Trainposting
One of the biggest disadvantages of our new home is that we’ve lost access to Amtrak service. Charlottesville had three lines running through it, but Augusta has a grand total of zero. One bright spot on the horizon, however, is that Amtrak is studying a high speed rail (HSR) connector between Charlotte, NC and Atlanta, GA that would come right through Augusta based on the current corridor…

“‘Forgot’ to pay your fare? make transit affordable!?
That’s fare evasion treating a public service like a business.
There is no excuse not to pay your fare for hiring cops to harass poor people.
You may face a fine of up to $425 or a criminal charge decreased trust from the public.”
Seen on the TTC subway, in Toronto, Canada

you matter. your existence matters. you don’t need anyone else to validate that. just by being here, you matter and you deserve good things.

On Solarpunk Spirituality (& Humanity's Intangible Squishy Bits) with Navarre Bartz
Today Ariel sits down with Navarre Bartz to talk about solarpunk spirituality. Solarpunk’s emphasis on respecting and valuing human and non-human life includes the totality of a being’s existence, and that includes the “squishy bits” of the experience that we can’t quite quantify. Navarre recently hosted a series of guest posts on his blog, Solarpunk Station, all about the spiritual angle of solarpunk, and what a solarpunk style of spirituality might look like.

DISCLAIMER: the point I’ll try to make here is about kind, genuine compliments, not cat calling or sexual “compliments”, OF COURSE.
So... a thing I’m trying to learn is to receive compliments. Yeah, really. I suck at it like many people and we usually learn that you have to reject them bc you need to be “modest”, “humble”... but trust me, accepting kind compliments have two good effects: one, it’s VERY good for your self esteem! Trust me! You won’t become an egocentric a**hole just for that. Two, it’s good for the person who made the compliment, they (and you) get a nice interaction and won’t be put in an awkward situation. I bet I’d explain my point better in my native language but... you know what, that’s good enough! Yeah!
(and yes, in a sea of rude customers, there’s plenty of good ones, luckily)

I don't have a problem with a little creative reuse and dirt. Solarpunk is optimism with dirt under it's nails, not the sterile environment of atompunk or raypunk.
This image looks more like cyberpunk to me though, with the rampant advertising, as something so consumerist doesn't jive with solarpunk economics.
I don't see anything that screams low quality of life to me, except the lack of people in the streets even though the trams hint at a walkable environment.
You're definitely right that Solarpunk is high life and high (really appropriate) tech as the meme that was going around suggests. I don't think anyone has suggested otherwise?

I want owned physical media back, but I'm not sad to see DVDs go – optical media was always a transitional technology, and suffers from a number of intractable drawbacks. I want them to start selling movies on indestructible solid-state cartridges the size of a quarter, so I can keep my entire media collection in an unsorted pile in a random cabinet drawer and have to go rummaging through it like an amateur chef trying to find the lemon zester every single time I want to watch something. Do you understand? I want to lose the entire Star Wars trilogy between my couch cushions.

All 36 hospitals in Gaza have been destroyed by Israel. ALL 36. DESTROYED.
And Israel has the nerve to claim it doesn't bomb hospitals and is "careful not to target civilians".
Fuck you.
I will never forgive and I will never forget how the world allowed this to happen. If you are silent about this, you are complicit. Keep talking about Gaza!
