The rose
It’s was a warm day that Friday . Unusually warm for a December morning in Chicago. Tammy was used to the weather being out of whack at this point , as her mother would say “ Chicagos weather is unpredictable with this global warming”. Her mothers words echoed in her head like they did on every unusually warm winter day. Tammy was headed to her job at the law firm Sandersons law firm from her sky rise in south loop downtown. Sandersons is one of the biggest law firms in the city. Most people would be intimidated working with big power house attorneys, but not Tammy. She had the courage of a lion, something her grandmother prided her on when she was a little girl. Very determined like her father who was a surgeon that started from humble beginnings in Tennessee. Tammy was sure that’s where her ambitions attributes came from. With looks that could turn anyone’s head for a double look, she was a double threat to anyone who dared to compete. As she’s heading towards her 2024 Mercedes g class she notices something that catches her eye. “Oh HELL no” she says as she sees someone has slipped in single rose under her windshield wiper on the drivers side. Normally a flattering gesture but not on her brand new 200,000 dollar car! Underneath the rose a card that reads I hope this makes you smile! Tammy lightens up a little as she carefully removes the rose first then the card. Ok it’s cute I guess Tammy says to herself . She opens the card and it reads.
Dear neighbor,
I hope I’m not startling you with this note. I couldn’t help but notice you the other day and as I tried to catch you you were getting in you car and pulled off. I would love to take you out sometime if your free.
My number is 312-234-6789 call or text me sometime?
Tammy didn’t know what to think at this point. She thought should I be scared or flattered? Oddly enoughI’m flattered. She pushes the flattery down her throat like a huge gulp of water and jumps in he car. Her Yves Saint Laurent pumps pressuring hard on the gas as she speeds off with a extra boost of confidence from the mystery letter. She arrives to work about thirty minutes early something she always done since a child. Her mother was a stay at home mom who believed if your on time your late and she instilled this in Tammy and her younger sister Tina. Tammy arrive to the firm garage parking lot and heads toward the large glass revolving door walking down the hall her heels clicking on the marble floor to the elevator. She gets to her office and puts her Louis Vuitton purse in its usual spot a drawer specially made to fit every designer bag Tammy owns. Her entire office dripped power from the colors she chose for her wall art ( an very pricey abstract piece mixed with red and navy swirls). To the hundreds of books on her costumed made bookshelf. Her assistant Marie made sure she had coffee and fresh roses cut and perfectly placed on her desk every morning befor Tammy arrives. She sits at her desk and lets a smile creep across her face like the sun at high noon in her 12th floor office floor windows. How did he know roses were my favorite and who is this mysterious man, she thinks to herself. Tammy gave him the name the note guy, since no name was left. The note guy slowly drifted to the back of Tammy’s mind as she remember all the work there was to be done. That Friday felt like the longest Friday ever. That morning she had been working on a case with her client Bill. Bill was suing a large pharmaceutical company for ailments he had acquired while using prescription medication for 12 years with no warning of his specific ailments. It’s a challenge that Tammy loves to take on but draining none the least. A knock on the door from Marie. “Sorry to interrupt but John (Tammy’s boss and partner at Sandersons) is wanting to talk you. “ ok thank you Marie” Tammy says dismissing her assistant.
Tammy removes her glasses and heads down the hall to johns office. As she’s walking she notices a familiar face but she can’t quite make out from where. It was a very handsome man who had been talking to her co worker Matt in the conference room located in the middle of the firm surrounded by noise drowning glass windows. It was hard to tell if he was a client or a attorney. He was wearing a perfectly tailored suit in the color navy with a black tie. A very polished classic look. His hair perfectly cut with a low fade and beautiful brown skin. Tammy didn’t want to stare so she gave a quick smile and continued to johns office. “You wanted to see me” she says after a soft knock on the cracked door. Her voice prompted John to spin around in his chair. A very dramatic move typical John move. “Ah yes, come in have a seat” says John with delightful enthusiasm. I’ve been wanting to talk to you about our new employee Malcom, you may have seen him on your way working with Matt? He says as Tammy slowly sits in his square chair placed perfectly caddy corner to his desk. Have you two been introduced? Hell no Tammy thinks. “ no I have not “ she replies in a confident tone. Well you will be working with him on the case against HJ pharmaceutical, I will introduce you both. John calls his assistant Brian to fetch the tall dark handsome man who she now has to work with. Great she thinks to herself first the note now this. Her nerves balling up like a piece of paper getting ready to be shot In a waist basket. She give John a awkward smile as she ticks her hair. A nervous tick she has. She turns around as she hears deep voice say thank you followed by Malcom walking in with a smirk that showed a little of his perfect white teeth. “ Well hello” Malcom says. John chimes in, I would like you to meet our very talented attorney Tammy, your going to be working with her on our high profile case Williams vs H. J pharmaceutical. Tammy says, it’s very nice to meet you, she was uncontrollably smiling from ear to ear as the words slipped through the crack of her smile. The scent of his cologne went straight through Tammy, he smelled like a warm musk that hugs your senses in all the right ways. They exchange a firm handshake the one that says business is going to get handled. Like wise Malcom replies. Why don’t you and Malcom go over the case so you guys can get right to it says John dismissing the two to get to work immediately. After all of if they won this case it meant big money for Sandersons John tammy and now Malcom. “Follow me” says Tammy showing Malcom the way to her office. A sense of knowing Malcom was checking tammy out from behind came over her. I mean who wouldn’t she had the perfect fit and toned coke bottle shape that she played up in her wait synching tailored suits stylishly put together. Todays color pick was cream. A color that complements her deep honey toned skin so perfectly. Her hair she usually wears up in a curly updo, was flowing perfectly down her back in big dark brown waves today. Tammy called it her Friday hair. As they approach her office Tammy ask Malcom if he had any questions before they began “not as of now, I’m sure you’ll fill me in on everything” replies Malcom. A sudden flash of the rose came across Tammy’s mind almost like her mind was trying to actively make Malcom the mystery man. She shakes the thought and picks up her office phone. “ Marie would you pull all the files for the H.J case, “sure thing” replies Marie. Thank you says tammy followed by her putting the phone back to the receiver. So we have a very intricate case here. Our client Bill is suing H.J for 60 million due to their medication causing severe liver damaged that was not labeled or Cautioned to him before or during his use of culex a prescription drug the company uses for mental health conditions, in his case anxiety. Since it isn’t something he had to take he is suing for the lack of caution and side affects the drugs could potentially and now have caused and could have been avoided. Marie knocks on the door, “come in Marie” Tammy says,
