People on here spreading propaganda that the Iranian government is good...stop.
You are hurting Iranians, Jews, Muslims, Arabs, and more.
The Iranian government does not give a fuck about Palestine. All they are interested in is spreading their power and influence across the Middle East. They even hurled missiles at Al-Aqsa Mosque, which potentially could have destroyed or damaged it if the Iron Dome didn't exist. The only seriously injured victim in Israel was a 7 year old Muslim Bedouin girl. Many Arab countries understand how dangerous the Iranian government is and intercepted some of their missiles.
Iranians have been screaming at the top of their lungs that they don't want war and they are tortured and murdered by their government, but your desire to view the Middle East as a sports match makes you want to root for anyone who is against Israel. The Iranian government literally hosted a Holocaust denial convention in 2006 which included David Duke, one of the former leaders of the KKK. They are not against the Israeli government for the right reasons, but for antisemitic ones. The growing antisemitism in Iran due to their rule drove out thousands of Iranian Jews, many whose only option was to move to Israel.
Please do research before spewing ignorant bullshit that harms everyone. There is no shame in admitting you were misinformed. Peoples' lives are worth more than your bruised ego.

Say whatever you want about Booktok and Bookstagram and fantasy romance, but they have done incredible, invaluable things to decenter Harry Potter. Other fantasy series like ACOTAR, Fourth Wing, and The Cruel Prince going megaviral hurts JK Rowling by introducing people whose only fantasy reading experience may have previously been HP to fantasy that is just as good. HP will always be popular and shaped many of our childhoods, but paving the way for others to reach huge audiences is vital to combatting Rowling’s ongoing vile transphobia
Also- I am SO GLAD fantasy authors like Sarah J. Maas ended up being the prolific writers instead of Rowling

A Jewish person is telling you that there are still plenty of people who claim to hate nazis yet have deeply ingrained antisemitism. You are going so far as to tell that Jewish person to delete that account. You are a pathetic antisemite.

To everyone who is truly trying to be an ally to Jews- take a look at what happened when I posted the very basic statement of hating nazis not meaning you are necessarily free from antisemitism
yourladyindank IMMEDIATELY derailed this post to imply there are a bunch of Jewish nazis out there
The question of what to call an extremely self-hating Jew who literally believes in nazi ideas is not going to be universally agreed on in the Jewish community. It is my belief that there are a very few select self-hating Jewish people who *might* fit the nazi label, but the idea that there is some kind of large percentage out there is extremely antisemitic. People can believe in different kinds of fascist ideologies without being a nazi- nazism is a specific branch of fascism
But this post calling for basic self-reflection from non-Jews, which wasn't specifically about Israel, was IMMEDIATELY derailed with antisemitic bullshit from someone implying that a bunch of Jews are nazis, specifically right wing Israeli Jews. There are plenty of right wing Israeli Jews who have some awful political positions, including extremists who are fascists, but they are still not nazis. Calling all fascist views the same word is childish, dangerous, and doesn't encourage people to examine the specifics of differing fascist views and the distinct threats they pose. It doesn't help anyone
Taking a general post about anti-semitism and making it about the Israeli government is antisemitic. It is the act of someone who is trying to use the Israeli government as a shield for their own prejudice. This is what happens when you allow your pain to turn into hatred for a marginalized group of people and want to bring them down/talk over them, knowing some people will believe you when you try to claim it's "just about Israel." This is the kind of antisemitism Jews experience daily from extreme leftists who have lost the plot
Please don't be afraid to examine the ways you perpetuate antisemitism
Hating nazis does not mean you’re not prejudiced against Jews. Posting about how you’d love to punch a nazi is not your get-out-of-accusations-of-antisemitism free card

I cannot believe I have to say this, but PLEASE don't k*ll yourself for a political cause.
Multiple things can be true at once. Aaron Bushnell seems like he was a deeply empathetic person. He meant well and wanted to make a difference. It is also clear that he suffered from mental illness, like numerous veterans do.
There are posts on this site with thousands of notes glorifying his actions right now, and even worse, denying he suffered from mental illness. Many veterans suffer from mental illnesses like PTSD that are especially triggered by images of war and have few resources available to help them. I do not know what specific one(s) he suffered from, but his actions are ones that have been seen countless times by people who specialize in helping veterans. It is completely normal and a sign of basic human decency to be disturbed by war, but it is a sign of mental illness to want to die by su*cide to make a statement about it.
Feeling bad for him and wanting him to be remembered as someone who was kind is one thing, but calling him a "hero" and saying he made a "sacrifice" are dangerous to people with su*cidal thoughts and ideation. We all feel helpless in the world right now and want to change it. But ending your own life is not the way. You cut off your voice from being heard in the future and cut off the rest of your potential. You do not need to end your life to make a bold statement-people do it everyday without causing harm to themselves.
There are so many young, vulnerable, and depressed people on this site. Please think twice before sharing posts that could have horrible consequences.

i love the strange reality of being a human person with a human brain. one time someone said something to me in a foreign language (japanese, which i do not speak) and i automatically responded in a different foreign language (spanish, which i do not speak well) and then we both said "what?" in english, an experience made more surreal by the fact that everyone around us was speaking loudly in canadian french (as this occurred in Quebec)

I've seen a lot of troubling antisemitism in the Our Flag Means Death fandom lately regarding Taika Waititi. Please hear me out.
A lot of people want everyone to comment about the Israel/Palestine war. It's understandable. What Palestinian civilians are going through in Gaza is a nightmare that no one deserves. They are overwhelmingly paying the price for Hamas' actions- a group they have no control over and are also harmed by. Thousands have been killed.
After October 7th, Taika signed a letter asking for the Israeli hostages to be released. It did not endorse any specific actions taken by the Israeli government- it was simply in support of the hostages.
But you know what he was immediately accused of?
Supporting genocide. Even though what he signed was about Israeli civilians- including the elderly, disabled, and children- who were being held captive by Hamas.
On October 7th, Jews died in a single day in numbers that hadn't been since the Holocaust. Israel contains half the world's entire Jewish population. The majority of its population are descendants of Jews from middle eastern and north African countries who were forcibly kicked out in violent pogroms and had nowhere else to go. Many are descendants of Holocaust survivors as well.
I think most non-Jews would be astounded at how much the majority of the worldwide Jewish community is still mourning and reeling from October 7th. It triggered a lot of intergenerational trauma in many of us, yet I hear barely any non-Jews talk about it.
And yet you immediately accused Taika, a Jewish man, of supporting genocide just because he didn't support hostages being taken and random civilians being murdered. Do you really think he trusts people not to twist his words if he attempts to talk about Palestine too, when you turned a moment of legitimate pain for members of one of the persecuted groups he's apart of into accusing him of being a genocide-supporting monster?
We Jews not only have to deal with the memory of October 7th, but also with people conflating any support for the hostages with support for the Israeli government. When we say that criticism of Israel can at times get antisemitic, this is the kind of thing we're talking about.
Many of us are simultaneously mourning for Palestine and horrified that a right-wing fascist government that has little care for Palestinian lives has taken over Israel. Innocent lives taken shouldn't justify the killing of other innocent lives, and we are watching it happen, feeling powerless.
And it gets worse, because targeting Taika specifically because he's a person of multiple marginalized identities, when you don't attack white members of the crew nearly as much, is ironically racist.
Unintentional antisemitism and unintentional racism is still antisemitism and racism.
Take a deep breath and please reflect on how you have no idea what it's like to be Jewish right now, and how some of your own antisemitic criticism about his signature has likely contributed to his silence about Palestine. If no matter what he says his words and actions are twisted by so many of his "fans", he might think there's nothing he can say that will do any good.
