I just saw a (actually very good and well-intentioned) post estimating that, unlike in influencer haul culture, a lower-income person might use a pair of jeans for 2-5 years instead of buying new ones every few months as fashion changes. Granted I do NOT wear jeans every day so they don't wear out nearly as fast, but my current ones are almost a decade old and only now needing to be patched (with mending I hope to get a few more out of them). I think the oldest item in my wardrobe is about 20 years old and that's only because anything older is literal children's clothing that no longer fits.

So now I'm curious - how long do you keep clothing before trashing it? Do you mend things you really love, or hold on to styles you still like that are no longer trendy? What's the lifespan of your wardrobe?

#I have a pair of Nike shorts from 2012 when I was 14 #but my sister and I both wear them #I keep clothes as long as I can fit into them #but my size fluctuates constantly #so if they don’t fit I either give them to my family/friends #or donate them to secondhand stores #because I do take good care of my clothing for the most part

Took my dog on a hike today and a yellow monarch butterfly followed us to 3 waterfalls

#my aunt passed away in November and loved chasing waterfalls #idk what you believe or don’t believe in but it was comforting to have the butterfly with me while I explored #me #face #my face #selfie

Why do you study history

#number one response when I tell people I have 2 degrees in history: I hated history it’s so boring #because the education system made it boring! #historiography suck lmfao don’t get me wrong I HATE having to prove why I know what I know #but people have deadass always been people #and it’s so fun to see how we’ve changed so much and so little simultaneously
