Gaetano Pesce (8 November 1939 – 3 April 2024)
Moloch Floor Lamp, 1970-71,
Mr. Pesce imagined this floor lamp as a giant version of an ordinary desk lamp. Take turns describing what you notice about it. Then share how being near the super-sized lamp makes you feel. He made the lamp larger-than-life to call attention to the desire some people feel to buy lots of things. Would you want a lamp this big in your home? Why or why not?

Jess, "Game's Up" (1981),
In “Game’s Up” (1981), Jess layers parts of different puzzles to assemble a picture of an adolescent boy playing checkers by himself in the lower right-hand corner. Hunting dogs (pointers), sunflowers, and daisies are in the foreground and Alpine mountains are in the background, with a high colonnade running along the right side of the tallest one. To the right of the colonnade, two automobile headlights float in the air, each tilted in a different direction; on the left side of the picture plane, a large candle is nestled in the flowers and brush.
Compositionally, the alignment of dogs, candle, umbrellas, and headlights pulls our attention from left to right, and diagonally into the space. “What dishonest activity has been discovered?,” the image and title seem to ask, withholding the answer.
Jess’s art is both open and impenetrable, like a temple that is full of inexplicable things and whose devotees are unknown to us.

Lascaux prehistoric rock paintings, Montignac, France !
Previously undiscovered symbols in the Lascaux network of caves are definitive evidence that the human “like” dates back to prehistoric times.

Godzilla Nebula !
NASA's Spitzer telescope spotted a nebula that looks like it could rise up out of the ocean and flatten a city if it felt like it. NASA JPL talked up the wild image in 2021 just in time for Halloween, saying it looks like a cosmic portrait of infamous movie monster Godzilla!

 Invisibility Shield 2.0 !
The shields don’t require any external energy supply or magic; they simply give the impression of invisibility using optical trickery.
The panel appears transparent, but it's actually showing a blurred view of what’s behind it. It uses a precision-engineered lens array to direct light reflected from the subject standing behind it, away from the observer standing in front.

Chavis Mármol's Neo-Tamene (from the series)
Sculptor Chavis Mármol has never owned a car, but that’s never inhibited his drive. Earlier this month, the 42-year-old Mexico City-based artist (who travels largely by bicycle) dropped a nine-ton replica of an Olmec head onto the roof of a blue Tesla Model 3.
The car was donated by Colima 71,, a boutique hotel in Mexico City.
The work is a mix of humor and criticism that explores the Mexican pre-Hispanic past from a Western neo-colonial perspective.
