Can I also add that this is a potential crisis caused by a health issue, not an economic collapse. In most countries, the rebound predictions are significantly better than the previous big recession (2008/9) so long term is shouldn’t wipe out everyone’s career plans 🍀

How do you think the whole pandemic is going to affect your job opportunities?

I’m having a little bit of trouble wrapping my head around it if I’m being honest. The path from graduation to post-grad employment can be a long one in a normal year because of a lot of the smaller/mid-sized firms usually don’t hire first years until they know they’ve passed the bar (I’ve been casually looking at job apps for months and a lot flat out say “don’t apply until you’re admitted”), so my understanding is that traditionally a good number of postings go up in like November/December anyway. So all along I’ve kind of said to myself “take it easy until then and then you’ll figure it out” and now I’m...still kind of in that mindset. I think I am subconsciously holding on to a hope that things will have turned around come fall, even though I know that is likely untrue. 

Not to toot my own horn, but I think I’m a great candidate. I mostly don’t have a job right now (or, at least, this is what I’m telling myself) because my path was outstandingly unfocused and I didn’t really figure out what direction I wanted to take until truly the last few months of school. I haven’t really applied anywhere yet. So I’ve always had this quiet hope that once I actually start applying, someone will recognize my worth and I’ll get something fairly quickly. And I’m still kind of holding on to that hope. It’s just...now fewer firms may be looking to hire and the competition may be steeper. So...we’ll see.

I am loving nights atm. Like, at night, everything is normal. No one is about but no one is ever about. I can’t go out but I never go out at night anyway. It’s hours I can be up and the world feels entirely normal for a little while

Good morning. I have my coffee, I have my books, the sun is spilling onto my desk, and it is time to get editing.

Lockdown has been a super weird thing. I seem to have 2-3 good days, then a day where I just stay in bed and watch Gilmore Girls or Merlin. It feels sooo looong because I was ill just beforehand - I’ve basically been out of my normal job and schedule for over 2 months!

I feel really guilty because I’m not writing so much when I should be taking this opportunity, but I feel really lucky at the same time that my mum keeps pushing that on me because it means she is 100% supporting my dream and my ultimate career goal and so many people, especially creators, do not have that support

I think I could really do with a hug - I haven’t spoken face-to-face with someone in weeks. The perils of living alone! But then, my flat is gorgeous and I feel so lucky that if I’m stuck anywhere it’s in my beautiful little flat

April 6th // Day 23 of social distancing/quarantine... it’s been great so far. I’m grateful for being with my family, for having access to internet, access to remote classes. Not all my friends and classmates have this privilege. So yeah, I’m thankful for being home while other people have to go to work despite everything going on otherwise they’re fired. Hope you’re safe and stay home 💖
