Hey, love your art :) I was wondering if you could give me a tip on how to draw body diversity/proportions/exaggeration without seeming like I'm caricaturizing the wrong things or overemphasizing weight/height and being rude. Again, love your art, smooches!

I have a lot to learn myself! But I also want to preface this by saying that everyone has a different threshold for how stylized art can be before it crosses the line to a hurtful or offensive depiction. Drawing bodies in a respectful manner is of course incredibly important but it's worth keeping in mind that it isn't possible to please everyone!

I try to observe people around me in real life -- on the bus, passersby, etc. -- to get a more genuine sense of diversity. I think that art and photos on social media tend to be biased towards a particular look, and art can maybe depict people with certain features or body types in only a few specific ways that don't really accurately reflect how varied they can look in real life. If diversity isn't really reflected around you, I'm a huge fan of stock photo sources like nonscandinavia.com/originals or "candid" photographers like instagram.com/earthsworld/?hl=en. I think that when you pay more attention to (or even do studies of!) more real people, you also start gaining a better grasp of what portrayals of people would feel more authentic and accurate.

It's really important to listen to people from specific groups talk about how they want or don't want to be depicted, and more than that, look at how they choose to draw and stylize themselves -- how are they comfortable with being exaggerated in their own art? Listening when people talk about/doing your research on offensive visual caricatures to avoid is also key.

Also, I recommend Morpho's book on Fat and Skin Folds!

LMAOO the reason I only do digital art is because I'm too impatient for traditional art supplies. I haven't damaged my tablet or laptop but I have mishandled many paints and pens over the years
