I saw this and uh decided to see which one matches all the TMF characters
(CW for occasional mention of suggestive content cuz ao3 is weird as hell)
Drew - pining (so true) - with a polyamorous relationship (this is just a part of tmf rp blog lore)
Jake - canon compliant - with plot twists
Hailey - childhood friends - with an ambiguous/open ending
Zander: friends to lovers - with a love triangle (HELP ITS LITERALLY. CWNON SHIDNDW)
Milly: enemies to lovers - with characters as project partners
Luke: hurt/comfort - with sharing a bed (Erm......)
Sean: smut (ewwwwww) - with a lot of flirting (I don't like this I don't like this)
Daisy: childhood friends (does she even have them?) - with coming of age
Liam: slow burn - with a/b/o dynamic (what does this mean)
Henry: angst (ouch) - with coming of age
Zoey: canon compliant - with characters who are bad at feelings (so true actually)
Lia: roommates - with a threesome (shut up they're minorssss and I know minors can do "it" but like c'mon)
Stacy: roommates - with dom/sub undertones (I'm glad I don't go much on ao3 tbh)
Sadie: childhood friends - with characters as project partners
Elliot: fluff - with kink discovery (wtf)

Steven James Hyde (born November 28, 1959), the Familial Lore.
WB's family hails from Detroit. His paternal grandmother Ruby was born and raised in Detroit, but his paternal grandfather William "Willie" abruptly moved to Detroit at thirteen after his family lost everything in the Tulsa race riots.
WB is the eldest of two children. He grew up close to his brother Henry. They never had much, but they made it work. His dad typically worked for GM, but he and Ruby ran a little music shop and jazz club on the side.
By the late 50s, WB had just lost his first wife Marion in a car crash, and had a young daughter to raise on his own (Angie). He was around during the founding of Motown Records, and had to live in Chicago for a bit to promote the new record label, with his best friends Francis "French" Owens and Jerome Clark. There he met Edna, and they had a relationship for a bit, but Edna's brother Tag was a massive racist. So they broke it off, but not before conceiving Hyde.
Edna had also met Bud for the first time at around the same time, but didn't become romantic with him until a bit later, after WB left the picture. She masqueraded Hyde as Bud's (Bud knows, too) to placate her racist brother, and they moved to Point Place, where Bud was born and raised (on a literal pig farm).
*****
His mom's family is peppered with tragedy. Edna O'Brien was born to teenage parents in northern Appalachia/southwestern Pennsylvania, and she was initially raised with love and care by her paternal grandparents, until her parents decided to take her back when she was four. By then, they had two more children, Terry "Tag" and Clifford "Cliff."*
They were never in the same place for long. Her dad Edwin took a bunch of menial jobs and was also a truck driver, and they often lived in rundown motels. Edwin consistently physically, verbally, and sexually abused his wife Daisy, and started to do the same to Edna when she was nine. A firmly closeted bisexual, he also sexually abused both Tag and Cliff.
When Edna was sixteen, it was clear that Edwin was beginning to groom their youngest sister Marlene, but Daisy refused to leave. So the kids split, with Marlene in tow, and tried to make things work. They lived in Chicago for a few years, and Edna dabbled in sex work, waitressing, bartending, and the drug trade to make ends meet. She also discovered a love for water skiing, and she spent summers in the Dells, which was dashed when she found out she was pregnant with Hyde. She was only partially relieved when Hyde was born, since he was white (so the masquerade described above worked), but he also emerged with her father's ice-blue eyes. The same eyes she despised.
*Cliff is the only good uncle in Hyde's life. He doesn't have much, but he tries to help out Hyde when he can.

Disturbing Media List
hii! i have been gathering a list on analog horror, args and just disturbing pieces of media in general for a while now and since i noe have a place to share it, i will be putting every single one on the list on here!! the only exceptions is if i haven't watched them!
if you are interested in any of these plz research triggers if neccessary this isn't a disturbing media list for no reason!
Analogue Horror
Analogue horror is a specific type of horror in an analogue setting, so tapes, found footage, radios, tv shows, etc.
Monument Mythos - Extremely good with a lot of hidden lore, but a very long series, Wendigoon made a good video on it here.
The Walten Files - Very good lore, based on the FNAF series, very high quality but some of the videos are quite long, also kind of an ARG if you like investigating things
Local 58 - One of the classic series that made analogue horror known 10/10 please watch this if you want to get into the genre
The Blue Channel - One of my favourites, probably the shortest series in the analogue horror part, not much lore (yet) but still an extremely good and original series
Mandela Catalog - I couldn't do this list and not put this series, its so well made and is extremely good at building tension and world building in general!
Andy Livengood - Not really a series, but still very good, also extremely short so if that sort of thing interests you, this is one of your best choices
ARG's
ARG, meaning alternate reality game, is a type of disturbing media that takes place through multiple places, so it could start on youtube, but then give a clue for a website, and then and Instagram, and it all slowly leads to the end! Very good for people that like investigating lore! This is probably the shortest catagory because I don't know that many ARGs
Poochee and Pansy - I'm including this in here just because it is the start of an ARG known as the Hunt for the Gangadiddle. The series on it's own is also very good, though it hasn't got much lore to it
The Hynagogic Archive - Personally one of my favourite disturbing pieces of media, constantly being updated, at least have a look at the website if you aren't interested in the lore
Weird Youtube Things
I didn't know how to explain this other than weird things on youtube, take that as you will, also I will only be adding my opinions on the ones I am really interested in/fixated on because there are SO MANY of these
Daisy Brown
hiimmarymary
Hi Walter, I got a new girlfriend!
Lasagna Cat
Too Many Cooks
Dining Room Or There Is Nothing
nana835763 - I love this person they have made SO MANY GOOD STAND ALONE VIDEOS I really recommend PokopokoShopping and PokopokoPikotan from them
Llamas with Hats
Possibly in Michigan
Smile Guide
alantutorials
Agamemnon Counterpart
Henry Eats
Shed 17
112Dirtbag
Don't Hug Me I'm Scared - Oh. My. God. PLEASE WATCH THIS SERIES IT'S SO GOOD I'VE BEEN FIXATED ON IT FOR 4 YEARS NOW I LOVE IT SO MUCH
Unedited Footage Of A Bear + This House Has People In It - These are grouped together because they are really similar and I really didn't want to talk about each of them but OH MY GOD these series are so good they would technically both count as ARG's but I put them in this section because they fit better
Thank you for reading all of this! I may update it if I find any more! If anyone wants a detailed summary and review of any of these please let me know and I will!

[mod Daisy Hazel creator of my Bendy oc Mellie Tanya here. I want to ask you how did you come up with the name Prowler and his design?]
Tumblr media
oh! this is a interesting one, i'll start off with his design, over the years on this blog prowler has gone through many, and i mean MANY redesigns over the years, sometimes one after another until i finally figured out an style, and just decided to design him of how henry will encounter him in the revamped storyline of how this au began, but as for how he truly looked? welp uh. not much changed really, he was just originally an Bendy with clothing like his trademark hoodie and what not but just without a bowtie, (i will not show what my first drawing of him is like, cause by god i cannot- eugh it is- so bad and cringy.) though, over the years that i’ve been in the fandom and overall in my AU i've simply changed how his outfit and appearance is portrayed until finally deciding recently to be like ya know what, i'll just start from scratch, draw him from when henry first encounters him in the story, and slowly move up from there until the poststudios design is finalized, like- building up to what he looks like in the blog overall (since this AU itself does take place after ink machine and now dark revival, the story itself i am referring too is simply the prologue to the AU and eventually the backstory to what happened in the ink machine story and hopefully the dark revival story... whenever i get to it ^^;;;;) As for how his name came to be? originally it was just Modern, Or Mod, but since one of my friends, @ask-modern-demon's own bendy already had that nickname, i was trying my best to figure out the perfect name for my bendy to have him stand out from most, and in comes my good friend @ask-soul-bendy who came up with the nickname of Prowler for my Bendy!, because he is in essence, An hunter. i did have a more indepth explaination about how prowler came to be and all but it is probably either buried in the blog, or deleted to not have so many posts, but there ya have it! most of prowler’s lore mainly comes from my own head but recently i’ve been slowly deciding to have it fit more into the actual canon of the game... to some degree, i have my wonderful friends to thank for that.  but yeah that’s pretty much it, tdlr; Prowler originally just started out as a modern bendy in a modern retelling of batim before the whole game was release before slowly and surely turning into the AU i cherish today, i have LOTS of lore about his demon soul and what not, but that is for another day, maybe. people are probably wondering in my older posts of how the hell were my characters able to do some of the crazy shit they’ve seen in a certain ongoing ARC and how they are able to transform and what not, that can be explained if someone asks the right question and what not. but yeah that’s pretty much it, sorry that this post is a bit too long, i love getting asks like this and overall just rambling about my characters, it’s refreshing. (also to all of you who are viewing this post go check out the two blogs i mentioned they are really nice people and amazing friends)

February 18 - 2024 Sunday
10:56pm
5/10
This morning I made hash browns with veggies and fish sticks with gravy for breakfast. I played some Helldivers which Wooley joined on for 1 round. Today was kind of a blur, maybe because mostly all I did was play that god forsaken game. At some point in the morning I stopped and switched to Spyro with Henry on the side. I made chicken stew with cumin for lunch and ate it while watching Bluey. Daisy offered to call while she drove back home so we did that while I Helldived. I started getting very frustrated with the game so I stopped and peaked at Cities for a tiny bit after she got home and took a nap. My timeline is messed up though because I made lunch AFTER her drive home. After Spyro she was ready to watch Bojack so we watched 3 while she cleaned and ate. Then we did our puzzles. I feel bad because she wanted to catch up on them but I had done them already. She screenshared Pinterest trying to find fursuit inspiration and I learned a lot of fursuit lore. In bed I played Kingdom Hearts and beat the Hades cup again to grind levels.
~~~
Today I felt VERY disconnected from things. I don't even know how to describe it, it's something I'm eager to talk to my therapist about tomorrow. It was an okay day though.
3 Things that made me happy today: -Playing Spyro and watching Henry -Helldivers with David and friend -Sharing sweet words with Daisy tonight
“If you don’t want them, that’s okay,” Dream rushes to say, when Tommy is silent, “it might be dumb, I just thought-”
“Shut the fuck up,” Tommy says, but there’s no heat behind the words, none at all, “this is- ‘Course I’ll take them. I mean- they’re nice, and all, or whatever. I like them.” Before he can stop himself, he’s clutching the flowers a little closer to his chest, shooting Dream a firm, cautiously thankful look. “Thanks. I guess.”
Dream laughs at the familiar tone, looking relieved. “You’re welcome, I guess,” he replies, and Tommy has to snicker, “I have plenty here anyway.”
“Can I come back and visit another time?” Tommy asks him. He has to part ways with Dream soon - the sun is getting higher, which means Henry will be out of bed looking for him before long, and the other server members will be waking. He doesn’t want any of them to catch him here, for both of their sakes. But he’s not done yet - Dream and him have a lot of fucking talking to do, and this isn’t the end. And, to his surprise, he realises he wants to come back, anyway. “In a few days, maybe? Or- I don’t really care, but I am going to steal more of your flowers.”
“You say steal like I didn’t give you those ones,” Dream points out, mirth in his eyes, “but yeah. Yeah, I’d like to see you again. Stop by whenever you want. I’m always happy to have visitors. ‘Specially nice ones.”
Tommy, unexpectedly warmed by this, kicks a tree in protest. “I’m not nice,” he complains, “I’m fierce. I’m ferocious. I could bite you. I am the SMP’s most dangerous member.”
“You’re cupping flowers in your hand and going home to make star shaped pancakes for Henry for breakfast ‘cause she likes space.” Dream laughs. “Sure, you’re ferocious.”
“I am-” Tommy chokes down death threats he doesn’t mean, scowling. “I am leaving, Dream. You dickhead.”
Dream wheezes. “Sure.”
“Don’t- I am leaving! I’m leaving right now, actually, and I’m going to take all the flowers in this field and replant them in my garden, bitch, just to annoy you.”
“You haven’t changed a bit,” Dream tells him, but it’s fond, almost brotherly in a way that’s agonising if he thinks about it too much. “I’ll see you around, Tommy. Thanks for visiting me.”
Tommy scoffs, but he’s smiling, however much he tries to hide it. “See you soon, Dream.”
And, when he walks away, he can hear Dream begin to hum. He doesn’t recognise the song, and the melody gets fainter until he can’t hear it at all, but it gets stuck in his head on his long walk back to his house, the birds chirping as he walks through the forest. Things feel... Not good, but better. The beginnings of better. He can take a deep breath again in a way he hasn’t been able to in a long time, and it feels better.
Maybe things are better.
“What is that?” Henry asks when she sees the flowers in his hand as he gets home, looking curious through her sleepiness. “Why are you smiling like that?”
Tommy looks down at the flowers, something stirring in his heart.
“Hope,” he says, “I think it’s hope, Henry.”
(Dream sits under the tree in his field, rests his head against it, and smiles faintly.)
(Hope. He’s missed this feeling.)
Note
In the daisy lore au, tommys child, or a kid related somehow to him, wasnt told that dream was a monster; like there was some level of humanization, yknow?
i cannot drill home enough how much i love writing c!tommy LMAO, this au with him is so fun - he’s had Character Maturation in this fbdkjk, but mostly he’s one of the only ones who’s started recovering properly from his past, which is why he doesn’t speak about c!dream like a monster.
also, i hc henry sees c!tommy as a mix between an older brother and dad, which is why she calls him tommy rather than dad,, it felt weird writing dad LMAOO
warnings: dehumanisation, trauma, PTSD, mentions of death / murder, mentions of fighting / violence, wounds / injuries, emotional distress, grief
“Tommyyyy?”
Tommy glances up from his half-built tower, momentarily distracted. “Yeah?”
It’s Henry: of course it is, he thinks, nobody else lives with them. She’s back from school, clutching her work in her arms and looking confused. Tommy jumps down from the tower, curses under his breath when he takes two hearts of damage, and heads to greet her, taking her work out of her arms.
“How was school?”
“What’s the SMP Monster? Why didn’t you ever tell me about it?”
The work almost slips from Tommy’s arms. For a second, he’s thrown back to cliff tops, to battering winds and dizzying heights and a familiar laugh tinged with an unhealthy amount of mania. He’s going to die, Tommy, a voice taunts him on the breeze in his garden, and Tommy can’t breathe, he’s going to die—
“‘Cause we were learning about the SMP story in class today, and everyone else seemed to know about the Monster.” Henry hops ahead of him, playing hopscotch a couple of feet in front, and misses the emotions that flicker over Tommy’s face, uncontrollable, exhausted. “And Daisy asked me why you hadn’t told me, so I told her I’d ask. So I did!”
The Monster. Fucking— Dream. Tommy doesn’t like to think about him. There’s a lot he doesn’t like to think about. Dream is half of those things. Forcing breath back into his lungs, he shrugs, though Henry can’t see it, and tries not to think too deeply about it.
“I don’t like the story,” he says, kicking a loose rock and watching it bounce away, “I think it’s stupid.”
Henry turns, stares at him wisely. “But aren’t you the Hero? That’s what Daisy said. She said Uncle George had told her
“The—” Tommy stutters, swallowing nausea. “I mean— Firstly, GeorgeNotFound is not your fucki- your uncle.”
“Daisy says he is!”
“Daisy says a lot,” Tommy mutters, vehemently wishing to talk about anything other than this, “but- Yeah. Yeah, obviously. Of course I’m a hero. The hero. Yeah. But the story— Some of the story isn’t right, not the way they tell it. I dunno. It feels weird to tell.”
“But can you tell me it?” Henry wheedles, seemingly oblivious to Tommy’s growing discomfort. “You’ll know it best, ‘cause you’re the hero. I wanna know all about it! The story says you fought the Monster.”
“...Yeah, I did.”
“The stories....” Henry’s voice drops to a whisper. “They say you killed the Monster.”
Tommy feels his stomach drop sharply. “Yeah,” he says, almost impossible, “I did.”
Henry stares at him with far too much awe for someone looking into the eyes of a murderer. Tommy’s hand squeezes into a fist, and he has to use an old therapy technique, has to use a breathe in for four and hold for four and release for four and repeat until breathing isn’t a chore.
“I wish I was as brave as you,” Henry says with a sigh, “I would be too scared to fight against a Monster.”
“He wasn’t....” Tommy’s chest tightens. “He wasn’t very scary. In the end. When I killed him, I mean.”
“He?”
“The Monster.” And then, “Dream. His name was Dream.”
It feels like a breath of fresh air and a kick in the teeth at the same time. Tommy struggles while Henry takes his hand, suddenly aware of his distress.
“He wasn’t very monstrous either, when it came down to it.” Tommy has to laugh, something choked, tired. He still remembers the look in Dream’s eyes, remembers the gashes and bruises all over his body, remembers how easy it had been to fight him, in the end. “I wasn’t exactly heroic. Was easy to kill him.”
“What was he like?” Henry asks quietly. “The Monster?”
I’m not the best person to ask, Tommy wants to say, but he thinks it’s a lie. He might be the best person to ask — fucking hell, he might be the only person to ask, considering he seems to be the only one even saying Dream’s name anymore, never mind talking about him. “He was.... He was a bad guy,” he says finally, when silence stretches out in the house, “but he wasn’t always. He did a lot of bad things.”
The Disk War, Doomsday, killing him in prison. The list is long and bloody, and it’s hard to be honest and unbiased for the next part.
“But, in the beginning, he did— he did a lot of good things, too. He was bad, but most of us were bad in one way or another. He was just really bad.” Something bitter tugs at Tommy’s lips in a half smile. “We kind of made him the Monster when he was actually just a not-great person. We didn’t realise until....”
“Until you killed him?”
Driving a sword through a chest, the last flicker of life in green eyes. Tommy comes to a sharp stop, setting the work numbly down on the table and steadying himself with his free hand against the wall. Henry’s grip on his other hand is tight, secure. “Until I killed him.”
“Why did you kill him?” Henry asks, and there are a lot of answers he can give. Instead, Tommy shakes his head, mute for a second. I don’t know, is his answer, not because it’s the truth — the truth would be because I had to or because he was evil, both of which aren’t true either.
“He hurt people I care about,” Tommy says, gnawing on his lip, “a lot of people I care about. And he was going to hurt them again.”
Henry’s hand in his tightens. “Why didn’t you just hurt people he cared about as well?”
“‘Cause that would be bad,” Tommy tells her, and scoops her up, to hide his own shakiness and the fact he needs someone close, and to ignore his traitorous thought of because they never cared for him in return, “and we’re not the bad guys, right? We’re—”
“The heroes!” Henry cheers, beaming, but she still looks troubled. “Tommy, what if we have another Mons— Dream? Where someone nice turns bad and then they die? What if it happens to one of my friends?”
Tommy’s heart aches. “I won’t let that happen, alright? That’s— That’s never gonna happen. We’ll make sure of it. And if it does, then we’ll... we’ll help them. We know how to, now. We could help ‘em properly.”
Pandora’s Vault is long gone, after all. They’ve all had a learning experience with Dream.
“But it won’t happen, I promise you, okay?”
“Okay.”
And Henry wriggles to get put down, skipping away when she’s set on the ground, with a careless I love you! thrown over her shoulder. Tommy repeats it without thinking, trapped in his own memories.
A beach, a prison, a church. Unbidden, his mind creeps to building Church Prime with Dream, the laughter, the fun. He feels sick. He misses him. Or maybe he’s glad he’s dead.
“Fuck you,” he whispers, but he doesn’t think he means it, so changes his intention, “fuck you for dying on me.”
That feels more real. Stricken by his own thoughts, Tommy buries his head in his hands, unmoving in the kitchen. It’s a long time before he has the strength to pull himself together, longer until thoughts of Dream fade from his mind that evening.
(Dreams of the Monster come back to him as always. Tommy wakes up, face drenched in tears, and wonders who he’s crying over: the monster, or losing his old friend.)
MGAU - Rosie’s Element
Characters: Rosie, Daisy, Nia, Mavis, Rebecca, Emily, Thomas (Minor), Henry (Mention), Sir Topham Hatt (Mention)
take some LORE! theres more to the magical girl squad than just weapons :0000
Rosie and Daisy were sitting together in Daisy’s garden, watching the frogs hop past and the stream babble along and the leaves sway in the breeze. Everything was a magnificent green; flowers offered splashes of color and illuminated the bright landscape.
“Something you get with being a magical girl,” said Daisy, “is powers.”
“What kind of powers?” asked Rosie.
“Oh, y’know, powers.” Daisy laughed at her lack of explanation. “But for real, you find your element and that element enhances your physical abilities. Ever wonder how Emily can do all those flips and jumps without breaking a sweat?”
Rosie nodded.
“Her element is Wind. Air’s manipulated to give her boosts when moving.” Daisy plucked a flower from a nearby bush, cradling it in her hands. “Mine is Life. It’s honestly the only reason this garden isn’t dead yet.”
Rosie laughed too, leaning over to look at the flower. “What can you do with your element? Besides, well, gardening.”
“Good question, mon amie.” Daisy poked Rosie’s nose playfully as she spoke. “And the answer is, you never know. Magic manifests itself in mysterious, fickle, uncontrollable ways.”
“What does that even mean?” Rosie asked.
“Well...hm…” Daisy thought for a moment as she began to think her answer through. “Magic decides what it wants, when it wants, and how it wants. It’s just hard to control and will act on its own.”
“Oh.” Rosie was quiet for a few moments. “That sounds difficult.”
“Oui, it’s frustrating at first, but you get used to it. You adapt.” Daisy removed the petal from the flower, and another one grew in its place only seconds after. “You just have to think how your magic thinks.”
“...magic thinks?”
“For lack of better words,” said Daisy. “It chooses what it wants to do, rather than you. I’m not sure why, but Nia said she’s been studying it.” She paused, then gave Rosie another boop on the nose with a smile. “Something tells me you haven’t figured out what your element is.”
Rosie smiled back at her. “How so?”
“You’d know at least some of this, then.”
“Alright, alright, you got me,” Rosie said with a laugh. “How do I figure out my element though?”
Daisy put her hand to her chin in thought. “I found out mine through meditation. Why don’t we try that?”
Rosie nodded and crossed her legs and shut her eyes. Five minutes passed. Then ten. Twenty. Twenty-five. Thirty. Rosie concentrated long and hard on finding her element--or, her element finding her--but didn’t have much luck.
“I don’t think this is working,” Rosie said, finally.
Daisy shrugged. “Why don’t you ask Nia then? She’s been researching magic.”
Rosie nodded and stood up. She bid farewell to her friend and went on her way to find Nia.
~~~
“Yeah, and then she told me to ask you, since you’ve been looking into magic,” said Rosie to Nia. Nia was hard at work repainting her engine, while Rosie sat upon the loosely constructed fence. “So...what is your element?”
“Fire,” Nia answered. She kept her focus on her work, choosing not to demonstrate her power.
“I thought you had Wind too. Since, like, you and Emily both were good at all those acrobatics,” said Rosie.
Nia perked up. She loved explaining this aspect of her ability. “Well, it all begins with how hot air is less dense than cold air, causing it to rise. I heat the air to give me a boost! Well, my magic does, hehe.”
“Makes sense, makes sense.” Rosie nodded. She did not understand at all. “So...you and magic are separate, yes? How does that work?”
“Think of magic like...a dog. It’s its own being, y’know? But you can teach dogs tricks, like how you can teach magic to help you,” Nia explained.
“Oh, that sounds easy!” Rosie smiled.
“Mhm, it’s pretty quick to get the hang of. Our powers are granted by Lady, so, y’know, they like to do good things.” Nia turned around. Her overalls were stained with orange paint, but she didn’t mind. “What’s your element, then?”
“I’m...not sure, actually.” Rosie rubbed the back of her head. “That meditation session with Daisy didn’t really tell me anything, hehe.”
Nia put her hands on her hips and thought for a moment. “Maybe you were forcing it. Magic is fickle.”
“So, how would you recommend I find my element?” Rosie asked.
“I found my element while working. I was having trouble getting my engine’s fire started, and boom, there it was,” said Nia. “So, maybe you’ll find yours when working on the railway. After all, Lady is a goddess of the railroad…”
“You’re right,” Rosie said, and she bid her friend farewell in order to get ready for her next shift and continued on her quest to discover her element and master her magic.
~~~
The next day, Rosie worked long and hard on the railway. She shunted trucks and passenger cars. She brought empty trucks to the Ffarquhar Quarry, where she stopped to have a chat with Mavis while she had spare time.
“Element?” Mavis raised an eyebrow as she took a sip of her cola. “Yeah, that came pretty easy to me, I guess. But I wasn’t working when it happened, nah.”
“So...how did you find it?” Rosie asked.
Mavis hummed to herself as she thought. “Well, I was arguing with my brother, and uh, well, the ground started shaking. Guess I got so pissed my magic took note.”
Rosie blinked.
“Yeah, it was weird.” Mavis then laughed. “I had to lie and say Sodor is on a faultline so that’s why it happened.”
Rosie laughed too, but she wasn’t quite sure why it was funny. “If I get really mad, maybe I’ll find my element,” she said.
Mavis shrugged. “Try me. Get pissed.”
Rosie scrunched up her fists and face and thought very angry thoughts. She thought about the magical beasts threatening life on Sodor. She thought about Ska and how her physical form was taken from her. She thought about how Sir Topham Hatt was a capitalist. Her thoughts were very angry.
Mavis laughed. “Sorry, sorry, you look like you’re taking a shit.”
Rosie stopped and laughed, and laughed, and laughed. Mavis was right.
“Hm, maybe you should try asking Rebecca,” Mavis suggested. “She found her element in the middle of a fight with my dad.”
“Really?”
“Yeah! Big guy came home telling me how cool it looked,” Mavis said.
And once their break was over, Rosie entered the driver’s cab of her engine and went on the search for Rebecca.
~~~
Rosie met with Rebecca at the end of the work day back at Tidmouth Sheds. The sun was setting over the sheds, reflecting off the murky brown pond water nearby.
“Roro!” Rebecca smiled and greeted Rosie with a hug. “Do you need something?”
Rebecca hugged too tight, causing Rosie to let out a quiet squeak. Nonetheless, she hugged back. “I’m trying to find my element, and Mavis said you might be able to help.”
“Oh, really?” Rebecca let go and tilted her head to the side. “I don’t think I’ll be of much help with this.”
“C’mon, every little bit helps!” Rosie took Rebecca by the shoulders and playfully shook her back and forth.
“Alright, alright-!” Rebecca put her hands over Rosie’s to stop her from continuing to shake her.
Rosie stopped and listened to Rebecca’s story.
“Alright, so I was in a fight with Dayton, yeah?” Rebecca leaned back against the wall of the sheds. “By the beach. And he retreated into the water since, oh, let’s be honest, Daisy would’ve killed me if I got my dress wet.”
“Hehe, she would’ve.”
Rebecca kept speaking. “That was when my magic kicked in. The sea split, and Dayton was so in shock I could just walk up and whack him!”
“It was that easy?” Rosie asked.
Rebecca nodded.
“Can we try?” Rosie added.
“I think I’ll kick your ass,” said Rebecca, “But I don’t mind a spar.”
That was when Thomas, their coworker, walked by. “A spar?” he asked.
“I’ve been taking fencing lessons,” Rebecca lied. “I was going to show Roro a thing or two about the basics.”
“Woah! That sounds sick!” Thomas said. “Can I watch too?”
Rebecca could only laugh and nod, though she really didn’t know much about fencing. She only knew the swordplay Nia had shown her, and she hadn’t practiced that at all. Nonetheless, she tried her best, and her best was enough to convince Thomas that she knew how to fence.
The sun then set over Tidmouth Sheds, and Rosie and Rebecca each returned to their own home to rest the night and begin tomorrow’s day.
~~~
On her way to work the next morning, Rosie stopped to chat with Emily. Emily lived down the lane, in a neat little apartment, and over tea they spoke. Emily brewed better tea than Henry, Rosie noted. Both brewed bitter teas, but Henry’s always had a salty taste.
“So you’re looking for your element,” Emily said with a sip of her tea. No sugar, no milk, just pure black. “I think I was the first to find mine.”
“And how did you find it?” Rosie asked.
“Hmm…” Emily paused for a moment in thought. “I sneezed. Silly, I know, but that was when I first noticed it showed up.”
“That’s weird. So, it was just random?”
“Yeah, pretty much. Sneezed, then accidentally made a small tornado,” Emily explained. “If you’re looking for your magic, I suggest you take it slowly. You can’t really force it.”
“I know…” Rosie sighed. “It’s just, it all sounds so cool, y’know? Nia’s fire, your wind, Rebecca’s water, Daisy’s life, Mavis’ earth...I just am pumped to see what I wound up with.”
“And you’ll find out soon, don’t you worry. It’ll come with time,” said Emily. She gave Rosie a pat on the shoulder.
“Waiting is boring.”
Emily laughed. “I’m sure it is. Why don’t we go cause some confusion and delay to take your mind off of it?”
Rosie could only laugh too, and she nodded.
That day at work, Rosie shunted slower than usual and mixed up the order of Henry’s passenger cars and trucks. Henry and Emily thought it was very funny, but Sir Topham Hatt was cross. However, Rosie was in the union, so there was nothing Sir Topham Hatt could do about her minor mixups on the rails.
~~~
That evening, Rosie curled up in her bed after turning off the room light. She had enjoyed the past few days. She got a joke fencing lesson from Rebecca, had a meditation session with Daisy, learned about magic and elements with Nia, shared drinks and jokes with Mavis, and had fun causing confusion and delay with Emily. She didn’t know her element, but she was happy.
She turned over in bed to turn on the lamp on her bedstand. Perhaps she’d finish reading that book Henry loaned her that night. However, just before her hand hit the switch, the lamp turned on.
This was her magic. Electricity. With an excited grin, she picked up the book and began to read, illuminated not by the work of a power station but her own power.
