CALLING ALL KIMCHAY FICWRITERS!
My dear Kimchay ficwriters,
I invite you to participate in my undergrad research which is me analyzing my creative process of writing a kimchay oneshot. The research consists in an autoethnography which is “a research method that uses personal experience to describe and interpret cultural texts, experiences, beliefs, and practices”. However, for me to do this in a satisfactory way I need to have other people’s experiences to contrast with my own. I’m just accepting Kimchay ficwriters because I want everyone involved to have the same basic background: obsessed with Kimchay and write fics about them.
To participate in the research, you need to become part of the discord server ‘kimchay ficwriters group’ and interact with me and the rest of the group. We have three main channels:
Question and Answers: As the research moves forward, I’ll post questions for you to answer. As we just started, there’s no questions yet.
Discussion Zone: every few days we’ll have rounds of discussions about different topics related to fanfiction (writing process, outlines, tropes, squicks, etc) and kimchay (characterization, headcanons, interesting plots, things you want to explore or would like to read about, etc).
Thesis Fic: There are 9 threads and, in each thread, there’s a scene from the fic I’ll write about in my research. This is the part, the participants give me feedback about the story. I need honesty because the whole point is for me to write about the struggles and feelings that might arise while writing fic.
How the information will be handled: I won’t reveal any kind of personal/sensitive information about the participants, only your AO3 username (or Wattpad username, if that’s the platform you use). However, I might use a lot of excerpts from our conversations, which is expected if you agreed to be part of my group research. Keep in mind, if you accept it this is a commitment, because I really need your help to develop my research. It’s something you need to give your attention at least once a week for a certain amount of time. That also means you’ll have to read my writing, so if you don’t know my writing style and want to read before committing to anything, you can go over my AO3 and read one of my fics.
If you want to participate, send me an ask or a DM and I’ll send you the invitation for the discord server. If you know any Kimchay ficwriter that might be interested in participating, send this post to them!
Thanks, everyone!

I had to do this change because if I get moderators, this account is a primary blog (hence the words 'primaryblog' now in the username) and that means I can't add members to work with me - only side-blogs can do that. So, moving to a new space, but looks the same.

Tumblr media
We’re short-staffed and, to keep this blog running, we’d love to welcome new members to help us around!
What do you have to do as a moderator?
You have to search for new posts related to fandom and Fan Studies and read them to evaluate their content (we have a compilation of places to help to do this task);
You have to select posts and then tag them according to the topic the posts are about (we have a guide explaining how the tag system works);
Ideally you should know how to queue posts, but it’s not a requirement. If you’re willing to learn, that is more than enough.
You have the freedom to choose how your schedule as a moderator of @studiesof-fandom will work! We only need to have content posted almost every day to keep this blog running and up to date.
If you’re interested, please send an inbox to @studiesof-fandom!
I ask for my followers to reblog this post to spread the word!

@softadansey said: will you keep this one for anything or will it be abandoned?
This blog won't be updated anymore. I'm only keeping it because you need to have a main account to host side blogs. Side blogs are the only type of blogs you can add other people to post there too. As I'm looking for people to help me, I had to move to a side blog. Now, the only account that works is @studiesof-fandom.

Just a warning: the library will be empty for a couple of days because I'm re-organizing it! It's easier for me to just erase everything and reupload all folders organized. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Jo × Anna from Supernatural, who never interacted but the ship kinda just grew as a response to in-show and in-fandom misogyny, only once you start considering it the more and more it works. Especially all the Jo as Righteous Woman AUs where Anna was Cas. Rebellious daughters instead of loyal sons
Woah, this isn't a ship I am familiar with! I'm gonna look for some discussion about them and see if someone talked about the aspect of them not interacting and yet growing within fandom. Thanks so much!

I think Kakashi/Iruka from Naruto would be a good example of a non-Canon ship that barely interacted. They're basically the second most popular queer ship in the fandom, and probably in the top 3 overall (besting Canon ships even) and was already popular in Part 1, when they had like one (1) interaction. In the whole series of 500 eps, I could probably count their interactions on one hand, but certainly no more than than two. I'm not sure if they have like articles or anything, sorry, but you can definitely find opinion pieces and such if you type 'why kakairu' on Google.
Thank you so much for sharing this! I'm going to try to find something related to this. Maybe someone did a meta about the ship and said useful things related to the fact they barely talked, but people still found them appealing!

Dude, bless your whole life and family! That's exactly what I'm talking about! Thank you ♥

Okay, so I'm not that bad looking for it, it's just there isn't enough content to become something to study - unless like a case study because it's too unconventional. But yes, I was thinking about something like Phil/Coulson. So, it's more rare to happen than i expected. I'm gonna look through the stuff you added! Thank you so much!
Research Request: help a fellow acafan AGAIN!
Like I explained before, my research involves the process of writing a fanfiction. The fic I’m writing is for a popular pairing in the Untamed fandom, but they barely interacted in canon - yes, I’m writing a Lan Xichen/Jiang Cheng fic for my undergrad thesis.
I just need help with one thing: send me links, articles, meta or whatever you have that talks about popular non-canon ships, especially the ones that don’t have a solid relationship (be it friendship, enemies or romantic connection) in canon (think people that barely talked or interacted), but still are crazily loved by the fandom. I’ve been looking for it, but I might be looking at the wrong places. So, this is my scream for HELP!
PLEASE, REBLOG TO SPREAD THIS POST! IF MORE PEOPLE SEE THIS POST, MORE CHANCES I HAVE TO FIND WHAT I NEED!

You might have luck looking for articles on drarry. It's a ship that seems to fit your needs and is very popular for a long time, so it might be widely studied/written about.
Thanks for the suggestion, it made me check my post cause I overlooked the enemies relationship ahahaha I meant to say people that barely talked and or interacted, so I reworded what I wanted, I'm sorry. Drarry is a good choice for a widely loved couple, but they had a solid relationship as in they were enemies. Plus, in book 6 Harry was basically obsessed with Draco, following him everywhere and it just fueled our fire (I love Drarry so much holy shit, they were my first slash couple!)

Update about my current situation
Hey, guys! I'm here to give you all an update because I totally disappeared once again and I really want to keep this blog running, but by myself I can't do it. So, if anyone wants to help me administer, I'd be really grateful.
I've mentioned here before, but I'm gonna repeat this info anyway. So, I'm Brazilian and, I'm not sure if you guys know, but my country is pretty chaotic right now because of the pandemic - more chaotic than most countries because our president is a crazy genocide and he doesn't give a single fuck about the thousands of people dying every day from the pandemic. You can read more about the situation here.
So, things haven't been good for me and I'm struggling to do the bare minimum - especially related to my research and this blog. Maybe if I have help here, this blog can actually work and not just get sporadic updates.
Right now, I'm more mentally stable and I'm going to be more around because I'm going to be writing my undergrad thesis. My deadline is the second week of October, so I need to work on it now. I'm really gonna do my best to get this page up to date because it helps my research, but I need to try to find some people to share this blog with me.
If anyone is interested in working with me, please send me an inbox or a message on the chat! Any help is great.
Also, the book club is on hiatus until my life is less crazy aka when I finish my undergrad thesis. But, I'll pick it up again and think with the members a better structure for our meetings. The first meeting was incredible and I want to do more of it; but honestly, until the pandemic is under control where I live and my life is somewhat more "normal", I need time and understanding from everyone. So, please keep following the blog because it's here to stay. If you want to be added to the fan studies book club, just send your email and name, so I can add you in our contact list.
I think it's basically this and, once again, thank you for still being here and I hope everyone is doing well.
Yours,
Naty

Research Request: help a fellow acafan!
Hello, my dear people!
First of all, I hope everyone is doing fine and taking care of yourselves. Things have been hard for me, this is why I'm not posting here or dropping by at all. Honestly, I'm living just by doing the bare minimum each day and my bare minimum right now is my undergrad dissertation and that's why I'm here! I need some help!
My research is about fanfiction and its characteristics. I'll analyze a few Tumblr posts written between 2014 and 2021 that reflects, criticizes or points out fanfiction aspects in a wide range in a way to to explore some thoughts of fic writers and readers about fanfiction and its characterizations. The goal is to compare to academic studies related to fanfiction and then contrast everything that was gathered with my own experience. During my research I'll take part of XiChengClipse, a fan event that you can create fanworks to a non-canon pairing from The Untamed series. My plan is to write a fic and document the whole process and compare my findings with the information I gathered not only from fans, but also academic researchers. That's the initial idea, not sure how the project will end up like, but anyways!!!!
My issue right now is that I only have got a couple of texts about fanfiction and I'd like suggestions to expand my very limited options and see if I can find more compelling texts.
Requirements:
It needs to be some kind of analysis, criticism or reflection about fanfiction - it can focus in any kind of aspect: format, linguistic, pacing, genre, comparison to original fiction, tropes, etc. It just have to be about fanfiction and its characteristics.
The post MUST have been posted originally on Tumblr between 2014 and 2021.
The post doesn't need to include just the original post, you can send a post with a discussion and/or relevant commentary added after the post got out in the Tumblr world.
You just need to drop the link in the replies of this post and nothing more. If you guys can reblog to put the word out, it'd be even better!
Thanks everyone who can help me and sorry for the long text!

Take it from someone who has been around the fandom block:
fanfiction.net is dying.
all the signs are there.
if you have no other record of any fics you have there… you might wanna… like… do something about that.
