Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end!!!!!
He knew he was going to die tomorrow. He knew his enemies would come for him and there would be no time to say goodbye.
He was going to MISS them.
He knew they would miss him.
Can you imagine knowing you would die tomorrow, and nobody else knew or understood? Wouldn’t you want to touch every person you loved? Share a moment of intimacy and care? Be close to them? Serve them? Give them something to remember, to hold on to?
I feel like we can fall into this trap of thinking about everything Jesus did as part of a carefully calculated plan where everything is an object lesson devoid of human feeling. But he loved them! He loved them til the end! The washing of the feet is full of such tenderness and love and sorrow and intimacy I can’t even really handle it.

Arthur knows that Merlin doesn't go to the tavern because Arthur knows that Merlin doesn't drink much, and especially not without Arthur there. Merlin has like a trauma response to drinking alcohol after years of being Arthur's poison tester (at Merlin's own insistance) and thus getting poisoned. Merlin tells Gaius not to say he went to the tavern because he knows Arthur would know it's a lie, but Gaius doesn't connect the dots and does it anyway because he's a petty old queen, and alarm bells instantly ring in Arthur's head and like the dialouge is all the same as the show, except they both know that Merlin didn't go to the tavern. Arthur is very releived that Merlin wouldn't try to lie to his face about actually being there, but would still like to know where he was. 'oh merlin went to the tavern' 'Oh? Well, who'd he go with?' 'Uh. No one. He went by himself.' '....No he fucking didn't. Where is Merlin' ykyk

I was talking with my dad recently & we got on the topic of People Thinking They Can't Do Things, and like, he is at his core a well-intentioned person who genuinely wants the best for others, but he has definitely internalized some harmful ideas a la "anyone can do anything, the only thing stopping them is their own attitude". so I was like. I see where you're coming from, but let me tell you a story.
last year, I worked with 10 year olds- many of whom had never really spent time outdoors- in an outdoor education program where they came to spend a whole week doing shit outside in nature. the top two scariest experiences for these kids were 1) very tall metal tower, and 2) walking outside at night in the dark with no flashlights.
I tried a lot of different things to persuade them all to join me for each experience: I presented it with enthusiasm and passion, I did physical demonstrations and scientific explanations to help them understands how safe it was, I voiced my absolute commitment to their safety, I invited them to brainstorm ways to help each other and themselves feel safe, etc.
generally I always had at least 2-3 kids out of about 10 who opted out, or if they did join me, would spend the entire experience crying and freaking out. when it was over, they would conclude that even though they did not die- or even get hurt- it was so scary that it wasn't worth it and they never wanted to do it again.
then I changed the question I asked. instead of asking them to tell me whether they could do it or couldn't do it, I asked them to raise their hand for one of three options:
You can definitely do this.
It will be hard or scary or uncomfortable, but you can try to do this.
It will definitely be too hard, scary, or uncomfortable, and you cannot or should not try to do this.
suddenly, almost nobody was opting out of these experiences.
they would try, even if they were scared, because they know that being scared didn't necessarily mean that they couldn't do it at all. and more importantly, they knew that if they needed to stop, that was an option; they weren't trapped in their decision to try.
and the real takeaway here, for me, is in the nuance: people need to be able to challenge themselves and to be uncomfortable in order to grow, and people need to be able to opt out in order for opting in to be a safe option.

"you all find yourselves in a tavern..." is too cliche as a way to start session 1. instead, use "so four adventurers walk into a bar..." and thereby make the entire campaign an incredibly drawn-out leadup to a punchline at the very end
Ironically, the punchline is ruined because everyone is, in fact, a monk.

(while exploring a haunted temple, our Shar-worshiping Cleric found a book dedicated to a different god)
Cleric: I'm gonna stare at it judgementally.
DM: Roll for Intimidation.
Cleric: (wheezing) that's a 5
DM: You get the sense that the book judges you back.
Cleric: Well now I have self-esteem issues.

In my experience if youre calling in sick because youre actually too sick to work you should just be completely, brutally, and utterly honest about it on the phone. Because you may not think that theyll accept it as a good enough reason and that youll have to lie and exaggerate like you do for bs call ins but trust me when i say its probably not bs if its putting a grown adult out of commission for the day
This goes doubly so if the reason you cant work is usually considered "embarrassing." Nothing compares to getting asked why you cant come in today, saying "my IBS is flaring up so bad that i havent left my bathroom in an hour" and hearing a brief pause followed by "...do you want to use one of your paid sick days?"
Yeah, none of you are going to question that. What are you gonna do, make me shit myself on the clock? Thats what i thought

"It's canon, [Grounder's] character is a war criminal. He has one count of chemical weapon use, one count of assault on a medic/medical facility, and two counts yet undetermined."

"everybody hates me" factoid actually just a statistical error. The average person doesn't hate you, especially not your friends. You, a person who sits in your room experiencing self loathing every day, are an outlier adn should not have been counted.
