📖 (from Skraelofthenorthwind)
@skraelofthenorthwind
Hisirdoux is not much a melee fighter-- not that Merlin has yet allowed him many lessons on combative magic, anyway-- but he did grow up on the streets. He looked harmless, but he had been forced to defend himself more than a few times. As such, he doesn’t own many weapons, nor quality ones at that, but he does have a small knife he’d swiped from a passing palace guard-- he was quite sure the man had plenty of access to replacements. Hisirdoux wouldn’t claim to be a warrior by any measure, but if he had to, he could hold his own. Usually, he also had Archie’s help, so generally, his need to fight another person was tempered by his own familiar’s help.
It’s Morgana who notices that Hisirdoux carries the knife in a sheath on his belt, hidden from plain view by one of the packs attached at his hip.
It is also Morgana who asks him if he knows how to use it.
In an anxious, ramble-y way, he roundabout gets to his answer, which boils down to: yes, but no. (He was still new to everything, and could barely believe that Morgana was even talking to him, much less trying to learn something about him).
Morgana offers to train him, then. Of course, first he needs a proper dagger. She almost throws out his knife, as it is considerably dulled, but he saves it before she does, unable to part with it. It is a rare physical possession of his that he procured on his own. (He is still afraid that if he gets sent away again, he will lose whatever possessions have been given him in his stay at the castle).
Still, she makes him practice with the good dagger that she’s given him, and while it’s a touch different than some dull, glorified kitchen knife, he is able to adapt what he’d been doing on instinct into actual technique. He is not exactly planning on becoming a master melee combatant, but he can hold his own, and Morgana does not fear his competency with blades any longer.
When he gets far enough in his lessons with the dagger, she begins teaching him staff tricks sans magic, but those are even more secret than the secret dagger training, because Merlin would kill her if he found out. She just thinks it’s sweet how excited he is at someday getting his own staff.

Well played Master Aaron, well played 🤦
On that note, this also gave me a little thought about our master wizards' staffs! This may already be obvious to many in the fandom but might as well dwell into it none the less.
This is about how the staffs aren't only are a great tool / extension for a wizard's magic but how it's appearances and capabilities also represent and reflect the wielder's creativity, personality and level of mastery of their Magic.
Let's being with Merlin Ambrosius:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
His staff if called the staff of Avalon. It's handle seems to share the same metal that made up most of Merlin's armor albeit in a darker shade and somewhat have matching intricate accents and pattern much like said armor along with it's respective handle and knuckle guard. On the very top, sits a fairly sized Emerald crystal which I think reflects his over-all image as a wizard. Emerald crystals represent intuition, great focus and enhanced foresight which we all know are one of Merlin's key traits. What makes Merlin's staff different from his pupils' is how he wields it. As a -for the lack of a better word- "by the book" kind of Wizard, Merlin cannot (perhaps to his preference) dematerialize his staff like Douxie's and cannot retract like Morgana's and is always seen carrying it physically resulting in minor hindrances similar to when he lost his staff to Gunmar in troll hunters and when he dropped it when the Arcane Order attacked Camelot and only got it back with the help of Arch. This shows that he does not have the capability to summon his staff at will. This implies it's either he designed his staff that way because he believes that he has no need of additional capabilities aside from it being a helpful tool in spell casting or that because of how he perceives magic and his life philosophy as a wizerd reflected how far he can "costumize" his staff. His staff also -in a way- reflects his methods of manifesting magic and that is from his key traits. Unlike emotion intuition, knowledge and keen foresight is a great substitute for magic. A wizard can also harvest power and energy from one's own intentions so long as they mean it and need it and this is perhaps where Merlin generated his magic from and I think we can agree that Merlin barely relied on emotions and instead direct his goal of using magic to his knowledge as a means to succeed in any given obstacle.
Next is Morgana le fay:
Tumblr media
Her staff is by far the easiest to decipher. Morgana's staff is called Skath Rhün. As you may have noticed, it's structure resembles that of dragon scales or a texture similar to one of stone. It has no crystal anywhere attached to it and is the only staff known to change its color depending on the wielder's emotions when using it as well as it's ability to conviniently retract at will . The reason to all these features is because of WHO Morgana is. Since Morgana was reintroduced to us in Wizards, we came to understand that Morgana cared for the troll kind and other magical creatures that Arthur had banished out of spite. She also had a natural talent for sorcery and spell casting along with the gift of shadowmancy which further solidifies her strong bond with magic. My personal take of why her staff does not bear a crystal is because of the kind of magic she gravitates to: shadowmancy. Crystals are supposed to represent a wizard's key values and traits in order to manifest magic. Morgana's key to manifesting magic, however is slightly different. Just like what Douxie had once said "magic IS emotion." This was brought up when he was teaching Clair how to use magic without the need of a staff and what magic was Douxie teaching Clair? shadowmancy. Meaning this kind of magic required much more than just ingredients and incantations. It requires emotions. Now how does this tie up to Morgan's lack of crystals on her staff? Because emotion is not a tangible trait. Unlike Merlin's key traits, emotions cannot be contained nor controlled. Only redirected; Emotions consume you, they pull the strings to which you cannot control. However, you can bend it to a direction where it benefits you (but not without cost). Intuition and the ability of foresight are traits that one developes overtime. Emotion is something that come with you the moment you are born which would corelate to why her staff changes color depending on the wielder's emotions. On another note, Morgana is not as different as Merlin in terms of carrying her staff. Unlike Merlin's her staff retracts at will and can be summoned with the encantation "azazazuth khenek thün" which proved to be convenient at times. But like Merlin's case it isn't as convinient given that not only did Morgana lose her staff at some point, Angor Rot and Clair did as well at times because it still retains a physical form.
And lastly Hisirdoux Casperan:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Douxie's staff is THE most unique one I have came across so far from the show🖤 where do I begin!? Okay to start, Hisirdoux's staff is called Spellcaster guitar (appropriately so) and appears to be made of black Iron as a handle with it's respective handle and knuckle guard (foreshadowing Merlin's staff?) along with sky- blue accents and a gold-ish plate on the top that closely resembles his eyes. He can dematerialize and rematerialize it from his magic cuff at will as well as transmute it as a guitar (hence it's name?) and within the hoop of the staff sits his respective crystal. I honestly had a hard time figuring out which cristal it was but then decided on it being a sapphire (You'll know why). Another key feature to his staff is it's ability to stand or levitate in of itself as well as it's ability to return to it's owner without the need of any sort of encantation. Douxie's staffmanship is indeed a very unique one at that and it rightfully reflects him as a whole character. Starting with the reason why I settled for sapphire as Douxie's respective crystal. It's because one: it looks close to what a Sapphire would look like and two: because it's meaning closely resembles himself and his key traits to generate his magic. The Sapphire symbolizes Psychic awareness, Insight, wisdom, Self-discipline and focus which perfectly portrayed Douxie's development for the past 900 years and in addition with the time jump incident. (the scene where Merlin instructed him to feel the stone that called for him was a momentous event for me since it works the same with ACTUAL Witchcraft. When we chose an item to represent our whole being to stand as our extensions for certain spells, we don't just pick in random, we feel which items felt the most compelling, and it goes the same to which crystals/gem stones we use in a craft. Here, Douxie did the same and might be as well for both Merlin and Morgana.) These key traits are what drives Douxie to manifest his magic; It's the core anchor to where he harvests his magic. The next is when his staff's transmutation as a guitar. This one is where I was very proud of him for. His master told him to channel himself to his staff and make it an extension of his own and transmuting it into a guitar was just beautiful! For me, the reason why he chose to turn his staff into a guitar of all things instead of it being an ACTUAL weapon is because he knows he doesn't have to follow the rules to win. He formed his own rules to benefit him in a particular situation with comfort and to give himself somewhat a form of incentive to maximize the efficiency of his performance. It's similar to how even if your sneakers are very worn out, they still provide you comfort and that's enough, compared to a new pair of shoes where you'd be a victim of blisters 😱. This alone proved that Douxie put Merlin's lessons to heart but at the same time utilizes his own creativity with it in order to make "unexpected possiblities". Sounds a lot like what Douxie would do no? Lastly, the feature where his staff materializes at will simply shows how advanced and we'll explored Douxie is with his magic, showing that Duxie's staff- stowing is far better and convinient compared to Merlin and Morgana's staff portability. In addition, it's unlikely that he'd lose his staff in a battle because it comes back to him like a boomerang. And all the better, it's feature to levitate whilst Douxie performs a spell adds to its convenience given that he performs spells mostly with the use of mudras and hand gestures. Over all, I love how his staff adapts to suit its owner's needs and it just makes Douxie and his staffmanship very fun to analyze!
And with this comes a conclusion: with how each wizard wield their staffs, it shows how
(Merlin): when one keeps themselves stagnant to a belief or practice and doesn't acknowledge it's evolution, they will surely remain in the dark, no matter how enlightened they may be.
(Morgana): it is not wrong to let emotions seep out. However, it is a sign of weakness when one allows it to manipulate them.
(Douxie): balance is key to succeed. Use the bones of ancient knowledge to build one's structure of growth whilst embracing the newness of innovation and evolution to the path to maturity!
And that's about it.... I hope I got my point through BUT! keep in mind that these are just the thoughts of what I personally think of them and their relation to each of their respective staffs but I hope you enjoy it.🖤

Timeless Blue chapter four
Okay so here we are. I apologize I have no skills in writing dialogue for extended periods of time. Also hadn’t specified any sort of sleeping arrangements, Krel has his own room, and that’s where a good portion of this chapter takes place.
Krel and Douxie were not on good terms. Krel blamed Douxie for letting Merlin find out about the time travel mess, and Douxie didn’t like how Krel wasn’t helping to repair the timeline. Claire just wants to keep her boyfriend safe and get home and Steve’s newfound obsession with being a knight is honestly not helping the group in any way.
And due to pretty much everything, from Arthur’s distrust in Krel, to Douxie’s and his disagreements, to Claire’s annoyance every time they fought, everyone thought it better that Krel stayed in Camelot for as long as he wasn’t needed.
He almost snuck into the party, but after seeing Douxie knock out his past self and take his place, he knew it would be difficult and not worth it.
So while Douxie, Claire, and Steve were busy trying to fix the relationship between Morgana and Arthur, while also keeping Jim and as many trolls as possible alive, Krel was making sure Hisirdoux wasn’t going to lie in the street all day.
So Hisirdoux Casperan, woke up in the room where the extraterrestrial guardian of Arcadia was staying, to a blue, four armed prince experimenting with previously hidden materials. A book from the Alchemists in the village lay open on the desk in front of him.
“Woah.”
Keel jumped in his seat, turning around to the apprentice. “Great your awake.” Krel’s eyes were rolled and he turned around.
“What’d I do? I’ve only just met you!” Krel froze whatever he was doing, the soft glowing in his hands faded slightly as he stopped focusing on what was in his hands.
“Right. I’ve met your future self, not you.” He set down the materials, turning back at the apprentice, who was very confused. “You but with blue hair.”
“Yeah I know. You’re saying I meet you in the future?” Krel nods, turning back to his curiosity-driven work. “Wow... I must be really lucky. So what are you working on?” Hisirdoux got up to look over Krel’s shoulder.
Keel pushed him away with one arm, continuing his work with the others. “I’m trying to figure out how that gauntlet of yours-Douxie’s,” he looks back quickly to take not of whether or not Hisirdoux also has the gauntlet, “works. If I could figure out what material it was made of I might be able to mimic it.”
“Well, I’m no master wizard, but I don’t think you can make magic with metal.” Hisirdoux grinned and lit a small blue orb of power in his hand, pushing his way forwards so Krel could see it.
“Trust me. If you were a master wizard, you’d be more unbearable in the future.” Krel turned back around, fully this time, to face Hisirdoux. “Why don’t you go back to the wizard tower? The only reason I didn’t put you there myself if because the amount of knights still in the castle scare me. Also I don’t remember where it is.”
“Yeah, took me a little while to get the grounds memorized too.” Hisirdoux settled for sitting cross legged besides Krel, a birds eye view of the Akiridion’s failures and progress. “Magic isn’t something you can create you know.”
Krel pushed the comment aside, continuing to putter with thin metal strips and attempting to draw the magical glyphs only seen briefly before from memory. “Shut up or be helpful. I have broken the laws of physics before. I shall not-“
“If you tell me that story, I’ll show you the glyphs again, you’re writing them all wrong.” Douxie interrupted, holding out his gauntlet in front of Krel’s work.
Krel grabs his hand. “Deal.”
———
Douxie’s memories were changing, he didn’t notice at first, but he realized that he met Krel way before Arcadia. Their conversations entered his mind as they happened, even though he was nowhere near the Akiridion or his past self. What definitely wasn’t helping was that very vivid thought and image. A glowing character, in once unfamiliar alchemical dress, with a sarcastic tone of voice, and his immediate thought, calling the creature beautiful, then handsome, and worrying why he already didn’t like him.
Thankfully, he didn’t need to focus on the changing memories yet, he needed to protect Arthur and repair his and Morgana’s relationship. He had to save te future before he can worry about the weird feeling in his stomach after remembering the arguments the night and morning prior. For once, the constant checking of the time map wasn’t only due to nerves, and Merlin’s nagging was welcomed.
———
Krel and Hisirdoux spoke casually, explaining their culture to the other and complaining about the future Douxie. Hisirdoux wasn’t the best with words, and Krel slipped up his charismatic act because of how different the apprentice was to the other wizards he had met.
Krel’s study in magic didn’t do very well until Hisirdoux had an idea. There were magical materials in Merlin’s tower, and not many people would attempt to stop a wizard’s apprentice from entering the wizard’s tower. So they snuck in, nobody questioned it and nobody tried to stop them.
Immediately Krel tried examining everything. Crystals and books all seemed so interesting, especially if they did hold some magical secrets that he could unlock. However, nothing seems to react to anything he tries. There’s no glowing besides the king-in-waiting’s natural light and Hisirdoux’s spell, no sound beyond the natural, not even a smell that seemed mystical in some way.
It was nearing sunset, and the time the group returned, when the magic stuff was mostly put aside. Krel could consider Hisirdoux a friend, but still disagree with Douxie, right? Hisirdoux was awkward and at some points overly polite, but still try and help Krel figure this out despite believing it impossible. Hisirdoux even showed Krel the beginnings of a song he was working on.
Finally, Douxie, Claire, and Steve return, both Hiridoux and Krel knew to give them time.
Krel didn’t return to the room the team gathered in at all that night. He was given his own room, so it didn’t seem strange that he didn’t. Morgana was dead, Excalibur was gone, Douxie had failed his friends and the future. Keel was the least of his worries. Except the changes in memory weren’t. Even now, memories were coming to light and honestly it wasn’t an unwelcome distraction.
Douxie walking into Krel’s room after trying to speak with Merlin, the exact words didn’t last this long but the whole tone of the occurrence wasn’t as casual and happy as the ones from earlier. Krel was worried, spilling every negative thought about the time traveling incident to the past self of the cafe boy. Krel was crying, something neither Douxie had been previously aware he was capable of in his akiridion form.
Douxie lay alone as his past self listens to Krel’s worries, how much he already misses being home, how he wishes he could help, but also how much he regrets this. Keel starts ranting on what things he could have changed to prevent this all from happening, even going as far back to not opening the door for Douxie the other night.
Douxie starts thinking, what could he have done to prevent this. Maybe if he had fixed Morgana and Arthur’s sibling bond, maybe if he hadn’t opened the portal in time, maybe if he helped Archie find the staff sooner.
He falls asleep wondering if time stopped for Arcadia, or if Merlin and Archie are left to fight the Order in the future with everyone else they left behind, or if they thought that he was dead.

A Bond That Lasts Centuries (Chapter 4)
Plot:  Hisirdoux Casperan, apprentice to Merlin, had been sent to the mortal realm to protect the mortals and finish the tasks given to him.... unknown to him and his familiar, an old student of Morgana Le Fay had been sent there by his master....
Notes: Probably just the shortest of everything besides the prologue, i didn’t have much going on for this sorry..., IT STILL IS KINDA OKAY THOUGH, THE NEXT ONE WILL BE LONGER I RPOMISE, Douxilly, magic charms ooooohhhh, inspired by AATY by @alovesongshewrote , ALSO @blixeon CAUSE LITERALLY THEIR ANGST JUST PUSHED ME TO GET THIS OUT SO I CAN WRITE FLUFF SO.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Goodbyes and Life In The 1700s-1800s
It took a month or two but Douxie had finally recovered enough to head on his way, the two apprentices knew that they would have to go their separate ways eventually, They both had different things they needed to do.
Douxie had a long list of tasks he had to do and he was determined to finish them as soon as possible, he had no intention of really resting but of course, that was before he got tortured. Illy too, had a few small tasks but they were nothing compared to Douxie….
But ultimately it would have been easier for them to do those tasks on their own…
It was the crack of dawn when it happened, it was odd too, Douxie never liked waking up this early…. Illy supposed his determination was stronger than his disdain for mornings.
“Do you have everything? Food? Water? All the extra clothes and bandages and-” The girl’s worried rambling was stopped by the taller male putting his hands on her shoulders gently with a warm smile…. She loved that smile..
“Calm down, I have everything Illy… you just double checked my pack..”
“I...I just wanted to make sure…. I won’t be seeing you for…..Gods...I don’t even know for how long..”
He noticed the worried look on her face….. And.. a hint of sadness, it was going to be difficult to stay apart without knowing how long… Douxie thought to himself quietly before deciding on something that has been on his mind for weeks.
“I suppose we won’t know exactly….but...I remembered something that might help us, keep track of each other…..”
“Y...you do?”
The wizard nodded as he looked at Illy, his warm hazel eyes looking at her as he held one of her hands, palm side up, motioning her to do the same.
“Do you trust me with this, love?....I’ll only cast the charm if you allow me…”
Illy nodded, responding by taking his other hand and copying the way he held hers.
“Focus your magic….and close your eyes….” He instructed softly as the two of them closed their eyes, taking a deep breath as Douxie mumbled the incantation.
“Vinculum in cordibus nostris, quod tueri se ab iniuria”
A sky blue and turquoise magical glow appeared on their hands as an intricate circle of patterned runes appeared on the palms of their hands, they glowed slightly, a gradient of the two’s magical auras present in the designs on their skins.
The two opened their eyes and breathed out as they looked at their hands, until the taller of the two spoke up.
“These will help….they’ll glow if one of us is in danger and enchant a small ball of magic that we can follow to find each other….and well, we can also use it to find each other even if we aren’t in danger..” The apprentice explained as he nervously rubbed the back of his neck.
Illy smiled a little fondly at the mark on her hand, “Thank you, Douxie….t..though...you didn’t have to do this..”
As she said this, Archie had just woken up from his nap and had jumped his way onto his wizard’s shoulder, truthfully, he had been awake long enough to see the magical charm being casted.
“You can always find us when you need us, Illyria…. We are both here for you.” The familiar said with a slight smile as Douxie walked over and playfully started to ruffle her hair.
Illy blushed at the action as she looked up at the taller wizard as he said, “Besides, I owe you one….for saving me…”
The shorter of the two let out a small giggle, he didn’t owe her anything...at least in her eyes...still, some fun banter wouldn’t hurt.
“You’re damn right…. Just...take care of yourself Douxie…”
He chuckled and pulled her into a hug, “You too, Illy….”
The two hugged for a while before exchanging goodbyes as Douxie and Archie headed off again, Illy watched them go quietly as she soon let out a shaky sigh and tried not to tear up… she was going to miss them..
And truthfully, they both felt a bit hurt about leaving the other behind…
The both of them spent their time in Europe still, mostly in hiding as the act of hunting witches was still at large and it had made them both quite paranoid considering what the both of them had experienced earlier.
Still, it wasn’t all bad, the two apprentices were able to get a few of their tasks done and were also able to appreciate a few more things about the changes in the mortal realm at the time.
Douxie was able to grow his musical skills with the growing genres of music that has been appearing throughout the years, he quite enjoyed it as it was his passion besides magic...it was a nice change of pace. He also has started to read quite a bit, remembering how often Illy had read books during his recovery, poetry, literature, you name it…
Illy had kept her interest in reading poetry and literature, even improving a bit on her French but she had also taken up art, painting and sketching her days away as she was still afraid of working as a doctor during times like these. Medicine isn’t her passion but she still practiced it in secret so it could come in handy and would improve her healing magic.
All the while, the two stared at the magical rune charms on their hands, quietly hoping the other was safe and happy wherever they were…..
