taylor’s tone when she says “i’ll tell you something right now” in but daddy i love him is so petulant and aggressive and it’s not something we’ve seen from taylor in her music in a really long time i’m obsessed

‘ if he was there when she was at her lowest but she couldn't be there for him when he was at his lowest?’ actually he pretty much took her to new unprecedented lows while she tried to support his for years! and she felt that he was breaking her on purpose! hope this helps! and she also makes it very clear that he cheated or was at least with someone in dreams (just in case someone gets mad idk), and the latter is exactly what she did lol. so? idk how you missed all of this from the story and only noticed the mentions of Joe’s depression and her borderline cheating
no, literally. like, ALL she wanted to do was support him and help him. and instead he said “you’re coming down with me.” it wasn’t her mad about his mental health, it was the depression olympics that made her feel neglected and unloved because she was building her planet to orbit his, by the end. the epilogue spells this out. like, it just! wasn’t! working!

Sad thing is that even if Joe cheated on her, which I think he did, she still didn't break up with him. The cheating was never the issue for her as long as he wanted to make it work. But she was alone. He didn't try to fix things between them. I've been in that situation and it sucks
no, it takes a backseat on the album because it was never actually the problem

I hate it here is central to the story because she makes up lunar valleys in her mind, spends all her time there, and ultimately gets ‘saved’ by someone who she actually thinks is like a skylight/alien from another planet. the romanticism doesn’t have to be limited to her inner life anymore! she can express it! she has cosmic love in real life again! until she doesn’t lol.

Do you agree with the theory Taylor is James, Joe is Betty and August is Matty?

This album reaction has been so interesting to me because it's like on one hand this album is shouting "I am human too" and some people are getting that but others it's like the glaring taylor shapes hole in people's ethics/beliefs/empathy and its like the 2nd set are going crazier because of how many people are falling into the first camp (and trying so many different ways to to do it)
and this is exactly what she knew it would provoke ☺️☺️

I do think this is not really hitting with teens! My teenage cousins (14-18) have not posted about it at all after posting everything Taylor related all last year. To me that kinda makes sense, this is adult behavior and feelings lol
and maybe that is a good thing! they will grow into it, and it will be there when they're ready

the manuscript is kind of a love letter to us, in its own way, if you think about it

i cannot believe masturbation is a central topic of discussion about a taylor swift album. imagine if someone told me this one (1) year ago.

"and so a touch that was my birthright became foreign" this is so fucking sad
well and that's the entire thing, right? she and joe wrote a story for themselves. their relationship was magical, a miracle, written in the stars. no one could plan this; no one could avoid this; it was fate. and that trap made the way it fell apart, which was ever so ordinary, impossible for her to swallow on its own. because that would require suspending belief in something she had convinced herself was true.
and this is not me being a widow - stop calling me that. their relationship WASN'T these things! by the end it was sad and cold and painful. she was broken from carrying its weight alone. everyone involved is for the better that it ended, and they probably both think it should have come to a close sooner, just in a different way. but it is why neither of them could bring themselves to pull the plug in any normal way, so they both just withdrew in their own ways instead - he got distant and cold, she broke out the metaphorical gun. ironically, this is the same shape as the conflict we've been seeing between them since the very first song she wrote about their relationship.

“i’m obviously happy in a monogamous relationship” said moments before disaster
the way i quite literally thought about this quote specifically as i was typing out that last answer

Taylor: I am begging you all for my own sanity to see me as a flawed human just like everyone else
18 year old anons who’s boundaries and ethics have never been tested: I’m grossed out by the fact she is is not robotically moral
was just having a conversation with a friend about how for years taylor to us has been the person who has always had her shit together, despite her issues, and how challenging (not in a bad way) it has been to have that deconstructed! but it's a good challenge - forces me to see her as even more of a person than we already did.

i hate y’all for analyzing her song way too much, let it be there. just bopping the song and dance. taylor already said the song isn’t her story anymore and she basically said try to relate this song on your own life.
this album clearly to let things to get off her chest she’s brave enough to share her vulnerability to us thru her pen but y’all treat her like some shit on internet lmao.
fellas, is it wrong to analyze art?

I honestly don’t think it’s as simple as “he cheated” or “she cheated”. Their relationship had already died a thousand deaths and lack of monogamy was not a deal breaker for them at that point. It was just another issue to add to the pot that eventually boiled over.
yes, exactly. just another thing on the heap of ashes.

i think my boy only breaks his favorite toys is the most under-discussed song on the entire album, but it is KEY to the story. once i fix me, he's gonna miss me!
