I HC that courting between demons and between demons and humans are quite different.

Between two demons there’s so many traditions to show respect and what you can do and what not. Ya gotta establish dominance, that you can provide, that the union would be fitting for both families, etc.

Between a demon and a human? Yoink, you’re married now. You can work out the details later.

This is partly because humans live much shorter lives and are a helluva lot squishier so there’s no time to waste. If other demons catch wind that you’re trying to court a human than that’s an opportunity for them to weaken their enemies by attacking their human. Demons really can’t afford to just let their human be left alone, thus kidnapping and immediate marriage to establish that the human is part of their family and not to be messed with.

After the shotgun wedding tho things tend to cycle back to actual courting as demons do still want to establish themselves as good partners for their mates. Expect many many gifts and favors in the “honeymoon” phase from the more well-meaning demons as they realize that they’re starting from a…not great starting point.

I’d also be willing to be that there’s probably rituals that demons can do to extend to lives of their human S/O’s (think something along the lines of what the yellow robes demon was doing) that’s usually done during the marriage ceremony.

Good fukken luck lmao” *distant screams of kidnappers as loved one escapes* or the flipside: “We’ve kidnapped you!” “You are in so much trouble. You are in so much fucking trouble. You are in the most trouble ever, oh my god.” *DOOR EXPLODES INWARDS AS LOVED ONE ARRIVES* and the alternate: *vehicle pulls up, door opens, person is shoved out, door slams, vehicle screeches away* “Did you get kidnapped??” “For a minute yeah”
