Song of the Dark Crystal liveblog pt 5

Song of the Dark Crystal by J.M. Lee because it’s dinner time!

Last time in book: Kylan and Naia have joined forces with Rian to overthrow the Skeksis. Rian’s plan is to go to the All-Maudra with his claims and a vial of Mira goo. To kill time before dinner with Rian’s family, Kylan reads a bunch of rocks and Naia has a nap.

Chapter 5

Dinner is awkward for everyone. Then the plot comes knocking. Rian, Kylan, and Naia make a game plan.

Oops, this is a slightly bigger chapter that ruined my one week streak! But its also a really good chapter that I quite enjoyed!

Mythra leads Kylan and Naia into the kitchen and introduces them to mom Shoni and little brother Timtri.

Like most Stonewood Gelfling, she had long dark hair, and her soft wings were brown and red, with two large black eyespots accented by other dappleso f orange, gold, and tan.

Shoni pretty.

She stops preparing dinner to greet the guests.

Shoni set down her chopping knife and rounded the table to cup Naia’s face and then Kylan’s. Her hands smelled of spices and carrots. It was a warm gesture that Kylan had seen many mothers do, although he couldn’t remember much about his own mother, and certainly Maudra Mera would never have done something so kind to him.

OH MY GOD

Shoni pls adopt this boy right now!

That’s the relationship I ship, Shoni adopts Kylan.

Because, geez, the more Kylan and Mera’s relationship is expounded on, the sadder I feel.

“Hello, my sweets. I’m glad to finally meet you. Please, sit down. Ignore Rian if he’s cold to you. Rian! Fetch our guests something to drink, would you?”

“I can do it, Mother,” Mythra suggested, but Shoni waved her away.

“I want him to do it. It will be good for him.”

Wow. Savage. Rian is having a bad time in these opening chapters.

So, dinner is served on a stone table that seems to be growing out of the ground, leading Kylan to wonder whether the hut or table came first. Dinner is nuts, spiced peach-berries, and diced root.

I wonder if Stone-in-the-Wood doesn’t eat a lot of meat or whether this family doesn’t. Probably meat is a special occasion food.

Shoni asks about how far they’ve traveled which starts a conversation about Landstriders which makes Kylan feel like crap because he’s bad at all the Spriton things.

[Kylan] didn’t want to tell them about his brief foray into riding, the majority of which involved falling off, spooking the beasts, or a combination of the two. Galloping across the plains was one of the many Spriton traditions Kylan had seen much and done little of. There was that, and spear mastering, and bola throwing...

Geez. Kylan needs a hug. And some self-confidence. And another feel good day full of reading.

Actually, its an awkward dinner for other reasons too. Naia mentions that she’s thankful Kylan was good enough at riding to guide them away from the castle and Rian, grim boy that he is, mentions its good because if they didn’t have a Landstrider they would have been caught by the Skeksis.

“Rian!” Shoni scolded. “Now’s not the time. Can’t we enjoy one meal as a family without mentioning... that?”

“I don’t know, Mother. Can we even call ourselves a family when Father -.”

“Enough.”

Wow. I guess Skeksis are the politics of Thra and discussion of them will just ruin dinner. That and Ordon is hunting down Rian for the Skeksis. Imagine thats contributing.

Rian just bringing it up like that smacked me in the face though.

Shoni flicked her wings once, shrugging off the little argument

Wiiiiiiiing body language! I loves it!

Shoni switches the conversation to safe small talk and asks what the Drenchen do for fun, leading Naia to an enthusiastic explanation of various fun swamp activities.

Here’s one I like.

“When I was younger and argued with my sisters, my mother used to throw gems into the deeper parts of the swamp and make us find them before they sank into the mud. If we couldn’t find a gem, we had to do chores under Great Smerth, cleaning mites from the roots and such.”

That’s good swamp parenting.

Everyone is getting into the conversation about swamp activities. Kylan thinks that Naia sounds like she’s bragging, but in an endearing way. Even Rian seems to be listening to the conversation.

He jumps in to mention that Gurjin told him about the bola tourneys held and starts discussing comparative bolas with Naia. How the Drenchen bola uses shorter rope so it has more force and less chance to tangle.

And Naia gets into the topic of bolas and tries to bring Kylan in to talk about Spriton bolas.

Kylan shrank a little into his shoulders. He appreciated her attempt to include him, but the truth was, he didn’t know how shorter or longer rope changed a bola, or whether smaller or larger stones would be better in the field or forest. He didn’t know, and a part of him didn’t even care. He shrugged.

“I guess,” he said.

His contribution was so small and green, it almost killed the tiny flame of conversation entirely. Naia was ready with kindling words.

I really like that metaphor. But also, wow, this is like every awkward family dinner smooshed into one.

“Kylan is a song teller, and a dream etcher. A very good one! And even so, he can still throw a bola. He struck skekMal the Hunter square in the face.”

Again, Naia was only trying to help, but to Kylan, it sounded less like an endorsement and more as if she were trying to excuse him. As if being a song teller explained his athletic ineptitude, and his single victory in combat redeemed him.

I don’t know how many ways I can say wow what an awkward dinner. Poor Kylan.

Rian grunts approvingly of Kylan bonking the Hunter and adds that he’d love to do that himself one day.

Then the dinner gets EVEN MORE AWKWARD as Maudra Fara shows up. (Fugitive Rian of course hides while she’s visiting.)

An older Gelfing stood outside, dressed in indigos and greens, her dark burgundy-and-gold wings folded along the length of her back like a cloak. From the beads and ornaments woven into her dark hair, Kylan realized who she must be.

Maudra Fara is also pretty.

But she’s here on business. And for Kylan, specifically. She saw a Spriton on the rise and figured hey, a Spriton. Then she received a note about a Kylan.

She tells him “Before you wonder -- it is bad news.” Just ripping the band-aid off. That’s the Fara I know!

To my maudra sisters:

Take note. Lords skekLach and skekMal arrived early this morning. They sought one of mine, a runaway named Kylan. They say he is a traitor. When they did not find him, they took three others as collateral. If you know of Kylan’s whereabouts, send him to me, and I will take responsibility for him.

In Thra’s song,

aw crap Kylan is a fugitive now too.

(I wonder what skekMal’s title is when he’s not being a serial killer. He can’t go by Hunter because that’s his secret identity.)

Naia gets rightly offended at the Skeksis, pointing out that they’re not even hiding their cruelty and accuses them of taking hostages for snacks.

Maudra Fara tells Naia not to talk like that but out of fear instead of loyalty. When Naia keeps talking, Fara just. Pretends she’s not.

Fara is median cool. She’s clearly not willing to risk her village by sticking her neck out and probably wouldn’t back up Rian if he went to her, just as he feared. But instead of capturing Kylan, she gives him this headsup and a head start.

“If Shoni has welcomed you to her home, I won’t betray her hospitality tonight. But the Skeksi are looking for you, and my duty is to my clan. By the time the suns rise, you must be gone from here. Go to your maudra or do not. Go anywhere but here. I’ve got enough on my hands with Rian missing in the woods we share with the Skeksis. I can’t risk the safety of my people any more. Please understand.”

Kylan understands logically but still feels like a kick in the gut to so suddenly be kicked out. And its not explicitly stated but since he is half Stonewood, Kylan has basically been alienated from both of his homes. If he goes to Sami Thicket, Mera will turn him over to the Skeksis. And Fara has made it clear that she won’t risk her people for him.

Even if he hadn’t chosen to continue the quest earlier, he’d be stuck with it.

This is just a huge bummer of a dinner!

Kylan throws the note into the fire but since the paper was enchanted to resist the heat of dream-etching, it takes some time to burn.

H-hey! A neat trivia about dream-etching!

Naia gets mad on Kylan’s behalf who is too kicked in the guy and worried. But Rian comes out of hiding with a more different take. Or at least acceptance.

“She would have sent me away, too, if she’d known I was here. I can’t fault her for it. It’s her duty to do what’s best for the entire clan, not just one or two, or even three of us... The Skeksis will eventually come here, and they will do what it takes to scare the others into giving us up. The only thing that may save us is if no one knows our whereabouts and if we reach the All-Maudra as soon as possible. We should do as Maudra Fara says and leave. Tonight.”

Kylan is too focused on who the Skeksis took from Sami Thicket and whether attempting to rescue them would be a waste of time. And when he comes out of his musing he’s arrived at a different conclusion than Rian.

Not that they don’t need to leave but that heading to the All-Maudra isn’t a good enough plan. Because the Skeksis won’t stop preying on Gelfling or coming after Kylan and Rian and other Gelfling are going to get caught in the crossfire.

Kylan thinks that they should let all Gelfling know the truth so that they can take precautions to protect themselves. But he also gloomily thinks that maybe people will be unwilling to listen to the truth, like Maudra Fara.

Naia sides with Kylan.

“We will tell the All-Maudra,” Naia announced. “But Kylan’s right. The rest of the Gelfling need to know, too. If we focus all of our efforts on reaching the All-Maudra and waiting for her decision, many of our people could be taken by the Skeksis in the meantime. We have to find a way to spread the message faster, and sooner. Like dreamfasting.”

But even with Naia’s Super Cool Dreamfasting it would take too long. They’d have to touch hands with EVERY GELFLING.

Its just not practical and its not like there’s some kind of fire skype! The Gelfling are still in the courier stage of communications technology, drat it!

Shoni pops in and mentions that they could take the path to the High Hill making Rian groan that Aughra will be no help.

Blowing away Kylan that Mother Aughra, huge figure in Gelfling culture, is just casually an option here.

Aughra who is probably as old as the suns, called maudra Thra, lived through the only two conjunctions, and knew the world before Gelfling existed.

That Aughra. Is casually an option. And just casually lives nearby!

“Her home is near our wood, though few make the trek to see her. Even those who arrive often do not find the answers they are looking for... Some find nothing at all. But I think, given how empty our table is, even a crumb would look like hope.”

A rebellion resistance is built on hope!

I’m intrigued that she appears to not be napping forever in this version which makes one wonder why she hasn’t gotten involved because even at her movie grumpiest, she wasn’t callous. She saved Fizzgig the Fizzgig to no benefit to herself.

So what’s her deal in this continuity? And is she as grumpy?

“She’s nothing but a mad witch spouting nonsense and riddles,” Rian grumbled.

“You’ve met her?” Naia asked, as surprised as Kylan but more practical about how the news could serve them. “So you know the way! We can ask her if she knows how we can send out warning.”

“She won’t help!” Rian snapped, his voice escalating suddenly. When Kylan and the others fell quiet, he tried to settle down. Still, his fingers twitched and his thick brows drew tight. “She’s existed since the beginning of time, and the years have eroded her mind. She’s not interested in us. In the Gelfling. She won’t help and I’m not about to waste my time on her.”

That sounds like there’s history there that I’d love to know.

And sounds like if she’s not as grumpy as in the movies she’s at least as difficult.

Did Rian go to her for help after fleeing the castle to no gain? Or did he have a different reason for visiting?

Aughra wasn’t senile in the movie so I don’t think she’d be senile here so what’s her deeeeeal?

Anyway, Rian argues that showing the All-Maudra the vial of Mira goo is the best plan. And Naia argues against putting all their hope on one plan. So Rian says cool I’ll go alone like I wanted to. And Naia says hey buddy this is a team effort.

And Kylan finally points out that they should split up because they’re both basically saying that but arguing about it.

They should split their efforts and making it harder for the Skeksis to catch them.

“We need to work together, apart.”

Oh, I love that turn of phrase.

Kylan shrugged, in case they didn’t like the idea. They were both leaders, and he was a follower, but they weren’t looking at the big picture. To his surprise, though, the suggestion brought a calm to the room. Naia nodded at Kylan, a flash of respect in her eyes.

This is funny for a kind of meta reason. Rian and Naia are both protagonist but Kylan was a supporting character last book but protagonist of this one and he needs to speak up and protag.

Also, Rian and Naia are a bit in the way of being stubborn.

Rian agrees, insofar as he doesn’t think it will matter because his own plan is going to 100% succeed and it gets them out of his (blue-streaked) hair. He even offers to take them partway to High Hill.

Kylan then decides that they should go immediately.

Though he wasn’t eager to forsake the warmth of the stone hut for the cold wilderness of the wood, he felt it was the right thing to do. He had wanted to rest, but it seemed rest was a luxury for which they would find less and less opportunity. Knowing that Maudra Fara thought they were endangering all the Gelfling of Stone-in-the-Wood -- and that they were under orders to leave -- robbed the warm hut of much of its comfort.

tl ; dr .

jeyne is the youngest child and only daughter of the lord of lannisport and his wife. well - raised, courtesied, if admittedly spoiled. even as a little girl she plays pretend at being a king. her father teaches her what words like wartime and loyalty and ambition mean ; the sacrifices she must make for their family name, for gold and glory.

the ironborn raids come to the shores of the westerlands and both her brothers are sent to fight. the younger dies first ; there is no body to bury. her mother falls ill with something they can only call grief.

jeyne is married not long after, a rose in bloom at nineteen. when she first hears, she weeps and begs and rages. her father reminds her of her duty, of the joy it would bring her ailing mother. jeyne knows then what must be done, and plans.

when her first husband dies just shy of two years into their marriage, jeyne is irreproachable. he dies in winter, already ill ; goes to sleep coughing and doesn’t wake up. jeyne isn’t even in the castle when it happens, although unfounded rumors fly of witchery and murder. 

nine months pass, and she plays the part of mourning widow exceptionally well. it helps her mummer’s farce that news comes from the war : her remaining brother is dead now too, and her mother’s health is failing. without her brothers, she’s the ostensible heir to lannisport ; her father’s displeasure with this is made quite clear to her. he even suggests she isn’t his ; bearing too many of her mother’s features, not enough of his.

she is remarried quickly to lord lucas whent, without a fraction of the pomp and circumstance of her first wedding ; now a widow, with a reputation tarnished by unproven but incessant whispers, the newest match is rushed, necessary but insignificant. she doesn’t cry or beg this time, just goes coldly.

she hates him before she even meets him, hates the harrenhal the moment she sets eyes on it, hates the cold and the rain and the gloom of the castle and its people. spends all her considerable energies complaining and making life generally miserable for anyone around. 

word arrives that her mother has died ; her father remarries quickly in the hopes of a new male heir, and draws in his nephews and nieces. weighing his options. jeyne prays to the stranger to take them all. 

she resents the lot of them ; her father for using and betraying her, her brother and mothers for leaving her, the ironborn for killing her brothers, the starks for suing for peace and making their deaths worthless, her husband merely for existing. mostly, though, she resents herself, not clever enough to find a way out of the cages she’s been locked in.

plots.

enemies.  the very best plot type and you cannot convince me otherwise. gimme intimately plotted hate-your-guts-smile-to-your-face frenemies who overthink everything the other says and press each others buttons incessantly. gimme ‘our houses have fought each other and i blame your family for this or that’. gimme petty jealousies and annoyances and people too much like her for them to get along. gimme people who think she’s a traitorous, murdering bastard and a whore to boot, and aren’t even wrong to think so.

close friends.  i don’t imagine she has a lot of these ; those not deterred by her reputation often are dissuaded by her personality. still i love the idea of her having a few lords or ladies with whom she gets along quite well, the kind of people you only need to meet briefly to know you understand each other. can be from pretty much anywhere ; stuck at harrenhal i imagine jeyne to be an avid letter-writer. 

cousins.  i’m also considering sending in a wc for this, but gimme all the family plots ! could be paternal cousins, potential contenders for inheriting lannisport, & probably childhood companions. could also be maternal cousins ! i listed her mom as being a westerling but i’m more than happy to change that to another house for plot reasons, it doesn’t really matter ! her father could’ve also had sisters who married into other houses, there’s lots of options.

failed betrothals.  i can imagine her father made a lot of offers, both when she was first getting married and after she was widowed. and i can imagine a lot of reasons why someone might reject that ; she’s a lannister, she’s not .... great as a person and her reputation isn’t phenomenal either. after the death of her first husband, too, i can imagine her prospects were pretty slim. still, the lannisters are ambitious and would have sought out as good as match as they could have. 

family of her late husband.  yea, i specifically didn’t pick a house for her first husband to be from because i wanted to leave ‘em open for other applicants but also because i wanted to leave it open in case it’s a plot anyone would like to take up ! most of the story around that is also very vague so as to fit with pretty much any ideas/plots someone has going on. would be really fun, tho ; possibly they can even have been co-conspirators and this person inherited jeyne’s late husband’s title and lands ? or they absolutely hate jeyne and think she’s a murderer which .... she very well might be.

sister in law.  the widow of jeyne’s older brother, irwyn ; i hc that they had a daughter but tbh that’s just flavor text and i am open to changing pretty much anything i’ve got going on. i may send in a wc for this at some point too ? anyway, whether she stayed at lannisport or returned to her family home or anything, idk. seems like an unlikely connection to get picked up but it’s definitely out there if it happens to fit for someone.

brothers’ connections.  again kind of vague ? would probably work best for men from the northern kingdom who may have known them or trained with them, or else fought alongside them against the ironborn. could also be ladies with pretty much any kind of attachment to either of them idk ; jeyne doesn’t have a whole lot of family left so this is my way of trying to have connections thru her family anyway.

childhood friends.  idk how many characters from the westerlands there are around rn, but bring them to me pls. would love some childhood friends for jeyne ; whether they fell out of touch, or still write each other monthly letters. them being a ward at lannisport, or jeyne being a ward at theirs for a time is also a neat option ! 

allies.  not quite friends, but potential partners whose ambitions align with hers. she has connections to the wealth of lannisport and the might and strategic position of harrenhal ( though harrenhal is truly weaker than she’d ever admit ) and honestly would support just about anyone if it meant she got lannisport. she’s power hungry what can i say ? 

former flings / secret lovers.  firstly these can be of any gender as jeyne is ... peak evil bisexual tbh. yes i’m queercoding my villain and i think that’s very sexy of me. these are also just pretty vague ideas, and absolutely do not need to be particularly romantic ; they could have had a more lengthy affair or just hooked up at a wedding or a tourney or something. 

travellers.  both lannisport and harrenhal are pretty common places to pass through. on a sea journey on the western coast one is likely to stop by lannisport, and harrenhal stands practically at the center of westeros, which is a fun opportunity for jeyne & your muse to have met even if they live very far way or are unlikely to have met in other ways ! especially considering harrenhal’s size it’s a good stop over for travellers with a larger retinue. idk i just want an excuse to plot with everyone.

If you are in a situation where you can’t, that’s perfectly fine. However, thanks to this new Tumblr update I cannot trim asks because I don’t have xKit. So I ask for you to trim them for me, and if you can’t either then I’ll figure something out. Also with asks, I’m fine with you reblogging an ask to continue it. -REQUESTING MUSES. If you don’t request a specific character in an ask or a starter call, I won’t write it. I just don’t have the time to go to you and ask which character you want, nor try to guess what you were thinking when you sent something in or liked a starter call. first brush with fame - (TsuzuKazu)

It only takes Kazunari a few seconds to figure out how to set up the livestream, but as he double checks the settings, his heart skips a beat. This is so exciting! His fellow company members get to do what they love in front of their fans, and they’ll even get paid for it.

Sitting in on this first session is Kazunari himself, and Tsuzuru.

The reason being is that when Kazu was getting ready, Tsuzuru was the only one nearby who wasn’t busy (and can also be easily persuaded.)

Now, what to call this very first livestream...?

In a flash of inspiration, Kazunari types up a title.

“There we go!” Kazunari cheers and takes a seat, checking out the different features of the stream while Tsuzuru withers beside him.

“Why did you call it that?" He asks weakly, already having doubts about letting Kazunari be in charge of this project. "It doesn't sound very professional... don't we want people to take us seriously?"

"It's clickbait! Just put in a bunch of keywords that'll make people wanna watch. It works every time." Kazunari smirks, the picture of confidence. He feels completely in his element. "See? It's already working!"

Tsuzuru bolts upright in his chair. "W-wait, it's live right now?” He asks nervously, his voice distinctly higher than normal.

"Sure is," Kazu replied, waving to the camera. "Look, people are starting to join!"

Sure enough the viewer count steadily goes upward, first two, and then five, and now it's at twelve.

"Alright!" Kazunari claps his hands. "We should introduce ourselves. My name is Kazunari Miyoshi, find me on InstaBlam." He winks and makes double finger guns at the camera. "You might also know me from my roles in Mankai's Summer Troupe plays."

He beams, watching as a comment appears, full of hearts, and then another one. They're at twenty viewers now. He nudges Tsuzuru, encouraging him to speak.

"H-hello!" Tsuzuru bows his head, a blush starting to dust his cheeks at the idea of being under scrutiny. "My name is Tsuzuru Minagi. I'm a member of the Spring Troupe, and the Mankai Company's amateur playwright."

Kazunari slings an arm around his friend's shoulders, much to Tsuzuru's annoyance. "Amateur? Don't be modest. This guy's a pro." Kazunari tells the camera, poking Tsuzuru's cheek before being batted away.

Kazu laughs, checking the status of the stream before continuing.

Huh? He shrugs off the last comment and puts on a smile. Gotta focus on being entertaining.

"Okay, so now that we've made ourselves known. The rest is up to you guys! What do you want to know about us? Do you have any requests?"

Tsuzuru gives a start at this. "You mean you don't have anything planned?" He hisses, his cheeks really starting to flame now.

"That's the whole point of a livestream!" He grins in reply. "Anything can happen."

Kazunari turns his attention to the comments as more of them begin to roll in. Fifty viewers now.

He skims the first few question, skipping over a couple that seem a little weird.

"Do we like each other? Yeah, of course we do!" He says proudly. "Tsuzuroon and I go way back."

Tsuzuru makes a noise of protest. "Just because we've known each other a long time, that doesn't necessarily mean-"

But Kazunari interrupts him, pointing at the screen. "Oh my god, 'take off your shirt'?" he laughs and wiggles his eyebrows directly at the camera, giving it his most heart-stopping smoulder. "Such naughty fans... but I assure you, you would not be disappointed."

Tsuzuru roughly pulls Kazu back down into his seat. "What are you doing?! That's definitely not professional!"

"Fanservice, Tsuzuroon~" Kazunari laughs under his breath, thoroughly enjoying the opportunity to tease their fans. "Remember, we're supposed to be taking requests."

"Yeah, but that's a little too far, don't you think?" Tsuzuru pinches the bridge of his nose, already developing a headache from Kazu's antics.

"Come on, it's just a little teasing. No harm in that." Kazunari pouts. He grabs Tsuzuru by the shoulders, trying to convince him. "Don't be such a stick in the mud, bro. You don't want to end up all old and grumpy like Frooch, do you?"

This does grab Tsuzuru's attention. He looks like he wants to refute the point, but decides not to argue. "... No." He says with a sigh of resignation.

"That's the spirit! You just gotta lighten up a little," Kazunari ruffles his friend's hair and is quickly swatted away. He returns his attention to the screen.

Holy- 300 viewers?!

"When did that happen?" He mutters to himself, skimming through more comments.

Oh. The gears in Kazu's mind start turning. The flurry of activity and new viewers was sparked by... him giving Tsuzuru a pep talk?

More specifically that he held Tsuzuru for a moment.

Now, Kazunari may be dumb, but he isn't stupid. Even though it wasn't like that between them... maybe they could give a little more of that type of fanservice.

After all, he and Tsuzuru are close. They've shared a room before. They've seen each other in their underwear at various times during their high school and college years.

It wouldn't be weird, right?

His eyes catch on a comment.

Touch him? Well, that's easy enough. They didn't say he had to touch somewhere too personal.

A smile grows on Kazunari's face and he gives Tsuzuru a sidelong glance. "Follow my lead, Tsuzuroon?"

Tsuzuru, who is still trying to wrap his head around the fact that Kazunari might view him as a Sakyo-in-progress, brings himself out of his musings and finds these new words from Kazu to be just as confusing.

"What do you mean?"

"Fanservice," Kazunari replies, leaning closer to Tsuzuru.

Tsuzuru instinctively leans backward, gripping the arms of his chair. He doesn't trust the look in Kazu's eyes. "W-what do you mean?"

Kazunari makes a tutting noise. "They want to see how close we are, Tsuzuroon," he chuckles.

Before Tsuzuru can think, warm hands are cupping his face. He never thought of Kazunari as gentle, but that's exactly how the artist's fingers feel against his cheeks. Gentle, careful, practiced. As if Tsuzuru's face was just another of his painting projects, all fine brushstrokes and delicate linework.

Then the color must be in Tsuzuru himself, appearing on the canvas as Kazunari's thumbs brush against his cheekbones. Bursts of pink beneath his cheeks, racing red inside his chest, a curious purple filling the back of his mind, and many, many warm yellows, dancing through his body, reaching the tips of his fingers.

Kazunari's smile turns into a beaming one, and with a wink, he pulls away from Tsuzuru, severing the connection.

"See, that wasn't so bad," he whispers, then turns his attention back to the stream.

They gained another 500 viewers! And ten subscribers already? Wow...

While Kazunari is fixated on numbers, Tsuzuru is trying to remember every detail of what just happened, searing it into his memory in case it never happens again.

But why does he want to remember it that badly? Wasn't it embarrassing? Hundreds of people just saw Kazunari hold his face, and yet the shame he expects to feel just... isn't there.

It felt... nice. To be held. By him.

from a very young age, troy’s been active, boisterous and restless. he’s always been doing something and putting his all into it. whether that was imaginative play, puzzles, hands on crafts or the majority of the time he was dancing along to kids shows ( that weren’t on for very long ) or playing outside where he spent most of his time. he was a ball of energy, and still is. he also wanted people to watch him, so he could show off what he was doing to them or for them to play with them. he always wanted attention. ( that hasn’t changed ). that only intensified when his siblings came into the world, and even more so when their mother ‘fucked off’ as he likes to say.

in the current day people know troy sinclair as the guy that doesn’t give a shit about anything, that doesn’t let things worry him. what they don’t know is that after their mother left up until kindergarten, he had separation anxiety, specifically for his father and other close family members. he most definitely clung to dad in those years, fearing he was going to leave too but luckily, for everyone’s sake, he managed to grow out of this when he realised his siblings needed him.

this boy is the epitome of a spoiled, entitled, rich, fuckboy. he only wears designer clothes and dresses to impress, is always wearing expensive watches, drives cars you can only dream of owning, works out/goes for a run every day, parties hard and fucks harder and is renowned for breaking hearts ( he is a gemini, what do you expect? lmao ). he is a good guy he’s just... questionable.

troy thrives on fun and adventure and every weekend is a chance to travel, party or cause chaos. he would very much prefer to be off traveling, exploring, putting his curiosity to good use by discovering new things or partying than sitting at home being lazy. even before turning twenty-one, clubs are one of his playing fields/stomping grounds as well as frat parties and regular bars. 

that’s not to say he’s not a classy mofo either, mates. catch him sporting suit and tie at brunches and galas talking the talk and sipping on expensive wine with his kind. 

troy exudes confidence and luxury. although he may think that the world revolves around him at times and believes he deserves special treatment because of his family’s reputation and wealth, but he will literally talk to anyone. like, he can talk that’s for sure and is one of those people that comes across as being “friends” with everyone. he is sociable and civil ( in his own way ). you may be of lower class and he will still talk to you. 

it’s very hard for troy to stress out or to get upset. school work is getting hard? oh well. i just broke up with my partner? meh. dad’s got another partner? what else is new? you want a fight? bring it on. he is very much a believer in things are meant to happen for a reason and doesn’t tend to take life too seriously ( except for when it comes to prized possessions and even then he can go out and buy some more ). he does get offended though, let’s make that clear. with that being said though, when opportunity arises or he finds something that he wants he will take it and won’t stop until he gets what he wants.

when he is hurt, however, he will bottle it and not say a single word. for someone who’s brutally honest and isn’t shy to give his opinion, troy is very closed off and tends to keep people at a distance or lie to them about his feelings when he’s down.

family is everything to troy! he loves them unconditionally ( even if they annoy the fuck out of him sometimes ) and they are the only people he would lay down his life for. everyone else? nah. he isn’t overly protective over his siblings because he knows they can take of themselves, but will step in when need be like the good big bro he is.

troy doesn’t like to be single, can’t be single. not really anyway. there are underlying commitment or abandonment issues when it comes to relationships that are more than likely the root of the problem. along with the fact mama left and papa has had countless partners over the years.

troy doesn’t need to be the centre of attention as he already knows he’s the best, but he expects attention. he works hard on his physique and appearance, putting his self-worth on the constant attention he receives. negative attention isn’t ideal, though he knows that only the best have their haters. being in a relationship is a validation to him that he is worth it, that his looks and who he is is worthy. it’s not healthy, and i think he knows it.

being single for too long gives him doubt, sends him down a downhill spiral of harsh criticism and he feels as though he is nothing without someone, that someone not wanting him is the end of the world in a dramatic sense. 

not only that, but troy actually enjoys the beginning of relationships. the charming smiles, flirting, the chase, going on those first few dates and being showered in compliments ( and giving them, ofc ). he likes getting to know people, likes the process of being strangers to being together, and he enjoys sleeping with new people also. the first touches, the way he can make someone’s heart race and how they can do the same to him. it’s enticing, addicting like drugs. all the way to the honeymoon phase.

he knows it isn’t love, not matter what his lover at the time says. he has never said it, and probably never will because he doesn’t believe in romantic love ( we’ll see ). troy is deep down in love with the idea of love, and it’s sad.

the boy’s relationships tend to last a couple of months at the very most. when that honeymoon phase starts to wear off, when he’s had the sex he needs and feels as though that partner is not doing anything for him anymore… he’s out. any work that needs to be put into a relationship to make it work or when a solid, deep and emotional connection is meant to start forming, he’s done. with that being said, he has never cheated on his spouse! ever! he always leaves first before hoping in the sack with someone else!

-SPOILERS. I will tag spoilers for everything that’s not in the anime. For example, if a post contains something in the BSD fandom that’s not in the anime, I will tag it. I doubt I will tag threads for spoilers, and if there’s a character that’s manga only I won’t tag it (ESPECIALLY if I write that character, like Daki.)

-REQUESTING MUSES. If you don’t request a specific character in an ask or a starter call, I won’t write it. I just don’t have the time to go to you and ask which character you want, nor try to guess what you were thinking when you sent something in or liked a starter call. So I just won’t respond to whatever it is. This is the case when requesting one of my muses or picking one of your muses, if you’re a multi like me. Sorry..!!

Summary: carol really walked into high school and inspired you with her courage without batting an eye (and somehow also managed to steal your heart)

Your town was pretty small so whenever anything remotely interesting happened, everybody knew within a couple of days but somehow you didn’t hear about the new girl who moved into town over the weekend until Monday. Your friend, Tiffany, had been eating lunch with you when the new girl walked into the cafeteria, her lush blonde hair spilling over her shoulders. She wore black ankle boots and a red t-shirt.

“Who’s that?” You asked as you sat down at your usual lunch table with Tiffany at your side, glancing at the new girl who looked a little confused. Tiffany’s eyes lit up as you mentioned the girl, clearly excited to spill the tea about her.

“Her name’s Carol Danvers. She just moved here this weekend. She’s different from all of us,” Tiffany mused, watching Carol hold her lunch tray as she walked between lunch tables, casually glancing at people. She didn’t seem to notice all the curious glances of the students around her and if she did, it didn’t bother her at all. Tiffany was right: Carol was different from anybody you had ever known. She had an aura of confidence that teenagers displayed and seemed to act like she knew what was going on despite being the new kid and she was walking towards your table.

“Oh no,” You mumbled as you watched Jason, the school bully who loved scaring new kids and scaring people in general, walk over to Carol, sizing her up. Carol stopped in her tracks when she saw Jason but her neutral expression didn’t falter.

“Who do you think you are, walking around this place like you own it?” Jason yelled loudly, his spit flying everywhere. Jason never controlled his volume, even during class. “You better learn your place, little lady?”

“Are you picking on me because I’m a girl or are you picking on me because I’m the new kid? Either way, you must be really insecure about yourself to feel obliged to pick on others to feel powerful,” Carol breezily commented, trying to move past Jason. Jason stood still, not allowing her to walk past him and glared daggers at her as other kids giggled at her comment.

“You think you’re so funny and cool, huh? Well, I’m about to teach you how to shut that dumb mouth of yours and welcome you to reality,” Jason snarled, his hands balling into clenched fists as he took a step closer to Carol, his face dangerously close to hers. Everybody began to avert their eyes from the scene, knowing that Jason was about to get violent again.

“What are you going to do to shut me up? Kiss me? Sorry to disappoint you but I’m not interested into guys,” Carol answered, raising an eyebrow as if to challenge Jason to answer her questions. Jason’s face turned red with rage and embarrassment and he took a swing at her head. Carol skillfully ducked, sliding under his large arm and walking on as if nothing was wrong. Jason stumbled when his fist didn’t meet her face and he turned around, pursuing Carol. You opened your mouth to warn her of Jason but Carol didn’t miss a beat as she grabbed your tin lunch box and swung it around to hit him in the side of his face.

Students yelped loudly as Jason fell backwards on his behind. A couple of his friends came by to help him up and he stumbled away, casting one last defeated look towards Carol. A couple students cheered for Carol’s bravery and Carol smiled at them. She sat down next to you, handing you back your lunch box as she apologized, “Sorry for using your lunch box. Cool design by the way. I love Star Wars!”

“I do too! I mean, you probably could tell by my lunch box,” The corners of Carol’s beautiful eyes crinkled as she smiled affectionately. You two began chatting away about Star Wars as your friends and Tiffany watched you two talk it up, a knowing smile on their faces. You two quickly became best friends after that whole debacle.

As a new girl, Carol still didn’t know her way around town so you took up the responsibility to show her around. Once she figured her way around the tiny town, you two often went biking after school and visited the family-run ice cream shop on summer days. Sometimes you two would study at the diner and mess around with the jukebox and you two loved going thrift shopping during the weekends.

Knowing Carol liked girls made you feel more comfortable about falling for her. You never admitted your crush on her but all your friends could tell you were extremely smitten by the way you always examined her facial features during class instead of studying. And soon, other people did too.

One day, you were walking down the school halls, minding your own business when out of nowhere, Jason grabbed you by your hoodie and slammed you against a locker. He stuck his face disgustingly close to yours and growled, “You don’t have your girlfriend to defend you now, huh? She’s such a gross piece of crap. All women are. Especially you queers”

“”Whoa, being homophobic and misogynist at the same time? I don’t really appreciate that, Jason,” Carol crossed her arms and Jason let go of you, something dark flickering in his eyes as he changed his target.

“Well, well, if it isn’t the little lady herself?” Jason growled menacingly, standing up straighter and puffing his chest out. Carol rolled her eyes and she walked up next to you, holding your hand comforting. She must’ve felt your nerves spark to life because she began guiding you away from Jason but Jason barked, “You queers really are scared of me?”

“No, I’m not scared of you, Jason. Why would I be? You’re all muscles and no brain. I can’t believe you believe you’re better than everybody and more specifically, how you think that men are better than women. I mean, people are all created equally and why should people be differently based on their gender. I have no reason to be afraid of you if you just mindlessly follow society’s view like an unintelligent sheep. Welcome to reality, buddy. You’re tough guy act isn’t fooling as many people as you think,” Carol chewed Jason out and her words seemed to stab him like a bunch of daggers. He flinched at her remarks but he decided that he was just going to embarrass himself more if he was going to continue to threaten you and Carol.

Carol and you walked away, hand in hand, and she didn’t really acknowledge your interlocked fingers but you knew what she meant. The day after that confrontation, you and Carol kissed for the first time and vandalized Jason’s locker by spray painting it with the colors of the gay pride flag. Everybody knew who did it but nobody called you two out. Carol managed to rise from the new girl to the woman who was going to change reality and make the world the better place and you couldn’t be luckier to have her in your life.

born the middle child of five ( two sisters + two brothers, ) bohee’s family was full of talented people. music constantly echoed throughout the park house, while paints and pencils were scattered everywhere. from a young age, bohee knew her siblings were special, but their excellence only emphasized her . . . well, lack thereof.

her eldest sister was a beautiful painter, while her eldest brother had written three plays before the age of nineteen. the younger twins were an incredible violinist and a genius, respectively. bohee had no clue where she fit in; growing up in the park house of wonders was incredibly lonely when you’re the only one who’s not wonderful.

bohee’s jealous nature wouldn’t allow her to sit idly by and watch her siblings get all of the spotlight. she wasn’t going to mope around and wait for her calling to call out to her; she was going to find it.

and it was rough. art was never her forte. she couldn’t carry a tune and it was often hard for her to perfect stick figures. it seemed like she would never find her talent. maybe her parents lied, maybe some people simply aren’t good at anything. bohee was so ready to throw in the towel and accept her inadequate fate. 

. . . that was until she stepped foot on the tennis court. finding tennis was simply a fluke. a friend at the time wanted to join the team but couldn’t muster up the courage to go by herself. bohee didn’t really care much, so she offered to tag along but the moment the coach put a racket in her hands, everything clicked into place.

( long story short ) she’s a semi-professional tennis player who tends to stop at the deja brew before ( and, don’t tell her coach or her trainer ) or after practice. the fact that she could probably down a gallon of iced chai isn’t something that she should be proud of, but it’s not her fault the baristas are so dang good at their job.

bohee might look cute on the outside, but if you catch her on the right day, she’s quite the contender. yes, she likes to laugh and joke around, but certain things aren’t laughing matters. for bohee, tennis is one of them.

another thing that’s not a laughing matter is music. unfortunately for her ( and everyone around her ) she never grew out of that thirteen-year-old phase where she thought that liking old music was a personality trait. half of her paychecks go to the local record shop, where everyone knows her by name.

can and often does put the ‘b’ in bitchy. she’s a taurus, so you KNOW she’s stubborn. she’s also prone to tunnel vision, so to anyone who gets in the way of what she wants ( and she’s not picky; it can be anything like a win at a match to a specific cart at the grocery store ) i have this to say: good luck. i’m sorry, but good luck.

bohee is loyal to a fault. she’s quite standoffish at first, but when she decides that someone is up to her ( well, not so ) high standards, she would go to the end of the world and back again for them.

it’s definitely more of a romantic experience for her than anything else, and she wants a close connection with someone before she sleeps with them. she’s very vocal and enthusiastic, and after she gets over her initial shyness ( which is still there to begin with no matter how eager she is ! ) she’s not afraid to be detailed and exact about what she wants & enjoys. wendy’s also willing to explore different things, but tends to be vanilla, as well as generally more submissive.

Guess, who starts xir weekend in pain! 8D I suddenly had a pulsating pain right underneath my rib cage at work, that got progressively worse during the course of the day and now my entire left side, all the way to the spine and the shoulder is hella sore. Probably managed to pinch a nerve or something. I already took a strong painkiller, but those things make me whoozy and I’ve spent the last two and a half hours repeatedly dozing off. SO I will likely slink off to bed for real soon.

Margot Fox was raised in Chicago, Illinois ( Oak Park specifically ) by a ( for the most part ) very loving family. She was the middle of three children, a ( only slightly ) younger brother and an older sister. Her parents are upper-middle class, hardworking people, who love their children. Still, the Fox’s were a “fighting” family, they were a “feelings” family. They talked things out, they yelled, they were always discouraged to keep anything inside or let it fester.

Margot came out when she was fifteen, the whole family had known and been waiting for years. It wasn’t a big deal.

She was always an anxious kid, but also very outgoing. She picked up music from a super young age, and was in jazz band and orchestra in high school. She had friends, made pretty good grades. It was normal, a good experience for the most part. 

After graduation she moved out, and into downtown Chicago where she attended college on a scholarship for music. She started playing her stuff in bars, released an EP, she was getting places. 

It started off casual, in her sophomore year, a few parties. Then a party every single weekend. Two parties every weekend. By mid-junior year she was drinking before classes. Lines of coke in bathrooms, mdma popped like candy. She started failing classes, but that didn’t stop her. It was rare to encounter Margot sober, party or not.

It was impossible to find her at a gig without something in her system. She was starting to make a name for herself, but not in the way she wanted.

It was really a blessing that she failed out of school. She’s lucky that it was her rock bottom, and not something worse. Her parents intervened, sending to the best rehabilitation center they could afford. 

And she did it, it took a couple years, but she got clean. And she wrote some incredible music in the meantime. 

Her second album came out and within a few months, it was a smash success. Her life hasn’t been the same since.

As mentioned, Margot is a lesbian & identifies as so. In my application I listed her as homoflexible is because sexuality is a ~spectrum~ and I can see the potential of Margot having a sexual relationship with a man. He would have to be a great friend of her’s, and it would be casual and probably just a drunken fling. She’s super gay and would never be in a relationship with a ( identifying ) man. 

She’s out to her fans & the world. Her songs feature female pronouns.

Her music is basically Reputation Era with more St. Vincent vibes. She considers herself a guitarist before a singer. She’s also not nearly as famous as Taylor, she’s more like St. Vincent level famous. She feels very confident in the rockstar persona.

She struggles with her reputation ( ...ok lack of a better word, I swear ) because of her drug use and rehabilitation. She gets a lot of shit for it, but is learning to embrace it as much as possible. 

Not very girly, but not super butch either. Kinda soft butch. Mostly wears leather jackets and black jeans, but gets sparkly for the stage. She’s not opposed to dresses. 

Kinda a player, tbh. Had her heart broken and can’t really get over it. She’s pretty awful at commitment.
