In-person date ideas

Find a theme you're both interested in and go to a museum/exhibition (i.e. if you're both into Star Wars, find a SW exhibition; or if you're both into dinosaurs, find a museum that displays dinosaur bones)

Do the cliche dates (because they really work!) - coffee date, dinner date, bubble tea date, movie night, etc.

Find a park/forest/green area you've never been to and go for a walk together

Try a class or workshop together

Stay in. A date can be as simple as that. The act of choosing to spend intimate (not necessarily sexy wink-wink), one on one time together can be a date too.

Find the weirdest museum/exhibition and go together. Wash it down with a coffee afterwards to discuss what you've witnessed

See a play or a concert together

Get involved in each other's hobbies

Google 'date ideas checklist', find one you both like and do all those dates

Celebrate birthdays, holidays, achievements together privately

Set up a date for sexual intimacy (or just physical intimacy if you're ace)

Long distance date ideas

Have dinner together on a video call

Same as above, but order food for each other

Play video games together while on a call (even better if you're playing together online)

Same as above, except set up a date together in-game (i.e. exploring a region together, completing missions together)

Movie night: watch Netflix, Disney+ or YouTube together

Get involved in each other's hobbies: a bit more difficult with distance, but not impossible (get creative, take pictures and videos to share with each other later, call each other even if you're silent because i.e. you're trying to get into meditation or yoga)

Attend an online event together (i.e. a class, a seminar, etc) and then call each other afterwards to talk about it

Long distance date idea review #1: DOVEY

Rating: 4.5/10

Dovey is a website where you can go on virtual dates with your long distance partner or bestie. There are multiple dates you can go on, and several tasks you can partake in (such as drawing challenges, puzzles, couple's questions, etc).

The review:

While it sounds and actually looks good too, and the website runs relatively smoothly, it's a rather sad attempt at replacing real dates. The questions are rather infantile sometimes, and the puzzles less than challenging. It feels no different to gaming together, except it's less entertaining.

Is it worth a try? Absolutely. As long as you don't have too high expectations.

Admittedly though, it can be loads of fun if you don't take it too seriously and mess around. I kept losing my way in the mazes, Benny had to be restrained from leaving graffitis on every single wall. We figured out how to yeet coins in the hedge maze and that the zombies in the Halloween maze don't actually eat your brain.

Will we use it regularly? Press x to doubt. Benny could be persuaded to return once more to try the Halloween maze date, but neither of us are too obsessed with dovey.

Is it fun? It really is, especially for the first time while you figure out the game mechanics. Try not to take it too seriously and you'll be in for a lot of laughs.
