I feel the need to add two things:

The Fire Nation resistance has been in my Ice & Smoke plans for a LONG time, so that's almost definitely where the sideways flame thing is going to end up. I'll write it, it's just going to be a while before I get there.

You know the "your scar is on the wrong side" thing? Yeah. That, but people turning their flame emblems the wrong way so it looks like... well, a scar on the wrong side of Zuko's face.

Me: Zuko's scar is kind of shaped like a flame.

Me: I mean, no shit, it's a burn scar.

Me: But it has the three little pointy bits at the back, which kind of make it look like the Fire Nation's flame emblem, but turned sideways.

Me: ...

Me, scribbling furiously: The resistance movement in the Fire Nation comes to see Zuko as the symbolic leader of their movement toward the end of the war, and because voicing support for the traitor prince isn't tolerated, the resistance needs a subtler way to make their position known. All across the Fire Nation, banners are stolen and re-hung sideways, official seals on documents are deliberately printed crooked, and disillusioned soldiers deface their uniforms by tearing the flame emblems away and reattaching them sideways. What most people know but no one will say is that the sideways flames represent Zuko's scar, and that the symbol indicates support for him as a leader and for his mission to bring an end to the war.

The sideways flame banners sound like something Zuko's supporters with wear in towards the sun to differentiate themselves from Iroh's supporters

You might be right. I wouldn't really know - I only read a few chapters of that fic because it was way too depressing for my tastes, and (at least in the chapters I read), I really disliked how cold, callous, and closed-minded Katara was written.

Do you plan to start book 3 of your fanfic this year?

Oof, that's a big ask, anon 😅

The short answer is probably not. Just going by the number of things that still need to happen in Book 2, Earth probably won't be any shorter than Water was, and since Book 1 clocked in at about 450k while I just cracked the 100k mark on Book 2 this morning... I've probably got a while to go.

The longer answer (I guess) is that it is and always has been my plan to start writing Book 3 as soon as I finish writing Book 2 (which again, will be A While). I'll probably try to do the same thing I did when Book 1 ended and have at least a couple of Book 3 chapters ready to post immediately after posting the Book 2 finale to minimize the wait time for everyone. But I can't really work ahead when some of the in-between bits haven't been drafted yet (plans that far out in the future are squishy at best), and I have no clue how long it's going to be before I have the rest of Book 2 drafted. It'll happen as soon as possible! I just don't know when it'll be possible.
