Finally one of these that isn't some absurd game of would you rather. Given that I don't know the location of this house and am VERY happy to be back living in my home town I'd have to pass on living in "this" house. However if one just like it was down the street and the internal architecture wasn't a nightmare I'd love to be the guy living in the Crab House.

There's an epidemic of AI-made photographs on this platform. Right now, they're mostly used for farming clicks, but as A.I. models get better at faking images, be prepared for a spread of scams, misinformation and propaganda.
Here are some tricks for spotting AI!

This!!! I'm a trained machinist; it matters FAR more that I know how to apply and interpret measurements and equations than having the Pythagorean Theorem memorized. There is literally a "trig solver" app on my cellphone for that. And saying "what if you don't have a calculator" is akin to saying "What if you don't have power" sure it can happen; but something else major has gone wrong to get to that point.

I never said mosquitoes weren't important; I'm well aware that they are a vital part of many food chains. That doesn't change my willingness to black out the sun and return earth to a barren desolate hunk of space rock just to see them eradicated.
Speaking up and educating people on why the most hated life forms on the planet are important and meaningful is a thankless task.
How do we reach out and get people to care about insects and spiders when the average reaction is either "EEWW KILL IT WITH FIRE" or blind panic?
Arthropods are crucial to the survival of life as we know it. Yes, even commonly vilified bugs like wasps and mosquitoes have ecological niches that the world CANNOT do without.
I cannot overstate their importance.

Ok so this but if the "Highest paid" ceo dies say mid-punch 295, then it just moves down the line of succession kinda like the President/VP chain.

genuinely one of the saddest parts of this new era of the internet is how hard it is to rick roll someone now. with people's attention spans shortening so much, they wouldn't even get through the first few bait seconds before clicking off the video. like i saw a comment that ended with "btw i made all of this up" and the replies kept treating it so seriously because none of them finished the entire 4 sentence comment. and We're no strangers to love You know the rules and so do I (do I) A full commitment's what I'm thinking of You wouldn't get this from any other guy I just wanna tell you how I'm feeling Gotta make you understand Never gonna give you up Never gonna let you down Never gonna run around and desert you Never gonna make you cry Never gonna say goodbye Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you

Sometimes I think about my best friend in my 20's response to when I told her I was envious of how talented and skilled she was cause she was always the friend that was doing a million new hobbies and just really had it together in my eyes and she seemed so disappointed in me and said how she's always been perceived as "talented" for things she was not a natural at and had actually worked tirelessly hard to learn to do and how it's never a compliment to assume someone has something you don't simply because they got lucky because more often than not they were just as capable as you and just chose to take risks, dedicate time, push through discomforts or doubts that maybe you succumb to, and really earned things that are often nonchalantly disregarded by peers as having walking in with already in hand
And I feel like that conversation really changed me cause I've always been bad at school and been a slow learner so I just sort of decided I wasn't smart and it wasn't my fault I wasn't born with the same advantages of people around me and I think that's something we all do as self protection from the truth that the only thing truly keeping us from what we want is usually ourselves and our decisions about our own narratives that aren't actually in stone even if we see them that way
I realized my friend was actually just not a quitter, and that she also felt not good enough often but decided to keep going in times where I know I would have stopped in her place
And I feel like taking ownership of my life a lot in the last few years has made me understand her better, even with stuff like chronic illness that practically begs us to victimize ourselves and then that way of thinking makes us sicker and more dependent on others when we could be accepting help without considering ourselves so helpless
It's really weird interacting with anyone once I've realized so much of that because I see my old self in people when they talk to me like I have something they don't because I am finally making different choices than I used to and honestly it is very irritating regardless of intention
If you want something someone else has that doesn't give you permission to assume how they got it or what it is even like having it - and I think more and more people have decided it's not their fault how they are choosing to live and that's why they are so stuck

I have seen a million variations of this. Kids mimic what they see. Sure there are outliers and exceptions; but they still learn from the world around them.
im so done with seeing articles about kids and screen time that doesnt mention parent behaviors even once. “kids are always on their phones” so are the parents! which the kids look to for how they should behave! ipad babies didn’t chose to only play on their ipads, thats what their parents gave them!
an anecdotal example: when i was a kid, all my parents would do in their minimal free time was watch tv and then they would be surprised when in my sister and i’s minimal free time we would also only watch tv/play video games. they scolded us for not reading books, but they never read books. they scolded us for not going outside but they never went outside.
“kids are always on their damn phones” my mom is in her 60s and opens up candy crush anytime she’s sitting — it isnt just the kids

I'd like to add another element to this. I have known SEVERAL cases of people who neared their pension dates and were conveniently fired or laid off before they could retire. In a world with so many corporate policies which are termination worthy offenses and a lack of union representation to fight for people being singled out they find a rule to fit the firing and save themselves hundreds of thousands of dollars after milking someone for their entire life's work.
This is the employment equivalent of shooting a racehorse rather than paying feed and board after its running years are over. That doesn't even delve into company mergers and takeovers where they can buy the "assets" without the pension obligations and call it a new company.
Yeah pensions were great for the generation who was able to collect them and talk shit on the ones left with the fallout; but I'll happily take a shitty 401k substitute where I at least have to decide to fuck myself over to lose it.
