CONTENT WARNING and slight SPOILER ALERT for Avatar: Way of the Water!!

Any fans of James Cameron’s Avatar with Epilepsy/Seizure Disorders that plan on seeing Avatar: The Way of Water, please be careful heading in to it if you are emotionally sensitive to seeing our disability depicted in the media. There is a teenage character depicted having a seizure underwater, and the film goes on to depict her being diagnosed with Frontal Lobe Epilepsy.

It is theorized by many viewers that it will become plot relevant in the later movies, but it does not come into play in the plot for Avatar: The Way of Water. It varies on how badly I’m emotionally effected by seizures being depicted, but I nearly started crying in the theater today, and I just wanted everyone to be aware so they know what they’re going into.

Okay, so, I had a realization about the Tecna/Timmy business in Season 5.

Season 5 was written assuming the viewers had only seen the four Nickelodeon Specials that were basically a highlight reel/summarization of the events of seasons 1 and 2, and none of the Tecna/Timmy relationship development is included in any of them. So, for those of us who have seen the actual seasons 1 and 2 (whichever dub) the Tecna and Timmy relationship developments are (messily done) repeats, but, for fans that were first introduced to the series through the Nickelodeon specials and dub, they’re not repeats. It’s the first time they’re exposed to their emotion v. logic/irl v. behind a computer screen struggles.

I just started watching the season of Winx with Tritannus 😂😜

Dude, Tritannus’ dad is a dick. No wonder he turns out the way he does.

Okay, but like, they’re merpeople. His dad’s literally Neptune.

[Friend]: But like, still…It’s the tannus part, tbh

Can you explaine to me the trope of “the established couple can never be happy”? This show is using one couple’s relationship problem plot after another and I’m so over it.

[Friend]: TV shows went “drama is fun” and then didn’t stop

Ugh, the main couple the bf took a nasty fall in a fight and has lost his memory 🤦🏼‍♀️ and “something’s blocking the healing. Sky, I think there’s something you don’t want to remember” 🙄

[Friend]: That’s annoying

Aaand the ex-fiance is back 🙄

Tritannus turned his mother and twin brother into pollution monster minions

[Friend]: Climate change fighting king

The new transformation songs have no business being the bops that they are

[Friend]: Yasss a bop

This season has a Christmas episode 😂

It’s kind of funny, because it’s only an Earth holiday. So, Bloom’s trying to explain it to all of her friends and they’re V confused 😂

And the Trix are trying to steal the “Christmas Magic” because they don’t get it either 😂

So, like, Icy is in lvoe with Tritannus and it’s disgusting & Darcy and Stormy are like seconds away from murdering her because she’s like 100% focused on Tritannus and his goals and nothing else anymore

So, we’ve randomly switched to 3D CGI animation

[Friend]: Wild

They really said, “5 minutes left in this episode? We’re gonna change the animation style to show they entered this new realm”

Kings and Queens of the magical dimension, there will be no more of your realms if Tritannus destroys the whole dimension!

Bloom, there were 100 different things you could’ve said to Sky and Erendor then that got your point across better than “A king can be wrong sometimes”

Icy literally said to her sisters “I will never leave Tritannus. Never, ever, ever, ever, eeever.” Like, WTH did they do to my girl? Where’s my “Ice Coffin” wielding bitch gone?

Everytime Darcy and Stormy have gagged at Icy and Tritannus, I have felt it on a spiritual level.

“Diaspro isn’t the problem, maybe it’s me” Honestly, Bloom, yes, right now, it is. It’s not 100% you and your relationship with him all the time. The dude’s a prince, he has duties to his people.

Why is Stella so much more vapid and self-centered this season? Like, they can’t go anywhere without “looking the part” now, why? I just, she was my favorite seasons 1-4, and now I can’t stand her.

Whhhy is this episode with the Tecna/Timmy date a thing? I thought we hashed this out in Season 1?

I need you to know that “Then, we can stick a fork in Tritannus” “Because he’ll be done” was actual dialogue just used in Winx. 🤦🏼‍♀️

[Friend]: oh my god

God, Nickelodeon totally fucked this show over.

Okay, 😂, Tecna just sat down at the wrong table and made a whole love confession, and honestly? I feel like that’s something I’d do. My poor girl 😂

Why do Tecna’s legs look like noodles in her CGI Sirenix transformation sequence? It bothers me.

“Nice to have you back handsome?” Icy says this to Tritannus in his pollution monster form. Does that mean she’s only attracted to him in his monster form?

Is there a purpose to this magical ballet shoes scene in the second to last episode? Or was it just shoehorned in to resolve the Flora/Helia relationship problems subplot?

I’ve seen pictures of Bloomix and I love the designs, but I don’t know if I can do season 6 if it’s just as bad.

I have since seen an actual term for this, hero bastardization, and I dig it.

Can there be a new trend, please?

I know the trend in fanfiction is to write OCs that save the villain. Their love makes them see the error of their ways, and suddenly they’re the good guy. But, can we start making it a trend where the OC is corrupted by the villain? Can the OC find appeal in their plans and join them in wreaking havoc and facing the consequences with the villain in the end? Like Harley Quinn, yes she eventually left the Joker because he was an abusive asshole, but she pretty much remained a villain. Can we see that start trending, please?

I had this idea come to me when I was rewatching season 1, recently.

Y’all know how in Episode 14 “Bloom’s Dark Secret”/ ”Witch Trap” (depending on the dub), Bloom breaks in to Cloud Tower to read the book on her and the Trix manipulate it so it tells her she’s a witch to mess with her.

I had the idea for an AU where the Trix didn’t mess with it, but it still tells Bloom she’s actually a witch.

However, I have no idea what would happen after that other than she would have to start over and attend Cloud Tower.

Thoughts I had While Watching “Winx Club: Mystery of the Abyss” for the First Time

Check out my posts on Season 4 and Season 5.

I'm watching the third Winx movie, which is set after season 5, and it is currently far better than season 5.

"Bloom, you don’t want to leave Kiko in our hands do you?" I appreciate that the Trix have been fighting the Winx for so long that Icy’s learned her rabbit's name

Why are they pronouncing Eraklyon as Eraklynn?

Principal Faragonda? What?

Their legs flow too much in this animation. They move all noodle-y

Why in the movies does Layla/Aisha have a southern belle accent?

“I have a bad feeling.” “Maybe you ate some bad clams?” IDK why I laughed so hard at that exchange, but I did.

What is with this animation over animating motion? Like, their facial expressions move and squish too much

The cage is connected to Sky’s life force, because of course it is

“Why do evil witches have the habit of kidnapping somebody’s boyfriend? Don’t you have anything better to do?” My girl Stella’s got a point.

*singing outloud* Jellyfish, jellyfish, jellyfish...*stops singing* oh, they turn into Tritannus’s mutants, how sad

Why are the pronouncing Sirenix as Sirinix?

“I’m okay, but how does my hair look?” - just a little too far with the vapid Stella my dudes

What’s with the occasional weird random pauses? Like, why was that the take they went with?

“You call this noise? There’s way more noise at a concert by Justin B” “Hey, I like Justin!” - why? Like, why was that necessary? You’ve never mentioned pop culture before, why do it now?

I appreciate that Sky’s the “damsel in distress” in this.

Okay, but like, what if Sky actually died? I feel like that’d make for an interesting arc for Bloom.

“Wake up, Sky!” - he is under water, bloom. Even if he did it wouldn’t do him much good if he can’t breath. He doesn’t have magical breathing abilities like you do from Sirenix

And we’re ending things with a music video 👍🏻Because they formed a band in season 4 🙄

And Tritannus is rapping 😂😂😂

My Running Diatribe of Texts to My Friend While Watching the Winx Club Season 4 for the First Time

I'm going to start this post with a little background as to why I, a 23-year-old woman, was watching a children's show. I grew up watching Winx Club pretty much when it first aired in the US, and I loved it. I've always been drawn to the cliched "normal girl discovers she's magical in some way" story, and I liked the whole "transformation" thing (wasn't aware there was a whole trope of "magical girl transformation" at the time). Granted, I didn't remember a ton of it all that well until I rediscovered the summer between 8th grade and freshmen year of high school. So, i rewatched then S1E1 to Secrets of the Lost Kingdom. When Season 4 came out, I tried to get back into it but I wasn't feeling it anymore.

Well, in quarantine I revisited it, because I wasn't in the mood for my normal go to cheer-me-ups becuase the most of them were Disney movies and I was sad about my Disney College Program being ended early by the pandemic, but I still wanted something lighthearted and fantastical.

Which, brings us to today, where I thought I might share the thoughts I had (and texted to my friends, because I needed to rant) while watching Season 4 (and Season 5, but I'm making that a second post).

Season 4

I started watching Season 4 of Winx Club for the first time. It's not abosolutely god awful, but it's not perfect either.

I have a question for the Winx Club animators: if Bloom's bio parents and sister have brown eyes, why does she have blue eyes?

Also, the voice actors for Bloom and Flora changed.

The rabbit you hate in Winx just fucking talked because magic, and I'm gonna have nightmares

I'm so done with the Musa and Riven drama the show keeps dragging out.

[Friend]: Was Riven being a dick again?

Yeah, Riven got jealous of a record producer that took interest in Musa and it just went to shit from there.

They've discovered that all the fairies that used to live on Earth are trapped on Tir Na Nog, an island off the coast of Ireland that "doesn't appear on any map" which sounds corny, but Tir Na Nog is actually Celtic folklore. So, I thought that was cool.

They changed the voice actor for Brandon like 20 episodes into the season, and I hate it.

One of Stella's new spells is "Crystal Light!" and I just...

Nabu's dying in the next episode. I can feel it in my bones.

[Friend:] is this all the same season? because holy shit.

Yeah, I'm big sad. I'm also angry they killed off the one black boyfriend character.

Layla's hell bent on revenge for his death, now, even though they've spent the last like ten episodes trying to make the Earth fairies believe that revenge isn't the answer.

This season has like 3 main story arcs + other subplots, and it's so much.

And it's the end of S4, and the ending made no sense.
