Fic title: So Now Who's Been Doing A Little Drinking?
Brettsey
It's three in the morning when Sylvie is woken up by some loud clattering noises and a string of loud curse words. She briefly panics, thinking that maybe a burglar had somehow bypassed their alarm system but when she glances at Matt's side of the bed to find it hasn't been slept on, she realizes he must just be coming home from his bachelor's party.
Since he hadn't been around to throw Severide's, the latter promised him one for the ages and as Sylvie slips out of bed, she thinks the Squad Lieutenant must have come through.
She pads downstairs to find Matt being held up by Gallo and Ritter. His eyes were half closed and he seemed to be singing a song that was vaguely familiar to her. Once she's closer to them, she pieces it together - it's 22 by Taylor Swift. She lets out a snort of laughter and the three men look up at her.
Matt's eyes widen as he tries to stumble out of Gallo and Ritters arms, opening his own widely, grinning goofily at Sylvie.
"Hey, baby," he greets, slurring his words, still smiling at her.
Sylvie lets out another peel of laughter, that is, until Matt's foot gets caught on the rug and she barely manages to break his fall, looping her arms around his waist and grunting as she tried to help him up.
Gall and Ritter rush towards her but she waves them off, telling him she could handle her fiancé. Guess all those strength training classes she took did come in handy.
They bid her good night, both looking a bit sheepish but she tells them it's okay. She had her own bachelorette party last weekend and she definitely came home a bit tipsy, still in the plastic tiara and sash Violet made her wear. She even remembers telling Matt how much she loved him every five seconds until she fell asleep on the kitchen counter while he was making her a cup of tea.
"Come on, babe, let's get you to bed," she says gently, guiding him slowly towards the stairs and up the steps one by one.
He doesn't say a word until they reach the second floor landing and Sylvie steers him towards their bedroom.
"You just want to have your way with me," he states, smirking at her, "but I don't mind."
Sylvie chuckles. It was rare to see Matt drunk and she was quite enjoying this side of him.
"Have my way with you, huh?" Sylvie replies as she turns to face him, raising an eyebrow, trailing a hand across his chest. She chuckles when she notices his reaction. He might be a little drunk but behind the haze of the alcohol, Sylvie thinks she can see how his eyes have darkened. She shakes her head, "so, who's been doing a little drinking now?"
She opens the door to their room and once they're inside, she moves to the dresser to fetch him some clothes to change into. She doesn't get far though because he encircles her wrist and pulls her back to him. With surprising agility, he pins her down onto the bed and Sylvie lets out a loud yelp in surprise. She didn't expect his reflexes to kick in like that with the amount of alcohol he seemed to have drank.
"Or maybe I'll have my way with you," he whispers in her ear, nipping at her ear lobe before his mouth begins to trail, hot kisses along her jaw then her neck.
Sylvie moans, arching her back as she feels his hand slips beneath her pajama top, moving up from her stomach to her chest.
Jesus Christ, even if he was drunk, he was still very good at pushing all her buttons.
She finds his own shirt, trying to pull it above his head but then loud snores begin to fill the air. She's confused at first until she takes a peek at Matt. His face was buried against her neck, his eyes closed, breathing even, lips slightly parted as he continued to snore.
She lets out a low grunt, rolling her eyes. Of course the alcohol had taken over completely and he fell asleep almost as soon as they hit the bed. She slowly rolls him over until he's lying on his back. They'd have to continue this some other time. She smoothes down his hair, gazing at his peaceful face. She grabs the blanket, tucking him in and kissing his forehead before leaving the room to get a bottle of aspirin and some water, which Matt will surely need in the morning.
When Matt wakes up, the sun is shining a little too brightly for his liking and he groans loudly. It was like there was a loud pounding in his head and as he looks around, he tries to piece back the night before. It was his bachelor's party and he may have gotten drunk on some frilly drink that had those paper umbrella garnishes on them. He glances at Sylvie's side of the bed to find it empty. He looks around for his phone to find it on the nightstand next to a bottle of aspirin and a glass of water. He smiles as he chugs the water, popping a pill for good measure. Sylvie was really thoughtful. He's sure he didn't get to bed by himself as he continues to recall bits of last night in his head.
He makes his way to the kitchen to find Sylvie making breakfast. There's the smell of bacon grease that makes his stomach grumble. He slides behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist, kissing her cheek in greeting.
"Good morning," he says.
Sylvie turns to face him, grinning, "morning, sleeping beauty, how'd you sleep?"
"Not too bad considering how much I had to drink," Matt remarks, rubbing the sleep from his eyes.
Sylvie smirks at him, "oh, I know. I heard you singing the lines 'happy, free, confused and lonely in the best way'. It made my year."
Matt groans, hanging his head. Now that Sylvie mentioned it, he vaguely remembers himself doing that. He blames it on that blasted song playing at the last place they went to before Gallo and Ritter brought him home.
As Sylvie continues to tease him about it, cracking eggs into a pan, something else dawns on him. He reaches towards the stove, turning the burners off and Sylvie glances at him, a puzzled expression crossing her face.
"I distinctly remember saying something about having my way with you," he mentions lowly, his eyes trailing from her face down to her pajama shorts.
Sylvie lets out a squeal when he carries her bridal style back into the bedroom, laughing as they went.
Breakfast could always wait.

What are your thoughts about what came out yesterday? You don’t have to share if you don’t want to.
I’m disappointed like everyone else - I liked/ reblogged a couple of posts that expressed things better than I can, especially this one. But I can also separate character from actor so nothing has changed for me in terms of my love for Sylvie and Brettsey although I understand why others have a different POV on that.

i feel the need to address this on here bc ive briefly mentioned it on twitter.
i’m sure some of yall have seen that thread going around on twitter. none of what was said by her is anything i support and is absolutely not okay, im truly disappointed. with that being said, i love brettsey and i love sylvie. i found comfort in this fictional ship and character in the last two years that have been the hardest for me. separating the actor from the character is possible, which is something im willing to do because of how much i love them, but will be hard. from now on, if you see me making posts about the two above, its strictly about the characters ONLY. to everyone who is hurt by what was put out today, i hope you're okay and your feelings are valid. if you want to talk, my messages are open (here and my dms on twt). <3

What predictions do you have about what’s going to happen with Brettsey?
Honestly I don’t have any, anon. I don’t know if they left them in limbo because they’re hoping to keep them together but they haven’t ironed out guest slots with Jesse or because they’re splitting them up but want Brettsey fans to keep tuning in. I suppose we’ll all find out in the premiere.

With Hawkami, I have seen some people say that Violet handled things wrong with Hawkins in the finale, that she shouldn't have been so cold towards him, ignored him and then accused him of not doing enough to handle the Emma situation.
But I actually agree with Violet because, to me, Hawkins didn't do enough as the Paramedic Chief and Violet's boyfriend to handle the Emma situation until he noticed that Violet was pulling away.
Emma was endangering patients' lives and Violet and gaslighting Violet. This wasn't enough for Hawkins to tell his superiors what was happening and get rid of Emma. He was so concerned about his reputation and career that he allowed Emma to endanger patients. I'm sorry, but this is not the type of Paramedic Chief I want to watch.
This is why I have continued to say that Hawkins never once thought (it's not all on Hawkins, really, because it feels like Violet didn't either, but that's more OOC writing from the writers) about how his and Violet's relationship would affect her. The Emma situation highlighted this because Violet went to Hawkins about Emma. Still, he thought he couldn't do anything because it would seem like Violet's boyfriend stepping in instead of her boss.
Side note -the conclusion of Emma's storyline was such a letdown.
Everything you said! The show and fans are still glossing over Hawkins’ inaction as if it’s nothing when he knowingly put patients in danger to save himself. Like you, I don’t want to watch such self-serving people and be told they’re the good guys. He’s not.
If you put yourself in Violet’s shoes you have a boyfriend who is also your boss who did nothing for a whole month, possibly more, but ask you to sit tight and wait for Brett to get back except that doesn’t work because Brett’s back and it looks like you’re probably being transferred. Think about what Violet has experienced since Emma joined ambo. She’s been looking over her shoulder every shift, been gaslighted, has had to check equipment and stock more often that she normally would in case Emma has pulled something, has had to do the job of two paramedics because Emma can’t be trusted to keep patients safe. She must be mentally exhausted but Hawkins’ response the whole time is for her to just wait it out.
The scene with Hill that Violet isn’t aware of doesn’t make much of a difference to me. Like you said it only happened after Violet started pulling away from Hawkins and all it proved to me was that he could have done more previously but he didn’t because it would have jeopardised his career, not because he was thinking of the fallout for both of them. A grand gesture doesn’t make up for weeks of sticking his fingers in his ears and acting like the problem will be solved by itself in time.
The reaction to this whole situation has been disappointing but not surprising. Hawkins can knowingly endanger patients’ lives and that’s no problem at all but Violet doesn’t answer a phone call as she’s preparing a friend’s wedding and all of a sudden she’s close to being ruined as a character? I’m not here for those misogynistic double standards.
Completely agree with you that the conclusion to Emma’s SL was a letdown. It’s the only SL I’ve found engaging recently but they wasted a golden opportunity. Also as a bit of a side note I laughed so hard when Hawkins was giving his snarling speech to Emma from up on his high horse about how she abandoned her partner. Erm, excuse me Chief, but didn’t you abandon every patient to the care of a paramedic you knew to be a danger because you thought of yourself first?
