When South Africa dismantled apartheid, it did not end with the expulsion of all white South Africans. They became part of the new South Africa, just without the criminal discriminatory oligarchic powers the apartheid goverment had. When Bolivia recognized its indigenous heritage and became a plurinational state, it did not mean that people of European descent were expelled in masse. It meant the recognition of the previously discriminated indigenous and mestizo people of Bolivia and the beginning of a path of integration and revalidation.

What I mean is that it's ridiculous to think that decolonization inherently means mass suffering and relocation, that's what colonization does. Decolonization is recognizing the crimes of colonization, but more importantly, material, political and social steps to give power and self-determination to the exploited native people who were victims of colonialism and imperialism.

In multicultural societies, you don't go like in that Peter Griffin meme with a skin tone chart and saying 'well, you go back to Europe, you go back to Africa, you stay here'. You build a new society on the paradigm of dignity for exploited people and equality under the law. People are acting like this is some sort of fantastic utopia instead of real initiatives that were done in living memory, with successes and failures, as all such initiatives have. One must ask why are some so insistent that multicultural societies can't thrive, especially when for most of history, societies were indeed like that. Consider why you think like that.

imagine you're yasmin khan right. and one year ago you had a bittersweet breakup with the woman you had unending devotion to while she was chronically emotionally unavailable. and you found a stopping point in this relationship when you both knew that she would never be able to be in a normal committed relationship or be involved in your home life the same way you're involved in hers. so you go home and you live your life for a year and you start a group therapy with all her other exes because good lord that was a lot.

and then you find out that your ex is now a middle aged gay man living in chiswick with his best friend and her family and he's normal and happy. and for him this all happened in the span of a few days. wouldn't you start snapping necks.

Launch Day

It's Launch Day folks! If you can please consider sharing or backing my campaign to get my firs original table top game off the ground to swim in success!

The aim of See Creatures is to build complete animals out of two decks, "tops and Bottoms", and "middles" - solo cards are shuffled into both decks to keep things spicy! You can play this game strategically or for fun, as a group activity or as a solitaire game, and players are encouraged to draw on the box with the metallic marker provided for posterity, or to keep track of high scores! An adaptable, bright game full of jokes and pop culture references, I hope See Creatures brings you as much oy as it has for me.

A little comic for National Coming Out Day! Not meant to encapsulate 100% of the spectrum of people’s experiences, just a little chat based on my personal findings :). Change is ok! (and so is not changing, of course!)

the thing is there's like, a point of oversaturation for everything, and it's why so many things get dropped after a few minutes. and we act like millennials or gen z kids "have short attention spans" but... that's not quite it. it's more like - we did like it. you just ruined it.

capitalism sees product A having moderate success, and then everything has to come out with their "own version" of product A (which is often exactly the same). and they dump extreme amounts of money and environmental waste into each horrible simulacrum they trot out each season.

now it's not just tiktokkers making videos; it's that instagram and even fucking tumblr both think you want live feeds and video-first programming. and it helps them, because videos are easier to sneak native ads into. the books coming out all have to have 78 buzzwords in them for SEO, or otherwise they don't get published. they are making a live-action remake of moana. i haven't googled it, but there's probably another marvel or starwars something coming out, no matter when you're reading this post.

and we are like "hi, this clone of project A completely misses the point of the original. it is soulless and colorless and miserable." and the company nods and says "yes totally. here is a different clone, but special." and we look at clone 2 and we say "nope, this one is still flat and bad, y'all" and they're like "no, totally, we hear you," and then they make another clone but this time it's, like, a joyless prequel. and by the time they've successfully rolled out "clone 89", the market is incredibly oversaturated, and the consumer is blamed because the company isn't turning a profit.

and like - take even something digital like the tumblr "live streaming" function i just mentioned. that has to take up server space and some amount of carbon footprint; just so this brokenass blue hellsite can roll out a feature that literally none of its userbase actually wants. the thing that's the kicker here: even something that doesn't have a physical production plant still impacts the environment.

and it all just feels like it's rolling out of control because like, you watch companies pour hundreds of thousands of dollars into a remake of a remake of something nobody wants anymore and you're like, not able to afford eggs anymore. and you tell the company that really what you want is a good story about survival and they say "okay so you mean a YA white protagonist has some kind of 'spicy' love triangle" and you're like - hey man i think you're misunderstanding the point of storytelling but they've already printed 76 versions of "city of blood and magic" and "queen of diamond rule" and spent literally millions of dollars on the movie "Candy Crush Killer: Coming to Eat You".

it's like being stuck in a room with a clown that keeps telling the same joke over and over but it's worse every time. and that would be fine but he keeps fucking charging you 6.99. and you keep being like "no, i know it made me laugh the first time, but that's because it was different and new" and the clown is just aggressively sitting there saying "well! plenty of people like my jokes! the reason you're bored of this is because maybe there's something wrong with you!"

On this day, 23 April 1979, Aotearoa/New Zealand born teacher and socialist Clement Blair Peach was hit by police on an anti-Nazi demonstration in Southall, Middlesex, possibly with an illegal weapon, and later died. Peach had joined thousands of people in an area with a large south Asian and Sikh population to protest against a meeting of the far-right National Front in the town hall. After he was hit he was taken into a nearby house which an ambulance was called. He was then taken to Ealing Hospital with an extradural haematoma, and died shortly after midnight. A subsequent police investigation found that one of six members of the notoriously violent Special Patrol Group was responsible. The officers’ lockers were searched, and illegal weapons discovered like a lead cosh. The officers also quickly cleaned their uniforms and changed their appearances after the attack, and several of them lied to investigators. As a result of the deception, the guilty party could not be identified. The investigator did recommend that three officers who had conspired and lied should be charged with obstruction and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice, but the director of public prosecutions appointed by the Labour government declined to prosecute them. Officials refused to hold the inquest into Peach’s death in front of a jury, and despite multiple witnesses testifying to the police attack, the inquest returned a verdict of “death by misadventure”. The coroner disregarded witness testimony which he deemed to be from people who were socialist, or who were Sikh, and according to him “did not have experience of the English system” to be reliable. Since at least the 1930s, police in the UK routinely have helped neo-Nazis organise meetings and demonstrations, attacking and arresting anti-fascists who protest against them.
