I'll Take My Whiskey Neat
The saloon was dim and lively, with the warm lights casting a molten glow over the villagers inside. Shane and Sam sat in the corner by the fireplace, with the younger man lively gesturing to the older in conversation, with Shane secretly smiling at the boy's gesticulations behind his beer mug. Leah and Elliot sat next to each other on the other side of the bar, each artist gently swapping pieces of conversation from the day and the progress on their respective crafts, and hollering could be heard from the next room over as Abigail, Sebastian, and Alex competed around the pool table.
Harvey sat at the bar, nursing a whiskey neat that Gus had stocked away for the doctor specially. The amber liquid was a warm rush down Harvey's throat, a rich yet ultimately fruitless distraction from his wandering mind. Lewis and Marnie sat only a few stools down from Harvey, and he hoped desperately that they wouldn't pick up on him eyeing the saloon door every few seconds.
The doctor sighed, swirling the remaining whiskey in his glass. He wasn't waiting for the farmer, no more than anyone would wait for any of their other friends, Harvey tried to convince himself. No, it was normal to anxiously watch the door until one's friend entered the bar where all the other town's people were gathered, normal to anticipate the way the ambient lights would glow in the farmer's eyes, how her hair would curl gently around her face, loosened from the day's work. These were all normal behaviors, completely, the doctor told himself, as a flush rose on his cheeks not just from the drink in front of him.
If he were honest with himself, though he rarely was, Harvey wasn't entirely sure when his friendship with the town's farmer became something more. Harvey could recall her first week in town, taking over her grandfather's farm, and running about the town introducing herself to the town's people. Harvey would never forget how the sun light glittered off her hair as Penny shyly opened up to her, or the sound of her laughter with Alex and Sam running outside. But most of all, Harvey would never forget the simultaneous peace and butterflies that filled his chest when the farmer made her way into his clinic for the first time, like being faced with one's future all at once. The farmer bounced into his waiting room, chatting with Maru and Evelyn, asking so sweetly how even cranky George was doing, that Harvey stood struck in his spot. There was no time though, as soon Harvey stood face to face with the energetic young lady. Her beaming smile and citrusy scent had Harvey enraptured at once, and warmth flooded his chest even more when the farmer grinned and extended the black coffee to him. She had found his favorite from Maru, and the two had left him none the wiser. Harvey didn't recognize the butterflies in his stomach at the time, determined after years of medical school and cultivating proper doctor patient relationships to digest the feelings before they could grow. But with every weekly coffee shared, each wine testing for the farmer's burgeoning winery, Harvey was swallowed up into friendship and eventually, the infatuation that had him in his predicament that night.
The doctor wasn't used to romantic feelings, having never been the recipient of them growing up and too busy and professional later in life to act on them. He felt like a school boy struck dumb with his first crush, and even worse, on his closest friend. Harvey stared into his glass, torn between waiting for the farmer and sorting through what to do about the bubbling feelings in his chest.
It was at that point that the farmer finally burst through the saloon doors, laughing alongside Maru. The two had become fast friends, and Harvey both loved and cursed that fact as it made even more of an excuse for the farmer to stop by the clinic often, a problem as the doctor's feelings grew.
He had been right, though. The bar lights twinkled in her eyes, highlighting the glow on her cheeks given to her from days working the farm in the summer sun. The farmer was wearing her hair back in a braid, customary to keep her hair out of her face on long days on the farm and in the mines, with wisps kissing along her temples. A pair of shorts hugged her hips, strong from hard work, and a white blouse made her look absolutely ethereal. Harvey was dumbstruck at her beauty, desperately trying to hide the fact behind his whiskey glass.
The farmer made light conversation with the other villagers, laughing through the crowd and playfully swatting at Elliot's overly verbose flirtations. Eventually, she made her way to the bar, plopping into her usual seat beside Harvey. His breath caught in his throat, had she always smelt that nice? Warmth practically radiating off of her? The tall doctor hunched his shoulders, trying to remember how to breath with all of those thoughts about the farmer running through his head.
The farmer called Emily over, chatting with the other woman and ordering a drink for the night. A whiskey on the rocks, inverse from Harvey's own. The farmer had tipsily confessed to him one night just like this that she couldn't handle the straight whiskey the doctor preferred, but wanted to at least try. It had sent a loving flush to the doctor's cheeks then, flattered and touched by the woman. Harvey didn't hear her call over another drink for himself as well, jostled out of his reverie when the two glasses were set down before them.
The farmer grinned up at Harvey, a teasing glint in her eye. The doctor simultaneously loved and slightly feared what that glint may bring. The farmer chatted with him as usual though, asking how his models were going, how the work at the clinic was treating him and if he was eating like he should. The flow of conversation eased Harvey into their usual repertoire, with Harvey eventually comfortable enough to tease the farmer about her latest risky excursion into the mines, chiding her to be more careful, that he didn't want to stay in business that badly. The giddy peace Harvey usually felt with the farmer settled into his chest, though he couldn't help but notice the farmer slinking lower and lower on the stool beside him, eventually resting her head against his shoulder.
Harvey did his best to stay as still as possible, flushed with the current position he and the farmer found themselves in and determined not to startle her off and break their shared moment. The farmer must have felt Harvey turn into stone, as she titled her head up, eyes sparkling, and asked the doctor to walk her home. Not an usual practice between the two, but something felt different about it tonight.
The doctor stepped down from his stool, holding his hand out to the farmer, and led the two of them through the saloon's crowd and to the door. Harvey could feel the eyes of a few of the more observant town's people on his back, but told himself nothing should appear out of the ordinary, and focused on the feeling of the farmer's smaller, but tougher, palm in his. The pair made their way through the summer night, a gentle wind ruffling their hair and giving the air a pleasant, playful edge, the only sound the doctor and farmer's footsteps on the path's cobblestone. The silence was comfortable, and Harvey glanced down at the top of the farmer's head, gently resting on his arm as they walked. If he didn't know better, Harvey would have sworn he felt a smirk from the farmer pressing into where she gripped his arm.
The two finally reached the farmer's property line, soon stepping up onto her porch. Without warning, the farmer stopped dead in her tracks, using Harvey's forward momentum to pull him to turn and face her. He had been right, a smirk attempting to appear innocent played at the farmer's features, as she tried to school them into something nonchalant and unassuming. The summer air turned heady and promising, an electric current zipping its way through Harvey's gut. The farmer gazed up at him through her eyelashes, sweet and playful, before swinging to her tip toes and pressing a kiss to the corner of Harvey's mouth. His mustache bristled at the movement, and the doctor's knees nearly gave way beneath him. While he was still in shock, the farmer giggled. Before Harvey could come back to his senses, the farmer thanked him for walking her home, slipping into her cabin, a pleased look on her face at the stupor she had left Harvey in. Harvey stood on her porch, shocked, hand gently brushing his lip and facial hair where the farmer's lips had pressed.
It was a small gesture, but a sweet one. Nearly too sweet, but maybe, just maybe, something for Harvey to pin his hopes on.

the thing about stardew valley in general is there are soooooo many good potential character dynamics that just go completely unexplored. like emily and shane are friends and so i would imagine haley has some interactions with him that i imagine are just them being mean to each other but like in the most casual way possible. haley doing photography and leah doing sculpture and they live pretty close to each other - they would totally collab on an art exhibit i think!
then there's penny and alex who are next door neighbors and i think maybe they interact or stand next to each other once or twice? (edit: nvm i was thinking of sam) but they are both only children of abusive alcoholic parents i think they should bond and become friends! penny is a bookworm and alex is dyslexic but she's very kind and i don't think she would ever make him feel stupid about it. in fact i think maybe they hang out and penny will read out loud to him even!
sam and haley are neighbors and their rooms face each other! do u think they were maybe childhood friends who drifted apart? could they become friends again? maybe sam commissions haley to do some photos of the band for album covers or promotional pics.
maru and abigail!!!! abby is best friends w her half brother so they've definitely crossed paths before. they're completely different people but i could imagine abby shows up when sebastian isn't home and maru is the only one home so she offers to show abby what she's working on, and i think abby would find it all really interesting and maybe they choose to hang out on purpose sometime in the future!
i read a fic once where gus lets alex use his kitchen to make the ice cream for his summer business and i LOVED that!! i can imagine gus taking on a fatherly role towards alex- teaching him how to cook, maybe giving alex some scraps for his dog!!
i could go on but there are just soo many good possibilities in this little town of weirdos and i love love thinking about it!!

hear me out; bachelors meeting their son/daughter for the first time
Hell yeah 👏
Enjoy, and thanks for your ask! 😊
Harvey:
Harvey was in seventh heaven when he found out that he would soon become a father. At the same time, he remained calm when it came to preparing for the arrival of a new family member, because Harvey is a doctor, a professional in his field, and knows how to take care of the health of a child and his partner. Yet he had to take off his glasses, as they were wet from his own tears. Their child, their precious little treasure that Harvey and the Farmer will cherish for the rest of their lives. It seemed to him that he would remain a bachelor, and he never thought that he would find his happiness in this small Valley. Well then, Doctor and best father reports on his duties!
Alex:
When Alex first holds the blanket in which his newborn/adopted child is wrapped, tears constantly flow down the face of the athlete. It doesn't matter to him that he can be called a crybaby, because, after his marriage to the Farmer, this is the happiest day of his life. Alex remembers what kind of person his father was and vowed to himself that he would be the best parent for the child. He may have become a little overprotective, but the Farmer knows that Alex will fit perfectly into the role of a father, and together they will give the child a happy life.
Shane:
No matter how much Shane claims he was a bad uncle to Jas, no matter how much he jokes that he's such a terrible father figure, it's all a lie. Because with the addition of a new little member to his and the Farmer's life, Shane turned into a mother hen. Marnie jokingly gave this nickname to her nephew, but in a good way, because it's true and fits Shane's description very well. He never had a real family, Marnie and Jas were the only close people in his life. And now fate has given him the Farmer and their precious baby, and Shane will do everything possible to protect his happiness.
Elliott:
Elliott was preparing for the arrival of the baby: he arranged the nursery with the Farmer, ordered wooden kid's toys from Leah, put away sharp objects and sharp-edged furniture, and collected many books from the library about parenting. The excited writer had been waiting for the long-awaited appearance of the baby for a long time, and yet he could not restrain himself and burst into tears when he held the baby in his arms for the first time. He already imagined how he would read bedtime stories to his child in the future, how he would teach them calligraphy, how he and the Farmer would be here with their baby at every steps. It will be wonderful.
Sam:
Wow, so small. Sam probably never thought of himself as the father, but when he first saw his child in Farmer's arms, he knew that starting a family was the right decision. Sam can't help but smile every time his little one looks at him and laughs at the funny sounds that Sam makes. Every time a young dad plays with a child, while promising to be the best and coolest dad for the baby, Sam involuntarily gets wet drops in his eyes. Yes, he's a little emotional, so what? And let his young age and frequent forgetfulness not bother anyone, because Sam will become the best dad in the world!
Sebastian:
Just like Sam, Sebastian didn't envision himself as a father. His shyness, bad habits, not too active lifestyle. Who needs such a person, reminiscent of a mole in his way of life? But the Farmer accepted him for who he is, and now they have a child. And when the sleeping child was in Sebastian's arms, he couldn't help smiling broadly. Usually Sebbi doesn't show his emotions outward even when he's happy, keeping everything inside himself. But pride and happiness overwhelm him so much that it is impossible to contain everything inside. And the Farmer knows that their partner will be the best father.

maybe a weird ask, but what do you think the bachelors/ettes superpowers would be?
Imagining the marriage candidates with some kind of ability was both super fun and also a pain in the ass. I didn’t want to go the obvious route with anyone, and I also didn’t want to make any of them into an actual superhero, so, under the assumption that they exist in a world where everyone is super-powered in some way or another, I came up with these. I also made sure that they all had some kind of drawback or a “catch” of some kind, so they wouldn’t be completely broken powers.
I don't think there are any necessary warnings this time. Enjoy!
Sam
Everyone’s favorite golden retriever boy gets Instrument Manipulation. It’s the kind of power that does exactly what it says on the tin. Sam can manipulate instruments, but unlike Musical Mastery, for example, Sam is only able to use this ability to play on instruments he’s already familiar with. We know he can play the guitar and the drums, but he wouldn’t be able to use this ability to play the violin, or something. He could probably use it to bash someone up the head with one, though.
Sebastian
Before anyone gets excited—we’ve only got room for one sorcerer in Pelican Town, and that’s Rasmodius. With that in mind, Sebastian’s superpower is Cyber Presence. The ability to exist within cyberspace, and effectively exist everywhere, all at once—as long as there’s some level of technology in that area. Whether it be a global computer network, radar or security systems, or even satellites, Sebastian would be given the freedom to enter and exist in the cyber world at his own will. However, if any of the devices have a virus of some kind, it will affect his physical form and could potentially harm or otherwise “alter” him.
Alex
You’d think he’d get something like super strength or super speed, but I think Alex would get the most use out of Enhanced Stamina. He’d be able to practice gridball for hours to days without tiring, and he’d have no issues with helping around the farm for as long as he needed to. If you chose to have children in the future, I imagine he could keep up with the kiddos without breaking a sweat either. This wouldn’t be an absolute thing—he would get tired eventually, but he’d last a while. A few days of uninterrupted activity, at most, but he'd never go that long. Granny Evelyn still worries, you know!
Elliott
Literary Travel allows the user to effectively “dimension hop” between different works of fiction. Elliott can act as himself in these fictional worlds, but cannot affect the plotline or the outcome of whatever story is being told. He would also only be able to hop into these fictional works while touching the physical medium(books, movie CDs, etc.). Elliott would use this ability in a myriad of ways, but as a man who’s constantly wrapped up in the dramatics and whimsy of life, I think he’d use it most often as a form of escapism. He’d have a limit for how much time he could spend in alternate realities, and his escapades would always be dreamlike. It would allow him the freedom to explore those places, but it wouldn’t deteriorate his perception of his reality, which I think is important.
Shane
I want him to be able to speak to his chickens, so Shane gets Zoolingualism. He wouldn’t be able to speak the language of an animal that’s gone extinct, but he can speak to every other animal with ease as long as meets a member of that species once. Unlike Marnie, who can perfectly replicate and mimic animal sounds and literally speak their language, Shane communicates in a more intangible way. Rather, he speaks to the animal, and the intentions, emotions, and thoughts are injected into the animal’s brain. The opposite is also true for him. He comes off as a bit anti-social to the people who meet him, mostly because he spends all of his time in the barn communicating with the animals instead of the humans outside. Chickens are safer.
Harvey
I thought about giving him Flight because I’m an asshole, but eventually I decided against it. Instead, Dial allows Harvey to speed up or slow down an individual’s healing by manipulating a patient’s cells. Harvey can accelerate the healing process by quite a fair margin, and after so many years of mastery, he’s completely abandoned stitches because he can seal any wound closed on his own. Further, if he were setting someone’s fractured limb, their time with a cast would be severely shortened by using his ability. However, he can not immediately cure any or all ailments, and using his ability for long periods of time will give him body aches. He may go too far or push himself a little too hard, and his body has shown the effects of that in recent years. He’s not able to bounce back as quickly as he used to.
Maru
You may have thought that I’d go with something obvious like Absolute Intelligence or whatever, but we all know intelligence isn’t Maru’s lack, so let’s ignore her brains for a moment and shift gears. Interstellar Projection would fit her best. Being able to project herself through the infinite cosmos and visit the trillions of solar systems she’s only ever been able to see fuzzy glimpses of through her telescope would be a dream come true for her. However, because she is a human and could not survive in the vacuum of space without substantial protection, she would only be able to project her consciousness into space—not her physical form.
Penny
Telekinesis is Penny’s superpower. I think due to her responsibilities and her personal interests, being able to interact with objects without ever laying a finger on them would make a ton of things easier for her. Washing dishes, cleaning her home, cleaning up the library table after teaching the children, and reading would all be far simpler for her. Her emotions would affect it, however, so if she and Pam ever got into a heated argument in the trailer, their belongings might start levitating. She can manipulate inanimate objects, but cannot manipulate living things. She couldn’t make Vincent float, for example.
Abigail
I considered Invulnerability and Weapons Mastery for Abigail, but I think both of those would kill her enjoyment of swordsmanship and adventuring. So instead, I think she would get the most use out of Tactical Analysis. With the ability to see the perfect course of action when going head to head with a floor full of powerful monsters, I imagine she’d be one hell of an adventurer, but she’d still have to train her ass off to succeed with the kinds of plans her brain comes up with.
Haley
Charisma isn’t something Haley struggles with, but I think it’s an ability that fits her best. Being wealthy, popular, and having an ability to charm people would have contributed heavily to her developing a conceited and selfish personality, but after she expands her worldview and loses her superficial tendencies, I think she’d use her ability for good. If you’ve seen her heart event after getting married, you know exactly what I’m talking about. However, this ability’s effectiveness wears off the better you know her, and doesn’t have any effect on people she’s related to by blood, so it doesn’t work on Emily, and it stopped working on Alex a long time ago.
Leah
Leah’s ability is Foresight. Being a mix of Wisdom, Future Vision, Fate Sight, and Analytical Precognition, Leah has the ability to see a short distance into the future. Her ability takes the form of visions, lasting anywhere from a few seconds to a minute long. They are usually random, but if she focuses on herself very carefully, she can induce a vision. The ones that she doesn’t call forward are far more pressing and require more of her attention. Namely, a few visions in the months leading up to the end of her abusive relationship with Kel(y’all know how I feel about them), and even some regarding the Farmer’s appearance in the valley. She always has a pretty nasty migraine after a vision though, and needs to hold warm or cold compresses against her eyes to soothe the aching.
Emily
Emily was a toss up between a few powers, but eventually I settled on Omnilingualism. This ability allows the individual to speak all human languages fluently. Emily has a few cutscenes and lines in-game that make it clear that she isn’t lacking in the supernatural department, but her most notable characteristic is her immense kindness and empathy. Her desire to help others is admirable, and so I gave her this ability in the hopes that it would make it easier for her to offer aid to a plethora of different people. However, she’d only be able to speak a language after formally meeting a person who spoke it, so she couldn’t learn any dead languages.

What would Stardew Valley look like some time in the future?
These are just my headcanons, but i love all the NPC's of Stardew so much i wanna write em some endings. (Feel free to expand on any of my ideas or add your own, I want to see some more of your own)
The farmer became so rich that they retired, and invested all their money into the town, fixing up the streets and funding events, but yet, no matter what they do, it doesn’t attract that many people. Tourists still show up, but just as many as before the farmer arrived. No one can explain it, it was as
Hayley got into a course in photography and left for 2 years to complete her degree. However, upon finishing it, she decided that the best place for her was back in Stardew Valley, and moved back in to her old room, which Emily had converted into her personal sewing place. There were several arguments over that particular situation. It took many years and a lot of financial support from Emily – who was still working at the saloon – but she finally became a professional freelance photographer, mostly documenting the strange and wonderful world around Stardew Valley.
George and Evelyn eventually passed on, and the whole town came out for their funerals, even Sebastian drove all the way from Zuzu city to be there. Lewis put together a wonderful speech about them, as they had all lived in the community together their entire lives. Marnie was sobbing in the aisles, and had to be quietly escorted out by Shane and Jas. Alex inherited their house, but it didn’t feel right without his loving grandparents, so he mostly left it the way it was and stayed with Hayley most of the time. With plenty of spare time on his hands and nothing much in the way of financial burden, he began working on a plan with Penny, Robin and the Farmer.
With the Farmer supplying the money (they’re essentially a billionaire at this point), Robin built a small schoolhouse up near the community centre and playground. Penny and Alex began teaching there, with Penny taking English and Mathematics, while Alex gave them all the most intense P.E lessons ever conceived. One day, they rocked up to class to see that he had converted their room into an insane obstacle course, which they spent the day racing through over and over again. Sometimes, they would take a field trip to Darius’s lab, and he would show them whatever experiment he was working on. He once got into a shouting match with one of the children over whether a tomato was a fruit, but the situation was quickly de-escalated before Darius could through said experiment all over the poor child.
Alex never achieved his dreams of Gridball glory, but he found happiness. Also, he finally worked up the courage to move back into his grandparent’s house. It was sad to have to clean it out, but Hayley was very supportive, and they turned it into the house they always wanted. In time, the empty rooms were filled with the sound of children's laughter and screams of excitement. It was never perfect, and there was enough chaos to make their lives interesting, but it was their chaos and they were perfectly okay with that.
I am definitely gonna write more of these because I love these characters so much and I want to give them all excellent endings

At last, my "Proper Farmer™" got her own actual profile! 😭
Many thanks to the "Farmer Portrait" Picrew for the portrait (duh!) and the "SDV Dollmaker" mostly for the sprites (though I would appreciate if they could be saved in a bigger size 😅).
Also, many, many, many more thanks to @d-structive for the lovely commission! 💖
Here's the original pic:

I only have an extra bit to drop: Melly's recurring theme is "apples".
Hence why the farm is named "Honeycrisp", while Melly's actual name is "Melinda". in addition, her clothing colours is supposed to recall the different colours of the apple fruits while not being an eyesore. And I know: it is quite ironic for someone so apple-centered to have not a single apple listed anywhere in the "gifts".
Another fun fact about Melly is that the light green gilet is an old gift from her grandmother, who had a huge passion for knitting (and sewing). Melly's been cherishing and treating that clothing item with utmost care, also considering it as some kind of personal lucky charm.
And now, if you made it thus far, inb4 anyone may jump at my throat for what I wrote under "relationships", the fourse horsemen of "avoided like the plague" all have a specific reason each to be avoided:
Haley: Merely commented one time too much on Melly's look. The last straw was her subtle-but-not-really taunt at some sleeveless gilet "so out of style".
Alex: Asked Melly if she wears any bikini. While they didn't even know each other that much. Melly sputtered, panicked, balked and ceased any further attempt at socialising with him since then, in that precise order. 💀
Shane: At first it had been his severely unsociable demeanour to make her desist. After incidentally learning about his struggles with depression, Melly is now low-key scared shitless concerned to say or do something wrong in his presence that might potentially worsen the thing. He is not really a full "ALTP" like the former two, but she'd rather keep her distance until feeling ready enough to attempt any new approach.
Penny: This might come as a surprise, considering how she always seems so sweet and kind and polite and etc. when interacting with her. However Melly came to quite a rough halt with Penny's interactions the day they ended up talking about children. Some farmer has just never really forgotten that "if everyone thought like that, humans would die out" very quick and negative judgement that instantly drove her up a couple walls. 🙂 On the other hand, if Penny will ever reach out with the due apologies, Melly may consider forgiveness; she's too good to hold grudges even after an apology.
As for all the unmentioned NPCs, they are either in the "mutual tolerance" or "neutral" category. The latter would also include people Melly has yet to encounter (kinda hard to have an opinion on someone you've never seen before).
P.S.: The actual profile may be slightly updated in the future, depending on when and if the creator of that specific Picrew will ever include more items (the current portraits desperately needs for eyewear and I'm not that good at pixel-arting to add them myself 😔).

Green on the Vine — Strawberry Wine (Part 10 of ?)
(Stardew Valley — Shane/Female Farmer/OC)
This chapter is rated SFW — 3196 words. Feelings.
Note: Back to more bite sized chapters, at least for now. Smut chapters always turn into beasts, so I can't promise there won't be a few more in the future. Lmao.
(FYI: Additional chapters of Green on the Vine — Strawberry Wine can be found in the Stardew Valley Fic Masterpost link in my blog description.  Or, you can click the #green on the vine strawberry wine tag in this post, within my blog, to access all additional chapters.)
*****
Shane always had trouble sleeping on the nights he was stone-cold sober, and this night was no exception, despite his physical exhaustion. The woman snoozing peacefully next to him didn't seem to notice when he tossed and turned, fighting against the old springs threatening to puncture a hole in his spine. He wondered how Kristen could sleep at all, let alone so soundly, on such a shitty mattress and began making plans to somehow secure her a new one before he recognized how silly it was.
How can you buy her a brand new mattress when you struggle to buy Jas clothes every season?
With a muted groan, Shane gave up and slipped out of bed as quietly as possible. At this point, he was convinced the farmer could sleep through much more than his joints popping and left knee cracking from an old gridball injury. Nevertheless, he practically tip-toed out of her bedroom toward the kitchen. His mouth felt like he'd been licking sandpaper and desperately needed a glass of water.
"Whoa! What the fuck —"
Shane pitched forward, pinwheeling his arms as something fuzzy and liquid swam through his legs, tilting him off balance, terror gripping his heart when he was sure he'd fall flat on his face. The agonizing howl of some hellish beast floated toward him in the darkness, a white smudge shooting from under his feet only to disappear in the total blackness of the kitchen ahead.
"Moody, you little goblin," he hissed, somehow steadying himself on an antique record player sitting flush against the back of the worn couch. Kristen once told him that her grandparents would put Frank Sinatra LPs on that very player and slow dance in front of the fireplace. The twinkle in her eye made it evident that she held those memories dear, and Shane hoped like hell he hadn't fucked up the old player with his oafish sense of balance set against the treacherous serpentine dance of a mangy cat.
His remaining steps toward the kitchen were delicate, his eyes scanning the floor for another white tumbleweed to roll across his path, determined to break his neck for daring to sway the farmer's attention. Shane figured the cat would always hate him, recalling a time when Moody swiped at him when he sat next to Kristen on the couch with the lump of feline guarding her lap.
"He's just jealous,"  she'd said, laughing at Shane's indignant expression.  "He'll probably ignore me after you leave as punishment."
The decrepit pipes rattled when Shane turned on the kitchen faucet after fetching a glass. As it filled, his mind wandered, circling around one word again and again, dwelling on it as his memory leapt to the previous night and the burst of hostility that had caused him to shatter the tempered glass face of his shitty cell phone.
Jealousy.
Gulping down half the glass, Shane grimaced when the words he'd spat at Kristen during that short phone call resurfaced in his now sober head:  Did you have fun with Alex? Why don't you ask him to move in with you instead?
He knew now that the implication was profoundly absurd, and he didn't blame her for refusing to acknowledge it. But, at the time, his alcohol-addled senses were sure the young jock would successfully smuggle his way into her pants.
That says way more about you than it does about her. You need to fucking apologize and tone your shit down before you end up swatting at everyone that comes near her like an agitated fur ball.
Downing the remainder of the water in his glass in one final gulp, Shane refilled it to the brim and shuffled toward the bedroom. He didn't spot his arch-nemesis again on the return march and was glad he wouldn't end up kissing the hardwood anytime soon.
He found Kristen had rolled toward the middle of the bed in his absence, her arms and legs splayed like a starfish, a bush of curly hair completely obscuring her face from view. He would have laughed if he wasn't afraid of waking her. He briefly considered locating his damaged phone to snap a picture but thought better of it, not wanting to amp up the creepy just yet. As it was, Shane had no clue what sleeping together would do to their standing friendship. Were they even still  friends?
Sex changes everything. Always has, always will. It was the main reason he'd refused her advances after their sloppy night of drinking last winter. He never would have forgiven himself and thought he'd probably never recover if she woke up the following morning with regret swimming in her eyes. The last  true  friends he'd ever had were long dead, leaving Kristen the sole person in his life he attached the label to. And, even then, he'd fought her tooth and nail.
Resting the glass of water on her bedside table, Shane attempted to inch back onto the mattress, this time on the opposite side. Luckily, she let him in without resistance and even sucked him into her orbit like an orphaned moon floating uninhibited through space. And he supposed that's exactly what he was, giving in as her arms wrapped around him and tugged him toward her center of gravity, locking him in place, orphaned no more.

Shane awoke again to blinding sunlight scorching a hole through his eyelids. Cracking them open, he noticed the curtains were completely thrown back, flooding the small bedroom with stark, unadulterated reality. He was also alone, and his clothes were folded neatly, placed at the foot of the bed.
Even while he lay curled up in Kristen's slumbering embrace during the night, his mind raced with questions demanding answers sooner rather than later. Well, more like  one  question in particular…
What are we what are we what are we what are we —
Scrubbing his eyes with his fists, he rose to a sitting position and immediately noticed Moody perfectly loafed on the farmer's dresser, green eyes narrowed, ears angled backward. Shane didn't realize a cat could look so downright spiteful.
"Think we can be friends?" he asked the perturbed feline. An exaggerated huff came from the animal as he shifted, tail swishing across the cedar top.
Feeling silly for trying to reason with a cat, Shane hauled his body from the bed and got dressed. The inviting aroma of fresh coffee wafted through the cracked door, and he was glad her brewing skills were better than her cooking.
"Hey!" Kristen greeted when he plodded toward the living room and found her sitting on the couch with a book in hand. A wide smile nearly split her face in half as she placed it on the coffee table, page down, and stood. "I was just about to head outside and check on the hens."
"I'll do that," he replied, suddenly feeling awkward, which annoyed him. He'd fucked her into oblivion just hours before, had her screaming like a banshee, and he was pretty sure she'd come  twice . But now he felt tongue-tied, that phrase still rolling around his skull like a pack of loose marbles, clacking against each other, distracting him from behaving like a normal adult human being.
"Can I come watch?"
She rose from the sofa and approached him, her features soft and almost imploring as she confidently stepped into his personal space and wrapped her arms around his waist. A scent that reminded him of tiger lilies clung to her hair, making him feel nostalgic for a place and time he'd never experienced. Her openness in the wake of his budding insecurities soothed his nerves like a balm carefully smoothed over a burn, cooling and numbing them until the heaviness in his arms subsided and he embraced her back, all former hesitancies nonexistent.
"I wanna kiss you, but I haven't brushed my teeth," he said while rubbing slow circles on the small of her back.
"I want to do way more than kiss, but message received." She giggled — actually fucking giggled like a teenage girl, sparking something deeply buried in Shane's heart like the pop of static electricity strong enough to sting. "I have a few extra toothbrushes on the top shelf of the linen closet."
"Thanks," he mumbled. Stepping from her embrace felt like releasing a tether without a safety net, and he immediately wanted to scramble back into her arms.
Calm the fuck down , he chided himself as he strolled toward the bathroom as nonchalantly as he could manage.  You can't get attached this fast; you'll freak her the hell out.
However, thinking such a thing was simply inutile, considering he'd become attached to her much longer ago than he cared to admit.
Unsure what to do with the toothbrush he'd used when he was finished, Shane sat it in the cup next to hers. Staring at the twin brushes — yellow for hers and green for his — his eyesight began to blur and fuzz, like he was 10 years old again, trying to make out the hidden shapes in a mess of brightly colored squiggles printed on glossy paper. But nothing significant appeared from the haze except his inner monologue piercing through static, refusing to give him a moment's peace.
Should I ask her now or later? Should I even ask at all? She wanted me to move in two days ago, but everything's changed. Is she my fucking girlfriend now, or are we just friends who screw?
Girlfriend. The word sounded juvenile, even in his mind. He'd been in high school the last time he'd said it aloud.
Partner? That seemed better but held the same implications and required the same concrete confirmation. No matter what, it all came down to the same damn question again and again and again —
What are we?
He exited the bathroom with mint still clinging to his tongue, his expression as flat as usual. Despite the turmoil brewing within, Shane prided himself on keeping it hidden, at least while sober.
"Hey, Kriss. Um —" he began, shuffling toward her as she filled Moody's food bowl in the kitchen. The cat, too preoccupied to hate his guts for the time being, ignored him and crunched away at the kibble even before the last morsel hit the bowl.
"You found the toothbrush?" she interrupted, tossing the measuring cup on the counter and beelining toward him as if her trajectory was set for destruction. Shane quirked a brow and opened his mouth to reply but was quickly cut off again as she grasped the front of his shirt and pulled him in for a kiss. Unlike the simmering frenzy of their previous kisses, this one held a note of sweetness. Tenderness and warmth. An affectionate greeting exclusive to him alone.
"Sorry, what were you going to say?" she asked when she stepped back and released his shirt from her fist. The fabric was slightly crinkled, but it was the least of Shane's worries.
"Uh. Never mind," he said, deflecting intrusive thoughts in favor of regulating the quickening of his pulse and the flush toasting his cheeks. On the other hand, Kristen appeared completely unperturbed, returning to the kitchen to pour him a mug of coffee, handing it to him with an effortless smile.
The pair amicably performed the daily farm chores, side by side, even when Shane shot her sidelong glares and scolded her whenever he heard her hiss in pain. By mid-afternoon, he was convinced he'd never known anyone as stubborn as her other than himself.
"Where do you want these?" he asked, holding up two buckets filled to the brim with blueberries. Four more buckets crowded the porch near the front door.
"I don't care," she replied, weariness clinging to her tone as she plopped down on the steps. "You want to keep them?"
"I can't take your entire crop, Kriss." He knew she was being flippant but felt the need to rebuttal her regardless, the comfortable back and forth quieting the anxious monologue in his head.
"Fine," she groaned, tilting her head toward the front door. "Can you leave them by the sink? I'll wash them later."
"I'll do it now," he challenged and disappeared inside before she could protest.
The large porcelain farm sink in the quaint kitchen was something Shane wished they had at the ranch. Not that they grew an abundance of crops, but showering thousands of tiny blueberries with the hand sprayer as they sat in the oversized basin served as welcome visual white noise. Shane imagined bathing a flock of hatchlings in such a sink, teaching Jas to sprinkle droplets on their fuzzy heads to make them cheep.
"Shane?" Her voice cut through his meandering thoughts, and he realized he'd been washing the last batch of berries so long his fingers had pruned. "Can we talk?"
He couldn't accurately decipher her tone or expression as he craned his neck back to catch a glimpse of her standing behind him. Regardless, his pulse quickened, and adrenaline flushed through his limbs, making him unbearably hot in a matter of seconds.
"Yeah, sure," he agreed, attempting to appear unruffled as he dried his hands on a nearby towel and followed her toward the couch. She was already sitting, twirling a strand of hair around her fingers — an immediate tell that something was bothering her. When he sat beside her, he forced himself not to put an entire cushion between them, instead making sure their knees slightly touched.
"It's been a weird couple of days, huh?" she said, twirling the strand until it appeared painfully knotted around her finger.
"Weird…" he repeated, trying the world on for size in his mouth. He supposed it wasn't  wrong , considering how things had changed in the blink of an eye. He wondered what he would be doing right now if Kristen had just repaired the hole in the fence when he'd brought it to her attention weeks before. Most likely, he'd be playing video games with Jas and dreading work in the morning. Maybe he'd see the farmer in town on his way to the Saloon in the evening. Perhaps they'd share a plate of nachos, and she'd tease him while he playfully scowled at her from the rim of a beer mug.
"I'm about to sound like a complete psycho," she began, placing her hand on the knee kissing her own, "but I still want you to move in. Honestly, I've thought about it a lot… for a while. I get so lonely here on the farm and, I don't know — I think we'd make a good team."
He stared at her, flabbergasted, as she cast her face downward. The tips of her ears were almost the same fiery color as her hair, indicating that her usual confidence was being challenged in a way he couldn't comprehend. He wanted to grab her by the shoulders and shake her, tell her that she wasn't helping with his mission of behaving like a normal person and not clinging to her like a parasite.
"I know me forcing myself on you has changed things," she continued, picking a loose thread at the bottom of his shorts. "But I don't expect you to be like —"
"Force yourself on me?" he interrupted, indignation flaring up from his chest so suddenly that he stood and looked down at her. He knew she was being purposefully obtuse, trying to lay all the burden at her own feet to absolve him of any responsibility should things go south, which only irritated him all the more. "Is that really what you think happened?"
She faltered, caught off guard by his sudden agitation, stuttering over her words before she said, "No, wait — I mean, I  did  dump everything on you out of the blue and then practically tackled you at the ranch…"
"And I guess you forced me to come here last night, too?" he said, pointing out the gigantic flaws in her so-called logic. "Stop. You're not this dumb."
She looked up at him then, her expression perplexed as if she couldn't decide if she should be offended or not. "Shane, you said earlier that you didn't want to tell anyone about me."
"Wha — no, I didn't!" He began to pace in front of the couch, actually confounded as to how she came to such an outrageous conclusion. "I said Sam was being a nosey little shit. You think I'm ashamed of  you?  You walked out the front door of the ranch yesterday morning in plain sight of Marnie! Yeah, I'm so fucking ashamed. What's wrong with you, Kriss?"
Shane suddenly wondered if this was what it was like dealing with him when his insecurities scurried from their hole simultaneously, scuttling about like a pack of ravenous mice, nipping and nibbling at the toes of anyone brave enough to approach. It was uncanny being on the receiving end, especially when the other person's insecurities were so outlandish that he felt lightheaded by simply trying to grasp them.
"I don't know," she replied with a shaky sigh. "I'm sorry." She sounded so dejected that Shane ceased his anxious pacing and focused his attention entirely on her. Something was clearly wrong. "But you're still avoiding my question, so am I really off the mark?"
"It wasn't a question," he pointed out again, frustration dissipating as he sat back down. Shane couldn't remember the last time he had to reassure someone who wasn't a child. Even with Jas, he was pretty terrible at it. But he felt himself softening around the edges, his hackles lowering when he recognized that Kristen was honestly afraid that she'd taken advantage of him… and that he might reject her. Again, it struck him how surreal it felt to have such an upper hand when he was usually the one sprawled face down in the metaphorical dirt. "And you couldn't be more wrong, even if you tried, Kriss."
His phone vibrated in his shorts pocket just as he reached for Kristen's hand, and he flinched, recalling all at once that he'd promised Jas they'd watch movies together that evening. Pulling the device from his pocket, he squinted past the web of cracks to make out a text from Marnie.
Shane, honey — Jas has already started making a trough of popcorn using that air popper Jodi let her borrow. Will you be home soon? I know you're busy with your little girlfriend and all. ;)
Shane groaned, eyeing the time above the texting application. He'd told Jas he'd be back by 4 pm and was already late.
Please don't send me a winking emote ever again. I'm leaving now. Be there in 15.
Slipping the phone back into his pocket, he regarded Kristen apologetically. "I gotta go."
"I know," she replied, standing as he did. Before he could react, she pulled him into another embrace, pressing her face to the column of his throat, crushing his ribs with the force of her well-toned arms. He slipped his loosely around her hips in return, fingers lightly stroking the strip of skin exposed between her shirt and jeans, wondering how fucked he truly was because he already missed her.

NJPW G1 Climax 33 Preview
Tumblr media
Its that special time of the year....no not the return of The Hot Tag, but this years NJPW G1 Climax 33 is nearly upon us. This years tournament is the biggest ever with 4 groups in action showcasing 32 competitors from not only NJPW but also other companies talent too thankfully.
Lets dive into the groups separately and give a quick over view of what to expect and lay some predictions out there
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A BLOCK
SANADA
Chase Owens
Hikuleo
Ren Narita
Shota Umino
Yota Tsuji
Gabe Kidd
Kaito Kiyomiya
What's being look at as the young boy group with Sanada and Owens, with Sanada being the obvious favourite as reigning IWGP World Heavyweight champion. Its rare the world champion goes undefeated throughout the tournament and usually drops a match or two to setup future title matches before the January 4th Dome show. Id expect the key names looking to get that role will be the likes of Kiyomiya, Tsuji and maybe even Narita.
Kiyomiya should be one of the breakouts of this years G1, the current Pro Wrestling NOAH star has had some exposure in NJPW after feuding with Okada and will hope to follow in the footsteps of fellow NOAH star Katsuhiko Nakajima in the 2016 G1 Climax, who had some superb matches that year.
Also in this group is the newly announced group of the Reiwa Three Musketeers, in Umino, Tsuji and Narita. The Three Musketeers stable name has been used previously in the company with the last trio being that of Shinsuke Nakamura, Katsuyori Shibata and Hiroshi Tanahashi, its a very valuable name for the promotion to hand out and is a sign of how talented they see the current trio both the current scene as well as the future of NJPW. Will be VERY interesting in seeing their bouts against each other which I imagine will start out harmless and competitive, but will quickly descend into something heated when they realise the pecking order could be set here for how each guy is seen by the NJPW audiences for a long time. Alot of depth story wise here as well as potential for great matches, will be a big talking point for the Japanese media during and after the tournament as well.
Have to go for a Sanada win, with im guessing Tsuji coming in second place only slight infront of Kiyomiya.
B BLOCK
Kazuchika Okada
YOSHI-HASHI
Taichi
KENTA
Great-O-Khan
Will Ospreay
Tanga Loa
El Phantasmo
I really hope this group turns into a sprint between Okada and Ospreay, pretty sure they have 2 matches each following their one on one match on July 27th. Imagine they go the time limit versus each other and the raised importance of those final matches will be immense. Tanga Loa and El Phantasmo for Ospreay and KENTA then Tanga Loa for Okada, not the hardest bouts but the atmosphere for near falls will be superb.
I like O-Khan but he isnt in the league of the main two guys and their booking is vital for NJPW's future shows. Okada over Ospreay in the standings.
C BLOCK
David Finlay
Tomohiro Ishii
EVIL
Tama Tonga
Shingo Takagi
Aaron Henare
Eddie Kingston
Mikey Nicholls
Even though this group features one of my all-time favourites in Shingo, I really cant get into the feel of it overall. It feels nasty to say its alot of nearly but not quite guys if that makes sense, hopefully they can change that in the future but so far its been alot of promise and the start of something then it all slowed down (Tonga, EVIL) .
Its really nice to see Eddie getting his chance in his dream environment, he must be so happy every morning he opens his eyes in Japan then at the same time falls asleep wondering 'what if' the likes of Tenzan/Kojima/Honma/Nagata were still in the running so he could bang with them nightly.
Has to be between Finlay and Shingo for the leadership, with the need for the Bullet Club leader to look strong winning out, Ishii, EVIL and Tama all running close.
D BLOCK
Hiroshi Tanahashi
Tetsuya Naito
Hirooki Goto
Zack Sabre Jr.
Toru Yano
Jeff Cobb
Shane Haste
Alex Coughlin
Another strange feeling group and ive no idea why, well I do alittle but more on that latter.
The Ace continues on and wont be stopped by age or his knees looking like they explode most nights lol Every year I feel its a year too far for him he goes deep in the running to prove me wrong, and I love him for it even more than normal. I see him getting the wins this year but dropping the key matches to who I think will be the key three in this group.
Those three being Naito, ZSJ and Cobb, Jeff may surprise people with the pick but I see them building him up for the United Empire so that Ospreay can be in the position to go back for the world title and Cobb can be the next era for the US belt. Naito and ZSJ are the constants over the past few years, be it in the G1 or the New Japan cup, consistency and the big scalps and I dont see that altering anytime soon.
In terms of a winner Id lean on ZSJ for the upset over Naito, who also really needs the win after the Sanada turn. Some big booking needed by NJPW in making guys as well as not cooling the others down too far, it really is the toughest booking gig of the year.
Quarter Finals - August 10th
Sanada vs Shingo
Okada vs Naito
Finlay vs Ospreay
ZSJ vs Tsuji
Semi Finals - August 12th
Sanada vs Okada
Ospreay vs Tsuji
Finals - August 13th
Okada vs Ospreay
Winner of the G1 Climax 33 - Will Ospreay
What better way to build the tournament than by having the two guys sprinting through their group, who go to a draw on the way, have to finally settle that score in the final with the guy who finished second taking the crown overall.
The knockouts should be awesome setting up multiple future bouts such as Okada getting a title match after beating Sanada in the semis, can he win the title before the actual winner gets his shot against Sanada his-self setting up another match between Okada/Ospreay at the Dome on January 4th?
To conclude I think as normal this tournament will be great and will have tons of superb matches and moments, the bigger issue for me is that bigger numbers dont always mean better tournaments. Some of the groups feel like they have too much filler with ALOT of younger guys getting the nod and entrance. Its great for them to gain the experience this provides but for me im a sucker for the 2 group concept 20 guys maximum. This needs to be treated as the most superior tournament wrestling has to offer, the younger wrestlers need to prove theirselves more before gaining access.
Why not develop a young lions tournament for guys under a certain age with the winner taking a spot in the tournament wit the others missing out, letting them stew and develop to be better for next year where they could win the thing or even become so much better they are offered a spot on merit instead?
That aside im pumped as normal for this and will always be ready to see who Yano can tie up in duct tape up the aisle and beat :) Always a gut punch knowing we arent getting Yano/Omega again
Enjoy folks
Bye for now
Andy

Stardew Raeyna:
Sunday, Winter 21, Year 1
I am at seven hearts with Sebastian.
Just the thought of him makes everything better.
He works very hard despite his environment.
It’s clear that he and his mother are close, but it seems Demetrius is always shining the spotlight on Maru.
I like Maru a lot, I think she’s brilliant, and I hope we even become closer friends.
But I love Sebastian, and I want to marry him.
The only way to make that happen is to do my best to sincerely befriend every member of the town.
In my efforts to do so, Alex has been trashing Sebastian, and Shane has been trying to pressure me into changing my mind about Sebastian.
That’s not going to happen.
Shane is terribly mean to me.
So is Sam, who is clearly jealous.
The other day, I came to Sam’s house to see Sebastian.
Sam tried to hand me food in his kitchen, but he dropped it.
When Jodi came in to see what happened, Sam placed the blame on me.
After I made it to Sam’s room, Sebastian was clearly irritated that Sam had used me, and told me it was the same for him all the time.
We walked to the Night Market together.
He told me he wanted me to start profiting from my farm so we could get married one day.
He even promised to keep me safe on his bike one day.
The best I can do is trust he will watch over me even when other people take advantage of my kindness and use it to get closer to me.
He made it clear tonight while he vaped and I fished that he loves me for who I am, exactly as I am.
I won’t change my mind.
I want everything I do to be for our future, which includes saving the town.
Maybe if I get even closer to Demetrius and Maru, Demetrius will be kinder to Sebastian.

Paranormal Activity 4-6: Thoughts
Paranormal Activity 4:
Paranormal Activity 4 is where the original novelty of the series kinda begins to wain off a bit and it becomes very, oddly conveluted. The film for one, isn't really scary, any semblence of the sound design from the prior films that really allowed for tense moments to, feel tense is just gona. I find it interesting that the addition of sound, air, noise in silence so to speak is more horrifying than, the lack of iot approach taken here. The characters are, fine, I like Alex and Ben enough but they ain't Dennis or Micah. Here more than ever the situation seems very, spontaneous and random. I fail to understand why Hunter was, adopted, just for a second child to regather him for the coven. especially when the film begins stating their whereabouts are unknown. The Kinect thing was always a bit odd but I really do think it had very missed potential. I only noticed Tobey once, I just felt there was some missed potential even if it was just a bizarre little tie in (Dragula goes hard tho props to that being the first, incorperation of literally any song in the series) I do find it very funny that Katie has decided her signature move is just a quick neck snap, nice callback to the best part of 2 being, Daniel's death.
5/10
Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones
I don't follow the fandom, so, I'm really unsure where people sit on this one in particular. It's not scary that's for certain and seems to be where most people dropped off the boat in fairness. It's kind of a guilty pleasure film for me though, however only under the circumstance that I view it as a comedy as supposed to a horror film. I enjoy the switch up culturally from, white ass Americans to Mexicans, it allows for a different feel to the film from the rest and having it be a bit more primative, allows this to be the first purely handheld film of the franchise which, can be disorienting but strurally, again, it's different. They have a few still moments but I appreciate the constant action, it allows for a different kind of tension because the film keeps ramping up and giving smaller more channeled scares as supposed to, a lot of nothing like in 4. Jesse and Hector as protagonists, are very randomly fucked with like the family prior however they do have some genuine bro chemistry that's nice to see. I guess I like sarcasm with my Paranormal Activity. (I blame Shane Madej) It's also nice to see the posession of a character, that isn't just like Katie who gets real tired and zoned out, and it comes with some perks, the ghost (I don't believe it's Tobey this time) initially seeming like a positive only to lead to the film getting darker and darker allowed for really solid pacing. I guess my biggest irk is the ending. On an initial watch like, yeah it's neat and makes you go 'Wait what? Huh???' But I don't see the purpose of it. There were real stretches to get it to connect with the others and I don't think it needed to, it could have just been a story about another family getting ruined by the Coven. Watch it as a comedy and this one's kinda crazy.
6/10
Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension
I believe the second you can see the ghost is, the second the original concept is firmly dead. It seems The Marked Ones really wanted to be different but this one really fell back in to, the security of the original formula but with none of the tension. It tried to have the creepy girl idea from 3, an extension of the Kinect idea without the marketing gimmick from 4, the slow posession of someone from Marked Ones and, literally The Exorcist, and of course brought back the original nightly forumal of 1. A film attempting to be the culmination of everythjing before can sometimes work, however it doesn't here. It's just got no substance and tries to be too much. I believe focusing on the idea of the tapes revealing the future and focusing on that would have been a good shot, but it felt like such a muddled mess I genuinely have very little to say on it. Every prior fiml, does everything this does, a little bit better. I cannot think of a single thing I really liked abou it...Maybe I suppose, the visual effects given it has the most out of all the films and I wanna give it something.
3/10
I am not done with this franchise just yet, there is of course one more film: Next of Kin and I will be watching that and because I'm a little silly, will also Watch Paranormal Activity: Tokyo Night. I believe it's just a Japanese remake however I do enjoy me some Japanese Horror so, hopefully it will be a nice palette cleanser afer Next of Kin.

Hurricanes and How They Are Pronounced
Tumblr media
The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration releases its planned hurricane names years in advance, and includes a pronunciation guide for each name. An excerpt from NOAA's 2026 Atlantic Basin Storm Name Pronunciations:
Arthur AR-thur Bertha BUR-thuh Cristobal krees-TOH-bahl Dolly DAH-lee Edouard eh-DWARD Fay fay
Whenever I see a list like this, I naturally wonder what a neural net might make of it. I'm specifically interested in the larger neural nets I've been using lately, like the GPT-3 variants, which have encountered lots of names during their internet training yet are known to produce absolutely cursed attempts at pronunciation guides.
The largest GPT-3 variant, DaVinci, was pretty good at identifying common names and providing pronunciation guides that are not too far off from how I myself would say them. Although I definitely say this one differently:
Christopher kry-STOP-oh-fuhr
But things did get stranger when I gave GPT-3 dates farther in the future. I know it's not actually predicting that the already tenuous link between spelling and pronunciation in English is going to do some pretty extreme things in the next 50 years, but that's sure what it looks like:
2051 Harry HARR-held Andrew an-DREE-uhn Lisa LISS-uh Mark mark George jar-ZHAY
2070 Wanda way-DAHN-uh Alfred im-THOHN Deirdre ED-reel Jason JAY-dree Marissa mrees-TVR-uhf Sandrina sa-NREE-tuuh Scott steed-rer Scott wess-tra
2071 Arnold ah-NAWR-dell Georgia zheh-DRO-luh Howard huh-WAR-dee Nelson NEH-suh-lihn Serena say-RUH-nuh Victor VIK-suht
I also prompted the smallest GPT-3 variant, Ada, with the list of officially planned NOAA hurricane names and pronunciations. I would definitely need most of these spelled out for me the first time I heard them.
Alan AR-toh-LAY Christine CREE-chuh-NAH Elena anda-DAW Esther ex-THAH-ah Michael MIE-le-no Ginger LEEK-yuh Darrell jlear-DAHR Gregory GREGORY Alex MDL-aye Jess MEY-sern Robert REH-sch-ei Santiago SAN-tih-uh HEAT-TAY Varsity EBAY David EBOY Joe joh-LOHS-dah Wendy lich-WAEH Oliver ORL-arkus John john-FLAN-uh John john-SPLIN-er-ahnt
I was curious, so I appended a few other names to the end of the list of hurricanes so Ada could provide me a pronunciation guide. I guess I'll be introducing myself differently from now on.
Janelle JEE-ree-uhn Shane shaan
Artificial AYR-tah-zhoo Intelligence MIL-teer-uhn
Benedict bon-TEE-ass Cumberbatch cHL-barck-Christ
Bilbo BLA-buh Baggins BAL-gin
Scrooge skhuh-RAK-tur-ee McDuck moos-DUCK
Rumplestiltskin uh-buh-THEEKS
Before I discovered I could get GPT-3 DaVinci to vary its pronunciation guides by simply advancing the date, I experimented with some other prompts. One of the more successful experiments was the one in which I told it that the storms had grown ever more intense, so the names had to grow more epic to match. hi mousey!! been a while since I sent you an ask
I was putting on my make up earlier today and an idea came to mind, I need to know your opinion on this
how do you think the sdv + sve bachelors would react to a farmer who asks to do their make up? which ones do you think refuse? which ones ask before the farmer does, "can you do it?"? and which ones just accept?
hope you have a great day <3
Hope you have a good day too, dear anon, and thanks for the ask! ☺️❤️
SDV and SVE bachelors react to the Farmer who asks to do their makeup:
Shane:
"Babe, I don't know anything about this."
Still, Shane tries to try to give them a makeup so they don't get upset.
Unfortunately, it didn't work very well.
But he does get a funny little face made of mascara on Farmer's cheek, heh.
Next time, however, he'll refuse, as he'll only make it worse.
Well, at least Shane and Farmer got a funny little memory.
Elliott:
Surprisingly, Elliott agrees right away.
And what's more surprising is that he manages to help Farmer with the make-up very well.
Everything is precise, neat and harmonious, like wow!
Surely our long-haired writer hasn't been a stylist before?
Elliott is happy to do Farmer's make up and tells them not to hesitate to ask him for help in the future.
Harvey:
"Oh, make-up? I'm sorry, my dear, but I don't think I can..."
Harvey does agree to help, though he doesn't count on success.
Totally calm when applying mascara to Farmer, but accidentally paints their cheek with mascara anyway.
On the third or fourth attempt, the doctor manages to give Farmer a simple and quite passable make-up.
Hey, a reason to be proud, he helped his loved one!
Sam:
Hell yeah, Sammy can do quite good make-up! A little different, though.
The young musician has been thinking about make-up for his music band for a long time, so he's had time to practice.
Even though Farmer needs a light, simple ("and boring" as Sam described it) make-up, he can still help them.
And will do very well with mascara and foundation.
"You sure you don't want cool make-up like metal bands? Eh, okay..."
Sebastian:
Sebastian definitely uses black eyeliner (my headcanon, you can't change my mind).
At times our dear emo was too lazy to do his own eyeliner, so will ask Farmer for help first. "Hon, can you help with the eyes please?"
Doesn't know much about the rest of make-up products, but if you need to emphasise your eyes, Sebby will never refuse a request.
And he'll ask for it himself if Farmer's okay with it as well.
Alex:
What make-up? He's not a girl!
To be honest, Alex has only had a couple of make-ups, which are usually done by gridball fans, and, well, that's basically it.
So if Farmer's going to the stadium, then Alex can help with cool sport fan make-up.
If it's just some regular make-up, then no, sorry. He can't do it.
He could try, but he'd end up with paint all over their face. Oh well, at least he tried.
Victor:
"Makeup? Oh, I've never done it, but my mom does her own makeup every day. Maybe she could help you?"
If Farmer insists on getting help from Victor specifically, he will politely decline.
He'd be interested in the idea, though, and a little later he'd watch tutorials on his laptop or ask Olivia.
The next time Victor offered to help Farmer with their makeup, wanting to practice.
"I thought it sounded interesting. Besides, we'll have one more common interest."
Magnus Rasmodius:
"Only with magic can I fulfil your request."
For Magnus, magic is almost the solution to all problems. He thinks magic will help here, too....
With his hands? Sorry, Farmer. A wizard certainly can't do your make up by hands. Only with a spell.
Well, he still has to remember the spell.....
Hold on, he should ask Camilla, she's definitely using that kind of spell.
Lance:
Another clever mage from the magical society where agree to help Farmer with the help of his magic.
He also watches his appearance and sometimes uses spells, but he doesn't do his own makeup and tries to take care of himself without cosmetics.
How then he knows the spells of instant perfect makeup is a mystery.
A snap of his fingers and in a second, he has perfect makeup on Farmer's face.
Though in the future he may learn a couple of basics on how to do Farmer's makeup without magic. Just because the process itself is kinda interesting.

Families reactions for bachelorettes and bachelors expecting a baby? (。◕‿‿◕。) Who would be extatic about becoming grandparent/auntie and so on, and who'd be scared of new role?
First off, I am SO DANG SORRY for how long it took me to answer this.  Seriously, this ask has been in my inbox for months (along with another one that I SWEAR I’ll get to!  I’m sorry!).  Long asks like these make my brain seize up and it takes awhile to kick my brain in the pants and reboot it.  I tried to keep all responses vague in terms of spouse (for male or female partner) as well as vague in terms of pregnancy versus adoption.  Enjoy!
Alex - Evelyn and George never thought they’d see the day that they would become great-grandparents.  It seemed so far-fetched that they’d never really considered it as an option, not even when Alex got married.  It wasn’t until they actually heard Alex announce that he was going to be a father that the reality set in.  Evelyn was so overjoyed she burst into tears, beckoning Alex over to her so she could squeeze him as hard as her frail arms possibly could.  George was happy, of course, but more than anything he was proud.  Not only proud of Alex and what a wonderful father he would be, but admittedly proud of himself for living so full a life that he lived long enough to see himself become a great-grandfather.
Sam - Jodi has been excited about the prospect of having grandchildren ever since Sam was born.  Having a family and children of her own is rewarding, she can’t deny that, but there’s something different about grandkids.  She saw the way her own parents interacted with Sam and later Vincent, and saw a far more carefree relationship.  Grandparents don’t have to be disciplinarians, they don’t have to enforce strict bedtimes or limit sugar intake, they don’t have to clean up after messes or potty train.  Jodi loves being a mother when it comes to interacting with her children, it’s everything else that gets overwhelming.  Jodi definitely shrieks in excitement when Sam announces that he’s going to be a father.  Kent, usually a quiet and stoic man, will struggle to hold back his emotions as he congratulates his son.  It isn’t until later when he has a moment alone that he properly processes the news and finally allows himself to feel properly excited about it.  So much of his own children’s lives was missed by him, he hopes he can be a more present in the life of his grandchild.  And Vincent… well, Vincent is just tickled by the idea that he’ll be an uncle before he even turns 10 and will insist that everyone start calling him “Uncle Vincent” before the baby even arrives.
Seb - Robin has NO CHILL when it comes to Seb announcing that he’s going to be a father.  For years Robin worried about Seb, concerned that he would be a hermit forever and would never live a life outside of the basement.  Seeing Seb flourish the way he has and meet someone new was rewarding enough and even once Seb was in a relationship, Robin wasn’t sure if children were ever on his radar.  He didn’t seem like he wanted kids in his life and Robin still would have been happy for him even if he never pursued having children… at least that’s what she thought until the moment Seb announced he was going to be a father.  Full-on freakout on Robin’s part.  Demetrius is outwardly proud of Sebastian and congratulates him, but a part of Demetrius is worried.  His relationship as a father figure to Sebastian never really worked out and he wonders what his place will be in the life of Sebastian’s child and whether he will be treated as a grandfather or not.  Maru is SO excited to become an auntie, already she starts thinking of all the cool and fun things she wants to do with her niece/nephew.  She’s bound and determined to be the stereotypical “fun aunt”.
Shane - Marnie has spent most of her life worrying about Shane for various reasons; worried about his alcohol dependence, worried about his depression, worried about his loneliness, worried about his future.  When Shane finally does meet someone, Marnie is ecstatic.  Of course someone new will never fix a person in itself, having a partner at least helps to motivate Shane to get his life on the right track.  Marnie is absolutely thrilled when Shane announces he’s going to be a father and this is one area where she’s not worried one bit.  She’s seen how he is with Jas and what a wonderful father figure he’s been to her, Marnie’s just happy that he’ll have the chance to have this experience from the beginning.  As for Jas, she couldn’t be happier.  It’s always been a bit lonely for her, it’s been tough for her to find her place in the family dynamic.  But with Shane getting married and now a new baby arriving, Jas finally feels like she’s settling into a family and becoming part of something she’s always wanted.
Abigail - Caroline and Pierre are so proud of the woman that Abi has grown into.  Yes, they had their disagreements as Abi was growing up and even into her young adulthood, but those were all overcome once Abi started to make a life for herself.  It was worrisome to both Caroline and Pierre when Abi was so carefree and didn’t have a direction she wanted to go in life, it seemed like the last thing in life she wanted was to settle down and live a domestic life.  Apparently all Abi needed was to find the right person to complement her and everything fell into place.  Abi is still the somewhat rebellious girl she had been and there’s still many things Pierre and Caroline will never understand about her, but it at least brings them comfort to see her happy.  When she announces that she’s going to be a mother, Pierre and Caroline are relieved and overjoyed.  It was never anything they thought would happen to them when their only child was so outwardly against domesticity, but they’re so happy that she found a way to live that life and still be happy.
Emily - When Emily announces that she is going to be a mother, Haley literally SHRIEKS in excitement.  At this point in her life Haley might not be ready for a baby, but that doesn’t mean she’s not completely excited to have one in her life.  What follows is the biggest shopping trip of Haley’s life, she finds herself buying more in preparation for the new baby than even Emily does.  No niece or nephew of Haley’s will go unspoiled.  She can’t wait to be the cool aunt.
Haley - It’s strange for Emily when she hears that Haley will be a mother.  Most of Emily’s life was spent caring for Haley more as her mother than as her sister, it isn’t until recently that they’ve been able to find a happy place in their relationship where Emily can finally feel like a sister.  Now the dynamic is changing once again and Emily feels more like a grandmother than an auntie, the connection to Haley and her child is that strong.  Somehow calling herself an aunt just doesn’t seem powerful enough, it doesn’t seem worthy enough.  Emily knows she will be more than just an aunt to Haley’s child and has ever intention of treating her niece or nephew the way any grandmother would.
Maru - Robin and Demetrius beam with pride when Maru announced that she’s going to be a mother.  While Demetrius always focused more on Maru’s success in her studies and her career, Robin always worried in the back of her mind if this measure of success was the only one Maru would cling to.  Robin hoped that Maru would learn that her success could be measured just as much by her personal relationships and family life and that Maru was smart enough and driven enough to have it all.  Seeing Maru in a happy relationship and hearing the news that she’s starting a family is a relief to Robin to see that she never devalued having a family and it’s a relief to Demetrius to see that his motivated daughter is living a full life.  Sebastian isn’t outwardly excited about the prospect of being an uncle, then again there isn’t much he’s outwardly excited about.  Inwardly, though, he’s strangely looking forward to being an uncle.  Yes, it will be awkward and he’s certainly never been a fan of babies or even small children, but somehow the idea of playing Solarian Chronicles with his niece or nephew many years from now is a vision he can’t stop seeing and enough to get him actually excited.
Penny - Pam knows how long Penny has waited for this moment and it’s for that reason that Pam is actually quite worried for her.  Pam knows how much the idea of being a wife and mother has been glorified in Penny’s mind but Pam understands from experience just how difficult parenting can really be.  It’s hard to truly make someone understand just how hard parenting can be and that it’s not the beautiful, rewarding experience it can sometimes be painted as.  Parenting can be soul-crushing, it can be exhausting, it can be overwhelming, and Pam worries that Penny might not be ready for that aspect of it.  Of course Pam is thrilled at the news that she’ll be a grandmother, but a part of her is also worried about what kind of grandmother she’ll be.  She fully acknowledges that she wasn’t exactly the best mother in the world and that somehow Penny turned out okay in spite of that.  Being told that she’ll be a grandmother gives Pam some relief that maybe she’ll get a second chance… she just hopes she won’t screw it up.

reserved farmer headcanons + meeting the bachelors for the first time!
wanted to make some generally reserved farmer headcanons to kick off this blog and bc i see a lot of very friendly farmers out there and i... am not one of them LMAO
additionally, there's reference to a supposed volatile relationship with a (former?) loved one (projection time!)
also i forgot to open my askbox bc idk how to tumblr ?? i think it's open now (i hope).
tw: drinking and alcoholism, references to past trauma, one Bad Word (sh^t!)
when you first meet everyone, it's a quiet greeting and maybe a witty remark, but you don't stay for any chit-chat
close-lipped smiles are your signature move, along with the Man Nod whenever you run into someone
you are, of course, a nice and courteous person but you don't feel the need to say hello to everyone every damn time you pass by them because, really, you're too busy rushing to Pierre's for some seeds or lugging around foraged beach stuff
okay, maybe some of them think you're a little cold and an introvert who has... problems
but you're not! you are a strong and emotionally stable farmer who gets Shit Done and prefers to observe over participate and think over talk!
mayor lewis is extremely puzzled and almost mistakes you for someone else-- it's been over a decade and people change too much, too soon. he makes a remark about a wishing well your grandfather had built long ago (remember the well? how you fell in it that one time?) and you nod along politely (i didn't fall, i climbed in because i desperately needed my wish to come true)
it's nice to meet people who aren't as temperemental as the tides. maybe, for once, you could have a proper relationship with someone.
alex
easily the most annoying and extroverted person in town what with his obsession with sports and loud, brash personality but you two get along fabulously because you had that same passion for gridball in college before you were too busy being a corporate slave
he's a little surprised that you sit next to him at the saloon but he goes along easily and the conversation flows between the two of you easily, ranging from future plans (thinking of going pro... think i'll make it?) to the weather without sounding like you're making fake smalltalk (i wanted to play pro, too, and here i am now. if you really want it, you'll have to leave this all behind)
there's something genuine about him that's intriguing and it leaves you wanting to find out and see what the real alex is like inside because you can see through that wall he's made
and there's something enigmatic about you, who is reserved and quiet and seems to be a simple open book, when in fact, you are a very attractive onion with many, many layers
sam
you think he's immature. a wildchild, a manchild, a wildmanchild, really. sam, on the other hand, is drawn in by your calmness and how in-control you appear to be-- when you offer to play a game of pool when sebastian doesn't show up, he's delighted at the opportunity to know you better
okay, so he is immature and a wildmanchild but there is a softness in him that surprises you every time he shows it-- which is frequently around you
he has a soft smile to counteract his proud one and he's so in awe of how you get so much stuff done every day (i don't know how you do it, that's gotta be tough), every week, and every month (you'd like the responsibility, i think. to me, it's one big project i need to finish)
he has instant crush on you because you're so cool even though your line of profession really doesn't evoke much awe. i mean, you're  attractive, you are so in control of your life, and you have a really cute smile whenever he compliments you-- how could he not?
shane
bit bold of you to sit next to him at the saloon because every knows he's can be a real asshole, but he glances at you with a hint of awe and more than a hint of annoyance. you elect to ignore this and choose to order a whisky on the rocks (if you don't drink, call it apple juice)
whisky: shane's a touch impressed because you look like a lightweight. well, it's nice that someone can hold their liquor. he makes a remark about it (planning on getting drunk, huh?) and you raise a brow at him, looking a little haughty and tell him that it's your drink for the week. he's annoyed at your remark and starts an argument that surprisingly, settles down into a civil conversation
apple juice: he snorts at that and makes a remark about meeting penny for your lessons the next day. you play along and sip at your drink, making witty remarks (thank yoba for hangovers. it's the non-drinker's edge, really. just like not having liver failure). he's not sure if he should be annoyed or impressed at your cool-as-a-cucumber personality, not sure if it's too big city or too closed-off
you offer to buy him a pizza if you can take a away his beer-- at any rate, he looks like he'll end up with liver failure the way he's going. shane aquiesces and devours the entire pizza. your conversation is slow and punctuated with his loud chewing but you're pleasantly suprised that he's quite smart and well-read about whatever you're interested in
the fourth time you sit next to him, he turns down your pizza and doesn't say a word. neither do you and it's almost like it's back to square one until you realize that he hasn't made a single salty remark about anything. you decide to try again the day after tomorrow-- nothing comes too quickly to people like you and shane.
sebastian
it was the necklace you wore that caught his eye. a shining teardrop stone hanging off a gleaming silver chain. he had spoken before he could stop himself and watched as you smiled and told him he was right-- it is supposed to be a Yeti's tear.
you're pleased to meet someone who is also a homebody and a touch more reserved than a lot of other people in town. he's easy to get along with (oh, you're kidding, you really have the signed edition?) and he's got pretty good taste when it comes to literature-- after all, who can refuse a good sci-fi book? (of course i do, i'm dedicated fan)
oddly enough, your conversation is quick and eager and not all reserved. instead of the companionable silence everyone assumes you two to have, you two nearly talk over each other because you finally have someone to complain to about everyone's over-friendliness and he finally has someone who understands what it's like to be trapped in a small world
you tease him about the corporate rat race and he fires back at you about being a part of it. you like sebastian and he likes you-- it's as simple as that.
elliot
he had heard of you through leah who had heard of you through emily who had heard of you through gus who had heard of you from lewis. it was a long grapevine and he's not sure how much of the truth was preserved and it's almost a relief to meet you because, to be frank, he's tired of being the town's newcomer.
first-- you're not peppy and overly cheerful at all. second, you are definitely not hot-tempered. and third, there's something so fascinating about you, something hidden under your calm, pragmatic character. he finds a kindred spirit in you, save for the flowery words and, admittedly, the vanity.
you're amused to meet a writer living on the beach. the cabin was built by one of your grandfather's old friends, a rather surly man who had taken a liking to you when you were much younger. while the hut is in no way fancy, you can't help but consider how pretentious and, contrastingly, humble the writer must be. pretentious in such a way that he thinks living in a sandy, damp shack is a way to beat writer's block (it's odd, it's rarely a choice people make) and humble in such a way that he accepts and bears with living in a worn house with little complaint (it's admirable, if not a little silly!)
you find yourself in his company late at night when you can't sleep and it's so easy to open up to him because he's kind, he listens, and most importantly, he's not embarassed to admit he's got faults, at least to you. you let him see past your collected facade and into your cracked heart far sooner than you think and elliot doesn't mind at all
harvey
you might be the most mysterious person in town simply because of the way you present yourself. he finds himself always stuttering a little whenever you're around because of the way you watch him, set in a relaxed stance, your gaze flat and cool. later, he realizes that it's your resting face. he wonders about what you'd look like if you smiled-- really smiled
he's touched at the fact that you buy him coffee whenever he had to patch you up-- which is frequently, given your liking for the mines. you're adorable when he gives you general anesthesia. he had run out of local anesthesia and you needed a fair amount of stitches and though you told him that you have a high pain tolerance (stitches are far more painful than you think. i really don't want to put you through that), he insisted and you let him (fine, fine. get on with it, doctor). you had let out several inappropriate jokes under anesthesia and your cheeks had hurt from laughing non-stop
harvey's entranced. there's no other way to put it-- he's bewitched by your bright character hiding under that collected facade. he never pries for your secrets because he's got secrets, too. you like harvey because he's sweet and compassionate and even though he has to put up a firm, professional affectation, he wears his heart on his sleeve.
you see him as a friend at first, all platonic and it seems to be the end of it. but one day, as you hand him a coffee, he laughs and smiles and hands you a coffee just the way you like it. you're falling for him so hard and fast you think someone's put a spell on you that makes you notice the minute expressions on his face and mull over the way he talks to you. you're in love with him-- you can only hope he feels the same way too
