Shokrakar and his father stood still for a moment, just staring at each other. How long had it been since they'd seen each other, a year, more? Possibly, it had been a long time, too long. Shokrakar took a deep breath and walked toward the man he called Pa and wrapped his arms around him.
As the two got closer together, it became clear that apart from both having a beard, they didn't look a like at all. Shokrakar had bright eyes, his father's were darks, Shokrakar towered above him and was bound in large muscle, they looked more like friends than relatives. Shok's father held him tightly, patting him on the back before letting him go, the hug only lasted a second.
"What are you doing here?" Shokrakar asked.
"Forgot my schedule already? You know this is prime hunting time." The man asked with a chuckle, he had a couple of rabbits hanging from his hip. "What are you doing out here?"
"We, uh, Inquisition business...you know how it is." Shokrakar lied. "Strange that you're here, were you following us?"
"Of course I was, I noticed two men with horns riding a long the path with out anyone else and thought it was weird, then I saw it was you and I haven't seen you in so long, wanted to talk to you...but you looked deep in conversation so I didn't want to interrupt the two of you, then that damn stick go in my fucking way." It was clear where Shokrakar got his need to ramble from. Shokrakar's father looked past Shokrakar and directly at Kaaras. He knew Shokrakar was in a relationship from the letters he'd sent him. "Is this...?"
"Oh! Pa...this is Kaaras." Shokrakar turned and held his hand out to Kaaras. "Kaaras, this is my Pa, Kata."
Kata smiled at Kaaras. "It's a pleasure, Inquisitor, I've heard a lot about you...nice to put a face to the name."

There was a knock at Kaaras' bedroom door, Shokrakar was already up. He always got up early in the morning, usually before the sun was even up. He slipped away from his sleeping lover and padded down the stairs, he peaked around the door to be given a letter from the messenger. Kaaras usually got a lot of mail, usually from interested nobles, some from his enemies too, and other just from people wanting to wish The Herald well. But this morning was different, this letter was for Shokrakar.
Shokrakar returned up the stairs and sat at Kaaras' desk, he used Kaaras' letter opened to open it and began to read, his frown getting deeper as his eyes followed the word, his stomach twisting a bit, shock or anger? Maybe bother. He bit into his lip and let out a frustrated sigh, glancing up at Kaaras' bed to see if he was awake yet. This was something they would need to talk about, not because it affected Kaaras, not personally anyway, but it was important to Shokrakar and he always shared important things with his Kadan.
Maybe he should go and get Kaaras a cup of tea first, yes. That was a good idea. He got up from the desk and slipped some trousers on, giving Kaaras a small kiss on the forehead before leaving to go and get some tea.

"He may be a thorn, but he's your brother...unless you want me to get rid of him?" He joked...sort of. "Wish I was an only child, I had to share my room with my brothers, can you imagine that? That many males in one tiny room, used to have regulars fights...I always won, obviously." Shokrakar winked then chuckled a little.
"Every year it felt like we had to build more and more space for us, guess that's why I'm so good with my hands and you know...working with wood...I went back a couple years ago, Pa had torn most of the extensions down, we're all grown now so they don't need the space and it was getting to hard to take care of all of it." Shokrakar smiled a little. "They just have-"
Shokrakar heard a crunch in the distance and his ears twitched. He fell completely still as he tried to listen. He slowly turned his head to see what possibly made the noise, hopefully just a deer but he doubted it. A deer would have run off and made more noise, as would most animals, the only thing that would know to stop...was a person. He held a finger to his lip and slowly began to get up, having to hold back a grunt of pain from his knees.
He stared off into the trees. "That tree isn't hiding you, you know?" He called out. "I don't know who you are but you should probably scarper off before my friend here sets you on fire."
The figure stepped out from behind the tree as he got closer, he got taller and taller...horns...a dark black beard...dark grey eyes. Shokrakar's eyes widened when the man with horns got close enough. Shokrakar took a deep, trembling breath.
"Hello, son." The figure smirked.
"Hey...Pa."

Shokrakar dismounted Sunshine and tied her up next to Atlas, giving her a pet on the nose before grabbing his supply bag and dropping it on the floor. Shokrakar looked at everything Kaaras had brought and smiled, the man sure didn't travel light but at least he was prepared. He rolled out his sleeping bag, choosing a good spot to get comfortable.
"Well, grew up in the mountains, not too far from here really, I've got six brothers and two sisters, I'm the oldest, my parents are Tal-Vashoth, I left home at sixteen to you know...get them supplies and stuff, ain't much out here except snow." He chuckled a little and took a seat on his sleeping bag.
"Probably why my favourite soup is nettle and why I think bread is a luxury, pa' taught me how to use a sword as soon as I could stand up right, I think their plan was always to have a big family but send me out to be the provider." Shokrakar shrugged as if that was a normal thing for parents to do.
"Me and ma ain't too close, never got to spend any time with here, busy with the other kids, you know? I ain't hiding nothing from you...guess...we always have other things coming up not much time to get too personal, that and you always have your tongue in my mouth." He teased. "Come on then, since we're opening up, what was my man like as a boy? Trouble? Well behaved? I know you mentioned a brother, seen him in passing, not had the chance to talk."

"Oh yeah, Ash taught me how, not easy with...y'know..." He gestured to his eye. "But I can usually take down big things without too much of an issue, not like Ash though, he can do it with his eyes closed...no joke...once saw him kill a rabbit blindfolded." Shokrakar chuckled a little.
It had been so long since he talked about his company, he wrote them letters but rarely actually talked about them. Much like Kaaras the Inquisition had become his life now, it took up all of his time and his thoughts.
"Ash taught me a lot, reading, writing, fishing, but my pa, he taught me how to survive out here, he had to or we wouldn't have lasted very long." To others, Skyhold simply sat in the Frostback Mountains, but to Shokrakar, Skyhold sat in the middle of his home.
"When I used to go and collect things by myself, branches and such for the fire, he'd mark trees in case I got lost, so I could find my way home." If a person looked close enough, some of the trees did have marks on them, not too noticeable but if you were looking for them, they were easy to find.
"That's alright, you can get the fire started whilst I hunt us something." Shokrakar rode with Kaaras to where they would set up their camp, he pulled Sunshine to a halt and looked around. "This is a good spot, should do us for the night."

"Let's take the road camp, I know we have plenty of gold but it's good to save it just in case, you never know right?" Shokrakar had found himself without any money plenty of times, getting stuck on the road and having the take odd jobs to make money to get home. The jobs were never anything too bad, but he was a merc, and those were the jobs he was used to, not a delivery boy or a black smiths assistant.
"And it could be nice, right?" He looked at Kaaras with a small smile and a shrug. "Me and you, lay under the stars? I could hunt us something, maybe a deer?" It wasn't a particularly cold night, and the sky looked clear so they didn't need to worry about getting rained on, and the mount could rest.
"And I the morning, we could go to the water and...have a dip." He winked, then gave Kaaras a gentle nudge. "I know this is a revenge mission but...it doesn't have to be only that, just me and you on the road? Could give us a glimpse of the future when the Inquisition business is done, just me and you, the open road, then one day we settle down."
Shokrakar's face seemed to light up as he talked about their future, he didn't seem worried about anything, deep down he was but he pushed those thoughts aside. He had to. Because it hurt too much to imagine what life would be like without Kaaras, that wasn't a life he wanted.

"I will have you know that I have dropped through many a ceiling in my life time! Not on purpose...but still, I did it was Grace and some dignity...and a few broken bones." Kaaras was right, that idea wouldn't work, not if they wanted to be as discreet as possible, Qunaris falling from the sky was bound to cause a disturbance.
Once the path began to clear of snow and was more dirt, he gave Sunshine a gentle nudge to get her to move faster, they had left quiet late in the day so it would be dark before they knew it. Kaaras was right, that idea wouldn't work, not if they wanted to be as discreet as possible, Qunaris falling from the sky was bound to cause a disturbance.
"You could have Andraste themselves appear from the sky and announce you as the Herald, they still wouldn't believe you are." He chuckled a little but was only half joking. "Shouldn't be too hard to find someone who needs guards right?" Hopefully some of the local taverns would have a couple of job postings, they usually did.
"You wanna pick a good spot for camp?" Shokrakar offered, wanting to give Kaaras a little control over something, he knew Kaaras would choose somewhere good and dry, he always took Shokrakar's knee condition into consideration, more so than Shokrakar himself. "Sky looks clear so the weather should hole up over night, but if it gets too cold we can keep each other warm."

Shokrakar ran his hand up and down Rei’s back, trailing along his spine. “I suppose I am just about done, and I can’t neglect you forever can I?” He smirked, then nuzzled into Reilin’s neck.
“Where should we take a break, hm?”

Shokrakar looked up from his work at the plate in Reilin’s hands. The smell of whatever the food was filled the room, making Shokrakar’s stomach growl loudly.
“I-is that for me?” He asked softly, really hoping it was.

“Just happy to see you is all.” Shokrakar leaned back in his chair, grabbed Reilin’s arm and pulled him into his lap. “My lil pumpkin,” Shokrakar wrapped his arms around Reilin’s waist and kissed his cheek, then kissed his cheek again, and again, and again.

Shokrakar perked up when Reilin returned, like an excited puppy when it’s owner came home from work. “You did indeed!” He smiled brightly.
“Hmmm...” He patted his belly. “I suppose I could make room for some more.” His bowl had been licked clean, there was no sign left of any of the bread rolls, or a grain of rice.

Shokrakar trotted down the snow covered road on the back of sunshine, his breath getting more visible and icier the futher away they got away from Skyhold. Luckily, the road out of the mountains was fairly straight forward and he knew it well, better than most.
If they moved quickly they could find a warm place to camp before nightfall. They could camp in the snow but it wasn't the best place, it was freezing, and wet, and Shokrakar was always stiff in the morning from the cold getting into his bones, which also wasn't great when travelling for a long time.
He turned his head to look at Kaaras for a moment, he hadn't thought of any plan yet, he was too busy trying to get out on the road and too his target. "Not yet, but I will." He assured Kaaras, not sure if even he believed it. "Luckily we've got a couple of weeks to figure it out on the road, huh?" Shokrakar laughed a little.
"Maybe we could, drop in through the ceiling, sneak in through the dungeons...oooo! Oh! We could pretend to be hired guards! You'd look cute as a guard." He was getting carried away. "You can wear a face cover so no one recognises you, but claim the reason is to blend in and be respectful to the party planner." Maybe a little bit too carried away, because this was becoming the actual plan.
"We just need to find a noble going to the party and offer our services."
