This is a beautifully written novel about loss, betrayal, and hope. Two girls-an ocean apart-discover their father died in a plane crash. They had no idea the other exists until after his death. They come from different worlds and cultures but are connected by their grief. This is a story written in verse and told from the POV of both sisters. It is also culturally diverse as well as LGBTQ friendly.

Ugh. I am usually a big fan of Megan Miranda but I struggled with this one. I had trouble connecting with the characters, it was slow moving, and I just wasn’t that invested in the mystery. I had to make myself finish reading this one. It has some great reviews and Miranda is a great writer so maybe it was just wrong book, wrong time.

A coming of age story that has an impending sense of doom right from the beginning. Sydney is spending the summer with her famous actress mother and has reservations about it. The mother, Lila, is more concerned with keeping her new sketchy boyfriend happy rather than spend time with her daughter. This book oozes tension and we are just waiting for the other shoe to drop. Sydney deals with what many women deal with-the uncomfortable looks, leers, and remarks from men. We see how Sydney tries to process and deal with these things and how they impact her.

This is my third book by John Marrs and I have to say he has yet to disappoint me. This book is straight up crazy cakes! It is dark, twisty, disturbing and uncomfortable at times. Laura seems to have the perfect life. She volunteers at a suicide hotline but her motives are questionable at best. Y’all there are twists galore and horrible characters that you will love to root against. It is a book that you will devour.

I love the writing style of Paris. It just sucks me in, flows easily, and keeps me completely engaged. This story is set at a party that has been twenty years in the making. Livia has thrown herself a huge 40th party to make up for not having a wedding. We see alternating view points from her and Adam, her husband. They are both withholding secrets from each other about their daughter, Marnie. Some of their motives may be hard to believe at times. This book is different than the others by Paris. It is gut wrenching family drama that consumes you.

A mall setting in the 90’s with a treasure hunt involving Cabbage Patch Kids-I mean hello-sign me up stat! This was a coming of age story. Cassie’s life takes several major detours over the course of one summer. She must figure out what is most important and at what cost. Don’t get me wrong-this was a fun read. However, I feel like something was missing that I just can’t put my finger on. But if you are looking for a dose of nostalgia this is a totally awesome book!

I wish I had this book when I was in high school. Greer is ashamed of her body-aren’t we all? Her reason is she has very large breasts. She is uncomfortable and self conscious. She does everything she can to hide under baggie clothes. This is a wonderfully written story about body image, self-acceptance and finding your self-worth. It is about fierce female friendships. I loved this book so much and can’t recommend it enough. Amazing debut from Laura Zimmermann. I can’t wait to read more from her. So good!!!

A beautiful wedding is set to take place on a remote island off the coast of Ireland between a reality tv star and a fabulous magazine publisher. There are plenty of guests with plenty of secrets. When one of the wedding attendees is murdered we have no idea who could have done it. It seems they all have motives-so many red herrings. The plot and character backgrounds are expertly woven together. Also wonderful atmospheric setting.

Blood witches, casters and elementals, oh my! Our MC is Hannah-an elemental witch. She lives in Salem and has issues keeping her identify a secret. All female love triangle, witch hunters, and mystery galore. This book gets darker as it progress and while much of it is light and easy there are some tough scenes. This bookhas some great twists and an awesome cast of mostly LGBTQ characters. I am looking forward to the sequel.

I love Sarah Andersen and have all of her other books. Her art is so fun and relatable. In Fangs, a werewolf and a vampire fall in love. We see them in their everyday lives together and it is just awww! We watch as their relationship progresses and they love and support each other despite their difference and shortcoming. This is a simple little love story and it is perfect for those that enjoy dark humor, good puns, and of course, all things spooky.
Thank you to NetGalley, Andrew McMeel Publishing, and the fabulous Sarah Andersen for this eARC in exchange for an honest review!

After Maggie’s father passes away she inherits Baneberry Hall. She lived there briefly as a child until her family fled in the night because of odd activity. Her father, an author, wrote a bestseller, Horror House about the events that occurred while they were there. Maggie remembers nothing from her time there and goes back to renovate the house and find answers. The story unfolds in alternating chapters of present day and the Horror House Book. I loved this book. I wanted to devour it but didn’t want it to end. Amityville vibes, great twists, a ghost story and murder mystery all rolled into one.

This story is based on a cold case murder of a teen girl, Eve, from 1999 that is reopened because of new evidence. Her former best friend, Maggie, is the one now investigating the case. The story is told in different timelines and different POVs. We get to see the story told from Maggie, Eve, and Nola, Eve’s sister. There are several well done red herrings and the mystery aspect is pretty great. This book does have disturbing parts that could be triggers.

Lottie is murdered and her friend Anthony, has borrowed her laptop. He doesn’t understand who could possibly have killed her. Anthony starts exploring the laptop and finds videos recorded in the year before Lottie died. It seems she has treated the videos as an online diary of sorts. She reveals secrets that Anthony now must figure out if they were worth killing for. It sounds like a good thriller but something was just off for me-perhaps the writing style. I wasn’t invested in the characters and just didn’t feel the need to read quickly to find out the truth. Not bad but not great. Thanks to Netgalley and Black Cat Ink Press for the arc.

“There are only two kinds of people in this crazy world of ours-those who like dogs . . . and assholes.” Sign me up for this series! Mace trains cadaver dogs and helps the Chicago PD. He gets a new yellow lab, Elvira or Vira for short, and trains her. Her skills go beyond anything he has experienced. The two of them then must deal with a serial killer that has his sights set on Mace himself. I loved the dog angle of this book. There are several with their own personalities and quirks. This is the first in a new series and I look forward to more with these characters.
Thank you to Minotaur and NetGalley for the arc.

I read Camino Island almost three years ago and enjoyed it. I was excited for a sequel. After watching the King and Grisham chat online. This fell so short. We see very little of the quirky island characters that were in the first book. The “mystery” was lackluster. It felt like it was just all over the place. There was little to no character development. I haven’t read a lot of Grisham but this one just missed the mark for me. I struggled to finish.

Elliott lives with his cat in a beautiful Victorian home he remodeled. He teaches underprivileged children science through his non-profit. The only thing he is missing is a family. He meets Gemma and yay bliss! Then her family moves in for a few weeks while they get on their feet. All hell breaks loose. This one is fast paced with some good twists. Also some cringeworthy moments. Hopefully, it will also make you appreciate your in-laws. This title is available on Kindle Unlimited.

Emily’s life has hit rock bottom. No job, no money, and nowhere to live. Her old boss offers the opportunity to move to a secluded home in France to be an assistant for his wife and daughter. It seems like a dream come true. The homes and landscape are amazing at first then the cracks start to show-atmospheric to be sure. Solid read but there wasn’t the gasp out loud moment I love. Thanks to Netgalley and Minotaur Books for the ARC.
