Once again, I hope SAG strikes too
We could lose acting, filmmaking, television as we know it.

So…that Sharpie tip I gave the other day? You can make gradients, too!! Just use a q-tip to gently blend the colors while they’re wet! Instagram Facebook Twitter .

Taako’s coming along nicely! I definitely plan to do an original design as well once I’m done with this one. He’s just so much fun. :)
Lots more TAZ content over on @itmedupree!

Taako progress! Since the costume’s about half done, I just had to do a makeup test. It is… nearly impossible to hold up the open umbrella while wearing that huge hat and not have them hit each other. >o<  The shorts are a placeholder as I’m waiting for the proper ones to come in. I feel like the galaxy inside the umbrella is still a bit dark, but there’s not much I can do about it now… hopefully it’ll photograph better in natural light.

how do you decide what to do with your face in pictures? there are a lot of tutorials on posing but they mostly just talk about the body and i feel like my face looks boring or weird in most pictures
AS ALWAYS this stuff takes practice. You get more comfortable the more you do it, but there are tips and shortcuts to help you achieve something more in your control then just smiling and hoping you look right.
My favorite tips are the, “MMMM”  “me” “haha” and “you” tricks! And what they are, are words to say to yourself during your pose to help train your face into specific structures. For smiling for example, specifically with your mouth closed, practice saying “MMM” when you pose! It creates a really natural curve to your mouth, without making your cheeks ache and contract when you force yourself into a fake smile. I know this all sounds stupid, but seriously try it. Try it in some selfies, practice agnling your head. Say it out loud if you need to!Here’s me saying “MMMM” to make a closed lipped smile!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For an open mouthed, natural, teeth smile, say “Me” when you pose!! You can either say “Me” as you smile for a prounouced smile, or simply say it as the shutter goes off to catch a more candid looking, happy state of your face.
These are all “me” poses, where im literally saying the word under my breath to train my face.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Saying “You” so youself as you exhale through your lips, creates a very neutral, easy, UN TENSE, looking face. Its my go to for everything. YOU poses are awesome for static poses, where you just need your face to look normal, natural, and pretty. Lol. It’s great cause if you dont do this and keep your mouth closed, you often look boring or too stiff. Sayng “you” activates your muscles and livens your face enough that you dont look dead or lifeless.
These are all You poses. I’m literally saying that word a I pose. And some of these I say YOU while putting a little smile in there by thinking happy thoughts.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don’t use “HAHA” as much, but it really is just like you might think. Saying HAHA out loud as you pose creates that easy going, natural look of laughing.
Tumblr media
As you might tell, Posing is a lot about ACTING as well as knowing your body.
SO GET LOOSE. In between photos im CONSTANTLY moving around. And after a few shots im cosntantly stretching my mouth wide, making fish faces, puffing my cheeks, RELAXING my muscles so they don’t do that horrendous School Day smile that we all dread.
And again PRACTICE. Get in front of that mirror and try out a bunch of stuff. Try DIFFERENT WORDS to see what saying them dos to your expression. Try angles and poses at home, so when the camers in front of you, your ready.
Then youll be able to do more complicated stuff too.

Not cosplay, but I still wanted to share these amazing photos that I got with my fiancé at the Lantern Fest this weekend. We picked our outfits for the evening to emulate Rapunzel and Flynn (at least in color scheme and concept if nothing else) and Cassi was wearing the most beautiful Rapunzel crown made with Swarovski crystals by @angelyques on Etsy. You should check out her work!
There are so many more amazing pictures on the blog post, and if you’d be so kind as to leave a comment there, we would greatly appreciate it! ❤

I. AM. CRYING. I can’t believe how magical these photos are from our engagement shoot at the lantern festival last weekend! After getting engaged as Flynn and Rapunzel, in front of Rapunzel at Disney, it was so important that we manage to have floating lights as part of our story, and I’m so so so glad we were able to do so! Our photographers Josiah and Steph were wonderful to work with and did an incredible job capturing this moment  ❤ ❤ ❤
There are a bunch more amazing photos on the photographers’ blog! Scroll down to the bottom to see all the Lantern Festival pictures. If you’d like to do us a huge favor, please leave a comment on the blog post!! You’ll be helping us win a canvas print of these incredible pics 😍
The Lantern Fest is a traveling event around the country, and I cannot recommend it highly enough. If you have a chance to go, do!!! Pictures (as amazing as they are) do not do it justice!
btw Cassi’s amazing Rapunzel crown is made by @angelyques

Had such a great time wearing Lup and meeting all the other TAZ cosplayers at ANext yesterday! There were some great costumes there--for one, check out @voidcraftdesigns‘s awesome Garyl! It was fun to be at a relatively small meetup where there was time to really talk to everybody. Hit me up if you were there, I’d love to be friends! (And honestly, even if you weren’t there, I still want to be friends!)
Also for anyone interested, I have a TAZ-only sideblog at @itmedupree where I reblog lots of amazing stuff, and I’ll probably be posting most of my TAZ cosplay WIPs there first. Taako’s up next!

New costume! I know it’s been a while. I’m excited to be cosplaying again and see people at Anext this weekend!! Anyone else a TAZ fan? Still looking for input on the wigs above. The white one's been nixed, but it's a solid tie between the blonde and the pink. Help me pick!

Lup makeup and wig test! She’s almost done–just some hemming left to do. I can’t decide on which wig, though! I like them all for different reasons. The white and pink are more badass/sexy but the blond is fun and flirty. Which do you guys like best?
I’m so happy to have gotten her done in time to wear at Anime Next on Saturday! It feels so good to be cosplaying again. Any other TAZ fans going to be at ANext this weekend?

How to make custom lace appliques – the “Frankenlace” method
A lot of people asked for more info on how I made the appliques that decorate the bottom of Zelda’s gown. Here’s my tutorial for the whole process! This method can be used to make all kinds of applique shapes and designs if you get creative with it.
These lace appliques are made out of other lace – hence the nickname. To get started, you’ll need to collect a few lace trims to use as raw material. Look for styles that are similar or complement each other, because you’ll be combining them. This is some, but not all, of the trims I used. I bought these in the LA fabric district, but most are available at trimexpoonline.com.
Cut your lace down into smaller pieces that are more modular. Don’t cut up ALL your lace – this is just an experimentation stage, to practice rearranging the design.
Using a template of your desired shape (I made mine digitally, but you can hand draw one too) practice arranging your pieces until you find a design that suits your needs. This is not my final design in the picture – I went through several versions before I was totally happy with how it looked. You might discover that you need more lace, which is why planning and experimentation are so important. When you’re satisfied with how it looks, it’s time to start putting it all together.
You’ll need an embroidery hoop large enough to cover your whole template, plus some netting that is as close to transparent as you can find. Most generic tulle is NOT fine enough to do well with this technique – the holes are too large and the tulle stretches too much when handled. Look for netting that does not stretch or fray, if possible. Put some netting in your embroidery hoop, tightening the surface like a drum. I taped my template to a small sheet of masonite to give myself a portable work surface. I also ended up using clamps to hold the embroidery hoop to the masonite, but forgot to get a picture. This is optional, but really helps the design from shifting too much as you work.
Tools for the next step: fabric glue (other brands work too), a small paintbrush, and a water cup. I watered my glue down a little to make it easier to spread with the paintbrush. Be careful not to add TOO much water, or your glue will be too thin, not grip well, and take a long time to dry.
Working in small sections, begin gluing your lace pieces onto the netting. Start at the center and work outward, if possible. Continue until all your lace pieces are glued onto the netting.
Here’s what mine looked like with all the lace attached! At this point, I flipped the embroidery hoop over and applied a second coat of glue over the entire back of the work. The netting is so thin that you can continue to apply more glue from the backside to get a more secure grip.
Optional: add rhinestones to taste. I used E6000 for this step. Not every applique requires rhinestones, but in this case I wanted Zelda to sparkle as much as possible.
Repeat to create as many appliques as you need! Zelda has 8 along the bottom of her dress. Here’s part of my assembly line.
When you’re ready to attach the applique to your fashion fabric, trim away some of the netting along the outside, but leave any “interior” portions that help stabilize the design. I simply glued my appliques onto the silk, but I later went back and hand-stitched them down for a more secure hold. After they are properly attached to your fabric, you can VERY CAREFULLY trim away the “interior” pockets of plain netting using small scissors.
The final look of my gown, after all the appliques and trim were attached.
This method is very time consuming and requires a lot of patience and concentration – but I just love the results! I wanted to achieve the look of professionally-made applique, but without access to industrial equipment, this was the next best thing I could come up with.

The white-on-white effect is subtle, but matches the look I was going for. Photo by Vontography.
I hope this is helpful to some of you in your own costume projects. Let me know if you have any questions, and good luck!

One nice thing about being mired in School Hell? It’s “Character Building,” which I can also recycle for writing purposes. Marius is a pretty odd dude but we’ve got a hell of a lot in common - the creativity, the total lack of patience, the nightmares, the horse thing, the shifting moods, etc. And I know my recent frustrations are going to be gold when I get the time to write more of this fic.
These are a couple more shots from our mountain shoot last February. You can bet I’m going to coerce @neith-hotep out there to shoot this again sometime before Christmas. <3
Still my all-time favourite costume. I should actually grab my jousting armour and do a young!Marius shoot since it is perfect….

I accidentally disappeared from Tumblr again, but at least this time I had a good reason: I was on vacation at Disney and got engaged to the most wonderful, fabulous, amazing woman I’ve ever known! Tangled has gotten us through some rough times and it was really special to be able to incorporate it into the proposal this way. Feeling so happy and loved, this entire week has been a dream!
Our costumes are far from complete, but we worked really hard to make sure they were wearable for Mickey’s Halloween Party and I’m thrilled with how well they turned out. It made the moment extra-special for us both. ❤ We’ll be finishing them up for a full cosplay photoshoot sometime next year!
I forgot to post progress pics while we were working on these, but here they are! Disney was incredible, getting engaged was incredible, wearing Flynn and Rapunzel was incredible, my fiancé is always incredible  ❤ ❤ ❤  Can’t wait to finish these and do a full photoshoot with wigs, lanterns... hopefully a boat...
