After a brief stealth through the upper parts of the Yuan-ti city, the party burst into a ruined library that occupants have repurposed as a hostel. There, they meet Bisaf, an optimistic half elf who has been conspiring with secret resistors in the Temple, and Harle, a pessimistic dwarf who has wisdom to offer from his long time spent as a Yuant-ti slave. Bisaf and Harle fill in the party on the experiences of the slaves around the temple, and how toxins in their food have kept the slave population from having the energy or motivation to revolt.
Bisaf takes the party to meet with Palmira, an elf cultist who has had a change of heart, but uses her permissions in the temple to keep in the information loop. Palmira is accompanied by some hard core cultists, and some Yuan-ti who attack Ziku and her party on sight. The party slays the attackers and express their wishes for a revolt. Palmira explains that their window for a revolt will be short, since Talash, the temple's Yuan-ti Head Priest, is pushing for a ritual to turn their King Shisara into a being closer to a god. She also expresses that freeing the slaves will not be enough, since key powerful magical and charismatic figures are holding everything together from the top. If they take out most of these figures, ready the slaves and sympathetic Yuan-ti Purebloods, the coup can begin.
Tumblr media
With Palmira, Bisaf and Harle's help, the party begin the initial steps in this plan. Cherchael and Palmira prepares a solution similar in appearance to the poison vials the kitchen staff put in the food given to the slaves, but is in fact just flavoured water. Using various magical means, combined with the discarded cultist robes of those they just killed, the party begin an infiltration of the Temple of Shisara, using a secret tunnel found by a dwarf slave named Myrielle.
The tunnel leads into the basement floor of the Temple, and they find themselves in a mostly empty prison complex. Two children and their mother are being kept prisoner, awaiting torture to turn them into obediant slaves, but at Noelle's insistence, the family are freed, and a fourth prisoner, a minotaur, once made aware of the secret tunnel, offers to take them back to the library/hostel. Noelle uses the Jewel's magic to turn the prisoners invisible, and then the party proceed upstairs into the temple. Ziku's appearance as a Pureblood, still in her clan's colours, means that she is not questioned by guards. Quierk uses her Eldritch pact magic with Lolth to magically appear as a fellow Pureblood. Earl and Noelle are dressed in the cultist robes they found earlier, and Cherchael wildshaped into a cat to hide on her ally's persons.
Tumblr media
When she was still a member of the Temple, Ziku has access to the first and second floors, so she easily finds the kitchen. A Yuan-ti Malison is in the kitchen, but thanks to their disguises, he instead asks if Ziku can man the kitchen while the Malison takes a bath. An outburst from Quierk means that they must go with the Malison and help wash him, but thankfully nothing bad happens and its just awkward.
While in the kitchen, the party find and replace the vials of poison with their own solution. They also ruin and then fix the broth the Malison was making, while taking stock of the gruesome sight of blood and human flesh in the storeroom nearby. Earl discovers a Water Elemental keeping the meat cold. Quierk returns before the Malison, so the others leave Ziku by herself, who is complimented on her chef skills and then kicked out of the kitchen.
Next session with this party will be spent exploring more of the First floor of the Temple of Shisara.

With the coming arrival of the Silken Squall, the Cobalt Soul and Ziku use the opportunity to leave town, while Ank'Harel's attention is drawn elsewhere. The Skyship takes three days to get from Ank'Harel to Shammel, a coastal tourist centre close to the Yuan-ti Temple. While aboard the ship, Cherchael does a reading for a concerned citizen invested in the state of the pantheon.
She reads; Knight of Pentacles, Six of Wands (inverted), and Four of Swords (inverted). Cherchael interprets this as meaning that the Gods have been working hard over the eons to heal the people and the land from the Calamity, but this excess pride in their work has been met with a lack of recognition, certain areas of worship are failing. Due to stresses of their ongoing battles, the gods may turn away from their creations.
Tumblr media
A Cobalt Soul operative named Zoszu meets the party in Shammel, giving them a place to stay, brokering supplies for travel, and a Teleportation Tablet coded to Ank'Harel, allowing them a quick return when they they've done. Zoszu also asks the party to find certain scriptures of Zehir in the Temple, to deliver to the Cobalt Soul, with promise of a gold reward.
The party spends most of a week travelling through the jungle, with Ziku acting as a guide to her old horrid home. The party are harried by several swarms of Stirge, which stop coming when Quierk finally learns how to properly apply insect repellent. They are also ambushed by Trolls, but escape the encounter in one piece. At the week's end, the party finds a large stone wall blocking off the valley ahead, and spotted on the ramparts are several Yuan-ti of different types.
Ziku first attempts to approach the wall's main gate under the guise of a returning loyal subject, but an outburst from Quierk in the bushes ruins the approach. Quierk and Earl skirmish with a Manticore the Yuan-ti have trained, while Noelle and Cherchael fight from a distance. One "accidental" sword slash too many from Ziku alerts the Yuan-ti Malison present that she's a traitor, but Noelle uses this confusion as a chance to cause unrest between the Pureblood underlings and the Malison superior. The Malison and one of the Purebloods are loyal to the Temple, but the other Pureblood at the gate communicates they are part of a resistance, and once those in their way are dealt with, directs the party to find like-minded others in one of the slave compounds on the other side of the wall.
The party flee the wall, since the Malison set off a loud alarm before he fell, and next time, will be trying to gather information on how to up-end the Temple of Shisara from within.

Session Art Compilation
The first 10 sessions of the campaign follow below. When I have made art for 10 more sessions, I will be adding more to this post thread.
Sessions 1-4 were ran in 2023, and there was a long break due to scheduling. When we came back, only the players for the rivals were available for the first sesh. So instead of not running, I ran a session just for those characters.
Since the events of that session would be technically running at the same time as the main party's next session, I chose to name them 5A and 5B. Denoting that they happened simultaneously from different POVs. It's looking like sessions 10 and possibly 11 will also have different POVs running simultaneously, so i will likely use this A and B naming convention again.

When I have completed 10 more artworks, I will add another post.

Call of the Netherdeep Session Artwork Discussion
Mostly for the purpose of reviewing my own art, when a TTPRG series I do art for gets 10 or so sessions complete, I like to compile all 10 session arts in one post. That way, I can view my works through one link rather than have to track down the individual posts for each art. This post will serve as a discussion of what I've put into my art, and the next post in this thread will be the first 10 artworks.
The Title
As I've explained in previous posts, I try to make the title text of the session arts interesting, giving it a unique identity from other series I illustrate. For Call of the Netherdeep, I first started with the series title in the Draconis font by Pixel Sagas on fontspace.com. Then starting session 2, I backlit this font with silhouettes of various sea creatures, notably, Octopuses and Sharks.
Tumblr media
Since the dark silhouettes would fade if a dark artwork was behind it, I have alternated using the Blue letters on black shapes with an "Invert Colour" version with Red letters on white shapes. This way the title is always distinct from the art behind it. Both red and blue work as colours key to the magic and themes of this campaign, so I'm happy it works out this way.
The Characters and the Focus
Call of the Netherdeep has been an interesting series to do art for. Mostly because of the scale of the adventure. I am summarising events from a pre written adventure, and not only that, from the perspective of the DM, who knows what'll roughly occur each session.
The other difficult part is that I poorly chose to invite EIGHT players to participate in this campaign, and although we rarely have sessions that necessitate more than 5 players at a time, it means if I'm to not play favourites, I would like to spotlight each character fairly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Main party to the left. "The rivals" which are NPCs as written in the book, played by 3 of my less available friends, on the right.
To make the process more straightforward for myself, I reward players who play prominent roles within a sessions with their character being featured. And although this does mean some characters have come up more than once, I hope it'll encourage my players to take initiative.
Starting at Session 9, I've been using a set of icons, stylized like the stock icons from Super Smash Bros Ultimate, that will help me keep track of which characters (and players) were present for each session. I did prioritize every player from each of two parties being present in the first two sessions. But after that, if i needed just one party to be present, i would only need the players from that party. Starting Session 6, both parties have reached a truce in a hub town, so I've encouraged whoever is free to turn up to come, and just running the session for those present.
Tumblr media
Oh no, am I becoming so teacher brained that I'm taking attendance now?
Anyway, the actual compilation of art begins in the next post.

SIX FANARTS - VTUBER EDITION
Over the last couple weeks, I've been drawing Vtubers suggested by followers on Twitter and Instagram. I prioritised suggestions that were familiar to me and/or vtubers I hadn't drawn before.
Instead of drawing characters to fit the template, I decided instead to draw the characters as individual pieces that I later fit into the template. I think this resulted in an array of 6 artworks that individually looked great. Happy with my work.
Here's the six artworks isolated:

(New thing I'm trying where I use these icons to indicate which players were present for the session. The faded out icons represent characters who were absent.)
After doing an ominous reading for a client, fortelling disaster from the coming traders of the Silken Squall, Cherchael joins her friends for lunch to talk to Question and Iwo Zalarre of the Cobalt Soul. They discuss some of the party's plan to travel north and find the temple of the Yuan-ti, and how they can make connections to organise a ride on a Skyship. However, the Cobalt Soul's main concern is with Ank'Harel, and how artefacts from the ruins keep leaving the hands of the Alleigance of Allsight and into the black market. Iwo proposes a job for the party, seeing as infiltration with be important for the Yuan-ti mission; he wants them to investigate a baker named Kruuk, find evidence he is selling illegal magic items, and bring back any magic items they find.
The party investigate the Bakery from the outside during the day, and Aerith finds markings possibly linked to Thieve's Cant. One trip to the Cobalt's library later and they confirm the Bakery is marked as a safehouse and a fence. While at the library, Cherchael researches the Silken Squall, Ramiel researches Ruidium, and Brucey researches a lost relic of his people. The Ruidium and the Penguikokra relic both point to Cael Morrow, the lost city beneath Ank'Harel.
At night, the party return to "Old Man Kruuk's", and Aerith uses her thieve's tools to break into a window, entering the bakery through a bedroom. A secret backroom was obscured by a painting, and they move in to find stolen jewellery, coins, manacles, and various tools of illegal trade. Ramiel finds a lockbox under a table, and while Aerith is trying to unlock it, Brucey notices it is rigged to release a trap when opened. Cherchael and Ramiel, set up as sentries, hear that Kruuk, in an ajoined room, is now meeting with a client. A note they find on a table indicates what is in the box is a weapon, and Kruuk probably intends to sell it to this stranger. Ramiel writes down the names of Kruuk, and his client "Ashann" of the Vermillion Dream, then Earl picks up the box, and they quickly leave before they are discovered.
Back at the Cobalt Soul, with Iwo's help, they open the box to find a shortsword veined with Ruidium. Iwo tells the party the danger of items infused with this foul mineral, and his organisation's wish is to rid the world of its presence.

The party are woken up by an explosion down the street. Cherchael, Ziku, Quierk, and Earl go for a walk to find a Alsfarin Union Skyship yard. They help rescue a couple workers stuck under a cannon, and then learn Ank'Harel is a centre for Skyships across Exandria, and that a noble will be arriving in town soon. Back at their house, they find Question of the Cobalt Soul, who's superior has a quest for them. They are told to tail a suspected cultist to his place of address, interrogate him for his reason to be in Ank'Harel, and take him in if its something malicious.
One chase scene later, and Ziku knocks on the door of their target's apartment. Ziku tries seduction first, but drops all pretence once she and Earl are inside, Cherchael and Quierk watching from outside. This man's name is Laurin Ophidas and he is a follower of the snake goddess Zehir. He has struggled to find any fellow followers and has been searching the city for like-minded people. Upon noticing Ziku's Yuan-ti qualities, he nerds out. Outside, Quierk notices a a group of hooded figures and runs after them. Some cat and mouse through the streets follows, requiring Ziku and Earl's echo to come out and fight. These strangers are revealed to be Yuan-ti Purebloods who were keeping an eye of Ophidas, but once they see Ziku, they tell her that she needs to go home. They KO and tie up two of the Yuan-ti, killing the third, and continue the interrogation in Ophidas' house.
Tumblr media
Ziku reveals to her friends that she was sent as a scout from a Yuan-ti temple, but upon tasting freedom, refuses to return. The captives explain there is big event happening soon, where her former leader will be taking their next step towards Godhood. Ziku kills the Yuan-ti and the party decide to hand in Ophidas for witness protection, now that this encounter seems to have turned him off Zehir. The Cobalt Soul say they'll help Ziku and her friends get to the Yuan-ti temple if they do one more recon mission in the city.
The next day, it is the Alleigance of Allsight's turn to ask for help. An elephant figurine was stolen from them and is now in a pawn ship near Cherchael's place of work. Upon touching the figure, it erupts to life as a corrupted Bronze Elephant statue. It seems very touch and go, but the elephant is locked down and defeated. They hand in the figure, and get a small bit of money for their help. That night, Quierk fights in the Bowl of Judgment (Ank'Harel's resident fight pit). She fights two opponents in single elim and gets 80 G in reward.

This session began with both parties arriving in the oasis city of Ank'Harel. Question the tiefling thanks the group for their help, and gives them a Sending Stone that the Cobalt Soul could contact them with, assuming they would like more work later. Prolix asks the party to come with him to meet with his superior. They talk to one of the Alleigance of Allsight's headmasters, Alakritos, and tell him what they experienced at The Betrayer's Rise. Still untrusting, they leave out the vision they had of Alyxian, and the fact that they have the Jewel with them.
The party spend the next couple days planting roots in the city, they find an empty warehouse for sale in the Ridge District, the industrial sector of the city. Although its initially rough conditions, its cheap enough for the party to collectively afford. Aerith furbishes a garden out the front, and they get the bare essentials of furniture. Cherchael spends time in the marketplace, The Suncut Bazaar, looking for a place to establish her fortune telling business.
Tumblr media
Cherchael eventually meets Hagred Loravan, the master of street stralls in the Bazaar. As a show of skill, Cherchael does a reading for Hagred, and turns up the 3 of Wands (inverted), the Queen of Pentacles (upright), and the 7 of Swords (upright), which she reads as; business was rough in the past, right now the bazaar is financially secure, but there are those who might use deception to try and disrupt this current state in the near future. Hagred interprets this reading as pointing to rumours he heard about a robbery in planning for the Luck's Run Casino, and advises Cherchael to point burly types to an upcoming hiring possibility.
Meanwhile, the more adventurous types in the group are looking for thrilling forms of income. Quierk books an arena fight at the Bowl of Judgment at the end of the week. The group also find a job board at the Crystal Chateau (the Alleigance's base of operations), for a lost cat. They find and the chase the cat, which turns out to be a Tressym, and use hot street food to lure it into their arms, being paid with money and magic scrolls for their effort. Ramiel is warned that his magic armour may be cursed, and one of the scrolls they recieve allows them to reverse this.
Now having carved out a place to settle in the city, the group are now free to explore Ank'Harel for clues on Alyxian's quest, and maybe their own destinies.

This session began with the party still in the depths of The Betrayer's Rise. Beginning the next leg of their journey by taking a breather, they find a torture chamber and begin to piece together the main influences within the dungeon. A trap mechanism that demands portions of their blood, and an ambush by the reanimated firey skulls of long-dead cultists put a serious drain on their vitality, and the party lock themselves away from danger to take a rest. They find a stairway going to the next floor, and emerge into a large chamber with a giant screaming statue, held there by the chains of Torog, evil god of torture. Close proximity to the statue threatens madness, so they choose to explore other parts of this floor first.
South of the giant statue is a square room surrounding a pool of boiling blood. Two statues of blood covered orc soldiers erupt to life and the door closes behind them. The battle that follows is gruelling; a lot of close misses, but every time the orcs don't miss, large chunks of their health is sapped. A few rounds into this fight, Noelle falls, and it seems that the party might be hopelessly outmatched, but then Quierk slays one of the orc blood soldiers, Earl makes sure the other is slain soon after, and the party stabilise Noelle before setting up a makeshift camp site in one of the dungeon's hallways. The long rest is not without its dangers, but camouflage and quiet make sure they are not discovered before everyone recovers. At the bottom of a cavern, the party find the remains of soldiers and scholars who fell to their death from the floor above, and realise, if they were careful, they could use the walls of this chasm to escape. They loot the bodies and return to the Screaming Statue.
Tumblr media
"The Arms of Torog" Call of the Netherdeep, page 71
After exploring some of the smaller chambers around this room, Ziku spots masses of pulsing discolouration on the underside of statues of huge arms surrounding the screaming man, and attempts to attack from below, but she gets too close and succumbs to a curse, one that makes her violent towards her fellow adventurers. After a brief scuffle, Noelle casts sleep on her and then they move her away from the room. She awakes, still angry, so Cherchael casts Dispel Magic, temporarily numbing the curse. This statue seems to be the only way forward, so they reapproach carefully. Through Earl's echo, and various ranged attacks from everyone else, they pustules on the hands are destroyed, opening the doors on the statue's chest. Bracing themselves, Cherchael and Noelle pass into the worst parts of the screaming but resist the curse, Quierk tries but succumbs to her curse. Ziku backs up, and Earl attempts to restrain her. Quierk does soon overcome these effects, but the other Betrayer God in her mind, Lolth, takes over, asking her to submit Earl and Ziku to effects of Torog's hunger. Quierk successfully pulls Earl into the fray, and he falls to the curse, Ziku rushes past both of them and successfully overcomes the curse before crashing down the stairs past this doorway. Cherchael also goes down the stairs, and Noelle stands at the doorway, ready to intervene if either Earl or Quierk get close to killing one another.
Finally, Quierk comes to her senses and goes past Noelle down the stairs. Noelle uses the hunger of Torog to coax the frenzied Earl after her, and while the group rush down the stairs, Earl too overcomes his curse. At the bottom of these stairs, the party find themselves in a room surrounded by crystals and a round alter in the middle. Feeling this is the spot to present the Jewel of Three Prayers. They fall into a temporary slumber, where Alyxian the Apotheon shows the party snippets of the journey he took to awaken the original powers of the Jewel, the opposition he recieved from the Betrayer Gods, and the fear he felt on that journey. They party ask him more about how they could go about finding him, and why his imprisonment matters to the world at large, and Alyxian tells them about Ank'Harel, and how evil people are weaponising his grief.
The vision ends with Aloysia thanking them for bringing the Jewel to her and demands Aerith, Brucey, and Ramiel to slay them and bring it to her. Aerith and co. have had enough of Aloysia anyway at this point, and interpose themselves between the main party and the scholar. Aloysia is enraged at this, and attempts to magically entomb them in this chamber, before running. The combine effort of both parties help them escape but Aloysia is far gone. The groups return to Bazzoxan so they can tell Prolix about Aloysia's antics and Question about the fate of her party (at the bottom of the chasm). Prolix pays them for their efforts and offers a magical lift back to Ank'Harel, where he, Question (and Aloysia) are from. The parties are whisked away from the dreary Bazzoxan and look up to see the clear skies and lush paradise of Ank'Harel.
