all matters as they will be judged on this. This is confirmed in a Hadith found in Sahih Bukhari, number 1. And they should remember that one of the first people to enter Hell will be a scholar who only obtained knowledge in order to show off to others. This has been warned in a Hadith found in Sahih Muslim, number 4923.
To conclude, only obtaining and acting on useful knowledge with the correct intention is true beneficial knowledge.

PODSERIES: AVOIDING HYPOCRISY – PART 4 OF 8
Tumblr media
The last blog was discussing the aspects of minor hypocrisy, which can be found within muslims. Another sign of hypocrisy is that a person spreads corruption in society. This negative characteristic affects all social levels beginning from a family unit and ending at the international level. This type of person dislikes seeing people uniting on good as this may cause the worldly status of others to increase beyond their own. This drives them to backbiting and slander in order to cause people to turn against each other. Their evil attitude destroys their own ties of kinship and when they observe other families who are happy it drives them to destroy their happiness also. They are fault finders who dedicate their time unveiling the mistakes of others in order to drag their social status down. They are the first people to begin gossiping about others and act deaf whenever good things are spoken about. Peace and quiet disturbs them so they seek to create problems in order to entertain themself. They fail to remember the Hadith found in Sunan Ibn Majah, number 2546. It advises that whoever covers the faults of others Allah, the Exalted, will cover their faults. But whoever seeks out and unveils the faults of others Allah, the Exalted, will expose their faults to the people. So in realty, this type of person is only unveiling their own faults to society even though they believe they are exposing the faults of others.
A part of hypocrisy is that a person not only commits evil deeds themself and abstains from righteous deeds but they encourage others to do the same. They want others to be in the same boat as them so that they find some comfort in their evil character. They not only drown themself but take others down with them. Muslims must know that a person will be held accountable for every other person who commits a sin because of their invitation. This person will be treated as if they committed the sin even though they only invited others towards it. This has been confirmed in a Hadith found in Sunan Ibn Majah, number 203. This is why some have said that blessed is the person whose evil dies with them because their sins will increase if others act on their evil advice even though they are no longer alive.
Their extreme greed places them far from Allah, the Exalted, and the people and close to Hell. This has been warned in a Hadith found in Jami At Tirmidhi, number 1961. They dislike when others donate charity as their greed becomes manifest to others. As mentioned earlier they also put people off from donating charity as they dislike society labelling others as generous. So they always try to put people off from donating charity with poor reasons such as labelling charities as con artists. These people should be ignored as Allah, the Exalted, judges people on their intention which is confirmed in a Hadith found in Sahih Bukhari, number 1. So even if their donated wealth does not reach the poor as long as a person donates through a trustworthy well known charity they will receive their reward according to their intention. Chapter 9 At Tawbah, verse 67:
“The hypocrite men and hypocrite women are of one another. They enjoin what is wrong and forbid what is right and close their hands…”

GOOD COMPANIONSHIP IN MARRIAGE – PART 7 OF 9
Tumblr media
The last blog was discussing the importance of good companionship within marriage. Another aspect of kind treatment within a marriage is to avoid too much criticism in things which are not connected to obligatory or unlawful things. Too much criticism, even if it is constructive, can lead to enmity. A wise person understands that the majority of people especially, in this day and age, do not like to be constructively criticized. This habit will only lead to enmity between a married couple. Constructively criticizing once in a while is acceptable as it helps one another improve as muslims but it should not be overdone. It must be done in a kind manner and at the appropriate time. Saying the right thing at the inappropriate time can lead to further problems. The only time one should be firm is with respect to the obligatory duties. But even then they should not stray away from the traditions of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, Peace and blessings be upon him, and maintain kindness while addressing these issues.
Part of living in kindness is understanding that marriage is about sacrifice and compromising. A spouse cannot expect to get what they desire all the time. Marriage is a relationship of giving and taking. In most cases, the more one gives up and sacrifices for their spouse the more they will appreciate and in return sacrifice for them.
Even when one’s spouse demonstrates bad manners a muslim should not reply in kind as this is not a sign of a true muslim. Instead, they should fear Allah, the Exalted, and the consequences of bad manners and demonstrate good manners to their spouse. This will only elevate their status in this world and the next. And even the worse of people will eventually appreciate this reaction from someone even if they do not show it. A muslim should remember Allah, the Exalted, is watching them and will reward them in both worlds. When a muslim treats their spouse kindly for the sake of Allah, the Exalted, then their reward is with Him. They should not seek compensation from their spouse. If one desires reward from Allah, the Exalted, they should act for His sake and only seek reward from Him not others. This is an extremely important point many overlook. They treat their spouse kindly expecting payment from them when they should act for the sake of Allah, the Exalted, as He has commanded them to treat their spouse kindly. Whoever seeks reward from people will be told to gain reward from them on Judgment Day which will not be possible. This is confirmed in a Hadith found in Jami At Tirmidhi, number 3154.

PODHADITH: SPEND ACCORDING TO MEANS
Tumblr media
In a Hadith found in Sahih Muslim, number 2376, the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, indicated that the one who spends in ways pleasing to Allah, the Exalted, will be rewarded according to what they give. And he warned not to hoard otherwise Allah, the Exalted, will withhold His blessings.
It is important to note, that one must only obtain and spend lawful wealth as any righteous deed which has a foundation in the unlawful will be rejected by Allah, the Exalted, irrespective of one's intention. This has been warned in a Hadith found in Sahih Muslim, number 2342.
In addition, this spending is not only through charity but definitely includes spending on one's own necessities and the necessities of their dependents according to the teachings of Islam without waste, excessiveness or extravagance. This is in fact a righteous deed according to a Hadith found in Sahih Bukhari, number 4006. A muslim should spend in a balanced way whereby they help others without becoming needy themself. Chapter 17 Al Isra, verse 29:
“And do not make your hand [as] chained to your neck or extend it completely and [thereby] become blamed and insolvent.”
A muslim should donate regularly according to their means even if it is a little as Allah, the Exalted, observes one’s quality meaning, their sincerity, not the quantity of a deed. Regularly donating a little is far better and more beloved to Allah, the Exalted, than donating a larger amount once in a while. This has been advised in a Hadith found in Sahih Bukhari, number 6465.
It is important to note, as mentioned in this Hadith when one gives according to their means Allah, the Exalted, will reward them according to His infinite status. But the one who holds back will find a similar response from Allah, the Exalted. If a muslim hoards their wealth they will leave it behind for others to enjoy while they are held accountable for it. If they misuse it it will become a curse and burden for them in this world and a punishment in the next.

PODTAFSEER: CHAPTER 2 - AL BAQARAH, VERSES 80-82 – PART 5
Tumblr media
“…Or do you say about Allah that which you do not know?”
In a Hadith found in Jami At Tirmidhi, number 2501, the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, declared that whoever is silent is saved.
This means the one who is silent from vain or evil speech and only speaks good words will be saved by Allah, the Exalted, in both worlds. This is important to understand as the main reason people will enter Hell is because of their speech. This has been warned in a Hadith found in Jami At Tirmidhi, number 2616. In fact, it only takes a single evil word to cause a person to plunge into Hell on Judgement Day which has been confirmed in a Hadith found in Jami At Tirmidhi, number 2314.
Speech can be of three types. The first is evil speech which should be avoided at all costs. The second is vain speech which only causes one to waste time which will lead to a great regret on Judgment Day. In addition, the first step of sinful speech is often vain speech. So it is safer to avoid this type of speech. The final type is good speech which should always be adopted. Based on these aspects two thirds of speech should be removed from one's life.
In addition, the one who speaks too much will only reflect on their actions and the hereafter a little as this requires silence. This will prevent one from assessing their deeds which inspires one to perform more righteous deeds and sincerely repent from their sins. This person will then be prevented from changing for the better.
Finally, those who speak too much often discuss worldly things and things which are entertaining and fun. This will cause them to adopt a mentality whereby they dislike discussing or listening to serious issues like death and the hereafter. This will prevent them from preparing adequately for the hereafter which will lead to a great regret and a potential punishment.
All of this can be avoided if one simply remains silent from sinful and vain speech and instead only speaks good words. Therefore, the one who is silent in this way will be saved from trouble in this world and from punishment in the next world.

PODSERIES: LOSING A LOVED ONE – PART 3 OF 4
Tumblr media
The last blog was discussing some of the ways which can help one deal with the loss of a loved one.
Another thing which can help is supplicating to Allah, the Exalted. One should supplicate and ask Allah, the Exalted, for patience in dealing with their tragedy so that they can reap an uncountable reward. Chapter 2 Al Baqarah, verses 156 to 157:
“Who, when disaster strikes them, say, "Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return." Those are the ones upon whom are blessings from their Lord and mercy. And it is those who are the [rightly] guided.”
The Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, has advised, in a Hadith found in Sunan Ibn Majah, number 1447, to ask for forgiveness for oneself, the deceased and to request Allah, the Exalted, to replace their loss with something better. This something better includes the mercy of Allah, the Exalted, in both worlds.
One should also supplicate for the deceased as often as possible as it is proven from the Holy Quran and the Hadith of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, that it benefits them. Chapter 14 Ibrahim, verse 41:
“Our Lord, forgive me and my parents and the believers the Day the account is established."
And chapter 59 Al Hashr, verse 10:
“…saying, "Our Lord, forgive us and our brothers who preceded us in faith…”
Finally, the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, have specifically mentioned in Hadiths such as the one found in Sunan Abu Dawud, number 2880, that the supplication of a child on behalf of their deceased parent is accepted.
Another thing which can help strengthen the faith of a muslim when a loved one departs is to sincerely forgive any wrong the deceased might have done to them. This causes the doors of mercy and forgiveness to be opened for the mourner as Allah, the Exalted, forgives those who forgive others for His sake. Chapter 24 An Nur, verse 22:
“…and let them pardon and overlook. Would you not like that Allah should forgive you?...”
When one adopts this attitude it is hoped Allah, the Exalted, will provide them the strength to deal with their loss in a way which earns them countless reward.
Similarly, one should encourage others who were wronged by the deceased to also forgive them before the Day of Judgment arrives. As the Last Day is a day of justice. All wrongs will be put right by Allah, the Exalted. So if one who has wronged another does not obtain forgiveness from their victim they will be forced to hand over their good deeds to their victim and if required take their sins until justice is established. This may well lead to the oppressor being hurled into Hell. This has been warned in a Hadith found in Sahih Muslim, Number 6 5 7 9.
One can and should repay any debts their loved one left behind as this too is an important issue which will be addressed on Judgment Day.  All are aware of the rank of martyrdom yet, even their debts will not be forgiven until they are settled. This is confirmed in a Hadith found in Sahih Muslim, number 4880.
A muslim should also gain further blessings and the aid of Allah, the Exalted, by helping with the funeral arrangements and fees. Not only will this lead to blessings which will strengthen a muslim in their moment of grief but it is also considered a crucial part of helping one to move on from the death of their loved one.

Life of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) - Part 22
Tumblr media
Justice in Business -
A man once brought into Mecca some camels which he sold to the uncle of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, Abu Jahl. But Abu Jahl delayed paying for them and when the man requested help from the people of Mecca as he was a stranger in the city the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, aided him. The Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, took the man to the home of Abu Jahl, knocked on his door and when he answered he commanded him to pay the man what was owed. With great fear Abu Jahl hurried inside his home and returned with the money and the man left after thanking the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him. Later on Abu Jahl told people that during the incident his heart was full of terror and when he opened the door he saw a dangerous and angry stallion camel next to the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, and he feared the creature would eat him so he paid the man what was due. This incident has been recorded in Imam Ibn Kathir’s, the Life of the Prophet, Volume 1, Pages 340-341.
This incident indicates the importance of being honest and just in all business dealings. In a Hadith found in Sunan Ibn Majah, number 2146, the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, warned that merchants will be raised as immoral people on Judgment Day except those who fear Allah, the Exalted, act righteously and speak the truth.
This Hadith applies to all those who take part in business transactions. It is extremely important to fear Allah, the Exalted, by fulfilling His commands, refraining from His prohibitions and facing destiny with patience. This includes treating others kindly according to the teachings of Islam. In respect to business dealings a Muslim should be honest in their speech by disclosing all the details of the transaction to all who are involved. A Hadith found in Sahih Bukhari, number 2079, warns that when Muslims hide things in financial transactions, such as defects in their goods, it will lead to a loss in blessings.
Acting righteously includes not striving to con others by making them pay excessively for goods. A Muslim should simply treat others how they desire to be treated meaning, with honesty and full disclosure. The same way, a Muslim would not like to be mistreated in financial matters they should not mistreat others.
Those conducting business should always avoid lying as it leads to immorality and immortality leads to Hell. In fact, a person will keep telling and acting on lies until they are recorded as a great liar by Allah, the Exalted. This has been warned in a Hadith found in Jami At Tirmidhi, number 1971.
In addition, this incident indicates the importance of aiding those in difficulties by objecting to evil practices. The Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, has advised the importance of objecting to evil things in a Hadith found in Sunan Abu Dawud, number 4340. This Hadith clearly shows that it is a duty on all Muslims to object to all forms of evil according to their strength and means. The lowest level, as mentioned in this Hadith, is rejecting the evil with one's heart.
This shows internally approving evil actions is one of the ugliest of those things which are forbidden. In fact, the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, warned in a Hadith found in Sunan Abu Dawud, number 4345, that the one who is present when an evil is committed and denounces it is like the one who was not present. But the one who was absent and approved the evil deed is like the one who was present when it was committed.
The first two aspects of objecting to evil, mentioned in the main Hadith under discussion, are through one’s physical actions and speech. This is only a duty on a Muslim who has the strength to do so for example, they will not be harmed by their actions or words.
It is important to note, objecting to evil with one's hand does not refer to fighting. It refers to correcting the evil actions of others, such as returning the rights of someone which have been unlawfully violated. The one who is in a position to do so yet, refrains from doing so has been warned of a punishment in a Hadith found in Sunan Abu Dawud, number 4338.
The Holy Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, has advised Muslims in a Hadith found in Jami At Tirmidhi, number 2191, that they should not fear the creation in respect to speaking the truth. In fact, the one who allows the fear of the creation to prevent them from objecting to evil things has been described as the one who hates themself and will be criticized by Allah, the Exalted, on Judgment Day. This is confirmed in a Hadith found in Sunan Ibn Majah, number 4008. It is important to note, this does not refer to the one who remains silent out of fear of being harmed as this is an acceptable excuse but it refers to the person who remains silent because of the status people hold in their eyes.
A Hadith found in Sunan Abu Dawud, number 4341, advises that a person can give up objecting to evil things through their actions and speech when others obey their greed, follow their incorrect opinions and desires and when they prefer the material world over the hereafter. It does not take a scholar to conclude this time has arrived. Chapter 5 Al Ma’idah, verse 105.
“O you who have believed, upon you is [responsibility for] yourselves. Those who have gone astray will not harm you when you have been guided…”
But it is important to note, a Muslim should continue with this important duty in respect to their dependents as this is a duty on them according to a Hadith found in Sunan Abu Dawud, number 2928, and in respect to those they feel physically and verbally safe from, as this is the superior attitude.
Objecting to evil things which are apparent is what the main Hadith under discussion refers to. Meaning, it does not grant permission to Muslims to spy on others in order to find evil things to object to. Spying and anything associated with it in this respect are forbidden. Chapter 49 Al Hujurat, verse 12:
“O you who have believed…do not spy…”
It is important to note, that a Muslim must object to evil according to the teachings of Islam and not their on desires. A Muslim may believe they are acting for sake of Allah, the Exalted, when they are not. This is proven when they object to evil in a way which contradicts the teachings of Islam. In fact, what is considered a good deed may well become a sin because of this negative attitude.
A Muslim must object to evil in a gentle and fair way preferably in private in accordance to the teachings of the Holy Quran and the traditions of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him. The opposite of these characteristics will only push people away from sincerely repenting and may lead to further sins as a result of angering them.
In a Hadith found in Sahih Muslim, number 6853, the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, advised that whoever relieves the distress of a Muslim Allah, the Exalted, will relieve a hardship from them on the Day of Judgment.
This shows that a Muslim is treated by Allah, the Exalted, in the same way they act. There are many examples of this within the teachings of Islam. For example, chapter 2 Al Baqarah, verse 152:
“So remember Me; I will remember you…”
Another example is mentioned in a Hadith found in Jami At Tirmidhi, number 1924. The Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, advised that the one who shows mercy to others will receive mercy from Allah, the Exalted.
A distress is anything which causes someone to fall into anxiety and difficulty. Therefore, the one who eases such a distress for another whether worldly or religious for the sake of Allah, the Exalted, will be protected from a hardship on Judgment Day by Allah, the Exalted. This has been indicated in different ways in many Hadiths. For example, the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, advised in a Hadith found in Jami At Tirmidhi, number 2449, that the one who feeds a hungry Muslim will be fed the fruits of Paradise on the Day of Judgment. And the one who gives a drink to a thirsty Muslim will be given a drink from Paradise by Allah, the Exalted, on the Day of Judgment.
As the difficulties of the hereafter are much greater than those found in the world this reward is held back for a Muslim until they reach the hereafter.
The next thing mentioned in this Hadith is that Allah, the Exalted, will continue helping a Muslim as long as they are helping others. A Muslim must understand that when they strive for something or are aided by another person to complete a particular task the outcome may be successful or end in failure. But when Allah, the Exalted, helps someone with anything a successful outcome is guaranteed. Therefore, Muslims should, for their own sake, strive to help others in all good things so that they receive the help of Allah, the Exalted, in both worldly and religious matters.

PODSERIES: AVOIDING HYPOCRISY – PART 3 OF 8
Tumblr media
The last blog was discussing the aspects of minor hypocrisy, which can be found within muslims. Another signs of hypocrisy is showing off to people in order to seek fame and other worldly things. Chapter 4 An Nisa, verse 142:
“Indeed, the hypocrites [think to] deceive Allah, but He is deceiving them. And when they stand for prayer, they stand lazily, showing [themselves to] the people and not remembering Allah except a little.”
Showing off is such a serious spiritual disease that the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, classified it as the minor version of polytheism in a Hadith found in Sunan Ibn Majah, number 3989. In fact, the one who does this will not gain any reward from Allah, the Exalted, in this world or the next. They will be told on Judgment Day to seek their reward from the people they acted for, which will not be possible. This is confirmed in a Hadith found in Jami At Tirmidhi, number 3154. Showing off is so deadly that it will completely ruin a person irrespective of the righteous deeds they have performed. For example, a martyr, scholar and a generous person will be hurled into Hell on Judgement Day because of showing off even though their deeds were extremely righteous. This has been warned in a Hadith found in Sahih Muslim, number 4923.
Another aspect of hypocrisy is being lazy in matters of faith while being eager and responsive in matters of the world. It is often seen how some muslims can easily spend the night earning wealth but if they are requested to dedicate a small portion of the night in voluntary worship such as, reciting the Holy Quran, they find it burdensome and suddenly become lazy. These same people will happily go out in the middle of the night for the sake of travelling or entertainment yet, their bodies become like immovable mountains when they are advised to attend the local Mosque for the morning obligatory prayer. These people will dedicate hours on end to learning worldly knowledge, which is not prohibited in Islam, yet will not find the energy or time to study a single verse of the Holy Quran or a single Hadith of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him. They will stare at a television for hours enjoying their mindless dramas and films yet, their eyes will suddenly become too heavy to keep open when invited to watch a short religious program. It is strange how muslims desire the constant help and support of Allah, the Exalted, yet they are too lazy to dedicate a small fraction of their day in acts which please Him beyond the obligatory prayers which in total take less than an hour to complete. Muslims must understand that what they give is what they shall receive. If they behave lazily and turn away from those acts which please Allah, the Exalted, then they should not expect much help from Him in their hour of need. No one expects a muslim to dedicate all day to acts of righteousness but a muslim should sincerely reflect on their daily timetable and honestly judge for themselves if they are dedicating as much time as they should do to those actions which please Allah, the Exalted. If a person can make time for earning unnecessary wealth and enjoying other worldly activities they should avoid laziness and make time for Allah, the Exalted.

GOOD COMPANIONSHIP IN MARRIAGE – PART 6 OF 9
Tumblr media
The last blog was discussing the importance of good companionship within marriage.
Another element of good companionship between a married couple is kind treatment. Not only should a person show kind treatment to their spouse through their words but also through their actions. In fact, the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, has advised in a Hadith found in Jami At Tirmidhi, number 3895, that the best man is the one who treats their wife kindly. Therefore, a muslim will never perfect their character until they treat their spouse kindly even if they treat others with respect and kindness. The rights of all people must be fulfilled one cannot expect success by fulfilling the rights of some relatives and ignore the rights of others. A true muslim strives to fulfil all the rights appointed to them by Allah, the Exalted.
In a Hadith found in Jami At Tirmidhi, number 2003, the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, advised that the heaviest thing in the Scales of Judgment Day will be good character. It is therefore essential for muslims to adopt this behaviour especially, with their relatives, such as their spouse. It is clear hypocrisy to treat the outside world with kindness and treat one's own family, such as one’s spouse unkindly. This person is only following their own desires and not Islamic teachings. This two faced person will eventually be exposed and disgraced in this world and they will encounter a great punishment in the next world unless they sincerely repent.
An aspect of kind treatment in marriage is that each spouse should aid each other in the house chores. In fact, the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, would help his family with the house chores thereby proving these chores are gender neutral. This is confirmed in a Hadith found in Sahih Bukhari, number 6039. But it is important to note, that a muslim should correctly follow the tradition of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, and not follow their own desires. This Hadith clearly adds that when it was time for the obligatory prayer he would leave for the Mosque. This clearly indicates that helping with house chores is important but the obligatory prayer with congregation at the Mosque is more important.  Each tradition is prioritised and one should follow this order correctly and not cherry pick which traditions they desire to follow.
Another aspect of kind treatment is showing affection to one another. This does not reduce the manliness of a husband by doing so. It is a way to demonstrate to one's spouse that they have an important place in their life. This increases love and kind treatment amongst a married couple. But it is important to note, that modesty should always be maintained especially, in front of others. This is why it is important for a married couple to have a private space within their home where they can spend some private time together during the day.
