     It’s not the smell he expected, is the first thing to cross his mind when he enters the building. He braced himself for an overwhelming fragrance of incense or something of the like to cover up the scent of embalming fluids. Freshly infused tea and subtle candle-lit perfumes are a welcome distinction. As is the greeting of his host.

     Diluc is adept at doing his homework prior to meeting with people of importance, perhaps especially so when he plans to seek them out for personal matters rather than business. Yet Zhongli had eluded him; there was no information out there to get his hands on besides vague tell-tales of a mysterious individual, most knowledgeable of Liyue yet with no apparent ties to it, no family, no partners, nothing but a most respectful business that also somehow steered clear of influential people’s radars. Pushing to dig where he most certainly should not had brought Diluc winds of an interesting rumor, but he wasn’t here to see if there was any truth to it. 

     Still, coming face to face with a fellow gentleman does subvert his expectations just as well as the locale.

     “Thank you, for the warm welcome,” he nods, and mirrors the other’s gesture, having ever been taught to respect local customs, especially when aiming for healthy cooperation. “Yes, Liyue has been most…” He hesitates. “…interesting.” Truth be told, for all that he’s been here a minute, it’s safe to say Zhongli has already shown to be his most gracious host. The people of Liyue have proven to be a rather proud nation. Not that Diluc would have any qualms with it, if they weren’t so eager to cast stones at Mondstadt upon learning it’s where the young master hails from.

     A thought quickly swept aside, as he is not so easily offended. After all, he may not be native to the most prosperous country in Teyvat, Diluc estimates he still has more wealth to his name than most ( if not all ) of the rich local businessmen. He didn’t come here for his neighbors to pay him respect, anyway. “I trust this venue is suitable enough that we may speak in confidence, yes ?” A most subtle way to ask about the privacy he can expect from this place, as he hopes upcoming matters can stay between them.

The gesture that the young man returned in kind was wholly respectful, and Zhongli couldn’t help but approve of the other. After many thousands of years, despite keeping his contact with the common folk of Liyue relatively minimal, he liked to think that he was a good judge of character. After all, even if culture and common sense changes, people in general did not change much. Wise words remained wise, injustice always surfaced once more, and virtue could never be fully stamped out. From that long-aged judgement, Zhongli easily concluded that the young Ragnvindr was not someone to look down upon in any capacity.

"Of course. Please follow me to the private consultation room." A hand gestured past the lobby and further in towards a side room before Zhongli took the lead to their destination. Opening the door and respectfully allowing Diluc to enter first, he shut the door behind him. "Would you prefer the door be locked?"

He had a lot of questions, the main one being why it had to be him specifically and not any of the other people in Tartaglia’s retinue, but he had enough tact and liked living enough to not voice his question. While the youngest Harbinger tended to be more reasonable towards his subordinates than, say, Scaramouche or Il Dottore, Evgeni was very aware of the gap between them power-wise, whether it be in battle, in position, or in worth to the Fatui in general.

Birthday: This day isn’t actually my birthday… Even I don’t know when it is. I didn’t exactly keep track of the date when I was living alone on Cape Oath. But today is the day that those Favonius Knights found me and took me to the City of Mondstadt for the first time, so it’s a special day for me anyway. In a way, it’s like… my birthday of being a real person, rather than being alone. So… thank you. I’m happy to celebrate my birthday with you.
