Last night I tried doing a coloured pencil portrait for the first time!
It’s not super accurate to the photo reference, but it is pretty accurate to the person, so I’m pretty happy with it. :)
Looking forward to doing more portraits!

A poem whose author was credited only as “Shonda,” visualized across a wall of windows and printed onto a paper bag, to be bound into a short art book about recognizing one’s emotions.
“I am happy just
being me.
And also I feel good
just doing whatever I want.
What I do
is a part of me,
even the silliest things.
No matter what
I say or do,
I am still the same person.
And I am glad
what I am.”
- Shonda

Another part to my series on depression. While they all address hollowness in one form or another, this one is focused on the interaction between the depressed self and the outside world.
In desperation to end the pain, I’ve emptied myself of all innards, but am unable to sever the last tie to life. With bloodied hands, I offer the task to someone else.

Another portrait using a model. I loved her class and ease. It reminded me of someone the impressionists might have painted. She was always great to work with, every time I painted her!

Portrait using a model. My first ever oil painting. I love using oils; it feels like what I’ve always wanted painting to be.

From a short series I did on depression, trying to describe the individual feelings that it can encompass for me.
This one was about the feeling of breaking. Sometimes your own thoughts become so overwhelmed that it turns into chaotic noise, and it is simultaneously overwhelming, all-encompassing, and meaningless. It fills the head until you finally break, and discover that you were actually so hollow and fragile that the your world shatters like glass.

This was my first attempt to draw a scene from Harry Potter closer to how I envisioned it when reading the books, as opposed to the way the movies portrayed it. Everyone wearing robes, Sirius extremely pale and gaunt (though not one of the Gaunts, of course), Lupin calmly defending him and staying close by his side once he realizes what happened all those years ago.
Hope you enjoy!
