Owlet Griffin, a curious creature size of a wild cat. The griffins live in forests and groves, nesting inside spacious enough tree holes and abandoned badger burrows. There are lots of cases when they settled in human barns, preying on mice and ferrets, which makes the creatures useful for farmers. Owlet griffins are easy to tame and get along well with humans, some people even manage to train them for hunting, so you can often find them kept as pets in forest villages.

I’ve just read 2024 is a year of Green Dragon 🐉

Fern fairy dragons are lizard-sized creatures nesting in thickets of fern or bush near rivers and springs. In spite of their cheerful and curious nature, they are wary of strangers coming close to their dwellings and they won’t wait for long to attack a possible threat. The dragons are able to breathe out dense clouds of sparkling purple gas, making most of sentient beings like humans and gnomes laugh aloud unstoppably for hours or even days, if a portion of inhaled gas was too big, bursting into tears, cheeks sick of constant tension, not able to drink or eat, so you’d better stay away from their colonies and patiently watch them playing, hunting and casting some simple magic spells from afar, every day standing a little bit closer. After awhile they will probably get used to you and then making friends with the creatures may become a life-changing experience.

Bark Tortoise 🐢 🌳

It is a creature from one powerful dryad’s forest, who tried to save her trees from wildfires, droughts and cutting by turning them into animal shapes so that they can move to a better place for growing. From an old but still alive stub a tortoise appeared. It was too slow for keeping the same pace and also too curious watching the beautiful things around it instead of keeping an eye on where all the forest team goes so quite soon it got lost and had no idea where to go further. It could find any place to dig deep enough and get back to the shape it was used to have for ages but who would change a tortoise body for becoming a tree stub again! It didn’t want to stand still ever again and preferred travelling the world, admiring its beauty and variety.

Lilith is a baby vampire, dreaming of walking under the Sun yet her babysitter Theodor, a demon’s head decorated with a few artificial flowers, is carefully watching her protecting the child with spells from coming even close to any curtain in her kin’s castle daytime. Oh, she’s a clever little girl, she knows it is forbidden yet she’s eager to try it anyway, it is so hard to see nothing but shades of red and gray in the dim light of candles and fireplaces... Her favourite toy is a teddybear she calls Sunny, and hugging it she imagines herself dreaming in a beautiful garden, rays of light warming her cheeks and nose.

Swamp Basilisk, a furious beast scouring bogs and marshes in search for something to prey on. The fact its sight may turn anything looking into its eyes to stone is useful for defending itself from predators and hunters yet is very annoying when it’s hungry, for it cannot feed on boulders. It makes the creature prey with its eyes shut or at least covered with nictitating membranes relying mostly on smell, taste and touch. Its claws and saliva are poisonous so it usually doesn’t try to kill its prey at once, only to scratch or peck it deeply. Then the basilisk may follow the poisoned for days all in wait until it becomes weak and helpless. Once got into the prey’s blood system, the poison changes the body smell, then the basilisk may sense it for miles away. The problem is, other creatures of the species may smell it too. If some competitor appears in hope for free dinner, the starving creatures strike for it to the last and often, blinded by fury, they forget to keep their sights away from the prey which bring them another stone figurine instead of precious food.

Miss Toadstool and her perfect shroom hat 😍 she’s so good at turning humans into frogs and toads yet she still has no idea how to bring them back to normal in case she did it occasionally🤭 also, they look so natural it is impossible to tell which one is a frog or an enchanted human that’s why hags and witches collecting some frogs for potions near her place of living from time to time get absolutely unexpected results 😵‍💫🐸
