don't hate btw but... re: my last post, i feel very similarly about moonkitti's spottedleaf video. like yeah it's entirely possible that spottedleaf's love was a retcon, but considering how weird the authors are about romance, the things they'd write later, and the way they write women...... idk if i believe that the authors 100% meant for firestar's love to be unreciprocated as much as i believe that spottedleaf has so little agency in arc 1 that her not verbally agreeing that she loves firestar reads more like the erin's just dont think that she needs to do that.

#haven't some of the erins listed firestar x spottedleaf as being one of their favorite pairings in the past

you can say it undermines the emotional weight of the story to depict mapleshade's crossing of the river as a desperate last resort and then show us she might have had other means of crossing later, but this is a testament to the story being poorly written, not an intentional indictment of mapleshade's character in the text of the story itself that you as the reader are meant to pick up on and hold against her

#its not all on mk cuz a lot of the fandom does for some reason talk about mapleshade's vengeance like it's a masterful morality play #and not a warrior cats book with an already pretty sexist and ableist premise
