Wow. Brings it full circle from book 1. J.K.Rowling is a genius!!
I’m rereading Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and it kinda hit me, the Centaurs knew that Harry would die. Firenze saves Harry and all the others get angry, saying they are not to set themselves against the heavens and points out “have we not read what is to come in the movements of the planets”. Firenze tells Harry before he leaves that he hopes they have read the planets wrong. Firenze, Bane and Ronan knew Harry Potter would die in that forest by the hand of Voldemort, only not when. So when Harry shows up in the forest and is nearly killed by Quirell and Voldemort that inhabits his body, Bane and Ronan believed this is what the planets meant. Firenze saving him goes against that. They were not angry he helped Harry but because they believe Firenze interfered what was foretold. Even Firenze refuses to tell Harry why they are angry, because he can’t bring himself to tell an 11 year old “you are supposed to die in here”. Of course, what no one knows is that the centaurs will be right. Harry will die in there by the hand of Voldemort, only that it will happen 6 years later.

I hardcore headcanon that Ed became something of a mythical figure to the Amestrian military (and probably Amestrian public) after the Promised Day
Like immediately afterward he goes home and stays home to help Al recover, then travels the West as like a scholar, then settles down with Winry and has kids–it’s pretty obvious he never went back to the military at any point during that, and that he’s stayed well and far out of the public eye.
So what’s that leave the military with? “Hey you heard of Edward Elric?” “Oh yeah isn’t he that dude who passed the state alchemy exam at 12, punched God in the face, toppled the whole military coup with Fuhrer Mustang, and vanished? Yeah he had a cubby here for like…4 years.”
And with so many people knowing half-truths about what really happened in Amestris, I fully believe that hundreds of fantastically stupid and marginally correct rumors spread about Ed. “I heard Ed Elric met God twice.” “I heard he’s the only person to ever successfully break the core law of alchemy.” “I heard he’s a 4,000 year old prophet who discovered immortality and that’s why he’s so skilled.” “I heard he fought a tank.” “I heard God personally took his limbs away and that’s why he’s half-metal.”  “I heard he actually invented alchemy.” “I heard he once beat up Fuhrer Mustang with his own hands.”
Like it’s the most central, prominent piece of small talk among new recruits–who knows the best little factoids about the child prodigy who hangs with God and saved the world and disappeared Jesus-style immediately after. Mustang walks out into press conferences, maximum security with reporters clamoring to lobby their questions at the leader of the entire nation, and somehow he always ends up with a flood of “Can you confirm?” tall tales about Ed.
“Fuhrer, is it true that Edward Elric discovered how to transmute his soul into a higher plane of existence and so he quit the military to achieve the status of a god?”
“Edward Elric is a 32 year old man who lives in a farmhouse out east and raises sheep part-time. Last I heard from him he was learning how to make raspberry pie and trying to teach his daughter how to count to 7. Who the hell feeds you this information? Next Question”

Most of the time, Ron gets on my nerves, but this... this right here is how he shines
Rest, Harry. Rest.
Rest
A drabble. Also on AO3 here.
Ron bounded down the steps to the shared eighth-year common room and turned the corner, then stopped abruptly.
Harry was sleeping in a cozy armchair near the fire, and Draco Malfoy was asleep in his lap.
Malfoy’s long legs were draped across the armrest. One arm looped behind Harry’s neck. Their heads were tilted toward each other, foreheads touching.
Ron stared, then inhaled deeply and prepared to holler for his roommate—or anyone—to come and look. But his “Seamus, you have got to see this!” died on the tip of his tongue as Ron looked more closely at his dearest, longest friend.
Harry looked, well, peaceful. Early morning light filtered in through the alabaster window panes and settled on the two sleeping figures. Harry’s chest rose and fell with slow, deep breaths, gently lifting Malfoy’s shoulder with each inhale. Malfoy’s left hand rested comfortably at Harry’s waist. One slender fingertip was tucked beneath the hem, touching the soft skin there. Ron could see a small, telling bruise forming on Harry’s collarbone, visible below the loose neck of his t-shirt.
A breath caught in Ron’s throat. This was Harry. Their Harry. Ron had followed Harry into forests, into frozen lakes, and into battles both physical and mental, and in return Harry had died to save them all.
With a quiet wand movement, Ron let his disillusionment charm settle on the pair. They’d be safe from prying eyes for now.

To Follow Fate Headcanon
Philosophers and scientists have debated the existence of "true mates" since the beginning of time. Are "true mates" the most compatible mates to encourage a specific gene to survive into the next generation? Are they simply a fundamental link between souls? Do they even truly exist?
Philosophy is the debate of ideas. Science is based on the premise that an idea should be testable, fallible, or supportable.
How would one test fate?

I need fanfic recommendations!
I’m really craving some angsty RoyEd fics. I really want maybe a pre-relationship one with Ed having a panic attack or something and Roy stepping in and maybe having to restrain him or something.
Or any other suggestions!
@xyriath, @tierfal, @mthaytr, @gettibucket, and anyone else, chime in!

disclaimer #1: those are not inherently my ideas. when I created this list for my bullet journal I scrolled through tumblr and wrote down everything that might work for me too. the idea to organize them that way is not mine either.
disclaimer #2: what works for me might not work for you. this is just the typed out version of my list in my bujo. if something on it is not applicable to you, maybe you can come up with something similiar in effect that is?
disclaimer #3: browsing the book store for me means also talking to my coworkers, bc I work at said book store. that’s why it’s under companionship. same goes for the cafe, bc I used to work there.

“Writing novels, to me, is basically a kind of manual labor. Writing itself is mental labor, but finishing an entire book is closer to manual labor. It doesn’t involve heavy lifting, running fast, or leaping high. Most people, though, only see the surface reality of writing and think of writers as involved in quiet, intellectual work done in their study. If you have the strength to lift a coffee cup, they figure, you can write a novel. But once you try your hand at it, you soon find that it isn’t as peaceful a job as it seems. The whole process—sitting at your desk, focusing your mind like a laser beam, imagining something out of a blank horizon, creating a story, selecting the right words, one by one, keeping the whole flow of the story on track—requires far more energy, over a long period, than most people ever imagine. You might not move your body around, but there’s grueling, dynamic labor going on inside you. Everybody uses their mind when they think. But a writer puts on an outfit called narrative and thinks with his entire being; and for the novelist that process requires putting into play all your physical reserve, often to the point of overexertion.”
