Saw this on Twitter but wanted to boost!!!
Jeronica Endgame Analysis
I wrote this on Reddit and have been meaning to bring it over here. But commenting on @elizacinnamon's tumblr is what convinced me to do it. Buckle up because it's a long one!
Okay so, looking at all of the easter eggs in the episode, to me, it's heavily coded that Betty and Archie do end up together and that Jughead and Veronica end up together. The first thing that should be acknowledge is that everything in this episode is done with a purpose. They couldn't definitively say who Archie ended up with because Archie comics is predicated on the unanswered question of "Betty or Veronica?" so they had to make things "ambiguous" so people could come to their own conclusions.
When we hear of Veronica's life, Jughead says that she was known for her "impeccable taste" and "produced some of the most iconic movies of our time". So, right there, that's huge. That's a lot of heavy lifting. While he is complimentary and sensitive to everyone else's ending, the way he describes Veronica's life is just more. Take Fangs, he doesn't describe "Pixie Girl" as a "timeless" or "iconic" song. He just says that Midge and their daughter were taken care of and that his gold record will hang as long as there is a Riverdale High. He doesn't mention if Kevin or Clay won any awards for their work, but he says that Veronica won two Oscars. He goes out of his way to note the importance of Veronica's achievements.
The scene at The Babylonium is where I've found the most clues to their shared future. Jughead says "I always loved this theater". He doesn't say that about any of the other places they visit. Throughout the show, they regularly used characters to represent overarching themes. For example, Archie = Riverdale. I take Jughead's declaration to be a euphemism for Veronica. It's not that farfetched to believe that they fell in love while in high school. They were together for a year and a half before graduation. So, in the scene, he says "I always loved this theater. But it had a good run." At this time, in reality, both Veronica and Jughead have passed. Their run ended. He then lifts the seat and HIS CROWN is drawn under it! Why? This is a quick visual cue that he and Veronica are connected. If the Babylonium is a physical representation of Veronica (which is what the episode frames it as) then she essentially has a Jughead tattoo on her (a bit of a dramatic way of putting it lol). But, also this is not the first time something like that is in the show. In season 1 and 2, Betty wears a sweater with a yellow three pronged crown. It's universally recognized as Jughead's crown (she wears it on his birthday and in the Heather's musical episode). So, he makes his statement and BAM Veronica appears. Every time we see a character that isn't in the "relived day", it is a clip of them in the future. Veronica is the only character to essentially be an apparition. They didn't have to include her, but they did. And seeing as it's Narrator!Jughead (the real/angel Jughead is in the Pop's in the Sweet Hereafter, and the show literally ends with typewriter sounds) telling Betty all of this, Veronica's appearance can be taken as a clue that she is ever present in his mind/life.
When we see her in her office, she has four "The Comet" posters behind her. Hanging posters of the movies you made is very common. What isn't common is that one franchise has such a place of honor, so that means it's incredibly significant to her. Her clothing is in the style of the early 80s (the creators had an idea to bring everyone through time with each episode but it wasn't feasible so this is kind of a nod to that. Cheryl is seen in the late 60s, Betty in the 70s, and Veronica is the early 80s). We know that Jughead adapted The Comet into a comic book, and he was the one that introduced her to WEB DuBois' people. The artwork of the posters is the same as the comic he created. Making movies at that time was very time-consuming. Also, franchises like that were not common. The whole "Saga", "Trilogy", and "Universe" collections of today were not done to the same extent back then. So, not only was "The Comet" incredibly popular (because it got four movies) but it spanned over a large time frame (again, she still has the posters up decades after graduation via her clothing style), meaning that there was a consistent dialogue between Jughead and Veronica.
Outside of the Babylonium is a poster for "The Big Sleep" (It's also on the Marquis). This is a direct reference to the episode "The Red Dahlia" (3x14) where Veronica enlists Jughead's help. It is one of the main "Jeronica" episodes of the series. In that episode he says that he'll be her "Philip Marlowe". In The Big Sleep, Philip Marlowe is the main character played by Humphrey Bogart. In the same episode he says "Nice hat... Bacall." Lauren Bacall is the female lead of The Big Sleep. Bogart and Bacall were a huge draw for audiences. They were a power couple of their day (and they were also married... hint hint lol). They were the Bennifer and Brangelina first.
Now, moving onto Jughead. He doesn't talk much about himself. Everything that Betty says can literally be read on screen in his obituary. There are two main takeaways from this scene. The first is he barely talks about himself. When he does, he focuses on talking about his career and there's no mention of his personal life. This is a parallel to Veronica's description. He only describes her career and not her personal life. What is also a parallel is that in his summary of Veronica's life he says that she was known for "taking risks on young, raw talent" ie Jughead. Jughead tells Betty that he "put all of his eggs in one basket". That turn of phrase is to mean that you did the riskiest thing possible. When Betty asks if he ever regrets not getting circled he says 'sometimes'. It's a very ambiguous statement. BH shippers will say that he is talking about Betty. But his relationship with Betty ended in high school (both times) and were never rekindled later in life. It doesn't have to be that regrets not marrying Veronica, but it can be taken that way.
The second is on the artist easel in the Madhouse offices. There is a picture of Veronica. It is not a photograph it is the canonical comic book portrait of Veronica (Pep Comics IS Archie Comics). And it is smack dab in the middle of the easel. This is another parallel to Veronica's future. She has "The Comet" posters and he has her portrait. Remember, his first comic book line that he created was "Veronica: The Teenage Witch". So this is a clue that he has used Veronica's likeness IN his magazine for most, if not all of, the run. There's no picture of Betty or Archie. Why still have Veronica's portrait and use her likeness if they weren't still connected in real life?
Now we come to the final scene. So, throughout all of Riverdale (with a few exceptions) the milkshakes that the core four drink all correspond to their hair color. Betty = Vanilla, Archie = Strawberry, Jughead and Veronica = Chocolate (double chocolate to be specific - which can be extrapolated to represent them. It's a stretch but it can be made). In the final moments, we see that this formula has been flipped. When Betty sits in the booth, Archie is drinking a Vanilla milkshake and he hands Betty a strawberry one noting it's "her favorite". What are Jughead and Veronica drinking? Double chocolate milkshakes. If in the Barchie Endgame theory Strawberry being Betty's "favorite" is to mean "Archie" then we can apply that same logic to Jughead and Veronica. Then there is their seating arrangement. The girls on one side and the boys on the other. Betty is sitting directly in front of Archie and Veronica is sitting directly in front of Jughead. Again, because they had to keep the "Who will Archie choose?" answer ambiguous they use this blocking technique to show the pairings without the pair sitting right next to each other. (Couples either sit next to each other or across from one another.)
That is my analysis of the finale using clues to prove that Jughead and Veronica were "endgame". I hope you liked it! If you have any corroborating theories let me know!

And then they had him go off with her for tour and we never saw him again 🥲 why did they do him like that I miss Sweet Pea so much
Tumblr media
So, of course I love Swangs and SweetVee but I can fuck with this!!! Romantic ass Sweet Pea? GIVE IT TO ME. Flirty Josie? GIVE IT TO ME. Finally some canon romantic Sweet Pea that we can use in fics? GIVE IT TO ME.
Besides, Ashleigh said that it’s kind of just a fun, flirty thing between them and I think it’s pretty cute.
However if Sweet Pea somehow ends up hurt and has to shove it down because he’s a tough Serpent who can’t show emotion, I’m fighting RAS.

thinking of remaking this but better 👀
The Smooching Booth - SweetVee
Many people knew that Veronica Lodge loved anything to do with fashion; she loved putting together outfits that made a person look and feel like a million bucks, she loved finding the right accessories to accentuate someone’s personality and flair, and she loved seeing how confident and exuberant they became after she was finished. However, what most people didn’t know was that Veronica Lodge was the actual owner of Sweetie’s Boutique, the store known for it’s glamorously affordable clothing and accessories.
The business did well, for the most part… until Hiram Lodge went to jail for the second time and took everything the Lodge name owned down the toilet with his reputation. People had found out who owned Sweetie’s Boutique, and suddenly, all Veronica apparently cared about was using the money from the store to front a more criminal business, just like her father. It wasn’t true, but Veronica couldn’t stop the citizens of Riverdale from thinking that way. Nothing she could really say or do would change that unless they actually decided to think for themselves and recognize the fact that she isn’t a bad person like they all agreed that she was.
To keep her business afloat, she needed more supplies and more money to advertise and promote her business, promote herself away from her father and his criminal ways. Of course, she couldn’t just go and ask for a donation because everyone believed that she took after her father. So, instead, she used another tactic, one that was expected of her. She used her sex appeal, opening up a kissing booth to rake in quick cash.
Veronica was actually excited to put the kissing booth together. Albeit, Betty thought it was absolutely stupid, but Veronica passed it off as her being bitter for it not involving her in any way. Now that Veronica had taken some time to think about her past, her relationships with other people, and generally the direction in which her life was going, it was made clear to her just how Betty treated her, and she was surprised that she had never noticed it before. She was always the one to apologize, even though she didn’t need to—but no more. She was Veronica Cecilia Lodge, goddammit, and she didn’t need toxic people in her life bringing her down anymore.
During her process of planning the kissing booth, even though she hadn’t even asked, the Serpents were eager to help. Fangs oversaw the social aspect of it  — hyping it up and making sure that everybody knew about it. Because he was social and inviting, yet dark and mysterious thanks to his role in the Serpents, many were eager to come. Veronica Lodge was an out bisexual woman, so everyone knew that she wouldn’t mind who came to the booth and had to kiss her as long as she was given the five dollars for a kiss.
Sweet Pea helped put the actual booth together, while also being overseen by Fangs and Veronica for the style and colors. It was his secret that he actually loved to draw, and he desperately wished they would have included him, but nobody knew about that side of him, so he couldn’t blame them for thinking that he wouldn’t care about decorating the kissing booth.
“Well, boys, thank you for helping me make sure that The Smooch Booth was done by homecoming. It really means a lot, you guys,” Veronica brought the two boys into a group hug, allowing herself a couple of moments before she realized how uncomfortable Sweet Pea felt showing affection in public. So, in respect, she let go and placed her hands on her hips as she faced the finished booth. The Smooch Booth, just to be a bit different, was her pride and joy — after Sweetie’s Boutique, of course. “I wonder if anyone will specifically ask for one of you two. You two are still a part of the booth, right?”
“Uh, definitely,” Sweet Pea nodded excitedly. “Why would we back out now?”
“Because i’m Veronica Lodge, daughter of a criminal who almost tore all of Riverdale apart by the seams even more than it already was,” Veronica shrugged. “You boys… if I didn’t have you, I don’t know where I would be right now. Probably going insane in some asylum in Greendale, or something.”
“Oh, mi carino,” Fangs gently swiped his thumb across the girl’s cheek, his lips twitching up in a sympathetic smile. “People are just afraid that they’ll have to go through what your father did to them again. You are loved, you just have to show them that you’re not daddy’s little girl anymore.”
“How can I do that when i’m either Hiram Lodge’s daughter, or a pathetic ex-socialite who’s using her sex appeal to get money since her and her mother dont have enough money that isn’t accumulated from the blood and monstrous agendas he had?” Veronica sighed, looking between the two in hopes that, somehow, they had the miraculous answer to her problems.
“Simple: you become the boss ass bitch we all knew and loved before you closed yourself off after people started becoming Betty’s in front of your face,” Sweet Pea crossed his arms. “But, hey, if no one pitches in to take the one and only chance to kiss you, the Serpent’s got your back. We may be poor, but being able to sneak a smooch from the Veronica Lodge? Hell, that’s worth five bucks.”
“Don’t tell Josie, but I think Sweet Pea may have a tiny crush on you,” Fangs snickered, wiggling his eyebrows until Sweet Pea bumped his shoulder into his best friend’s arm. He hissed at the contact, yet somehow still had that silly smirk playing on his lips. He continued lowly, “oh, come on, like you haven’t gazed at Veronica longingly.”
“Okay, well, i’m going to go and get some rest. Now that it’s finally done, I feel like I can breathe a bit better again,” Veronica awkwardly sent the two a tight lipped smile before she backed away and exited the room, leaving them alone. She knew they would take her exit the wrong way, like she didn’t have some feelings for Sweet Pea, but now her mind was plagued with him.
The following weeks, he was on her mind. She barely was able to sleep with her mind constantly bringing him back up, little moments they had previous shared, things that he had said to her; she desperately wanted to get some sleep for once, to enjoy the peace and quiet, the darkness of her bedroom, but there he was, taking up every single thought in her mind like always.
When she had first befriended the Serpents, she knew that there had always been some weird connection between her and Sweet Pea — almost like an automatic sense of loyalty and trust, and whatever the bond was, exactly, it was intense and enticing. It wasn’t tangible, but definitely real, and potentially dangerous. Together, the two of them could be a force to be reckoned with. It was obvious to everybody… but them, of course.
Veronica squeezed her eyes shut, desperately hoping that her mind would focus on the uncomfortable irritating pain instead of Sweet Pea, but she couldn’t escape. All she saw was the six foot three giant, staring at her with his intense, dark pain-riddled eyes. His tousled locks was carefully styled, almost as if it were specifically for her. He was breathtaking, and it made her want him more than ever.
These feelings seemed to have come from nowhere, but deep down she knew that she had always felt something for the Serpent. It was in the way they respected one another, their opinions and feelings, it was in the way the two cared for each other, it was in the way they seemed to exist perfectly to balance each other out.
She knew she would never get any sleep if she didn’t get all of this unresolved feelings out. Even if he didn’t reciprocate, Sweet Pea had to know.
Rolling to the side with a soft groan, Veronica picked up her cell phone and glared at the brightness that flooded her eyes. She hastily turned it down before finding her way towards her contacts, hoping her phone call didn’t wake up and that she could simply leave a voicemail instead.
But after five rings, she internally cursed herself when it stopped, indicating that he had answered.
“Sweet Pea? I’m so sorry to bother you—”
“—Is there something wrong?” Sweet Pea interrupted, his voice alert, ready to spring to action. Veronica smiled at the realization that he would come to help her if she was in trouble, no questions asked as if she was one of the Serpents. It made her feel important and cared for, which she hadn’t felt in a long time.
“No, nothing’s… wrong,” Veronica gulped. “I kind of wished you didn’t answer so that I could simply leave a voice mail, but I can’t sleep and I know that I won’t be able to until I get this off of my chest.”
Sweet Pea was definitely confused, and incredibly concerned, but he urged her to continue, “okay…”
“Since we have met, I’ve always felt this weird connection with you. I’m not entirely sure what it is, but it’s so fucking powerful. I mean, if I had the money we used to have, I would give it to you, and to Fangs, and Toni, and the entire South Side if I could just so you wouldn’t have to hate life for giving you such a bad fucking hand,” Veronica took in a shaky breath, glancing up at her moon-illuminated ceiling, trying to keep her emotions in check. “And it’s obvious that you care for me as well. No one has ever shown me true friendship, loyalty, and trust like you have, and I appreciate you so much for that.”
Veronica paused for a couple of moments, gathering her thoughts.
“Look, i’ll cut to the chase because I know it’s late and I just woke you up and I feel incredibly bad, but I really fucking like you, Sweet Pea. I love that you’re loyal, and caring, and protective of everyone you care for and I’m so glad that I am one of those people. I love how you’ve slowly opened up to me and shown me your gentle, kind side. I love how will fuck anybody up with one wrong look. I… I don’t just like you. I fucking love you and that terrifies me so fucking much.”
Veronica ended the call, panicking like she never had before. She had never felt so scared, so nervous; when she was flirting with someone she was confident because she knew that they wanted her, but with Sweet Pea, she had no idea if he would like her.
Hearing her breath hitch in her throat, and her heart pound like a drum in her chest, she knew the feeling of fear would keep her from sleeping. She wanted to tell him all of this to allow herself the comfort to sleep, but she didn’t realize the effect Sweet Pea had on her was so strong. She wasn’t going to be able to sleep, and even though the opening of The Smooch Booth was tomorrow and desperately needed to not look like a dead zombie, she fled to one of the only places she felt safe: Pop’s Chock’Lit Shoppe.
Veronica entered Riverdale High, stretching out her fingers nervously as she flickered her gaze across everybody in the hallway. Sweet Pea wasn’t there — she wanted to do everything she could to ignore him. Of course, later when she was stuck at the booth, she had no choice, but at least she would have to be focused on collecting the money and kissing her classmates. There wouldn’t be much time to talk to Sweet Pea.
“Kevin!” Veronica smiled at her friend, greeting him with a big grin. He returned it, quickly giving her a small side hug before they began their waltz to their lockers. “I’m so nervous and excited to reveal The Smooch Booth.”
“Who isn’t? Ever since I got here, you’re all people have talked about,” Kevin explained. “Everyone is tweeting about your booth.”
“Seriously?” Veronica dropped her mouth in awe, honestly not expecting this kind of publicity. She expected more hate than love for her idea to raise money for Sweetie’s Boutique. “Wow… I thought everybody hated me.”
“Some do hold your father’s doing against you, but these past few weeks, doing all of this work yourself and being so determined, that many have come to give you another chance!” Kevin stated. “I’m so excited for tonight.”
“Me, too.”
Hearing what Kevin had informed her of, she felt relieved. Maybe now people would stop boycotting her store and allow her to have more of an income to survive. It’s all she ever wanted, it’s why she did this in the first place.
All throughout the day, people had expressed their excitement for her booth. Despite the fear she felt last night, she was currently content with her life for once and she looked forward to being able to get out of her rut.
The day seemed like an awkward mix between too short, or too long while she was ignoring Sweet Pea and Fangs as much as she could, all while hyping up her booth more than ever.
Finally, it was time to unveil.
Veronica introduced, “hello, boys and girls! With the help of the Serpents, The Smooch Booth would never have been completed as quick as it was without them, so make sure to express your thanks to them. Prepare your lips, boys and girls… Veronica Lodge is open for smooching.”
She figured that it would be weird to kiss her classmates, but, honestly… it wasn’t that bad. Sometimes it was a bit awkward because they would try to deepen the kiss and go into a full on makeout session, but Fangs and Sweet Pea were both there to keep people from doing just that.
Kiss after kiss after kiss, she knew Sweet Pea’s eyes were on her. And seeing the line slowly dissipate made her worry about Sweet Pea having the time to corner her into talking about what she had revealed to him.
As Veronica twisted the cap of her water bottle to take a quick drink before the next customer, Fangs spoke to the small crowd around the booth, “sorry, everybody. Veronica is going on break, meaning that somebody else will be taking her spot. Come back in about five minutes!”
Veronica tensed, forcing herself into a harsh coughing fit as she tried to gain back her ability to breathe right. “Fangs, I still have thirty minutes!”
“One of us will have thirty extra minutes, then,” Sweet Pea muttered. “You hung up on me, and ignored me all day, so I haven’t been able to tell you that I fucking love you, too, Veronica.”
She froze in shock. “W-What?”
“Yeah. I fucking love you, too,” Sweet Pea laughed lightly. “And I would have told you that last night, but you chose to hang up on me, and then ignore me all day. So, i’m doing it here.”
Veronica’s cheeks were a bright pink, full of embarrassment.
“I love your confidence. It matches mine; you’re blunt, to the point, and unlike other girls who have giggled and twirled their hair, you’re a challenge and I like that I had to work to find out more about you,” Sweet Pea smirked down at her, placing his hands on her hips as he slowly brought her closer to him. “I love that you give off confidence, yet you are an incredibly vulnerable person who manages to hide your insecurities just about as tightly as I do. I just love everything about you, and how you make me fucking crazy.”
“Where’s Betty when you need her? This has to be on the front page of the Blue and Gold!” Kevin explained.
“She can add in how much healthier of a couple we are. Maybe we can give her and Jughead some tips,” Veronica teasingly cocked her eyebrow. “I can’t wait to see the look on Jughead’s face when I walk into Pop’s and kiss Sweet Pea. He’s going to hate it.”
Sweet Pea smirked. “Sounds like a fun idea… let’s do it.”

It also makes it worse considering later Stydia don’t even act like they’re together… like they seemed like a divorced couple pretending to still be together to keep up pretenses for whatever reason. And then not stay together in the movie (which we know why but still), it just makes them tearing apart their best relationships for no reason even worse
since jeff decided to make stydia finally happen in 6a instead of making scott remember stiles—the right option—, i'd rather have scott be taken by the ghost riders and malia saving him at the end. that would be a better romance to see. i really don't like how it brought back stiles being malia's anchor and her crying remembering him so we have NOTHING when stiles actually got saved by lydia. it's so unfair to malia. stiles meant something to her, he was her anchor, and that was just forgotten bc stydia had to happen at the last minute. it's ridiculous. why make stalia happen if u gonna put her through crying and hurting just bc stiles had a (creepy) obsession with lydia since day one—god forbid he moves on from that like a normal person!

idk if anyone cares but I actually did start a drabble using this outline,,,,,,,,,,,,, and I will be sobbing until the end of time thank you that is all :)
maybe it was @circlemidnight who predicted that Veronica was gonna leave town, ignoring Jughead when they come back to the present? i can't stop thinking about this scenario:
Jughead and Veronica holding hands as they jump back to the present, and everyone finds themselves in front of Pop's, confused, back in their present body and outfits, and Tabitha is there at the entrance, and Jughead immediately runs to her, not even looking at Veronica
when Veronica sees Jughead and Tabitha embracing, she suddenly feels miserable, and that's when it hits her: they were together in that timeline they left, not even a minute ago, but now she's gotta push those feelings deep deep down for their sake
she looks around, seeing everyone hugging each other, and she feels so alone, not belonging, so she quietly slips away
Jughead is so happy seeing Tabitha, and asks her what happened, how did she bring them back, because "I was just talking with Veronica, and there was a light, then -" and then he stops because he suddenly remembers. Veronica.
He looks back, eyes searching the crowd, but she's nowhere to be seen, and when he turns back to Tabitha, and she's teary-eyed as she smiles at him. He can only say her name, in apology, in desperation, in confusion, and she says, voice close to crying "I know, Jughead, I saw everything. And I knew there risks when I erased your memory"
it's a torturous conversation, and Jughead swears to make everything right, Tabitha tells him to find Veronica, because she's all alone, so he goes, to talk to her, what he's gonna say, he doesn't know
Veronica is already packing to leave town, when she hears a knock on the door. It's Jughead, and he asks to be let in, so she does so, but can't look him in they eye as she continues to pack
and jeez, it got so long already in my head i think I just gotta write the rest in a fic.

I don't know if this helps your view of 6A, but I never thought while watching the season that Lydia was upset simply because of Stiles. For three months she knows something is true and everyone around her, even the fabric of reality tells her she wrong, she's crazy, she unbalanced. Her story was about a girl who was essentially gaslighted by the entire universe, fighting against that manipulation, finding clues and eventually proving to herself and others she was right.
That’s an interesting perspective, and I do get where you’re coming from. “Gaslighted by the universe” is an extremely apt description of how the Ghost Riders/the Wild Hunt works.
The thing is, though, she’s been through psychological trauma, brainwashing, and even gaslighting before, and yes, she’s broken down crying before - but those were always mere moments, in the process of her continuing to be herself and dominate her surroundings.
In Season 2, she had a mental breakdown and was publicly humiliated (due to her naked, 3-day run in the woods), but strode into school with her head held high. In Season 3, someone strangled her and she refused to hide the bruises. In Season 4, with her grandmother’s house going up for sale and her powers wreaking havoc with her perception of reality, she never became this melodramatic. In Season 5, when she was catatonic and trapped in her own mind, we also see her fighting her circumstances, learning how to utilize her powers, and it was Malia being in danger that brought her out of her catatonia.
Season 6 undermines a lot of that. She talks about Stiles to the other banshee, who has no reason to know who he is, and at a point where bringing him up in the conversation was almost nonsensical and definitely unnecessary. Contrasted with the fact Malia and Scott were drowning in the basement, it was particularly jarring - and this was the episode in which we saw the least melodrama from Lydia. Ranging from a truly, unnecessarily excessive number of crying scenes, to the way her voice seems to always crack when she’s talking about Stiles as if she’s about to cry, the entire Stydia arc in Season 6A was extremely melodramatic - which is frustrating, given that snarky banter “normal”/human/non-superpowered badassery has always been among the defining hallmarks of their relationship.

i adore your takes on stalia and i agree with all of them. stiles was completely and utterly in love with malia. their bond was just too strong to ignore and downplay as hard as so many in the fandom do. malia would love stiles for the smallest of things, appreciate and adore him every time they’re together, something stiles wasn’t used to and was always surprised knowing he’s someone’s priority, to have someone that he knows loves him so much and is so dearly loyal to him the way he was to her. I can talk about each and every one of their scenes for hours because one line has so much deeper meaning in it always when you look through its context. stiles would get mistreated and judged, he had to be the coolest guy to even get lydia’s attention. when stiles approached her wanting to get to know each other better she wasn’t even listening and rudely said “is it worth repeating?” meanwhile malia would go out of her way to notice what’s wrong with him after the donovan incident and he would just not say anything because he was so afraid of judgment. so afraid that he would lose the ones he love when malia had made it clear she would never judge him ever since they first properly met at eichen house. “i won’t judge, promise.” to malia saying “it didn’t matter to me, that’s why i never said anything.” malia knew when stiles didn’t answer her question about his shoulder that he needed time alone and wasn’t ready to open up, and she gave him that. stiles in 5.01 says how constantly gets anxious

and begins to open up about his issue after she was worried first and reached out to ask him and listen to him again. she highlights how stiles thinks stuff “obsessively” and that means she knew him too well. and was always there whenever he needed that support. malia understood after he he spoke about his dad losing contact to everyone from high school that that’s the reason he wanted everyone together that day, “because you don’t wanna lose all your friends after senior year.” says malia and stiles responds with “and i hope they don’t wanna lose me either.” referring to malia specifically at that point because malia smiles and they kiss. he said “what if scott is my best friend now, but he’s not my best friend for life.” stiles straight up said he wanted malia in his life as his girlfriend. like literally forever. and malia wanted that as well.
that cure scene in 4.11 where malia noticed how stiles was helping her looking for her biological mother, in his board written “who is the desert wolf?” and the second she did she flipped him waking him up in the cutest way, stiles thought she would probably mind him not brush his teeth but she didn’t. and the look on his face when she said she didn’t care is so precious, he is shocked she would say that, like asking her “really?” and then his soft smile before they kiss again, they’re just always so sweet and gentle with each other. there are so so many more scenes of theirs i can mention that shows just how effortlessly in love stiles was with malia. they deserved that endgame. s6 is awful, which is glad it flopped, the ratings are embarrassingly low and for a reason. people can tell when something is forced. and both dylan and shelley were disappointed by how stalia broke up and wished both for them to stay together forever.
I am SO sorry for not answering, I swear I thought I did! But yes, you're right on all accounts!
He had absolute trust in her, seen when he stayed with her on the full moon when her chains broke. He was her anchor, he brought her back. And he knew she was strong enough to control her shift. And just that scene. Like she, indirectly of course because it wasn't her fault she was just a small child, caused her mom and sister to die because she couldn't control her shift. And she was terrified of that happening again and Stiles heard that, validated her, but still stayed because he KNEW she was strong enough and wouldn't hurt him.
He couldn't even sleep without her! Stiles went through A Lot. He has lots of trauma himself and she helped him feel safe enough to sleep. That's why the position of her spooning him was the only one he could get comfortable in. Stiles took care of a lot because of his love for Scott, but he really didn't have anyone taking care of him. Now a lot of that was because he didn't open up (and in Scott's defense, I'm a Scott McCall stan first lol, he had like so so much going on himself, it makes sense he wasn't really able to keep up with everyone, though he also tried) but Malia kinda saw through that. Like I don't even know if she realized what she offered Stiles, but she was def his safe space. The sleeping scene showed that. And he was her safe space, as established by the chain breaking full moon scene.
Like S5 started and he flat out said his life plans included being with Malia. That was "the plan" and that's when Malia was like "I love the plan, especially cause I'm in it!" Like how Allison planned to be with Scott past college, Stiles planned being with Malia.
For the absolute life of me I don't understand why they broke them up. And not just broke them up, but in such a bullshit way. Like the breakup scene wasn't even a breakup scene? It wasn't mentioned at all that they were done. Even Shelley had to be told "oh yeah y'all broke up" and she was like ...umm did I act that scene out? Which means it wasn't even explicitly clear in the script, ffs. But they still had to me tied. Malia's bio mom legit went after Stiles cause she knew that was how to get to Malia. And then Stiles flat out attacked her trying to help Malia when she was fighting with her mom. Like they were still very much each other's person!
I didn't watch S6. I watched 601 and that was it. I did notice how they literally had Malia in Stiles's clothes in 601 and still had him do the "i love you" to Lydia and was like???
I said, since S2, that if they ever put Stiles and Lydia together I was out. And when that happened, I was out. Which still pisses me off because I genuinely love this show. I own S1-5 on DVD! I didn't even really keep up with it on tumblr back then. I would occasionally check the tag but everything I heard was so outlandish, not even just Stalia related, that I was just like "well this show only had 5 seasons, such a shame it was cancelled after only 5 seasons." I didn't even know the ratings were THAT BAD until like right before the movie came out. And I let out a hearty chuckle when I found that out. Couldn't even clear 500k viewers.
Tumblr media
And what you said about Dylan is so true! He was always like "I think Malia's it for Stiles." "Stiles loves Malia." "Stiles should end up with Malia." "I still love Stiles and Malia together." And Shelley also thought they should be together. She's dropped the "coyotes mate for life" line. And fun fact, Holland didn't like Stiles and Lydia either. No one wanted that ship except people that wouldn't move on from S1/2!Stiles. And not even those seasons!Lydia cause she could not have cared less about Stiles then. They were never even close! Never! It made no sense! lol
Anyway. Yes. I agree with you on how Stalia was IT. And it made no sense to throw that away for ratings, they were never going to get.

STILES ENDS UP ABANDONING MALIA???? (I'm reading your Stalia meta and loving it, but THIS HAPPENED???? IT'S CANON? Ridiculous.)
YEAH IT'S SO STUPID and the context makes it even more
So basically in season 5 Stiles kills this dude Donovan in self defence and he is wrapped up in self hatred and shame for it. He keeps it a secret from everyone – Scott, his dad, Malia. So, in 5x10, Malia picks Stiles up after his jeep broke down following an argument with Scott about Donovan (where thanks to the villain of the season Scott thinks that Stiles brutally murdered him in cold blood) and takes him to the Sheriff's Station (where his dad works).
As Stiles is about to get out of the car Malia stops him by saying that she knows what happened with Donovan. She's figured it out on her own. Then Stiles asks her why she didn't say anything, she says "It didn't matter to me" Stiles responds by saying "It matters to me" then he gets out of the car AND THAT'S THEIR FUCKING BREAKUP. THAT VAUGE ASS SHIT IS THEIR BREAKUP SCENE. Like, most people watching that shit didn't even realize that's what it was until Malia tells Scott she thinks they broke up later.
And, like, I love Stiles, but this is the closest I ever get to fucking hating him. "It matters to me" SHUT THE FUCK UP YOU KNOW THAT'S NOT WHAT SHE MEANT. When Malia said "It didn't matter to me" she did NOT mean "It's not important" she meant "I still love you". Just like Stiles still loved her despite her killing her mom and sister during a full moon she still loves him despite him having killed Donovan. THAT'S what's she's trying to tell him. And Stiles is smart enough to know this, but instead he purposefully interprets her words in the worst possible way as an excuse to leave her.
Now, I'm gonna write this more eloquently when I finally write my meta piece about how I think Stiles was more in love with Malia than she was with him that I've been planning forever, but I'm of the unpopular opinion that this was actually in character for him.
The gist is, Stiles and Malia's love is real. It's messy and intimate and real. Stiles knows in that moment that Malia is gonna let him sit with his grief and his pain and work through it, just like he's done for her. If he stays with Malia this is an inevitability, so he leaves because it's the only way he can escape processing his pain. He escapes back into his childhood crush on Lydia because it's a comfort, being back with Lydia makes him feel like he's back in a time before things got so complicated and messy, a time when his hands were clean (it's Dan avoiding Vanessa and escaping to Serena after losing Milo). Despite me never having been interested in st/ydia, I definitely see the appeal of them and I do think there was a good way to have them be done in canon, but this was NOT it. This gifset + accompanying tags by @bericas is very relevant. I've also written meta about this from Malia's P.O.V before.
This whole thing truly is my villain origin story.

How do you think Malia found out about Stiles’ crush on Lydia?
Did someone tell her? If so, who? Was it Stiles who told her because he felt like she had the right to know, but reassured her that it was a thing of the past? Or, the more likely scenario, did she find out in a different way? This isn’t anything against Stiles, though. If he didn’t tell her I’m sure it was only because he didn’t wanna risk losing her. Here is this girl, this stunning and amazing girl, who likes him for him. Who wants him. Sure, she has some issues, a lot of them, actually, but he is willing to help her work through them because she actually wants him. Why would he risk that by telling her about this hopeless crush on a girl who never wanted him back?
Do you think Scott joked about it one day? Just a spur of the moment, a teasing joke that just slipped out, not even thinking about that Stiles’ new girlfriend, or whatever she was at that moment, was standing right next to him? Do you think she heard how both Lydia and Stiles’ hearts started beating faster at the comment? Did she notice how Stiles’ cheeks reddened ever so slightly and how Lydia averted her eyes? When Stiles looked at her face to gauge her reaction, did she look away, and pretend everything was fine, hoping that Stiles was fooled by her nonchalant expression?
Do you think Malia ever watched Lydia in math class, impressing everyone with her knowledge and understanding of the subject? How do you think she felt when Lydia answered a question she couldn’t, or didn’t even understand? Did she ever watch Lydia speak to her classmates, flirt with boys and converse with strangers so flawlessly that it almost felt like a foreign language to her? Did she ever think that this, this was the girlfriend Stiles really wanted?
What if her worries faded after a while, though? As Stiles continued to prove to her what he’d promised, that he’d never leave her behind, was in fact the truth? He called her, he cared for her, he helped her. Surely, she knew he would only do that if he cared about her? Despite everything, she was Stiles’ girlfriend, not Lydia. She had chosen him and he had chosen her. After a while, did she stop listening to Stiles’ heartbeat whenever he and Lydia spoke or touched, because there simply wasn’t anything to hear anymore? Did she ever realize that all that time she spent looking at Lydia, Stiles was looking at her?
How do you think she felt when Stiles started pulling away from her? She knew why. She was smart enough to put it together. The only thing she didn’t know was exactly why he didn’t tell her. Was he afraid it would change her view of him? She could understand that, but of course it wouldn’t. How could it? She still blamed herself for her family’s death, and Stiles had only killed one person who threatened his dad’s life. He was still a better person than she would ever be. And no matter what he did, no matter how many people he killed, she would always love him. But she didn’t know how to tell him that. They hadn’t even said those three words yet. So instead, she waited for him to tell her, hoping that he would, eventually.
But he didn’t. He didn’t tell her anything, and on top of that he was getting worse. He pulled away from her even more. So she decided to take the initiative and lets him know that she knows. He asks her why, and maybe, for a moment, she had the courage to say those three little words to him… but the moment passes. She can’t. Not when he’s looking at her like that. Hurt. She realized he wasn’t going to say it back. So she tells him part of the truth, it didn’t matter me, hoping that he would understand the hidden meaning behind her words.
But he doesn’t.
Instead, he does what he promised he would never do. He leaves her behind.
And she can’t even bring herself to be mad at him for it. Cause didn’t she do the exact same thing? She had left without him and broken his heart first. How could she be mad at him for doing the same?
Do you think she started listening to Stiles’ and Lydia’s heartbeat again? Do you think she noticed the resurfaced red cheeks and averted eyes? Does she notice how now, every time she was looking at Stiles, he was looking at Lydia, breaking her heart all over again?
Malia Tate deserved better
