the moment sunoo saw sunghoon tackle jake down to the ground, he knew things weren't going to end well and jake would be a mess if it ruined his chances to ever become captain of the football team.

he sent his last tweet before running over and seeing jay and heeseung make attempts at trying to get them both to stop. however, sunghoon was persistent. he was squated over jake's torso, attempting to separate jake's arm to land a punch straight to his cheek.

"dude get off me!" jake had no intentions to fight sunghoon, even if he wanted to. he figured that all it would give him is a week's probation and a bad tally in mingyu's notebook.

"what? scared?" sunghoon taunted. maintaining his position until he finally managed to land a swing at jake's lower jaw.

sunoo stood on the side, his eyes flickering between the two on the ground and their friends who made poor attempts at stopping the fight.

"park sunghoon! sim jaeyun!" every body turned their eyes to mingyu's furious eyes. yet, sunghoon could only focus himself on you, who happened to be speaking with mingyu only seconds prior.

"what is the meaning of this?" the two stayed quiet until sunoo went in to at least save jake from punishment.

"sunghoon started fighting and i swear all jake did was try to protect himself!"

"park. sim. locker room." you only stood silently and saw the two boys walk away. figuring something else happened, you approached jay, a good friend of jake.

"you won't lie to me right? tell me what this was about." jay only sighed and looked back at you.

"sunghoon got mad and just threw jake down mid way through practice. so if anything, don't be mad at jake."

"please, it's only because jake started provoking him." heeseung scoffed before approaching, "if anything blame jake."

you could feel the tension rising between jay and heeseung, deciding to drop the subject before they too began fighting. mingyu could use less problems than what he already had.

jake and sunghoon stood patiently as mingyu paced back and forth between the room. all jake hoped for was to get off free while sunghoon just wished for any form of mercy.

"listen. I get the two of you have some sort of petty rivalry, but fighting during practice is unacceptable! here i am bragging to yn about our team and she comes in on you acting like children!? you're lucky i got there in time before you did something stupid." mingyu pinched his nose briefly before gazing upon sunghoon.

"park. you're on suspension for the week. sim you're suspended for two days. now go get cleaned up before i decide to remove you from captain tryouts." they rushed out of the office, tripping over the equipment as they reached for the door.

jake huffed in annoyance, how could he be punished when it wasn't even him fighting back?

outside, you leaned against the wall waiting with yunjin, jay and sunoo. both jake and sunghoon noticed your figure and the small bag you held between your fingers.

"waiting for me babe?" sunghoon smirks, and leans closer to you, lowering himself to maintain eye contact. displeased, and with the intention to piss him off, you incline your body forward to his ear.

"you're delusional park." it's your turn to wear a proud smile, walking past him and instead coming forward to jake.

"let's head out hm jakey?" even jake was surprised to hear your sudden nickname, but he plays it off successfully when he wraps an arm around your shoulder.

sunghoon's smirk quickly falters, and all the while sunoo, jay and yunjin stand back thinking:

this is gonna end so badly.

contrary to his initial belief, you were popular among his year prior to your brief romance with sunghoon. you'd been a part of student counsel and have written for the school's newspaper. all the football team was aware of your name, including himself.

"uhh keeho, you know where i can find yn? it's kind of urgent." keeho became confused as to why jake would want to see you; he didn't even know he knew your name.

"she's probably just in her writing club."

"thanks man" jake gives him a friendly pat before rushing to the writing room, finding you leaving with your friend yunjin.

"park yn!" every body in the club followed jake's figure who rushed to your side.

"can i borrow you for a second?" you hesitantly agreed, telling yunjin to head on without you.

"what is it?"

"i heard about your break up with sunghoon." at the mention of the boy's name, you got ready to turn your heel before he stopped you.

"listen first will you? i know he cheated on you so im here to offer you a deal." with questioning eyes, you looked back at him.

"im listening."

"you and i have one thing in common. and that's our dislike of park sunghoon right ? so i come to offer you a revenge plan." he grabbed a paper from his backpack and handed it you to read.

"the deal is to just flirt a bit and make everyone, especially sunghoon think something is going on. no strings attached." his paper had been detailed, outlining what the both of you would be consenting to.

"whats in it for you?" you asked, wondering why he would offer such thing in the first place.

"easy. try outs for a new captain are coming up in the next weeks and i need to throw sunghoon off his track. we both win."

although you wanted to get back at sunghoon, you weren't sure if cooperating with his rival was the best idea. your hesitancy was showing and jake needed to convince you. to his luck, sunghoon came into your line of sight from afar, eyes trained on jake who stood in front of you.

"deal." you smiled, adding fuel to sunghoon's fire as you brought jake in for a hug.

maybe you were petty, but hey, revenge is a dish best served cold.

jihoon was always a particular individual. it was one of the reasons he'd manage to wiggle into your little heart when you met back in middle school. - but currently you were wishing keeho would strap the boy down.

"jihoon. phone. now." with your palm stretched, he reluctantly handed it over.

"we can't have you do something stupid. we already have donghyun for that." donghyun only gave you a stare - why were you calling him out ?

"yn. you need to sit down for a bit. all you've done is to pretend to be okay!" yunjin was getting stressed. in all the years that she has known you, she'd never seen you in such a state of coldness.

"I'm not giving him the satisfaction to see me cry. I just -" danielle only pulled you into a hug before you let go. tears falling down your eyes endlessly as you attempted to calm down.

"im gonna order some food." you gave keeho a small smile: thankful that he had somehow become a bit more level headed the rest. he took a hold of jihoon, dragging him out to calm down.

"ill take this one with me"

but keeho learned it would be a mistake when he opened the door to see who was heading their way. sunghoon, accompanied by heeseung and jungwon.

"get lost sunghoon. trust me." keeho threatened, maintaining his eye sight on jihoon who had fumes resting on top of his head.

"i don't need your permission to talk to her." sunghoon responded, pushing past him while keeho held down jihoon.

"yah! yunjin!" at the call of her name, she left yn with danielle and donghyun, only to see sunghoon by the porch.

"nows not the time sunghoon. just leave please, she doesn't need this." yunjin was maintaining her posture, not exactly happy to see her own ex boyfriend standing behind sunghoon.

"yunjin? what's going on?" you didn't even process their surroundings to notice him standing in your home.

"get lost sunghoon"

"no! I'm here to talk to you, it's not what you think."

"leave, i don't have anything to say" you turned around and tried to head back before sunghoon took hold of you wrist.

"are you crazy? you're hurting me!" jihoon, who had until now had been successfully detained, freed himself from keeho's grip.

"she said to let her go you asshole" jihoon forced himself between the two- gripping onto sunghoon's collar.

"don't do something stupid jihoon." danielle reminded him with yunjin pulling you to the side. he reluctantly let him go, pushing down whatever urges he had to hurt him there and then.

"let's leave. she's not worth it anyways." heeseung and jungwon couldn't even save their friend when they saw him land on the floor, blood now dripping from his nose. on the other side, stood donghyun with a bit of sunghoon's blood on his fist.

"don't make me drag you out. and you," donghyun looked over at heeseung, "you should also leave or you're next. jungwon can stay." he brushed past them into the kitchen where he searched for a rag.

you didn't spare sunghoon a glance and neither did yunjin as she followed you into the kitchen. in the mean time, sunghoon and his company left.

"you okay?" you asked, taking an empty cloth to clean off the blood.

"im sorry for punching him, but i wasn't going to let him speak like that to you. you and yunjin deserve better." yunjin only smiles pulling the both of you into a hug.

"come on, let's go eat. im starving." they got up and you followed behind them.

if you'd learn anything from today, it was one thing: you'd make sunghoon pay. no matter what.

you had known seungmin since the age of two.

his family had moved into the home next to yours when they came over on a sunny day to introduce themselves. his beady eyes almost frightened you, but when he offered the cookies he was holding, you began to let go of your mother's hand.

similar to your story with sunoo, you easily became attached to seungmin. he was cute, giggly, and sweet. and most important, he was the boy you fell in love since the first grade when he gave you a bandaid after falling off the play ground.

of course, you weren't sure what you were meant to do with these feelings. your young age could simply not the understand the meaning of love in that instance.

by the time sunoo joined along, the three of you became attached to the hip. it was almost impossible to see one of you without the other and such expectations continued into freshman year of high school.

"i can't believe sunghoon hyung ditched us for that boy from australia!" seungmin wined, attempting to steal your cookie from your bag.

"he's fallen for the smile, but I can't blame him. look at him!" you exclaimed, admiring his visuals.

"go away with your jake fanclub yn!" sunoo teased, before noticing the upset look on seungmin. the bell rang ending the lunch period but before you could leave, seungmin pulled you to the side, asking you to meet him later.

that was the day he confessed to you.

"can you believe im finally dating seungmin!" you glanced at sunghoon who was just on his phone before throwing the pillow at his jaw.

"yah sunghoon! can't you hear me?" he only glanced momentarily before continuing to message jake.

it had been three months since the both of you got together. aside from more intimate forms of contact, nothing much had changed in your dynamic.

it was the happiest you had ever been.

but happiness can only go so far because you never expected seungmin to break up with you and leave unexpectedly.

it was the first time sunghoon had seen you in such conditions and it was then that he promised to himself to save you from a heart break.

being stubborn, you insisted on getting a response from seungmin and even took the liberty of going to his home where a big for sale sign mocked you.

you should have known better when you saw seungmin standing next to felix as you opened the front door. his nervous smile also taunted you and your brain did the one thing it new best, run.

sunghoon couldn't even process anything when you had already left his line of sight and it worried felix who stood oblivious at your reaction. on the other hand, seungmin tried running after you before being stopped by your brother.

you knew it'd be too easy to hide in the local cafe or even the dog shelter you visited, opting to run to a random convenience store.

while scrolling the shelves, you didn't notice the boy who was standing at the end of the isle. he noticed your presence first handing you the brand that you were likely searching for.

"im assuming you came for this?" you glance up and find jake extending his hand with your favorite ramen brand. normally, you'd be excited to see the man of your dreams, but today was different.

the moment your eyes met his, you broke down in the middle of isle, covering your eyes with the packet of ramen. jake, worried, pulled you in for a hug and softy patted your back to calm you down.

"its seungmin isn't it?" he confirmed, and only continued to hold you in silence.

when you finally calmed down, he paid for your ramen and sat with you by a table in the convenience store.

"thanks." you opened the container and took a bite while looking at the window.

"what happened?"

"seungmin. he's back. and he's friends with felix so when he came over, seeing his face brought back things I didn't know." jake only nodded, recalling the incident with seungmin.

although for everyone you had met only knew you as the girl head over heels for jake, before him it was seungmin. your first love.

"oh my god, I forgot to call my brother back, he must be worried sick." You felt guilty realizing you had left sunghoon to deal with it.

"come on, ill take you home." you accept his invitation and blankly stare at the picture in his car, taking notice it was a picture of the three of you with seungmin. you weren't sure why the picture was there; it was taunting you.

"yn! where were you, you had me so worried that even sunoo and i went searching for you." sunghoon hugs you and his eyes follow to jake who stands behind you.

"go in, ill be there in a bit." you turn back and give jake a quick hug and thank you before turning to head inside.

"thanks for taking care of her. i don't think there's any person better to be there with her now that seungmin is back."

"that's what best friends are for right?" jake clarifies and receives a smile from sunghoon.

"uh I think my mom made some extra dinner, and she'd be glad to see you."

"sure, why not."

sure, sunghoon still had some hatred for the boy, but at the end he knows jake is the boy who saved your heart. and your life.

with his head in the clouds, jake had not been himself in the last two weeks. his aim was worsening and frankly his coach was on his ass for not being the same soccer super star he is.

jake sim was not himself.

he was set on redeeming himself and his first start was breaking up with hyena, the girl he couldn't stand by any means.

yeah, she was nice or whatever, but she was too controlling and considered herself the best in the world. according to jake, she was wrong.

when jay's offer to go to their normal joint comes by, he takes it without question. he plans to enjoy himself and maybe solicit jays help on the way, or well that was the plan anyway.

the smell of old grease hit his nostrils when he hears the familiar bell, reminding him of every time he'd stop by with his normal group, including sunghoon.

they head to a booth in the back, expecting it to be disoccupied by how hidden the spot was. but considering a new set of nerves was starting to build, he'd have to think again.

jake was welcomed to his bestfriend hanging with you, felix, and your other friends. sunoo could only glance at him while delivering you a look.

"what are you guys doing here?" jay asks directly.

"ahh we came here to introduce felix to the spot, he's been wanting to get familiar with things." you respond signaling the others to make room for the both of them.

jay is the first to sit down and at noticing jake's hesitancy, sunghoon flicks his arm to get his attention to join them.

this was progress and although he'd expect to enjoy a normal conversation, it was quiet until sunoo and riki lightened the mood by sharing stories about all the men yujin and bahiyyih have liked.

yes, things were awkward, but at least he'd prefer to be back to square one than square zero.

"park yn open this door right now!" you could hear sunoo's voice from upstairs and walked down in your sweatpants and baggy t-shirt.

"im coming drama queen!" you shout back and open your door to find your four friends standing with ice cream in hand.

"we already ordered mcdonalds, so this is a break up special!" you smile slightly and watch as your friends pack into the living room as yujin lays out blankets and pillows.

"do you guys think I'm dumb for loving jake?" You ask while picking at the ice cream.

"a little? but yn, we know it's not easy to get over him like that. remember bahiyyih and her crush on our senior soobin?"

"ew riki! don't mention that." she hits riki playfully and sunoo reaches out for your hand.

"were not going to say it's easy to move on even if he has a girlfriend now BUT we will support you. so from now on, just do whatever what makes you happy."

he was right. sunoo was always right.

you wanted to hate jake, but he wasn't entitled to like you back. you were deep in thought when a knock on the door broke the silence. thinking it was sunghoon, you opened it without question and saw felix standing with a tub in hand next to sunghoon.

"look who came over yn." sunghoon comes in and finds the answer to his question has he sees the dry tears on your cheek with ice cream in hand.

"You posted that you were sad so I brought brownies! I made them myself may I add." in response, you gave felix a hug and thanked him while skipping with the brownies ushering him to sit with your friends.

"im guessing you know about jake?" You silently nod and begin to recap felix on everything despite knowing him only two days.

"that explains why sunghoon punched him then. but like your friends said, we got your back." He gives you another hug and you're interrupted again by the door.

"huh?" jay and jungwon stand nervously with some flowers in hand.

"we came to check up on you." they led themselves in and joined the pit forming in your living room.

thank the universe for this moment, otherwise you'd be for sure crying over the boy you think lost.
