Fandom Trumps Hate 2023
fandomtrumpshate on Tumblr
2023 will be my fourth Fandom Trumps Hate auction. I’ve found it the most difficult writing I’ve done but I have absolutely loved the experience of working with the successful bidders and in some cases, pushing out of my comfort zone. I’m offering either Harry Potter or Sherlock, any pairing, but my work is mainly Harry/Severus (snarry or severitis) and John/Sherlock. I’ve also done cross-overs and they’re always some of my favorites, and have written other pairings in both fandoms.
The results of 2017 was Where You Hang Your Heart, a rework and expansion of an earlier story in Sherlock’s point of view. In 2019, a name I recognized from the Sherlock fandom won my services and to my surprise requested snarry.  That work was also a retelling of a popular story in that fandom, this time from Severus’ point of view. PuesdoPrince follows ProtoSnape to complete a series.  And in 2020, I delivered Queer Like Us, a fic about Harry and Severus reconnecting after a long time apart and a lot of growth and change.  It
So - 2023. You can find me under the suitesamba tag on the auction tag page - there’s a Tumblr but the auction is officially hosted on Dreamwidth.  This link should get you to my auction page.  Bidding starts on March 1st and ends March 5th but you can browse now. You can check out the pub dates and lengths of my previous auction fics on AO3 - I’ll start working with you right away but want to take the writing time the story needs.
Suitesamba’s Fandom Trumps Hate 2023 Auction Page
And if not on my services - please support the auction in some way.  The supported causes are all timely and critical and this year I’ll match the winning bid and donate to the cause of the bidder’s choice.

Secret Snarry Swap 2022 Recs
The fial Secrety Snarry Swap posted in December anonymously and author reveals went up a couple weeks ago. I had some clear favorites in this one, and had a fest entry of my own which I’ve incldued.
Foolish Wand Waving by NecromanticNoir  19,092 words Explicit
The fest opened with this one, which hit nearly all the tropes. Mind the warnings as you proceed and if you dont know anything about OnlyFans (I was in that category and watched a Documentary about it after reading this!) hang on to your seats. It’s funny, surprising, and despitre being a non-magical AU, full of magic. Excellent writing and story-crafting, and I especially enjoyed the dialogue.
Summary:  Harry Potter has an OnlyFans. Severus, only knowing it's a platform where you can post videos and people pay you, makes an educational one for 'Potions'. He is quite shocked when, in a bout of curiosity, he subscribes to Harry - and hears his own voice in the background of... rather different content.
Friends of Dorothy by Writcraft    22,000 words Explicit
Another excellent fic by this always satisfying author. It’s very Harry-Severus centrc, though it features a couple of really good original characters.  My comment:  “Perfect. Excellent writing and has all the elements I love in a good snarry - great OCs, good dialogue, believable character growth and that simmering connection between Harry and Severus. Couldn't put this one down.”
Summary:  When Harry Potter sees Severus Snape on a date with another wizard it sets him on a journey of self-discovery that leads to the Friends of Dorothy Detective Agency and a Niffler called Toto.
Pipe Dreams by Nesting Hedwig  12,874 words, Teen and up
This one brought back visions of my dad on his back under the bathroom sink trying vaiently to fix the leacky pipes.  And if THAT’s not a reason to read a fic, what is?
Another well-writen, original fic which is very Harry/Severus centric and is really their re-introduction to each other. Leaves us with a lot of promise and hope.
Summary:  Just before closing time on Christmas Eve, Harry Potter stopped to pick up an order from the village plumbing supply shop. The last person he ever expected to meet in one of the aisles was Severus Snape.
The Private Collection of S. Snape by PinaNaponi  6336 words  Explicit
A 5X fic in which Severus spends a lot of time watching Harry have sex and then finally gets to have sex with Harry.  The story is well-constructed, the sex is hot and the pacing good. As always, mind the warnings.
Summary:  Severus likes to watch. Potter doesn't seem to mind. Or: Five times Severus witnesses Potter get railed, and the one time he finally gets to do the railing.
Stasis by Avioleta  12,206 words  Explicit
Avioleta is one of my favorite authors, and she once again produced a story that pulled me in. The story takes place at Grimmauld Place just after the war, with Harry coming and going on Auror business and Severus whiling away the hours until he can return to Hogwarts and definitely not thinking about Harry. Excellent writing, as always.
My comment:   Achingly, amazingly perfect. I loved reading every word of this fic -it felt so intimate, so personal. Sparse and full at the same time. Gorgeous.
Summary:  After the war, Severus Snape recuperates at Grimmauld Place.
And finally - my entry:
Spy Glass by Suitesamba  18,135 words  Explicit
I wrote this one because I couldn’t get the prompt out of my head:  Severus's new job in insurance results in him having to trail Quidditch player!Harry around to assess the international Seeker for Harry's insurance renewal.
This one is all about the humor, with Severus masquerading as a female reporter, some “boy and his broom” innuendo, unlicensed sex therapy, Quidditch god Harry and a bit of fun with George and Angelina.
Summary:  England wants to insure star Seeker Harry Potter and his fabulous broom. Enter Severus Snape, wizarding investigator extraordinaire, ready to calculate risk and assess value. Tailing Harry Potter turns out to be the job of his dreams, though he wishes it could be done without the disguise. A tale of a man’s obsession, another man’s obsession, and a heartwarming ending where everyone ultimately gets what they want – or what they need.

The Impenetrable Mind Palace of Muggle Sherlock Holmes
New chapter! Lots of fun as Sherlock’s dream of seeing Hogwarts finally comes true.
Chapter 7:  Firsties Family Day - Hogwarts Ho on the Hogwarts Express

Note
I was wondering if you'd consider putting a "blanket permission to podfic" statement in your AO3 profile?
Not sure I'm ready to do that yet though I appreciate the ask. Only a few of my fics have been done as podfics, and I've always listened to a sample of the artist's other work to determine if it fits my story style. My thinking is that once there is one podfic of the story, others are more reluctant to take it on. Feel free to convince me I'm wrong! I'm just going on general intuition. -ss

Snarry-a-thon 2021 Recs
vWeeks 1 and 2
Snarry-a-thon 2021 has just finished posting it’s second week of fic and art. The fest is posting to three journals (including Dreamwidth) and AO3 and you can find the entire fest here:
Thon 2021
All works are currently anonymous. There’s lots of good art this time to go with the fic, but these are the stories I enjoyed the most:
Reveal Your Secrets - NC-17, 14,751 words
Harry wants to wash Severus’ potion-fume-infested oily lank hair. And Severus, because of some meddling by one of his masters in the past, doesn’t recognize his obsession for what it really is. This all leads to some surprisingly sexy shampooing (you’d never guess how many different shampoos it takes to clean Severus’ hair every Friday), some porridge eating and some Harry Potter pub trivia (Severus wins). I loved the premise of the story and loved the odd bits of magic (like the Recollectoscope) and Severus’ retirement gift from Minerva. A fic that made me smile and one I’ll definitely remember.
Aftermath - NC-17, 18,180 words, underage (Harry is 17)
A lovely, quiet falling-in-love story that starts off with an unexpected connection just after the Battle of Hogwarts then slows down and lets Harry fly away – but not too far – as the two woo each other, Harry working at a Muggle pub and Severus waiting for him to get off work, drinking whiskey on a barstool. It’s so intensely Harry-Severus focused, without protesting friends and people telling Harry what to do and what not to do, and I cheered a bit at the inevitable end. Many kudos for this one.
Hawthorn Branches in Spring - PG-13, 37,500 words
This eighth-year fic has Harry returning to finish his education and Severus back in the Potions classroom. A slow build to a relationship-to-be with lots of school detail, familiar friends and characters, a surprisingly understanding Ron (hooray!) and Harry getting to return to a peaceful Hogwarts and making friends across the aisle. Lots of good potions and ingredients info including the language of flowers, and a more realistic student/teacher relationship with some nice pre-UST. You really never completely see Severus’ perspective, but the implications for the future are clear enough. A good eighth-year story, a really interesting career path for Harry and the promise of more to come.
The Sheltering Trees - G, 7800 words
A non-traditional Severus/Harry, very Severus-centric, but a really good read and very well told and constructed. At a Hogwarts in an alternate universe without a Dark Lord and a Harry Potter, Severus collects potions ingredients in the Forbidden Forest and encounters a Fae named Harry. The lore is excellent, the plot engaging, and I was left wanting to no more about this mysterious fae and his last words to Severus. Really nice writing.
Lost and Found - E, 38,646 words
Lost and Found is a memory loss story which managed to wrap in a senior dog (yes!), a used bookshop (please!), an acerbic Severus (of course!) and a lonely and pining Harry in a lost and found story that is really very satisfying. Harry has supportive friends, Severus as a Muggle is still very much Severus, and the scenes in the bookshop are particularly nice. Snuggle up with this one on a rainy day.

The Impenetrable Mind Palace of Muggle Sherlock Holmes
Harry Potter moves into Mrs. Hudson’s flat for a year and Sherlock just can’t accurately deduce the new neighbor. Co-starring John, Rosie, Severus Snape and Al Potter with a side trip to the Burrow. Complete, but a second companion “What comes next?” story is i the works.

FIC: Silas Barnaby and the Green-eyed Dragon Boy
Reveals are up for the 2020 Secret Snarry Swap. You can find all sixteen entries here: Secret Snarry Swap 2020.
My entry, Silas Barnaby and the Green-eyed Dragon Boy, posted first on December 1st (General audiences, @13K words).
Summary: Silas Barnaby enjoys a perfectly ordinary life as a museum guard in York and – until these last weeks, at least – did not see spectacled cats, ghosts in graveyards, or heads in fireplaces. What’s more, the green-eyed man in the portrait in the Dumbles gallery is definitely not winking at him. A tale of sacrifice, forgiveness and people who aren’t at all what they seem.
(Hint - everyone is very much alive, just pretending to be something they’re not for a while.)
There were some very nice stories this round - quite a few longer ones perfect for a winter’s day reading.
Happy 2021 to all - I’ve been looking forward to this day but looking out my window, it looks a helluva lot like 2020 still.

Secret Snarry Exchange Week 3
The Snarry exchange posted five more fics last week - and apparently it was Teen and Up” rating week!
In Veritaserum Veritas (4463 words/Teen and up) - Harry finds a prickly hedgehog who has a prickly personality too. A cute story with smart!Hermione (of COURSE she knows all about hedgehogs!)
Mistletoe Manipulations (1143 words/Teen and up) - Harry, Severus, Misteltoe and the Astronomy Tower. Need I say more?
The Singer Next Door (8238 words/Teen and up) A non-magical AU set in London where Hogwarts is an elite school of music and Harry and Severus, both talented gradates, end up living next to each other. I like non-magical AUs in general, and the author did a good job working the characters we know and love into the story. Features Draco Malfoy.
Severus Snape and the Reluctant Soulmate (2872 words, Teen and up) A short soulmate story with an interesting backstory - and some very unusual “soul marks” for our boys.
In Proportion to Courage (39,499 words, Teen and Up) This one is the reason it took me three days to make this post - a very long read and a very unusual fic in the amount of magical theory detail. I honestly felt like I’d been cramming for exams after I finished this one! Very very very slow burn, lots of magical theory and a unique take on the Slytherin head’s suite.

Secret Snarry Swap 2020 Week 2
Five more pieces were posted this week, so here’s a bit about each of them enthusiastic recs for two of them that I particularly loved.  All creators remain anonymous at this time.
The Nutcracker and the Prince  A lovely piece of artwork depicting Harry as the Nutcracker Price with Severus on Christmas Eve.  The piece is charming, with a magical feel, and I smile every time I look at it.
Harry Potter and the (Vincent) Half-Blood Prince  41,000+ words/teen.  The face that this one was written to a prompt I left made me love it all the more, and that hardly seems possible given how much I liked the story. Harry and company make custom flying motorcycles.  Enter Severus Snape, in search of a new bike - and more. The writing, characterization and story-telling are stellar. The plot is original. The Harry portrayed isn’t typical. The supporting characters are original. Give this one a go - please!
Roll With It @16,000 words/explciit  The much-loved amnesia/partial amnesia trope with a potion accident thrown in that changed appearances. Great artwork at the end - tattooed naked Severus playing the drums.
The Great House-elf Mistletoe Revolt @2000 words/general.  A take-off on “The Night Before Christmas” which is clever, well-rhymed and original AND has a plot! This one needs more love.  It will put you in a festive mood!!
The Scales of Life  23,377 words/teen.  Teddy is ill and Harry, Lord Potter, goes to Severus, Lord Prince, for help with a potion. Interesting takes on wizarding lordships, house-elf lore and magical “dead” zones - like when you lose your cell signal!

Secret Snarry Swap Week 1
It was a short week, with four works posted, and I think you should give them each a go. All are currently anonymous.
First - the artwork:
Christmas at the Burrow  How could I possibly resist Severus with black nails (I just wrote him as such in my fandomtrumpshate offering) along with Weasley jumpers, the family clock, and all the delicious details? It’s really a beautiful piece.
One Christmas Wish  1726 words/explicit  A short one with UST and the lovely trope of Severus thinking he’s not good enough for Harry - until, well, he is.
Silas Barnaby and the Green-Eyed Dragon Boy @13,000 words/general audiences (In the interest of not giving away any spoilers as there’s a mystery and a reveal, here’s the author’s summary:) “ Silas Barnaby enjoys a perfectly ordinary life as a museum guard in York and – until these last weeks, at least – did not see spectacled cats, ghosts in graveyards, or heads in fireplaces. What’s more, the green-eyed man in the portrait in the Dumbles gallery is definitely not winking at him. A tale of sacrifice, forgiveness and people who aren’t at all what they seem.”
Things We Wish For @38,000 words/explicit.  A clever time travel with Professor Harry and 7th-year Severus, interesting magical theory and some lovely UST that eventually resolves (multiple times).

2020 Secret Snarry Exchange
The 2020 Secret Snarry exchange began posting on Tuesday on AO3 and the journals. It’s too early for recs, but I’ll post them a couple time during the fest. Give the (anonymous for now) creators some love. It’s 2020 - we all need it!
