The stigma of self-inserts is so harmful to the creative process. Relax. Admit it. Everything you make is derivative of yourself, always, no exceptions. You can turn the mirror into tinier and tinier shards or you can make it as big as you want to reflect as much as you want. At the end of the day it's always going to show you inside of it. Pretending otherwise is stupid.

I was typing an entire post about food issues and why I don't like wet food, until I remembered that unlike in Dutch, 'wet food' has a specific meaning in English. Just straight up deleted everything bc all I could see myself as was

it turns out that grian, gem, and pearl’s fates were intrinsically linked in their latest episodes.
or rather, their povs happened to overlap just enough, such that if one person mishandling their time took clips from all three povs and pieced them together, you could end up with a near complete story of grian and gem’s mail exchange.
(transcript under the cut. gosh not fun to do)
grian: we’re gonna go and send this to gem, ‘cause we might as well use this system that we’ve got now, so- hold on, hold on, maybe we can go over here, we can go and test if it’s gonna arrive. how long does it take? we should hear it from here!
grian: okay, it takes— it takes quite a long time.
-
pearl: if i could just see a minecart going any of these directions— oh! there we go, someone’s sent mail! whose is that? (gasp) where’s that going? i’m going to follow it! oh gosh, it’s going so fast actually.
pearl: is this a lost cart or is this something that someone’s just sent? oh, this is kinda cool actually to see this going. let’s just not break it.
pearl: okay, so it cycles around that way, which means the end of the line has gotta been down here somewhere.
pearl oh my gosh, this is insane. like this really gives you a good perspective of what tang—
pearl: (gasp) someone sent mail to gem!
-
grian: uh, maybe i broke it?
postbox: you’ve got mail
grian: yeah, there it is— woah, gem’s there!
-
gem: oh look, we got more mail!
gem: (laughs) it’s— it’s a mumbo stamp that says “want to go end busting”. (sigh) i don’t have any grian stamps.
gem: good news post office is next door. here we are. grian. um, one diamond for any eight. okay, one diamond. i get the feeling i’m gonna need a few of those.
gem: after buying the grian stamps that i needed, i decided to give pearl some static to hopefully get myself some free stamps. it worked.
-
grian: now, i wait for my reply.
grian: i guess while i wait, i’ll, uh— make a start on chopping this monster down.
grian: okay, in the time that i’ve chopped down this much, i still haven’t gotten any mail. and i know that gem’s seen it because she said in the chat. i don’t think sending your immediate neighbours mail is the fastest way of communicating with them.
-
pearl: you should— you should have—
gem: (overlapping) wow, you’re the best, five stars, way better than the permit office, even though i’ve never been there.
gem: okay, now i have all the stamps that i should need. including the grian ones. grian stamp, gem message, press button, alright, that should do it.
-
pearl: i mean, when you leave it out like this—
postbox: you’ve got mail
grian: oh!
pearl: oh!
grian: that is so loud, please turn it down.
pearl: (laughs) but you really need to know that you’ve got mail, it’s important.
grian yeah, i also need to keep my heart beating.
grian: alright, lets see, let’s see.
pearl: fine, i’ll— wait, what did you get, actually, let’s see what you get.
grian: uh, gem says she would like to go end busting.

I think it is incredible that President Biden is actually feeling the pressure from our protests. No, he hasn't done everything he needs to and he hasn't redeemed himself for his role in all this, but the fact that he was caught on a hot mic saying Netanyahu needs a "come to Jesus meeting" about how horribly he's treating Palestinians? That's incredible. All our protests and boycotts have not been in vain. If we weren't making trouble, these governments could keep pretending that they've done no wrong- but they can't escape the blame.
It's encouraging. When you feel like our protests are falling on deaf ears, remember that McDonalds started the year with a loss of over a million dollars, Starbucks fell below it's quarterly sales and is considering closing locations, and people are paying attention- they're changing their opinions. And while these numbers may not be groundbreaking, they are the signs of real effects. Real change.
Never Shut Up About Palestine. Never let them think we are silent and complicit. Let history remember that our governments did not stand for us in this moment, and we did everything we could to make them listen.
