Marin Honda (JPN): Faded | 2023 Japanese Nationals
marin on her last nationals:
"when i touched the ice surface, i was very thankful. since the warm-up, i saw many banners and realized how many people supported me. this gave me the strength to make it to the end.
i started skating when i was two years old, and i've made many experiences both in practice and competitions. the public practice was very hard, and i thought about changing the triple combination to a double. i'm very satisfied with my performance."
although marin was injured, she decided to not withdraw and give her last nationals (and likely her last competition) her very best. to the 2016 junior world champion and perpetual champion of hearts, thank you for everything!

Hi Mr. Weedman,
Tl;dr: If you had a more convenient way to do it, would you give tablet weaving another shot?
Long time fan, first time asker. I actually got into textiles/fibercraft via tablet weaving, so even just seeing the warp for the blanket all nice and lined up got me psyched. Someday i wanna try spinning yarn for my own weaving.
While stalking your blog looking at your work I saw you gave tablets a shot, and I was sad to see it gave you so much trouble. Thus, my question.
I started out doing it exactly as you did (but with disposable chopsticks), and got just as frustrated with worse results. I was too deep in hyperfixation to do anything else tho, so after a ton of trial and error I've figured out some cool stuff, like this:
If you attach a weight to the far end of the warp (a partially filled water bottle is nice for adjusting tension) and drape it over something horizontal like the back of a chair, you can sit somewhere comfy and still attach it at your belt.
I'm hoping to make a demo post or video soon focusing on ADHD and financial accessibility. If you're interested I'd love to hear your take on it, either from a dyslexic POV or just as someone way more experienced with textiles.
Thanks for everything,
especially the dick positivity,
Birdie
I have actually been thinking about tablet weaving a lot recently ! i came to the conclusion last time i tried it that i'd need an inkle loom, which i do now have the tools to make (just not the time or the materials at this moment). but your suggestion of adding weight to the other end to achieve the tension necessary, rather than needing to pull against it with one's body, is such a good idea !!!
i'd be fascinated to see your demo on it--please do send it to me/@ me when it's done, and i'd be happy to try it out and tell you my thoughts on itl ! i think i plan on building an inkle loom either way, but i enjoyed the simplicity of backstrap so much, and if there's a way for me to do it without as much pain i absolutely wanna try again. if im understanding you, it sounds like you could have the weaving tensioned on the back of a chair but could also sit in a backed chair while weaving ? that would fix it for me. and even if that setup isn't possible, im still much more hopeful that there's a way to make it work for me.
it's really great to hear about other fiber folks who hyperfixated their way through stuff not working and having a cheap setup, that's how i end up learning everything too xD
this was a lovely ask to receive , thank you for sending it :D

See this bit confused the absolute crap out of me when I was trying to gather dates for my chronology--
Because Watson sets up this paragraph talking about 'Things Holmes Did In 1895', but this is a reference to The Priory School, which cannot occur earlier than 1901.
So after being confused for a good twenty minutes, I looked again at the publication order and swore a bit -- because we won't get that story for ages, but this is a callback to the previous month's story.
So yeah. That's who the Duke of Holdernesse is. He's a guy Holmes and Watson won't meet for a minimum of six years, that Watson can only reference because these stories are written in retrospect.

btw i just thought of this now. initially i assigned gillion an aegislash just straight up and didnt really think about it like "oh theyve been through training and know each other so i guess that checks out".. but thinking about poketide, spreading out evolutions is obviously good to help with pacing and mark milestones. so here's the thought now.
gillion STILL has a honedge when he joins the story, and they evolve into doublade episode 15 which coincicides with gillion's growth as he develops a better understanding of the world (also there was a sword fight like yeah its fitting). HOWEVER, to evolve into an aegislash you need a dusk stone. i think it'd be reasonable to say they dont rlly have much of those in the undersea, or at least they hadnt thought to give gillion one, so how is his pokemon going to evolve??? well i propose that doublade evolves episode *73* in tandem with when gillion makes the oath of vengence... i feel like its such a noteworthy moment for gillion AND the magical effects charlie describes are as follows "..and you see as the sparkles around him- this funny, zanny, quirky pixie dust starts to turn into almost a charcoalish colour-" <- that seems like adequate dusk stone vibes to me.
btw jay's fletchinder has evolved into talonflame episode 100. i've decided. she has her wings, she fights her dad, not to mention we shortly after find out abt ava!!! like ALL the important ferin things happened. it's too fucking big of a milestone that she doesnt get her massive bird. congratulations jay ferin, bird!! its so cute they can fly side by side now :')

I have a lot of other things that I need to spend money on first but the more I think about it the more I want to get an actual setup for digitising sewing patterns. My current setup is fine for doing it occasionally but a couple of hundred dollars of laser-engraved acrylic and a decent camera would really speed up the process, and my friends who actually did fashion design at uni have pointed out that there are drafting papers available with 1 inch grids already on them that would make it easy enough to copy off a pattern using the grid without anyone ever needing to print them out.
What’s more, original copies of a couple of patterns that are seemingly pretty big sellers as reproductions are currently on auction on ebay, and I would very much like to upload my own reproductions for free. I know that it is immensely petty, but I am dying to see what the reproduction seller’s response is.

that tumblr post that’s like “never trust anything you think about your life after 8-9pm” but instead of “your life” it’s “starting DTA” and instead of “8-9pm” it’s “thirty minutes before you need to go to bed”

and despite being the highest earner of my siblings, i also can't afford to buy the 2/3rds of the house's value from my siblings, and sincerely doubt i will work my way up the financial ladder enough for it by the time it becomes relevant (which i hope is still a solid 20 years away)
