THE MOON MAID, a fantasy novel by American writer Edgar Rice Burroughs (1875-1950) was written in three parts. Part 1 was published in 1922 by Argosy’s All-Story Weekly with a great cover by P.J. Monahan. [Part 2, THE MOON MEN, originally titled UNDER THE RED FLAG was later retitled THE MOON MEN. Part 3 was titled THE RED HAWK.] It is considered by some to be his finest work.

The jabberwocky are the apex predators of local Hyperspace. They are enormous creatures, nearly a kilometer in length when fully grown and can even pose a threat to steelships and juvenile boojums.
A hunting jabberwock will lunge out of hyperspace at range before attempting to weaken its target with streams of exotic particles from its lower jaws. Once it feels there is little threat to itself the jabberwock will bind its prey in its coils, stinging with its barbels and twisting its body to slash away with its asymetrical claws.
While Jabberwocky originally had little interest in our spacetime layers the weak points left in the wake of hyperspace engines has drawn their attention.
