obsessed with this quote from Taika: Throughout the shoot, “we improvised little touches on each other’s shoulders, little tugging on each other’s sleeves,” he says. “Some of it was even out of frame, but I do think it reads.” (x)
because, apart from the confirmation that their little touches were all acting choices (so sexy of them, love that), i just know that one of the out of frame touches is this one

Waiting here underneath your window Hoping for some kind of sign Every move, every tiny gesture Only proves that you’re not mine
ep 9 AU where instead of going back to the ship, Ed follows Stede (the vines are moonflower, which symbolize ‘dreaming of love’)

For anyone who, like me, plans to make the Breakup Robe, I asked and found that:
The starting point is a kimono pattern (specifically folkwear patterns was mentioned) but with a box pleat added to the back.
The sleeves are kimono sleeves and it is the weight of the tassle that makes it seem rounded.
The shoulder seams were added that way to keep all the birds facing upright.
From IG posts, the lining is fuchsia matka silk from Sai Silks which doesnt seem to have online ordering and the tassels are from Western Costume Company, which does have some online ordering but isn't mobile friendly so YMMV.

Stede may not know much about how to actually run a ship, but I'll bet anything that the Revenge lived in his mind for years before it was ever built.
This guy probably had a perfect image in his head of what his dream pirate ship would look like, curated over countless hours spent daydreaming of the seafaring life, and he clearly had a lot of influence over the design and construction of the Revenge. What I'm saying is, Stede didn't just get a ship. He brought his ship to life.
And y'all, it shows.
From his over-the-top cabin, to the secret compartments he had built in "just for fun," to the figurehead that he definitely picked out himself (Stede is a Horse Girl), the Revenge is dripping with his touch. It's brimming full of things that no other pirate ship would ever have, but this one does because it's a physical manifestation of Stede Bonnet's whole personality, including the parts he's always been judged for. It's no wonder it became this magical little safe space for the crew, when Stede poured his whole heart and soul into it, reinforced it with the finest cherry wood in all of Brazil, and then won a duel with it.
And this is also why it's so special to me that Ed got to know the ship first, before he even properly met Stede himself. He was instantly enamored by the things that everyone else seemed to shrug off or laugh at—the knickknacks, and the trinkets, and the books, and all the fancy stuff. They even show Mary's rejection of the model (a literal symbol of Stede's hopes and dreams) right next to Ed's delighted, enthusiastic acceptance of it. It's like a projection of their whole relationship.
Basically, Ed fell in love with the Revenge just as much as he fell in love with Stede, because the Revenge is Stede. And even when all the fine fabrics are gone, and the bookshelves are empty, and there's no lively crew to feel safe with, a bit of Stede will still be there.

ed pulls his hair back when he meets stede - he pushes it back the first time when he first is looking down at stede, then he wears it pulled back off his face to represent how he opens up around stede. this is the most open and available i’ve ever seen him.
then as the kraken he looses his hair again. his hair is thick around his face, almost like a veil. a mourning veil, perhaps.
so when stede and ed find each other again, when they’re both shaking with the emotion of everything they’ve been through, when they’re desperate and hurt and angry and breathless, short on hope, looking into the faces of ghosts they’ve loved -
stede’ll lift a hand. reach out. hesitate when ed flinches. he’ll hate that ed flinches. it’ll break his heart, but it won’t break his resolve. stede will be gentle. that’s how ed will know he’s real.
only stede could be that gentle.
so stede’ll reach. brush his fingers against ed’s temple, catching his hair and pushing it back so he can see ed’s face, ed’s beautiful face. the dark greasepaint around his eyes, blackening his still-short beard. stede will tuck that hair back behind ed’s ear, careful not to catch on his earring. a tiny sword. a reminder that ed can be hurt if stede doesn’t do this just right.
ed breathes hard, panting. stede doesn’t breathe at all. they’re both shaking.
stede tucks those that bit of hair away, running his fingers down the length of it all as he draws his hand back. then he reaches again, does the other side. parting the veil. pushing it away like ed is a bride and stede means to make him promises.
there you are, stede says, with a tremulous smile. there you are, ed.
i’m not him anymore, ed tells him. breath hitching now. he’d forgotten about tenderness. i’ve killed him too.
are you sure? stede asks, a bit cheeky, which makes ed laugh because what the fuck kind of question. because i’d recognise this face anywhere. edward.
his hand will be warm, when he cups ed’s cheek. ed had forgotten about warmth. when he says stede, his voice will crack.
when stede kisses him, that hand on ed’s cheek, that hand in ed’s hair, it’s like a wound reopening. it’s like a sword to the belly. a cannon blasting through.
but stede’s hand is there, already applying pressure. already stemming the bleeding. holding ed and all his pieces together, scarred and sore and shattered; taking in the breadth of everything ed is and has been and can be, and accepting all of it as one.
it won’t solve everything. it won’t heal everything into some pristine marble statue of the men they once were or the men they want to be.
but ed presses his forehead to stede’s when the kiss is over, keeps him close. allows himself, one more time, to hang on. it’s not an ending, but it is a beginning, and one more is all they need.
this will be the last one.
