im so sorry if this is an annoying question but are you still working on the jesskas reunion animatic 😯

you're good dw! and about the animatic, it's both a yes and no?

to explain, and to give an update on on the au in general: CJAU has 3 main arcs, the second being the biggest (and has a secondary arc within). i already have an idea of what the end points of all those arcs would be like, and the reunion animatic marks the end of the first.

at the time i talked about the reunion (which i think was like. a year ago? around the time of the compliance comic? oh mygod) there was supposed to be two more comics before i wrapped it up, one of them being LWOAL. and since i work on multiple parts at the same time, the reunion already had a script going and i started thumbnailing right after Compliance was out. i even got halfway through the whole thing!

...but after some revisits to the storyline i just thought it wasn't good enough. i wanted the second arc to have a solid enough foundation for me to work with and what i had before wasn't cutting it, and as much as i wanted to get to it i don't want to rush things. so in between rethinking the plot, working on LWOAL and it getting like 3-4 redos, and the weird mcsm-specific burnout that happened mid oct-dec, the animatic was put on hold.

however! i've figured out many things since then and at this point in time there should be ~2-3 more comics before the reunion! and i want to actually pace myself this time before i start work on the animatic again. so while i'm not working on it atm, i still really, really want (and plan) to get it out someday :)

CJAU is kinda like an experiment for me to play around with making comics/storytelling since i've never tackled something this big before, so heads up things are always subject to change haha. i do think about it a lot and want to make it the best it can be- i like what i have going too, but ig sometimes it leads to a lot of unneeded pressure on myself,, it brings out the perfectionist in me idk why hfjkgd. im gonna try to chill out on that front tho, and in the meantime thanks for everyone's patience with me i know i take a while with this au 🥹

Do you think Jesse ever thinks about what happened back in the games? Especially like.. considering it was RIGHT after PAMA. You spend your whole damn journey making sure nobody ends up dead after so many close calls (the whole blazerods stuff, Ivor thinking he was gonna end up dead in the wp's mansion, Lukas being blamed, the chipping.) JUST to watch them ACTUALLY DIE without being able to stop it. I will never not want to sob thinking about how Jesse reacted before learning about the respawning 💔💔

oh ABSOLUTELY yes he does. and i completely agree with your points too- like he’s doing his best to protect the people that mean so much to him but then in that moment he realises even that isn’t good enough. things just happen anyway. and he’s feeling such strong waves of guilt, hopelessness and anger all at once then suddenly that all means nothing either because they came back! they’re alive and well!!

now he has to ride out the grief of losing them AND the relief of having them back, both equally as strong, while also having to be a leader and negotiate with the most unreasonable people he’s met (the old builders). honestly this is such an impossible situation that he probably feels the intensity of everything for a second then it all shuts down to numbness. deal with the situation first- feel later. and oh does that turn into a habit later, sometimes coming in handy for moments that really needed good judgment calls but can also be unhealthy if unchecked.

i like to think afterwards in the dorm, when the team finally gets some form of a break, jesse does go check up on the two that died (lukas and petra for me). seeing them greet him casually like they always do, he realises that the things he took for granted can be so fragile, and all the overwhelming emotions kept behind walls finally come to the front. he breaks down, just a little (since the fight’s not over and he wants to keep it together till the end), and the group shares a hug that tells him it’s okay to not be a leader in this moment <3

so im replaying mcsm and im on chapter 2... and I saw how you said how you hate petras characterization and I totally agree!! like you said, her talking down to Lukas honestly pissed me off because girl you saw he was more than capable in the portal arc??? Or even in the either storm arc? I don't understand and I really feel like they did her so dirty

EXACTLYYY you get it!!!!!!! it’s especially heartbreaking to me that they’re basically best friends and implied childhood friends…like why would you say that :(

i feel like it’s also kinda out of place for a moment like that to exist in a storyline where she’s trying to keep her friends together by her side? how is putting them down gonna help that?? and while i get she’s upset her friends are seemingly leaving her behind this remark is just plain insulting-

compare this moment with when she hid/excluded her upcoming adventure with jack and nurm from jesse. i can see where that’s coming from (not that i condone it) bc it’s acted out of bitterness from feeling abandoned, but to call lukas weaker than her is not a hit to the growing distance between their friendship but instead is to his capabilities as a person. and since something like this doesn’t just manifest in the moment it also has an implication that she’s felt this way about him for quite some time before s2….eugh. doesn’t sit right for me character wise as petra is shown to be loyal and dedicated to her friends in s1

though from what i’ve seen this fandom collectively does not like this part too so 🤝🤝
