State of the Smitty 3/25/2024
I'm hanging with my favorite niece tonight so I'm excited!
The past month has been a hot mess. I had a work thing thing that I came out of with a respiratory infection, so I have been sick or in some state of recovering for the past three weeks. I was going to go to AwesomeCon but did ended up just sending my boyfriend to buy me stuff. We lost one of our fur babies (his 15-year-old dog) a week ago which has been super sad. And the work merger continues, which has resulted in two more people leaving my group (voluntarily, but due to uncertainty, and we're down enough people that I suspect we won't have to lose anyone involuntarily so that's...good? Ish?
Writing Update: I have mostly been excited that I finished Cannon Fodder and been slacking. My next target is probably the fic about Tim's Abs Obsession which was supposed to be a Drabble and is not. I'm also adding to the third part of Marriage 101.

FicBit 11: Jason Todd/Tim Drake
So, I will post this to AO3 later today once I take another run through the formatting and such but I wanted you guys to have this first. Thank you for all the love and support while I was hiccuping this out in pieces! And as always, thanks to @reccea for enabling and betaing and everything.

Jason knew Tim and Bernard had broken up four days and six hours before Tim told him. 
Jason was starting to learn that Tim did things on his own time, no matter what kind of crazy it made Jason. 
The important thing was that Tim told him. 
“Bernard and I aren't together anymore,” Tim said carefully. “And I thought.  Maybe.  I could take you out to dinner. On a date.”
“I only put out for lobster,” Jason warned. 
“So I don't know if you've heard,” Tim said. “But I have this really good job at Wayne Enterprises….”

“I thought Cannon Fodder made you happy,” Jason said over lobster rolls from a shack in the marina. Jason wasn’t any kind of lobster connoisseur but he was pretty sure this was the best he'd ever had.
Tim was in the process of stuffing the end of his roll in his mouth and had to chew and swallow before he could answer. He scowled when Jason laughed at him. 
“I was happy,” he admitted. “Bernard will always be important to me. He helped me learn a lot about who I am and what I want. I might have just stuck to dating girls because… I hadn't been ready to come out. 
“But the feelings I have for you aren't…new,” Tim said slowly. Jason’s heart leapt in his chest. He kept his mouth shut. “I knew who you were but I didn't know you. And then you were - gone - and then, well, I didn't think there was much of a chance.” He shrugged and looked very interested in reassembling his sandwich. “I thought maybe that was my only chance to kiss you so I took it.”
“I might be open to giving you a second chance,” Jason said. “Maybe a third. If you make it good.”
“Shut up, you asshole,” Tim said, looking up, eyes bright and smile crooked. “You know it's going to be good.”
And Jason had no comeback because Tim’s face was lit up like sunshine and this time he had made it happen, had made Tim feel like that. 
“Anyway,” Tim said, because Jason was too busy grinning to answer. “I didn't want to be that guy but I couldn't handle the idea that we might never figure out what this is between us. So I talked to Bernard and we agreed I should uh, take some time and figure things out.”
“He let you go?” Jason asked, because that was fucking stupid of Cannon Fodder. 
“More like…he needed me to make a choice,” Tim said. “And I couldn’t do that while wondering ‘what if’ all the time.”
Jason rubbed the back of his neck because it sounded like Tim was saying he had picked Jason and he wasn’t entirely sure how to feel about that. Though he was leaning toward gloating.
“I just. I want you to be happy,” Jason said, biting the inside of his lip. “Even if that means seeing Cannon Fodder at Sunday brunch.”
“Yeah, well.” Tim poked at his sandwich and looked up at Jason, his cheeks flushed. “Turns out I just want you to be happy, too.”

After a stroll around the tiny marina to “walk off” their dinner, Tim invited Jason aboard his boat and led him below decks.
“Can I take that second chance now?” Tim asked and Jason’s breath caught in his throat. It was just a kiss, they'd done it before, and Jason had kissed half a dozen guys when he was stalking the clubs, but somehow he was still nervous. 
“I mean, you did pony up for the lobster,” he cracked.
Tim reached up and cupped Jason’s face between his hands and drew it down to him. “Hey,” he whispered and then he brought their mouths together. 
It was as good as before, if not better for the longing. Tim’s mouth was sharp and clever and Jason kissed him over and over, unable to pull back. They kissed until Jason’s mouth was dry and he leaned in, chasing Tim’s mouth until Tim’s thumb, pressed against his lower lip, held him back.
“How far did your research take you?” Tim asked and Jason was confused for a moment until he remembered how their conversation in the club had started. 
“Nothing that involved taking off clothes,” he admitted. “I kissed a few guys but none of them were you.”
Tim’s eyes went soft and he stepped back just far enough to pull his t-shirt over his head and toss it behind him. He looked amazing, his arms and chest rounded with muscle, but lithe, graceful. He was pale but had a healthy flush down to his abs. 
“Should I?” Jason asked. 
Tim nodded. “Yeah, if you're comfortable. I think you’ll like this.”
Jason didn't wait to ask what this was, he just dragged his shirt over his head and let Tim look at all the scars that littered his body. They itched under Tim’s intense study and he rubbed self-consciously at his breastbone.
“C’mere,” Tim directed, putting his hands on Jason’s bare waist and pressing back up to his mouth. The heated skin of his chest and stomach slid against Jason’s and Jason gasped with the sensation of naked skin on skin. Tim settled in closer, his palms pushing up Jason's exposed back to his shoulder blades, his arms wrapping around Jason’s ribs and squeezing gently.
“Fuck,” Jason breathed, sensitized and prickling with it, unready for the intensity rising in him. One hand was still pressed against his own chest, the knuckles brushing Tim’s clavicle. He fisted his other hand at his side, unsure what to do with it. 
Tim smiled against his mouth and pulled back, bumping his chin against Jason’s. “It feels good, right?” he whispered. “It's not the same with a girl.”
It wasn't the same with anyone and it wasn't just good. It was intimate in a way that was a revelation to Jason and he brought his mouth down to Tim’s again, hungry and needy in a way Jason hadn’t been with the strangers in the clubs. 
Jason’s skin buzzed everywhere Tim’s fingers had pressed into it. His knuckles prickled where they pushed into Tim’s chest. Jason twisted his wrist so the pads of his fingers grazed Tim’s collarbone and the flesh of his palm curved over warm skin and hard muscle. He paused, mid-kiss, and Tim murmured against his mouth.
“Yeah, like that. Touch me some more?” And Jason had to oblige. 
He spread his fingers, spanning the greater part of Tim’s shoulder and pectoral, his nipple a hard nub against Jason’s palm.  He dragged his hand down until he could circle his thumb over and around it. “Is this weird?” he asked because he'd only ever done it with a girl. 
“Does it feel weird?” Tim asked, tilting his head up. Jason considered. “Because it feels great to me.”
Jason kissed his naughty grin and pinched him lightly. Tim shivered and pressed himself against Jason’s leg and all Jason could think was, I did that.

Much later (surely much later than Jason’s internal clock told him) Tim collapsed on the bed next to Jason, his hair falling over his eyes. Jason turned his head, pressing his cheek to the blanket and gazing (sappily, but he wasn't going to be the one to say it) at Tim. Tim’s eyes were closed and he huffed a breath upward, blowing his hair a half inch off his face before it fell back over his eyes. 
“Does this mean we're going steady?” he asked, lifting his hand to brush Tim’s hair sideways across his forehead. 
Tim smiled with that dirty, dirty mouth of his. “If I say yes, do I get to wear your jacket?”
“You can wear whatever of mine you want,” Jason pledged, dropping his hand to thumb Tim’s lower lip. Tim bit him then sucked Jason’s thumb into his mouth. Jason was in the midst of calculating his recovery time when Tim released his thumb with an audible pop. 
“So, um,” Tim said. “Now that you've, you know.  What do you think?”
“You mean do I still think I’m straight?”
Tim smiled gently. “I think we left that idea a while back.”
Jason turned his gaze back to the ceiling. “Yeah,” he said. “Well.” He considered. “Can I just like who I like? Whatever they are?”
“Yeah,” Tim said. “As long as you still like me best.”
“Yeah,” Jason said. “That won't be a problem.”
One year later…
“Is that blood on your shirt?” Tim asked as Jason settled self-consciously into the place of honor at his Wayne Manor birthday party. This year, he had taken Alfred to high tea at a hotel in New York City for their shared birthday, and Tim had taken him out to dinner - a real, stupidly fancy dinner, with real lobster and only the briefest of supervillain interruptions. 
(But then Bruce said, “Will you come by on Saturday? I promise we’ll keep it small,” and Jason's heart must have grown three sizes that year, because he said,
“Yeah, okay, but don't let the demon brat get me an ant farm.”)
“It's fashion” Jason told Tim archly. “Not that you would know.”
“Not that I would know,” Tim repeated, “from someone whose entire wardrobe consists of cargo pants and black t-shirts.”
Bruce had promised to keep it small and for definitions involving the family, he had more or less kept his word. Dick and Barbara were there, and Tim and Damian, who had been given strict instructions about gifting living beings, but the only other person there was Stephanie. Her gift turned out to be a repeat of last year’s shovel talk.
Tim set a box on Jason’s lap. It weighed a shit ton and wasn't wrapped any better than Jason’s gift to Tim had been. 
“I love it,” Jason said, frowning at the mass of brown fabric inside. “What is it?”
“It's a hammock,” Tim said brightly. “For the boat!”
Jason laughed. “You got me something for your boat?” he laughed. 
“Well, Tim said,  flushing a little across his cheekbones. “I was hoping it might be our boat.”
And Jason had nothing left to say.

WIP Wednesday - Marriage 101
I thought I'd post a little more of this while I was thinking about it.

Tim wore his favorite black suit - the one with the pinstripe that was just a notch shinier than the rest of the fabric - to their appointment at City Hall. It was probably too expensive a suit, given the motivation behind their...appointment. He thought of it in euphemism, because it was fake, it was pretend, but the legal ramifications were very real and this was supposed to have been a very big decision that he’d made in practically no time at all. 
“Hey, um. Hey.”
Tim looked up to see Jason skid into the hallway. He straightened from his contemplative position with his elbows on his knees and stood up. 
“Hey,” he said. 
Jason was wearing a black suit too, and a white shirt and a red tie. He’d done something to his hair - something with product that didn’t exactly work, but it looked like he’d tried, and Tim tried to smother the grin a wave of fondness pushed up to his face. 
“Do you - I mean, do we have time to talk for a sec?” Jason asked and Tim’s anticipation plummeted. Jason was going to back out. 
“Yeah,” he said. “Of course.” 
There was a little corridor where the bathrooms were and they ducked in there, past the marked men’s and women’s to the back wall. 
“So listen,” Jason said, rubbing the back of his neck and not looking directly at Tim. “You doing this, it means, I mean - “ He stopped and took a breath. “You being willing to do this means a lot to me. But if you have, you know, ideas. About marriage. And you don’t want this to be your first, I totally understand. And you shouldn’t feel you have to. Because it’s kind of a big deal. To some people.”
“Is it a big deal to you?” Tim asked because that hadn’t really occurred to him before, that Jason might have a traditional romantic side and that he might one day have hopes of a wife and family. 
It was kind of a weird thing to think about. 
“Me? No. I - No,” Jason said. “I’m barely even a legal entity.” He scrubbed a hand through his hair, messing up whatever careful but ineffective work he’d done with the product. “I just don’t want to fuck things up for you. Like, if you want to date Blondie again. Or someone else. I don’t want to cramp your style.”
Tim shrugged. “I think that ship has sailed with Steph,” he confessed. “And hey, we’re already kind of family, right?”
And this would help Jason out. A lot. And it would let Tim see his face light up talking about English Lit. “So,” he concluded. “Let’s do it.”
Jason’s face split into a genuine grin - not a smirk or snarl or sneer but an actual grin. “There’s probably no favor big enough to pay you back for this,” he said. 
“That’s okay,” Tim said, jamming his hands in his pockets and easing Jason back out to the main hall. “When you’re a rich and famous novelist, you can put me in one of your books. As the star,” he specified. “Not the cannon fodder.”
“I’ll give you a whole series,” Jason promised. “Tim Drake, Secret Agent.”
“I like it,” Tim said. “But please give me a better drink than a watered down martini?”

“I thought you guys were Punking me,” Dick complained when they stepped back into the main hallway.
“Would we do that?” Jason asked. Tim admired how he could sound offended, outraged, and sarcastic with four words.
“In a hot second,” Dick returned. 
“Am I late?”
“For the love of little fish,” Jason muttered, good humor lost. “Did you invite the whole damn family?”
“I invited myself,” Barbara said, poking him in the chest with her finger. “It’s cute how you think you have secrets from me.”  She glanced back at Tim.  Tim waved.  “And you,” she added.  “You should know better.”
Tim shrugged.  He hadn’t actually been trying to hide from her.  He’d just hoped she wouldn’t sound any alarms.  “Should we be expecting any more guests?” he asked.
Jason glanced back at him, realization flashing on his face and he turned quickly back to Barbara.
“I didn’t forward the info,” she said.  “But I know some people are going to be pissed if they hear about this from the Gazette instead of from one of you.”
“<i>Some people</i> can just butt out,” Jason snapped and Dick looked pained.
Honestly, Tim hadn’t really thought Bruce would care too much, beyond the optics of it and he had a plan for that, and he was going to tell Steph, but later, for this very reason.
“Alfred?” Dick sounded angry for the first time and Jason went white and then red.
“I’ll talk to Alfred,” he muttered.
“What do you want us to say to Bruce?” Barbara demanded.  “Did either of you think this through even a little?”
“What do you want us to say to Bruce?” Jason asked.  “We’re getting married to get money for college because you’ll just want to pay and I don’t want you to?”
“Just because he’ll take it badly doesn’t mean you shouldn’t tell him,” Babs said.
“We’ll just tell him it’s a practical arrangement,” Tim offered.  “For practical purposes. He should understand that.”
Jason shot Tim a look Tim couldn’t even begin to interpret and then looked back to Barbara.  “Will that check the box, Barbie?” he asked.
Barbara narrowed her eyes. “I suppose.”  She slapped a redweld against his chest.  “Congratulations on your wedding.”
Jason frowned and unlatched the folder, peering inside.  “Huh,” he said.
That was unhelpfully vague so Tim took the expandable folder from him and pulled out a handful of paperwork.  Birth certificate.  Social security card.  Passport.
“Hey,” he said.  “You’re a real boy Mr. Peterson.”
“Yeah,” Jason said.  He looked back at Barbara.  “Is this - ?”
“Airtight,” Barbara said with her first smile of the day.  “Every piece of it.  It’ll stand up to an intensive background check.  Just give me a heads up if you’re joining the state bar because those people look for everything.”
“Deal,” Jason said and then, to everyone’s surprise, maybe even Jason’s, he hugged her, resting his chin on the top of her head.  “Thanks, Barbara,” he whispered.
“Mr. Peterson and Mr. Drake?” someone called from the wooden doors.  “The magistrate is ready for you.”
“That’s you,” Dick said unnecessarily.  
“We know,” Tim assured him.  
“Yeah,” Jason said. “C’mon, we need you two to be our witnesses.”
“You only need one witness in Gotham,” Barbara corrected.
“Yeah, well, make sure this guy doesn’t mess it up, okay?” Jason asked and then squared his shoulders.  He looked at Tim and held out his hand.  “C’mon,” he said.  “We have to pretend like we like each other.”
“Oh yeah,” Barbara said.  “This is going to be the best marriage ever.”

And so they got married. There was an awkward part where they were supposed to kiss and they both tilted their heads the same way and it was absurdly clear they had never kissed each other before, but no one said anything and they escaped with their dignity intact. 
“So,” Tim said, out on the street after. “What now?”
Barbara elbowed Dick. Dick elbowed Barbara back. This escalated. Tim ignored them. 
“I’ll submit my paperwork and hope for the best,” Jason said doubtfully. “And I guess in August, I start crashing at your place?”
“I wasn't sure if you needed to crash there before,” Tim said. “Or want to get your mail sent there, at least. So I made you keys.”
“I don't need keys,” Jason scoffed but took them anyway. 
“Jason Peterson needs keys,” Tim countered. 
“Okay, yeah,” Jason conceded. “I guess I’ll have to stop by for my mail now and then.”
“You’d better,” Tim told him. “If Gotham U sends you a ginormous envelope, you have exactly one hour to get over here and open it or I’m doing it for you.”
Jason dropped his head back and laughed. If Tim watched the ripple of his throat, well, he was married to the man. “Fair,” he allowed with a grin. “So, uh, see you around, I guess?”
“Yeah,” said Tim. “See you around.”
And that was that.

State of the Smitty - 2/26/24
I went on vacation and it was awesome. I finished like eight books and ate crepes every morning for breakfast.
Writing Update:
I might have actually finished Cannon Fodder but I'm getting a second opinion to make sure the end is satisfying. Also, it may have grown an epilogue? So be on the lookout for that. I may try to post more Marriage 101 next in hopes of working through that one.
I may have started a Red Hood Tim fic, too. May have. There's a 3/4 done Bingo Card fic, too. Focus, what?

FicBit 10: Jason Todd/Tim Drake

OH MY GOD THIS TOOK FOREVER. However, there is only one more part and it's already mostly done. Whew.
Red Robin was in Red Hood’s territory, and he was brandishing a greasy paper bag of Big Belly Burger.
“What are you doing on my turf?” Jason demanded, trying to ignore that he could *smell* the onions from two feet away.
“It’s been pointed out to me,” Tim said wryly, “that I may have been a shit to you.”
Jason shrugged because he fucking hated that Tim’s questions had gotten to him and he wasn’t ready to admit it.
“I hear burgers are the going rate for an apology,” Tim added, shaking the bag a little.
“And fries?” Jason asked, relenting. 
“And fries,” Tim confirmed. 
Jason swept the bag out of his hand and dug out the top burger. Loaded with onions. Perfection.  “So let’s hear it,” he mumbled around the first bite.
Tim lifted the lenses on his domino and rolled his eyes. Jason coughed out a laugh around his double beef patties.
“I’m sorry I got all up in your business,” Tim said. “I wanted - I wanted too many things and I tried to make them all work.”
Jason lifted his own lenses to share his side eye. “What the fuck does that mean?” he asked.
Tim scratched the back of his head. “You had me pretty fucked up, with that kiss,” he admitted.”I know I shouldn’t have done it. But I guess I wanted to be part of what you were going through, like…Bernard was for me.”
“No names in the field,” Jason scolded, shoving some fries into his mouth. “And Cannon Fodder is your actual boyfriend. Were you going to be my actual boyfriend?”
“No,” Tim said immediately and blushed. “I just.”
“Help!”
Jason snapped his attention away from Tim. “Hello?” he called. “Do you need help?”
A child, a little boy, maybe seven or eight, ran out of the alley, his hands fisted in his sweatshirt. “It’s my mom,” he said. “She needs help.”
Jason flipped the lenses on his domino back down and tossed the bag to Tim. “Show me where she is,” he directed.
“This way,”the kid said and ran back down the alley. Jason followed, his long strides eating up the distance between himself and the kid, and then he saw a woman huddled over some cardboard boxes. She was protecting her stomach and Jason’s heart pounded as he assumed the worst. 
“Let me see,” he said, kneeling next to her. “Help is here.”
He heard, rather than saw the taser as she fired, and he barely had time to say, “Fuck,” before everything went black.

Jason gained consciousness slowly and regretfully.  For starters, he was upside down and his nose was running.  (It seemed like a problem that would solve itself, but no.)  Moving on, he was lashed to Tim, who was also unconscious.  His head was tucked under Jason’s chin, his mouth breathing short puffs of air against Jason’s neck.  At least he was breathing.  Their hands were tied, Jason’s behind his back and Tim’s in front of him, which basically put them right in Jason’s groin.  For fuck’s sake.  As if Jason didn’t have enough problems with wanting Tim, some absolute psycho went and  put Tim’s hands in Jason’s lap and was probably laughing while Jason tried to be cool about it.  Finally, Jason craned his head down to see what they were dangling over.  Acid?  Alligators?  Something that started with the letter B?
Nope.  Concrete.  Great.  He groaned and Tim stirred against him.
“Wake up, Baby Bird,” he said because the jig was up and he might as well have company in immortal humiliation.  “They got us.”
“Temporary situation,” Tim said crisply, even though his voice was muffled by Jason’s skin and his own shirt.  
“Let’s not fall on our heads,” Jason suggested when he realized Tim was picking the ties on his own hands.  Actually, falling on his head sounded pretty good right now, with Tim’s hands shifting and twitching *so fucking close* and his cock aching for those hands to hold it.  Only Jason could get a stiffy while dangling over certain death.
“Just stay really still for a sec,” Tim said, and then he twisted around and wrapped his arms around Jason’s back. Jason tried not to die inside. Tim tucked his head into the small of Jason’s back - it was really weird to get turned on by this, right? - and rotated his body so he was facing upright, his knees hooked around Jason’s shoulders. “You need my pick before I jump?” he asked.
“I have a knife,” Jason replied, choked.
Tim pushed off and somersaulted to the floor. His landing was light, not as soundless as Dick’s, but far less noisy than Jason’s was about to be. Tim had freed Jason’s feet, which had been  tied with his own, so Jason wrapped one leg in the hanging chain before he sliced apart the ropes holding his hand. He grasped the chain and swung himself down, landing beside Tim with a quiet thunk.
“I don’t know what kind of candyass bullshit that was,” he said, rubbing at his chest which still tingled from the taser. “But we need to kick some asses.”
“I got tased by a third grader.” Tim sounded salty. “I’m guessing it’s not my drug ring.”
“We weren’t even in costume when we pissed them off,” Jason pointed out. “It’s gotta be somebody else.”
“Smart enough to use decoys, dumb enough to leave us alone,” Tim added.
Jason tried to remember the woman’s face as he bent over her. “Mind control?” he asked. “Hatter’s still in Arkham, isn’t he?”
Tim tapped his earbud. “Oracle,” he asked. “Is Mad Hatter still in Arkham?” He looked at Jason and shook his head. A metal door screamed open a thousand feet away and about a dozen people marched through the opening. “Oh. That fits. Yeah, Red Hood and I will take care of it.”
“Who is it?” Jason demanded, unholstering his guns. 
“Professor Pyg,” Tim said. “He escaped sometime this afternoon. He probably hasn’t had time to turn anyone into a Dollotron yet but he has some method of mind control.”
“Dammit.” Mind control meant no bullets. Not even rubber ones. “All right, let’s find this guy and put him back where he belongs. You still owe me a burger.”
“I gave you a burger,” Tim protested. “It’s not my fault you got duped into abandoning it.”
“I handed it back to you,” Jason pointed out. “It’s not my fault you got tased by an eight-year-old.”
“Ugh,” Tim said. “There are offices up there, on the catwalk. Pyg’s probably up there. Let’s skip the henchmen and go straight to the source.”
Jason didn’t often use a grapple but Tim was already on his way and there was no way Jason was letting him face Pyg without backup. He grappled up to the catwalk, ducking under the metal guardrail, and took off after Tim. They started clearing offices and had covered the east side of the warehouse when Jason heard a footstep behind him and spun around.
Pyg, brandishing a cleaver, and a syringe, had emerged from the next office down and was trying to rush Jason. Fortunately he was neither fast nor accurate and Jason managed to side-step him and take him down with a judo throw. He kicked the cleaver down the catwalk but Pyg lunged at his with the syringe. It wouldn’t have pierced his armor, but it didn’t matter. Tim was there and he cracked his bo staff across the back of Pyg’s head. Pyg went down and Jason picked up the syringe. “We’re gonna want to analyze this,” he commented.
“Later,” Tim snapped. “We’re getting him back to Arkham before he can do anymore damage.”
Sirens were already wailing. Jason zip-tied Pyg’s wrists and checked the back of his head. “You got him good, baby bird,” he said, finding a sizable goose egg. “Cops are on their way. They can give him a lift back to Arkham.”
“We need to figure out what this is and how to counteract it,” Tim said, nodding at the syringe still in Jason’s hand. “We’ll have to take it back to the Bat-Cave.”
“I’m not going there,” Jason said automatically. “Which office was he using? Are there notes?”
The notes were in the third office they checked. Tim took the notes and the syringe and slipped out of the warehouse to tell some cop he was friendly with how to synthesize an antidote.
Jason grappled to the roof of the next building and watched Tim from a distance as he spoke stridently with a detective. Then, he slipped into the shadows and went home.

Look, I'm only three months behind. That's...something.

Stephanie Brown's Teenage Pregnancy
Who remembers when Stephanie Brown had a teenage pregnancy storyline that lasted about 9 issues of Robin (1993)? Is that still canon? Has anything in New52 or Rebirth retconned it?
I hated the storyline, which felt (to me) forced and like an example of authorial evangelizing, but I also feel like it's part of Steph's history and part of Tim and Steph's friendship.
To recap, Steph spent many issues trying to date Robin, who wouldn't even tell her who he was, and was dating someone else. When they finally got together, Steph realized she was pregnant by her ex-boyfriend and insisted on having the baby and giving it up for adoption. Tim went with her to Lamaze classes and went to the hospital when he deduced she was in labor. She had an emergency C-section and had a baby girl, whom she gave up for adoption.
Thoughts on taking that into account in fic characterization?

I know people liked the idea of Victorian Era Jaytim but someone mentioned Regency period and thats when Pride and Prejudice is set in, WE HAVE TO GIVE JASON HIS HAND SCENE. (Iykyk but HERE)

Timothy Drake-Wayne despised the ball parties his guardian would hold on a weekly. Duke Wayne was a good father and definitely earned the favour of the public when he took in the orphaned son of the Drakes, but he could seriously take a break with the noisy gatherings of flute glasses, giggles and a socialising that would most likely tire Timothy out within minutes of conversation.
Which was why he was currently hiding in the corner of the ballroom, shrinking back into the delicate wallpaper as best he could.
"You know, if you're trying to blend into that godawful wallpaper, you should have dressed in a lighter shade."
Tim's head whipped up from his cradled flute of champagne, blue eyes landing on a man grinning at him with a chuckle. He had on a top half of a startling dark red mask, his strong cut jawline exposed and giving highlight to the shape of the man's face. But Tim found his streak of white hair that fell handsomely over his forehead to be most attractive.
The young Earl cleared his throat when he realised he had been staring instead of giving an appropriate answer just as his Mother made sure to integrate into his education.
"And what shade would you suggest, Sir?" He glanced back at the patterned wall. "Ivory and gold for the accents or perhaps if I stood in front of the painting, I could wear pink and green." His voice was utterly fake and not missed by the other man.
He saw his green eyes glance at the painting he had mentioned, lips pulling into a quick smirk.
"As much as I'd desire to see you in the colour of a blushing rose, I rather like you in the darker shades." The man leaned in a little closer, as if telling Tim a secret. "It's much easier to hide in the night, don't you think? No one would know if we were to slip out to the gardens."
Another grin, and another skip of Tim's heart.
"Lord Todd." Timothy gave him a half hearted glare to warn him, his eyes flickering across the people that surrounded them, but luckily were not paying attention to the young gentlemen in a corner.
"Must you be so formal? Timothy, my love."
Jason whispered the last two words, the intimacy of the name bringing colour to Tim's cheeks. He was glad this was a masquerade ball, it would be utterly scandalous if he was caught blushing from the words of Lord Jason Todd, the Baron of Gotham's underbelly. It was the gossip of the whole city when Jason had been cast away from Wayne Manor and for years he was presumed dead, until the night he swooped in to gain control of land and businesses that had been corrupted. It was whispered that he had used methods that would usually warrant arrest but the elites of society benefitted from his erasure of the criminals so they kept quiet and allowed him into a higher society. He still had some influence as a past Wayne.
"Come, let us go and enjoy the night. Away from society." Jason whispered again, filling Tim's heart and soul with promises he knew he would keep. He gave a small nod and watched as his secret lover melted away into the crowds, slipping outside by himself to avoid attention.
Timothy waited a few seconds, that was all he could give before he followed Jason, heart in his throat as he ignored the pointed look from Duke Wayne from across the room and successfully stepped outside. His feet hurried to the gardens, thankful that the hedges were tall and the moon was only a crescent moon.
"Jason?" He whispered, listening for the sounds of leaves. His eyes darted around as he travelled deeper into the gardens, huffing a little when he realised Jason had purposely left him to find him.
Timothy finally found Jason at the corner of the maze, waiting patiently with his arms crossed over his chest. Tim took a small gulp as he stood a bit away from him, both pair of eyes assessing the other and filled with a dangerous desire. His slender fingertips slowly reached up, removing his own sleek red mask from his face. When it fell to the ground, he swore he heard Jason take a sharp intake of breath, blue eyes shyly looking up at him again.
"I love you in red." Jason said, his voice low and almost a groan.
Tim let out a light laugh, hiding it behind his hands. "Is that all?" He asked in a teasing tone.
Jason stepped forward, his arms now falling to his side. "No." He answered.
Tim waited with his breath held.
Jason's fingers reached out to gently hold Tim's hand, thumb smoothing over the back of his hand as if touching silk. Tim felt like he was never going to breath again, blue eyes wide as he looked at Jason, his own green eyes casted downwards as he tilted his head forward.
Jason brought Tim's hand up to his lips, kissing the lengths of his fingers so lightly Tim wondered if this was a dream.
"I love you, everything about you. Most ardently."

State of the Smitty 10/25/23
October went by SUPER fast, ya'll. Mostly because I was spending time with friends, which made me very happy, but I'm ready for an antisocial November.
The next part of Cannon Fodder is just one scene away from being done and the wait for that will depend on just how lazy I decide to be (or not) in giving them activities outside of pining for each other.
Also there's a greater-than-a-drabble happening for a request from the JayTim Bingo Card. Tim's abs obsession cannot be contained to 100 words.
Reading: The first Bridgerton novel and Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine.
Watching: Bridgerton (just starting season 2), and a lot of Bake-Off. Also Strange New Worlds and Lower Decks.
Listening: A lot of Taylor Swift, actually. And Snow Patrol. IDK either.
