PART 2 | PART 3 | PART 4 | FINALE
Houses burned to the ground as the streets of Encanto are set on fire. Screams are heard as the panic in town is growing out of control while men on horses race through the streets chasing and intimidating people away. The villagers start running, belongings in hand- holding each other close. Alma looks behind her-terrified. Memories of her past race through her head yet there is no time to reminisce because they had to leave. Right now.
“Everyone! Stay close!” Mirabel holds Alma’s waist, supporting the elderly woman as they start to cross the river. The same river where they were given their miracle. In her hand, Mirabel holds the candle-helping them light their way through. Luisa scans the crowd to make sure everyone is doing fine. She catches sight of her primo Camilo struggling to hold all his belongings together and rushes over.
“Here let me help, I’ll handle this. Keep your sons safe Camilo.” Luisa easily hoists all his bags up on her shoulder, immediately moving away to help another couple. Camilo thanks her and immediately takes his two sons in his arms, hushing their cries.
“Don’t cry, Fernando..it’s ok. Mi vida, stay close!” Camilo shouts, turning his head to make sure his wife was still following them. Y/N nods, gripping the back of his ruana when the river currents got stronger. She turns her head to see their town burning in the distance, the once lively village now looking like hell on earth. The woman looks around her and sees kids crying, couples holding each other close, and then she hears screaming. So much screaming.
“¡Ayúdeme! I’m injured!” Y/N whips her head behind her, she squints her eyes and catches sight of a teenager. The poor girl was desperately trying to catch up with the crowd but her sprained foot was making it hard for her cross the river. She immediately leaves Camilo’s side, ignoring his shouts as she runs towards the teenager.
“Amor! Luisa will help her!”
”Mami! Come back!”
“Luisa is busy! Someone needs to help!” She shouts as she hoists the teen in her arms. Camilo looks at his wife, panicking, he wanted to run after her but his sons were still in his arms. The shapeshifter nearly falls over when a strong wave passed through, crying erupted from Fernando and Elias again.
Camilo holds them close and in a split-second, he makes a decision. Camilo shapeshifts so his legs are longer so he could easily cross the river. ‘Keep your sons safe Camilo.’ Luisa’s words echo in his mind as he pushes through and finally reaches the other side, still holding his sons in his arms.
“Papa!” Elias cried, clutching his father’s shirt tightly. Camilo pressed kisses on both his son’s faces, promising that soon enough they’d be safe. As chaos swirls around them, Camilo turns back to see Y/N having difficulty crossing the river. Luisa approaches the woman and Y/N quickly hands the teen over to her.
"THEY'RE HERE!"
Y/N nearly falls over when she hears a sudden bang, an excruciating burning pain shooting through her abdomen. She looks back to where the horsemen are coming from. The soldiers are slowly getting closer and closer. Panicking, she starts to push against the river currents -adrenaline pumping through her veins. Pepa surveys the crowd and screams for her daughter-in-law, a hurricane starting to form around her.
“Y/N! Hold on to those rocks! I’ll come get you, amor!” Camilo passes his sons over to his brother Antonio. He was about to run into the river to help his wife but Felix holds him back.
“Hijo! No! The currents are too strong!” Camilo doesn’t listen and screams, struggling in Felix’s grasp. He grows more and more desperate as the horsemen grew closer. Y/N looks into Camilo’s eyes, fear growing as his emotions started to build up.
Once she was close enough, she desperately leaps up. Her fingers dug into the sand as she tried to heave herself up. Felix finally lets go of Camilo, both of them running over to help. Camilo easily pulls her up to the ground, he wasted no time and immediately held her close. He kisses her all over her face, tears of relief falling down his cheeks- however, their reunion is cut short as the people start racing away again.
The horsemen start to cross the river but are suddenly blown away by strong winds, Camilo looks towards his mother-Pepa had an angry expression on her face as she screamed at the soldiers. From the corner of his eyes, Camilo sees Mariano cover Dolores’ ears as thunder and lightning start to strike the skies. The men try to get back on their horses but Isabella stops them and holds them back with thick vines, rendering them immobile.
“Everyone! Let’s go! Just keep moving!” Mirabel shouts, chaos breaks out again as people scramble to follow her. Camilo holds Y/N by the waist while they both run together. The shapeshifter glanced at Antonio to make sure his sons were okay.
Antonio had his nephews tightly clasped in his grasp, his jacket thrown over them so they wouldn’t get wet from the rain. Camilo breathes a sigh of relief as he follows the crowd, the burning village slowly fading away from his sight. ‘Damn the village, as long as his family was fine then things would be alright.’
--
“Let’s set camp here everyone!” The crowd reached a field, Isabella quickly created large trees around the area to help keep them hidden. Although they were already far away from the village, it didn’t hurt to be safe. Camilo promptly left his wife so he could get their bags from Luisa.
Y/N looked around her again, she couldn't hear screaming anymore but people still looked shaken up. Antonio caught her gaze, smiling, he started to walk towards her. The teen was about to hand his nephews over to her but froze when he noticed something. He quickly shielded Fernando and Elias’s gaze away as hot blood started pouring out of her mouth.
“C-CAMILO!” Antonio shouted for his brother when she suddenly stumbled to the ground. People whipped their heads around, gasping at the horrifying scene.
Pepa pushed through the crowds and let out a blood-curdling scream. She rushed over, holding the girl in her arms- panicking when she felt blood seep onto her hands. She turned Y/N over, growing pale at the growing dark red bloom on her stomach.
“JULIETTA! JULIETTA COME QUICK!” Pepa wails, the skies rumbling and getting darker. Camilo perked up hearing the screams of his mother, a sinking feeling growing in his gut. Was someone injured? He quickly heaves the bags on his shoulder and starts jogging over to his mama. As he pushed through the crowd, his ears picked up on the worried shouts around him.
“Blood! There’s blood!”
“There was a gun! I swore I heard it!”
“Señora Y/N!”
“Mama! Mama!”
“Is there any food?! Agustin! Go get my bag!”
Camilo felt his heart drop, he immediately threw the bags on the ground and started running. People around him were clearly panicked but he still had no idea how bad it was. He finally reaches Y/N and he starts to realize the gravity of the situation. Camilo was horrified but he couldn't bring himself to move. He just stares, shaking, stunned, and scared. He felt helpless, all he could do was wait for a miracle.

“Someone put pressure on her wound!” Mirabel suddenly brushed past him to run to Y/N’s side. She held a cloth in her hands and wrapped it around the woman’s abdomen to try and stop the bleeding. Pepa immediately pressed down on the wound, apologizing when Y/N winced in pain. Y/N's hazy eyes scanned her surroundings. Camilo. Where's Camilo?
“..Amor..Camilo..?” She whispered, moving her head around to try and find him. Try as she might, all she could see were blobs of blurry colors. She reached her hand out but Mirabel gently pushed it down.
“Y/N don't exert any more energy! Camilo is safe don't worry.” Mirabel held Y/N’s head in place, trying to get the woman to calm down.
“Camilo! She called your name! Come here!” Camilo snapped out of his daze and ran to his wife’s side, gently placing her head on his lap. His heart painfully twisted when her dull unfocused eyes stared into his own. She turned to him, blood on her lips. He whispered her name, his shaky hands pushing her hair away from her sweaty face. Cold. She was so cold.
“Damn you, woman. I told you to hold onto the rocks.” His voice broke as he scolded her lightheartedly. Y/N just breathed out a laugh and smiled drowsily at him. Wait, her boys. Where are her boys? She started to panic, her heart rate speeding up.
“Where's Elias and Fernando? Are they ok!?” Her eyes rapidly flickering around her. Camilo quickly turned her head, letting her focus her gaze onto him. He pressed his forehead against hers, glancing at his boys who were crying quietly in Antonio's arms. Elias whimpered and reached out to him but Camilo couldn’t get him at this moment.
“They're fine, amor. They're with Antonio, it's ok.” Camilo hushed, trying to keep her awake while his tia Julietta rushed to make food with what little they had. He noticed her shivering and took off his ruana to drape it over her instead. Y/N smiled at him tenderly, fighting the urge to close her eyes.
Julietta quickly came running in with a bowl in hand. She scooped something out and pressed what seemed to be half-cooked dough against Y/N’s lips.
“Here, it won’t heal you fully but it’s enough to keep you alive.” Y/N quickly bit into the mixture, cringing slightly at the raw taste. Her pale face slowly got its color back and her wound closed up. Y/N tried to sit up but fell back screaming when pain shot through her body. Camilo caught her before she hit the ground and pulled her into his arms.
“Did it not work?” Camilo stressed, caressing her stomach as he held her close. He examined the wound and just as Julietta said, she wasn't fully healed as there was still visible clotting and scarring on the wound. Julietta smiled at him gently, placing her hand on his shoulder.
“It worked, her wounds are closed up now. However, she may experience pain for a few days. That is-until I can get a fire running and some proper food cooked. She just needs to rest, Camilo.” The shapeshifter felt a wave of relief wash through him. He pressed a palm to his heart, still shaking from the rush. His other hand was rubbing soft circles on her arm, reassuring her and himself that everything was going to be alright.
“I'll get your bags and set up a place where Y/n can rest.” Antonio set Elias and Fernando down, walking away to go help set up the tents. The two boys ran to their mother's side, eyes red and swollen from crying.
“It’s ok queridos, calm down.” She slowly sat up, leaning against Camilo’s side as Elias and Fernando cuddled up to her chest. “Oh dios...whats going to happen to us.” Pepa whispered, scooting beside her grandsons to rub their backs comfortingly. Felix plopped down beside her, fixing the crooked glasses on Elias’ face.
Camilo lifted his head to search for his sister and her kids. He saw Dolores and Mariano resting in the far distance, their kids with them. He finally let himself rest, his head throbbing painfully.
Their Encanto was gone, their safe haven destroyed. What about his twins? Their birthdays are in a month, would they even get a miracle? Irrational thoughts started to plague his mind. Dios, what we're they going to do?
Camilo slightly jumped when Y/N rested her head on his shoulder, quietly singing to her kids. Camilo pressed a kiss on her temple and sang along with her. As long as his family was fine then things would be alright. He was given a miracle, a second chance, and was going to make sure he wouldn’t even come close to losing any of them again. Even if he had to put down his own life.
‘Ay oruguitas, no se aguanten más
Hay que crecer a parte y volver
Hacia adelante seguirás
Vienen milagros, vienen crisálidas
Hay que partir y construir su propio futuro’
Camilo watched as Fernando slowly reached for the discarded bowl on the ground. The child eagerly scooped up the dough and shoved it in his mouth. Only to start gagging and spit it out moments later. Elias watched with an unamused gaze, calling his Abuelo Felix over so he could rat his brother out.
“Ay! Fernando! I told you not to eat that!” Felix scolded his grandson, taking the bowl away from the toddler. Pepa, Y/N, and Camilo laughed softly. Fernando just pouted cuddling closer against Y/N.
“He takes after you.” Y/N whispers to Camilo as she rakes her hair through Fernando’s curls. The boy smiled brightly at her, eagerly pressing his head against her hand. Camilo just snorted, pulling her closer to him.
Alma watches the scene from afar with teary eyes. Flashes of her past come back to her and she shuts her eyes painfully. Things might not have ended this way for her but she was happy for her grandson. She smiled softly at the scene, caressing her wedding ring.
The elderly woman looked out to the crowd of people around her. Mirabel roamed the area- offering water and blankets to everyone. A feeling of pride swelled within Alma. She felt a small glimmer of hope in her heart.
They would eventually get past this. They will get their Encanto back. But how?

PART 1 | PART 2 | PART 3 | FINALE
Four weeks. Four weeks was how long Bruno had been avoiding his nephew. And he needed that. Even now, when things were already stable, comfortable and happy, there were still days when he needed that space. But he couldn't avoid her forever and that's how he found himself in this situation.
"Please! Have another vision! We could find something out, maybe they'll end up leaving!" Mirabel perked up, waving her hands around enthusiastically. Bruno drummed his fingers against his temple, thinking, as he sits across Mirabel. Luisa awkwardly shifted around, digging her toes into the sand as she glanced back and forth between her sister and uncle. Bruno shrugged, suddenly chuckling as he slowly stood up. He tried to stealthily inch his way out but Luisa was quick to stop him.
"Sorry tio but if you find something out, maybe we could do something to help." She grabbed his sides and plopped him back onto the ground, an apology slipping underneath her breath. Mirabel nodded, scooting closer towards him.
"And what if I show you something horrible? What if someone gets hurt or worse.." Bruno pauses, eyebrows furrowing as he flickered his eyes between the two women in front of him. "..someone dies?"
Mirabel halted, feeling reluctant for a moment before shaking her head. "Even if it's bad. We need to do anything we can. I believe in you."
Bruno hesitated for a moment, a hint of fear in his eyes. He awkwardly rubbed his arms, mind fumbling for an excuse to get him out of this situation. He looked up and Luisa smiled at him while Mirabel rose a brow, waiting. Bruno raised his arm and carded through his grey locks, sighing as he eventually picked up a nearby jar.
"I see your point." Bruno stood up and smiled at them both. His nephews watched with eager eyes as he slowly filled the jar up with sand.
"Worth a shot, huh? That's what Camilo says." Bruno joked, mimicking his nephew. He started to form a sand circle for his vision, making sure the ring was wide enough for the three of them. Bruno squatted down on the ground, then, with a heavy exhale, he reached into his ruana and took out a handful of salt to throw behind his back. He lit a match, which he used to ignite piles of leaves. The smoke from the leaves start to spiral around them and Bruno's eyes glaze over before they eventually shut. The wind around them blows up as sand begins to swirl around the group, encasing them in a dome of some sorts. Bruno throws his glowing green eyes open and offers the two women a hand.
The sand starts to whip and carve into burning buildings and houses, Mirabel gasps and recognizes the familiar scene. "It's Encanto! That's from back then!" Bruno nods in response, watching carefully as the visions focused on a group of horsemen. He watched as they galloped away, leaving Encanto in ruins. Luisa tapped his shoulder and pointed to a figure. "That's Mirabel!" Mirabel eagerly turned her head around, grinning when she saw herself.
"Yes! So they do leave!" She wasted no time and rushed out of the sand dome, running towards the village. Bruno scrambled to his feet and shouted for her. "Mirabel! Wait! The vision isn't finished! Encanto could still be dangerous!"
"Don't worry, I'll go after her." Luisa muttered, patting his shoulder before running to catch up to Mirabel.
┈ ✁✃✁ ┈
"Papa!" Fernando ran up to Camilo, laughing when the shapeshifter grabbed him by the waist. The toddler started twisting and squirming in the mans grasp, trying to get away. Camilo grinned and held the boy up, lightly tossing him in the air before catching him with ease. Fernando beamed in delight and kicked his legs around enthusiastically.
"Having fun?" Y/N grinned, walking over to the two of them, her hands locked with Elias. Camilo turned to the two of them, bending down and opening his arms up.
"Elias! Come here!" Elias quickly stumbled over, raising his arms up and jumping on the balls of his feet. Camilo set Fernando on his shoulders, taking his other son into his arms. A harsh yank on his hair forcibly pulled his head back and Camilo yelped feeling two little fists gripping his curls tightly. Y/N gasped and scolded her eldest, trying to get his prying hands away.
"Ay! Fernando, no! Don't pull on papas hair."
Fernando just grinned and started pulling harder, Camilo groaned and tried to shake the toddlers hands away. Elias laughed and lightly slapped Fernando's hands, making his brother stop. Y/N lifted a hand to massage his scalp, fixing the messed up curls. Camilo turned around and glared at Fernando playfully, the toddler just sent him a cheeky grin, sticking his tongue out.
"Your mama was right. You do take after me.." Camilo muttered, taking Fernando off his shoulders and into his arms. He bounced the two boys in his arms, mindlessly walking around the fields listening to their blabbering while his wife clung to his side.
Camilo stared at the two boys in his arms quietly, both with rosy cheeks and an unruly head of hair, they were practically carbon copies of him. His eyes drifted over to the makeshift camps people made and he unconsciously frowned, this was no situation for children to be in. This was no situation for children so young, children who still held the innocence of childhood imagination. Elias quieted down, catching the downcast look on his papa's face. His small hand reached down and gripped Camilo's pinky.
"Hmm?" Camilo looked down, a brow raised and Elias's face pinched into a look of hesitance before he smiled, small yet encouraging.
"We'll be ok?" Camilo halted, staring at Elias in surprise before smiling lightly. Y/N fixed the glasses on Elias's nose, ruffling his head affectionately. “That's right, don’t worry. We'll be fine."
Fiddling with his fingers, Elias looked at her, eyes glossy, “Really?” Camilo's heart twisted and he immediately nodded his head, rubbing Elias's back comfortingly. Y/N glided her fingers along his cheeks, pressing her palms against them. She placed a peck on his forehead before moving her fingers through his unruly curls, tousling and playing with the strands. "Of course we will."
"Camilo!" Luisa ran towards them, Isabella right behind her. She placed a heavy hand on her cousins shoulder and he immediately turned to her, catching the panicked look on her face. He took a deep breath and spoke. "What happened?"
"It's Mirabel! She's ran back to the village."
Y/N fell silent for a moment, her eyes filling with concern as she scanned Camilo's expression. His mouth gaped open, eyes darting across the fields. She could see it in his expression; hazed, lost, and torn. He was trying wrap his mind around the situation. She didn’t have to talk to him now to know that his mind had gone blank. Finally he turned to her, shifting so Y/N could take the boys into her arms.
"I'll be back." A spike of panic went through her and those words snapped her back to her senses. She wanted to do something, but she couldn't move. She shakily stepped back, staring at him before nodding. Y/N opened her mouth to speak and then shut it just as quickly, staring off for a long moment.
“I don’t know what you’re all doing,” She whispered. “But you better keep safe.” Camilo smiled, he reached his hands up to grasp her face, placing a loving kiss atop her lips. He pulled away and pressed a kiss on both Elias and Fernando's foreheads.
"I will."
That was a lie.
┈ ✁✃✁ ┈
Bruno rubbed his hands together, releasing a shaky breath. He squatted down, closing his eyes to regain his once lost concentration. Sand started to whip around him once more, his eyes glowing a deep emerald green.
"Let's try this again."
Bruno watched carefully as the sand around him replayed the same vision from awhile ago. His shoulders slumped and his body relaxed, that's it? He decided to watch for a few more minutes, eventually sighing when nothing else happened. He held his hand out and watched as the green slab formed in his hands.
His feet started to guide him in direction of the camp, his eyes busy analyzing the vision in front of him. That couldn't be it. He lowered his hand to the slab, lightly tracing over the figures in the vision-pausing when his finger landed on an unknown one. The tall figure was hidden in the far corner of the slab, hidden behind trees and bushes. Bruno stared in confusion for a few minutes before his eyes widened and a sense of cognizance washed over him.
"A conquistador." He whispered. Bruno took in a sharp breath, pulse speeding up as his stomach sunk. He immediately started running, scrambling around the camp to find Julietta and Pepa. It didn't take long for his ears to pick up on their familiar voices. He immediately booked it towards their direction, nearly tripping and bumping into the people around him.
"PEPA!" Pepa blinked, head whipping left and right. She yelped when someone suddenly crashed into her, making her fall forward. She groaned and pushed herself off the ground, holding her back painfully. She turned her head around, a dark cloud forming above her head. "Bruno!"
"Hi..Sorry- It's important."He reached up and carded through his hair, brushing away a strand of white hair. He clasped his hands together and stood straight, staring intently at his sisters. Julietta stepped forward, a concerned look on her face. She pressed her hand against his chest, eyes silently questioning him.
"What's wrong?"
"It's about Mirabel. She ran with her cousins back to Encanto after seeing my vision!" Bruno stressed, pushing the green slab into Julietta's hands. He ran to her side and pointed to the soldier he spotted earlier. "The vision showed the conquistadors leaving Encanto but I think there are still soldiers hiding around."
Pepa felt her throat hitch, her eyes immediately noticing a detail that Bruno, in his panicked state, failed to. She reached her hands out and took the slab from Julietta's hands. The two watched as the skies turned dark, thunder starting to rumble in the clouds.
"Bruno." She whispered, face twisting into a sour expression. Bruno jolted and turned to look at her, a brow raised in confusion.
"Huh-Uh-Yeah?"
"Why is Camilo bleeding?" Pepa's grip on the slab tightened. She rose a shaky finger up, firmly pressing it against the surface of the tablet. Bruno and Julietta followed her gaze, now staring at the image of Camilo hunched over, clutching his stomach with a pained expression carved onto his face.
"Mierda."

PART 1 | PART 2 | PART 4 | FINALE
Y/N stood, her legs shaking as she tried to heave herself up, nearly falling from her lightheadedness if it weren't for the strong pair of arms hoisting her up. Camilo took his wife into his arms, easily supporting her weight as he walked towards the tent Antonio set up. Her condition worsened since last afternoon and her body was fighting for rest. She took low ragged breaths and turned her gaze upwards, observing the stars that filled the dark sky. She watched carefully as clouds scattered and floated around, feeling a wave of calmness suddenly fill her.
"Death doesn't seem so bad.." Y/N joked. A pained smile spread across her face, her cheeks flushed, and the corner of her eyes crinkled as she laughed lightly at her own joke. Camilo heard her and his eyes grew wide in horror, immediately whipping his head to glance at her form. Her 'joke' did nothing but terrify him and he frowned deeply, unconsciously holding her tighter.
"Don't-" He paused. "You can't leave us yet." Camilo spoke, his tone soft as his voice cracked ever so slightly. She lifted her head, seeing Camilo's eyebrows creased- an unreadable expression on his face. Her heart broke, eyes turning soft as she brought her hand up, pushing loose curls away from his face.
"I won't. I promise." Camilo leaned into her touch, lips quirking into a light smile. He ducked down as he entered the tent, quickly walking over to the bed in the corner. Julietta stood by the bed, a distressed look on her face as her sobrino rushed over.
"Be gentle, her wounds are still tender." Julietta warned him, her hands adjusting the sheets on the ground. Camilo gently set his wife down on the makeshift bed, his feet stumbling slightly. Once her back hit the sheets, Y/N let out a deep sigh of relief. She let her muscles relax, sinking back onto the layered piles of cloth.
"There you go, I heard they've already managed to set up a fire. I do think we still have some raw fish left over. I'll go cook something up for you." Julietta smiled softly, patting her hands down on her skirt. She walked towards Camilo, placing a gentle hand on her nephew's arm.
"Try not to worry so much, sobrino. She'll be just alright." Camilo hesitantly nodded, tapping his fingers against his thigh. She patted his arm and walked out of the tent, leaving the couple alone. Elias and Fernando were with Pepa and Felix as they wanted to give the two a quick break to compose themselves. Y/N smiled and opened her arms up, urging Camilo to come closer. Her husband smiled and kneeled down beside her bed, wrapping his arms around her. He buried his face into the crook of her neck, careful not to touch her wound.
"That was terrifying to see, you know." Camilo mumbled, his hand reaching for hers; smiling faintly when their rings clicked together. Y/N didn't miss how his hand lightly shook in her grasp. She shifted slightly, turning her body towards Camilo so she could run a hand through his curls. A comforting silence washed over the room as the couple silently held each other in their arms.
┈ ✁✃✁ ┈
Julietta walked into the tent, holding a plate of fish and a glass of water in her hands. Camilo separated from his wife and took the plate from his Tia's hands. He broke apart a piece of the fish and pressed it against her lips, watching as she eagerly opened her mouth, taking the meat in her mouth, quickly chewing and swallowing.
Camilo observed her as she reached for the glass of water, nervously glancing at her wound. A few minutes passed and her scabs and scarring slowly faded away. He softly pressed his palm flat against the surface of her abdomen. He caressed her now smooth skin and visibly relaxed, the tension in his chest easing. Y/N smiled and turned to Julietta, quietly thanking the woman.
"Thank you, Tia." Camilo turned to Julietta and pulled her into a hug. Julietta laughed and patted his back, parting away from her nephew.
"Oh it's alright, I'm just glad you're safe. Make sure to get some rest for now." The couple bid her goodbye as she quickly rushed out the room, possibly to tend to other injured villagers. Camilo turned and met his wife's gaze again, she gestured for him to come over and he grinned. The shapeshifter immediately buried himself in her arms, sighing softly when her hands traveled up into his hair, carding through his curls. He held her against him and let himself lay back, coming to rest on the thin blanket, the uncomfortable position strained his back, but he didn’t dare move.
Here, in the tent, lit only partially by their wedding candle, it was hard for Camilo to recall the dark misery of hours before. He smiled softly, eyes fluttering shut as he heaved out a deep sigh, perhaps he could pretend tonight was just like any other.
┈ ✁✃✁ ┈
Dolores quickly weaved through the crowd, eyes darting around for a familiar dark haired girl. People were hustling and rushing around her, far too busy setting up temporary shelters and building fires. The sky above her grew darker, wind blowing stronger now as the leaves on the trees rustled loudly. A cold breeze passed by her and she shivered, clutching her shawl closer against her body. Dolores cupped a hand behind her ear, listening carefully for a familiar voice. There!
"Mirabel!" Dolores quickly rushed over, reaching for her shoulder. Mirabel jumped and turned to smile at Dolores though her enthusiasm quickly dropped when she saw the distressed look on her primas face. Mirabel swiftly grabbed Dolores's arm and guided her to a vacant lot, raising her brows as she silently questioned the woman.
"It's about the soldiers. I heard them mumbling and muttering about something." Mirabel froze, fear swimming around in her pupils.
Mirabel bit the inside of her cheek. "What? What did you hear?" She gripped Dolores's shoulders tightly, urging her to continue. Dolores hesitated for a moment, feeling ill as the horrifying sounds she heard replayed in her mind. The anguished screaming, the deafening sounds of crackling fire-she shut her eyes painfully, taking a deep breath to compose herself.
"I've heard whispers about a conflict, conquistadors maybe?" I think they're ransacking our village, I've heard them crashing through houses." Dolores muttered, watching as Mirabel ran a hand through her hair.
"¿Qué? Conquistadors? What- we haven't heard of those soldiers for years. Why are they suddenly- how did they even-" Dolores watched with worried eyes as Mirabel nervously rubbed her hands together, pacing around the place.
