You know, I don't think I'll ever get over how many Ballum stories EE just either gave up on, fumbled or missed completely. I still can't believe they built up countless times to a Callum PTSD story and just never followed through. Not to mention brushing over Ben's deafness once it stopped being a story they could point at and say "hey look, aren't we cool. Look at this cool episode we did." They rushed through his whole cochlear implant. Not even caring that it made no fucking sense for Ben to get it during lockdown. Honestly, EastEnders never appreciated Ballum as much as we did.

thinking about dean growing up and putting everything before himself. hunting and his brother and his dad and his dad’s revenge quest for their mom. he doesn’t matter. he is entirely irrelevant. thinking about dean internalising this as just what you do, just how people behave and how they should behave. him viewing selfish as the worst thing you can possibly be.

then thinking about sam growing up and fighting. brave enough to challenge their father and rebel against him and voice something different, brave enough to focus on what he wants. dean seeing this and it stings - he could never do that. how is sam acting like that? he can’t believe that’s the right way to behave. so sam must be selfish, just in believing he has any right to his own life.

dean sublimates himself for the family and expects sam to do the fame, and his resentment and jealousy that sam doesn’t turns into anger and making sam out to be the mean one, the one in the wrong. and this never goes away. this is always what dean levels at sam - that he’s selfish, that in wanting to make his own choices he’s rejecting their family, rejecting dean……. awful. toxic. evil evil message to send to sam. entirely in character. dean wants to prioritise sam, would save him over the world. but he doesn’t care what sam wants.

selflessness isn’t always a charming character trait. it’s not the same thing as a generosity of spirit and it’s definitely not the same thing as being caring. sometimes selflessness just means you’re incapable of prioritising your life and incapable of understanding how anyone else could or should prioritise theirs. sometimes it means you still act selfishly, you just convince yourself you were objectively in the right, because doing something actually for yourself is unthinkable. sometimes it means you think the very act of having wants and boundaries is selfish, no matter whether they’re yours or anyone else’s.

anyway… thoughts on dean’s specific brand of awfulness regarding sam. what does it matter to him what sam actually wants? since when did it ever matter in the winchester household what anyone wanted? dean had to deal with things he didn’t want for the mission (for john). sam has to deal with things he doesn’t want for the mission (for dean). augh. the cycles

What kind of father calls their kids brats etc/ makes them feel like they in the wrong for how they deal with it etc, when they dealing with the grief of losing their mum down to the kid he continues to protect. He also tried murder his son and ends up shooting him and Andy still comes before his real kids it like wtf? Jack didn't want Andy in first place but then suddenly all over him and Andy laps it up. Yet he disowns Robert and pretty much makes out Andy the victim in their fued and his in the wrong smfh and Andy sits back and does nothing. I always believe Andy went out his way to push Robert out and if Robert been adopted too he thrown Robert out a long time ago. I think Jack only kissed Andy ass because he was into farming and Robert wasn't but his a great dad hey????

Jack really was POS, he also dismissive of Victoria grief when truth come about Sarah and even referred to her being a brat when she acted out as well. Yet excused Andy of all his behaviour like WTF man. It weird how harsher been on his real kids for their behaviour which was sort of triggered by Andy in first place. Yet turned blind eye on Andy setting a fire to a barn and to Andy sittting inside a caravan when he planned to kill Robert and/or possibly Katie and doesn't even check who it is when he fires the gun wtf??? he also turns blind eye to him sleeping with underage girls, cheating on Katie. he then goes on to beat his wife, I sure Jack would still stuck up for Andy? he then conspires with Ross to kill Robert along with Pete. But Robert the bad guy for driving Andy to it, yet could argue he driven Robert to acting out, he usurped Robert place as Jack son ripped away the only mum he ever known he and Jack both treated Robert like crap but he reacts his the bad guy and Andy the victim smfh. Andy was not even Jack's real kid. Jack actually did not want Andy in the beginning. I really can't stand Jack and Andy whole superiority with Robert, is like please he only kissed your ass because you were into farming, Jack used say you were trouble Andy and bad infulence on Robert. Which is why it baffling Victoria is not more on Robert side? but then again i guess because Jack died and Andy all she really had along with Diane and Robert was gone and they were able to manipluate Victoria into thinking they good guys and Robert a selfish brat who chose walk out on them, when nah Jack and Andy pushed him out.
