Hi, it’s the person that asked a couple questions about a week ago and after a lot of consideration I think we’ve decided to get a ball python. Before we do that I do have one more question though,

Do you use a heat lamp or a heating pad for Strudel?

I’ve been trying to research between the two to see what’s recommended, but it’s nice to know what ball python owners recommend.

That’s lovely to hear!! I’m happy that you’ve put much thought into this and seem prepared to have a little scaly buddy in your family.

I use a heating pad! Strudel seems to like it quite a bit. Many people tend to have a lamp, and it is easier to regulate, but because of legal requirements on bringing the Strudel with me to higher education I needed to have a pad. It works well and I’ve never had any issues. I do recommend also getting a hand held temperature reader to be able to see what temp it’s at and adjust accordingly: is it too warm? Too cold? What can you do to change that?

Hey, my family and I were thing about getting a ball python and I have some questions,

Do ball python bites hurt?

Is it hard to keep the humidity at the correct temperature?

What is the cleaning process like when you clean the cage?

If your ball python doesn’t eat, what do you do?

These questions are whats been keeping our family from getting a ball python, but we are strongly considering it.

Hey there!

First of all, welcome to the wonderful world of snake ownership :3! There’s a bit to learn but your lil snake buddy is all worth it.

I’ve been bitten by strudel once and it didn’t really hurt any more than a cat bite, and somewhat less. As long as they don’t hold on, it also heals very quick! Bites are not deep at all.

It’s difficult, but once you find what works it’s pretty simple. I usually rehydrate bedding and use a sprayer of water. You can also use a mister or humidifier! So not that hard once you figure it out for yourself.

When I clean. I first put strudel in a different place (container or blankets) remove all objects and spray them with terrarium cleaner, then take out all the bedding and compost it. I make fresh bedding and put it in after cleaning the glass- then everything goes back in! It takes less than an hour, and I do it once a month.

Strudel has always eaten well, but if your ball python isn’t eating after a month despite what you try I do recommend seeking a vet. Try different types of food (live or small or large)..
