jaykyle au where they're theatre kids in the same school but they're not the actors jason's the scriptwriter/director and kyle is the prop manager (i don't know the official terms sorry) and they'd probably do an amazing job on the backstage setting if they could stop arguing for 5 whole seconds about their artistic visions and ideas and how "this would obviously work better this way"

telling you kids. look at obscure art and take inspiration from there. Look at things that aren’t drawings and work them into your technique. Look at the way light plays over the surface of the face, really look at it, and then don’t look for instructions on how to capture it. Stop drawing from whatever is most popular and fed to you from algorithms. Get weird. Find your voice!!! See all that you love in your work and know that it is yours!!!!

I'm too tired to explain myself 😂. Briefly put, the Mark is a fusion between Death's and Dream's sigils (I tried more komplex ideas but eventually circle back to the simplest one). And I think it fits that Hob would gain a mark based on the Ankh symbol after gaining immortality 😆.

Tangentially related to some of the discussion i posted earlier but quiet literally the first RW Art Month i participated I did it completely on whim like, one day before it started. And I mostly did it because I hadn't drawn a ton of rain world and wanted to draw more. Fandom presence was a lot smaller than and I was one of a handful of artists who did the entire thing. Fast forward and I still do Art Month and I've gotten to work with VC directly. But it was quite literally something I decided to do completely on whim that set the ball rolling, and for something a lil more niche and certainly with a lot more dev/fandom art involvement than most. It's really random how and why you might get noticed more than usual, especially with the "toss it into the search and hope it pays out' mechanism of Socmed

#t.extpost #and im hardly the fanciest art month artist out there so it wasnt even about being a jaw droppingly talented artist or whatever #and while artmonth for rw is still given a huge focus its also a much much bigger thing now with a much bigger number of participants #which is cool! its awesome how many people i saw do most if not all of last art month! and VC is really good about not just repping the #most popular artists or fanciest pieces #but theres So Much More there now and while its great for finding artists its also impossible to get Everyone in there you know?#Although they absolutely try #And this is like. one of the most fanartist involved devs ive ever seen in terms of both celebrating the art their fans make and actively #bringing those fans in to contribute #and its /still/ hard to get going just because thats how Posting is #i used to be more of a hk artist which is both a huge fandom and riddled with stunning artists but theres So Many #and niche fandoms are niche so youre more likely to connect with people but less likely to see a ton of engagement regularly -#probably best example i have for that was being briefly fixated on patapon.#Its just messy to try and find the hack that sets you up #just have fun and jump around and make what you like #get a sense of feeling for your style and some people will stick around for that vs. strictly the subject matter #others will look up the thing you switched too and some wont engage #you cant really control it #so have fun and draw that thing you randomly thought about at 2 am that doesnt match your blog #draw for that forgotten rpg you liked when you were 15 or draw for the 70 player max steam game you played for this week #you never really know what will happen #but its not really worth worrying about what will happen either

i did yes :) i think the most important thing i learned is to experiment and to put at least a little bit of meaning behind every element of your art piece — that’s why i got so into animal motifs and flower language, i think they’re such a lovely way to present stuff! but honestly my course was very lenient, it was mostly about you doing you and tutors giving you advice where necessary!

#vic.txt #vic answers #i LOVED uni because i got to spend time amongst other creatives #it was so amazing to sit in the studio drink your monster ultra and work on your art #i genuinely miss it #i ofc don’t miss the stress but the experience itself was incredible #i wish i found a studio like this — just a bunch of people doing art supporting each other and making silly jokes #but alas. i’m very very socially anxious so it’s hard for me to go places on my own and meet people hahah #but yeah i loved uni i had great coursemates and my tutors were some of the most talented encouraging people ever #there was this one tutor i used to argue with a lot but it was always in a good faith and it build some confidence in me when it came to #explaining my work #it encouraged me to accept criticism but also stand by my own

so does that mean. Raz can form or Manipulate shapes of water. Kinda like how Maligula can with water serpents. I imagine Raz has own favourite animal for that? And water his strongest power or still struggle with it? anyway amazing work as always.

it's his strongest power, but he doesn't specialise in it super heavily. so he's not as skilled in it as, say, Lili is with her herbaphony. he's definitely not as good as his great aunt, but Lucrecia was, like, incredibly talented. from the feats we see her accomplish (making hundred-foot waves and tornadoes of water, crossing oceans, drawing water from the moisture in the air), I'd say she's quite possibly one of, if not the, strongest psychic in the canon.

could Raz be as good as her one day? maybe! he has the potential, but it'd take a lifetime of practice. and i think generally he prefers spending his time working on all his powers, rather than strongly specialising in just one or two. he's not as good at HK as he could be if he really focused on it, but in exchange he's also pretty good with a lot of his other powers. jack of all trades, master of none, y'know?

likely a few more days without art or much activity coming bc while i got used to juggling uni+job+job, i now have shit ton of documentation to do after unis teachinf practise shit fuck fuck penis fuck period and boy is it not fun.

#i only got to make some progress on a wip by staying up after midnight #but im not gonna keep doing that bc. i already wake up looking like a zombie #not good. i need to talkto people of all ages (6 days a week) and smile at them and pretend im a fairy gottmother #ok ok let me complain here please. OVER 50 MICROSOFT WORD DOCUMENTS TOTAL TO BE WRITTEN AND PRINTED OUT #AND I HAVE LIKE A WEEK AND +- SOME DAYS. ME AN AVERAGE very smart and talented and hot HUMAN CAT ALL ALONE #i wouldve had 2 months if my assigned teacher did not fuCK UP #so yeah please dont expect much from me for now #i tried doodling a pip just now but idk some exhaustion or art block fuckery happened it came out shit #and i got so angry i rage quit

To be clear about the Hobie age situation:

I head-canon him as 18-20. I have reasons for why I think that if people are interested. I do not care what you head-canon/see him as. I will never force my own head-canons on another person, nor will I expect someone else to agree with them. The people getting so up in arms about the whole situation ON BOTH SIDES are being WEIRD.

This does mean I do not ship him with Pavitr( chaipunk / punkchai ), Gwen( ghostpunk / HobieGwen ), and Miles( punkflower / HobieMiles ) because two of those characters have in movie confirmed ages of 15 and 16, and then I head-canon Pav to be the same age as Gwen. The age difference is too weird and gross for me because of the way I SEE THEM. That does not mean those ships are proshipping or whatever it’s called. It would be proshipping if you HC Hobie as 20 and he’s dating a 15 year old, but that is CLEARLY not what’s happening here. More power to the people who see Hobie as younger and ship him with the above ships and make amazing works for it! But personally, I love him in the older brother role!

With that said, and I wanna be exponentially clear on this part: it isn’t a micro-aggression to think he’s 19/20, it isn’t deaging/infantilizing to thinks he’s 16/17, and it isn’t homophobic to not ship a ship because you view the character as a different age, making the ship weird for you. What is a micro-aggression or straight up racist are the people(ngl haven’t seen A LOT of this but I’ve still SEEN it) who think Hobie is 26/30+. If that is your view on him maybe examine why you thought that originally and your own biases towards young black men and then reevaluate. What is homophobic, and potentially also racist, is not holding the above talked about ships to the same standards, again not something I’ve really seen but people talk about it like it happens so I’m going to assume it does.

Bottom line: Unless they specifically say(or give just an undeniable hint at it) in the next movie, Hobie’s age should be and is up to interpretation. There is no reason to send hate because of a 5 year variability in a character’s age.

went back to the sketchbooks around when i was going through yyh for the first time in 2019 and found a pile of near-yearly sticky note updates about my relationship with the series next to my first yyh doodles, a page full of kuwabaras. thought it'd be fun to share

+ more thoughts and old yyh art below

(it's crazy i didn't find any kurama-centric pages for months bc i think he's the one i doodled in the margins of class notes and stuff the most. his hair's pwetty and he gives me the least trouble outta any of the main 4)

something i noticed while skimming the two sketchbooks i took these from was how mean i was to myself at the time about my art. i guess it hit me more because i don't really spend hours going through my old sketchbooks over and over to track my progress and growth like i used to quite often. i guess it was only a little after when my self esteem was lowest (8th grade, tale as old as time), but... idk. i knew back then that i'd grown a lot in the few years since i started drawing more seriously (that's why i looked through my art so much), but like... i guess that never translated into being nice to myself about it. i ended up going back through about ten more sketchbooks to find more yyh art, and in the coming years i'm glad to say that negativity in the margins went away. hell yeah

but even so, my love for yyh was a constant and effusive thing, as it is now. it's probably the oldest of my current media interests. i watched myself get into rgg and develop my ocs and watched others fade in and out, watched my style loop back on itself and go all over the place, passed by pages of writing about crushes and album releases and gender discoveries and my grandparents dying, all surrounded by little drawings of the characters i love. including kuwabara in a maid dress right next to my dead grandma grief rambling that one time (no i'm not kidding. my grandma died in like late 2020 and the page where i poured my heart out after finding out she was gone just trying to process everything had one with catboy maid dress kuwabara directly opposite it, who i'd drawn like the evening before she died in her sleep. he killed my grandma from like 100 miles away he was that powerful. that wasn't even the last time i drew him like that and i don't even care about catboys or maid dresses much. i think it was just a bigger meme and he was the guy i most associated with cats. i put that man in a situation and he fucking got her because the book couldn't contain him. some victor frankenstein shit. anyway)

i took about 150 pictures, most with multiple sketches. i decided not to add any more though bc 1) i posted some of them on old accounts but i don't remember which ones, and tbh i value my anonymity a little too much 2) All Of The Pictures Turned Out Bad in ways i don't feel like getting into but just trust me it's like 6 layers of fucked up illegible image bullshit 3) i found it hard to narrow it down to things i felt were indicative of the development or interesting or anything like that. idk. i figured it was an interesting exercise for me and it probably wouldn't really mean anything to anyone else. and that's ok :) it was nice anyway. i mostly mention it to be like Oh My God i've drawn these guys a lot and i STILL don't know what i'm doing... :| it's fun

however i did transcribe the notes i left:

7/9/19: yo it's been less than a week & i'm on ep. 80 wtf i love this show

8/14/20: 1/2way thru my 3rd watch (first dub, first [with older sibling]) & honestly still love it & kuwabara being the first one i drew makes me happy

7/28/21: i'm watching it w/ [younger sibling] now! 4th(ish) watch, 2nd time through the dub, which is so much better than the sub really elevates the text. we're at the semifinals of the DT, which means this is technically my 5th time through yyh up until that point but eh semantics anyway i still love & obsess over yyh! <3

1/14/24 (present day): hey, i'm rewatching yyh for the.. idk 5th or 6th time. still love it & never stopped. now i'm writing fic & drawing & posting about it. i have friends i talk to about it. [both siblings] have seen it. so much has changed, and so little, but it made me sad seeing how much i insulted my own art. i love you 2019 me. god knows you needed it
