Damian doesn’t like Jon anymore. Sure, this new guy who walks and talks and looks like Jon may be parading around wearing his face. But Damian knows Jon. Jon was one of the few people Damian enjoys tolerates being around voluntarily. Not out of familial obligation or expectations that grew into mutual respect, but simply a feeling of relaxation that comes with being in his company. And whoever this person is that Jon Kent supposedly grew up to be, it’s not Jon.
Jon Kent’s eyes are bright and at first glance, seem like the epitome of happiness. But Damian doesn’t realize how people don’t look behind them, how people don’t see the pure hunger and determination written into every aspect of him. The need to prove himself, to show everyone that no, he’s not just another Superboy after Conner. No, he’s not Superman’s son. He is Jon Kent, and he’s bold, brave, and powerful. He’s the kid who stood toe to toe with a child assassin, looked him in the eye, and demanded respect. He’s projects life out of every pore of his body, and he knows exactly who he is, who he wants to be.
This new Jon is quiet. That’s to be expected, he is older after all, but it rubs Damian the wrong way. This new Jon puts on a near perfect front of maturity, of self-assurance. That’s part of the problem. Jon never used to put up a front, put on a mask. His face was clear, and he showed everyone exactly who he was. This new Jon pretends to have grown up, but he’s scared. He’s insecure. He’s quiet in all the wrong ways. In reality, he doesn’t like the way he grew up, he doesn’t like the way he left his friends behind. He wants Damian backing him up, the way he always did, but he thinks he’s not supposed to need that help anymore. He feels like he doesn’t belong, too advanced for the present and too retro for the future. His confidence, the thing that drew Damian to him in the first place, is gone.
For the first time in his life, Jon is afraid of Damian. Even when he was a kid, he was one of the few people who genuinely wasn’t scared of him. Damian might be violent and abrasive and rude to everyone around him but he cares. He doesn’t let a lot of people in, but when he does, he’ll do just about anything to make sure they can stay safe. Jon saw this, the first time he met Damian. He wasn’t entirely sure if Damian let him see that side of him, or maybe he’s just naturally better at reading Damian than most people, but that little hint of love and care is what made Jon give him a chance, what pulled him to follow Damian on his adventures and go along with his plans. He was never scared of Damian, because he had nothing to fear.
Now? Now he’s terrified. Because Damian’s withdrawn. Ever since he’s been back, their dynamic’s been thrown off. Jon expected that, of course he did. He just never realized how much. Damian looks at him with suspicion in his eyes and withdraws from his touches. The trust that Jon worked so hard to gain was waning.
Damian’s become erratic. Part of Jon wants to drag Dick down here to shove some sense in him, but Dick’s apparently lost his memory. So Dick was gone and Jon was gone and Alfred’s dead and Damian’s lost his anchors. He’s falling apart, he’s given up on Robin because he’s bought into his mother’s lies. He thinks he’s a weapon, a thing built to kill, to serve. There’s no one to remind him of his humanity anymore.
So Jon’s scared. He’s scared that Damian’s forgotten he’s human, he’s scared Damian’s gone past the point of no return. He’s scared Damian will do something he’ll regret. He’s scared Damian will do something and won’t regret it at all. And he’s absolutely terrified of Damian finally closing the distance between them for good, finally pushing Jon away one last time. Finally moving on from the idea of friendship. And Jon’s scared that no one will ever be able to bring Damian back.

your mobile header is simple but so aesthetically pleasing (i love the different shades of blue so much) and your blog reminds me of the 19383883 headcanons i have regarding our fave bat-family, like how bruce panics and feels paranoid every time he sees all of his sons getting along (especially damian and tim)) and how alfred probably just stands back and laughs at him while sipping his cup of tea haha. i hope you’re having a lovely day/night because you deserve it 💙💙

you know what i want? i want some more of that time when jack drake benched tim after he found out tim was robin. specifically, i want jack drake having to deal with the fact that his son is robin.
oh he’s angry. his son goes around beating up criminals and breaking the law and he knows batman. but the thing is, batman and robin have been these distant, almost mythological figures for so long. gotham thinks of the duo as heroes, as not as people. and jack drake didn’t realize what exactly constitutes as being robin.
jack can’t hear his son anymore, not unless he wants to. granted, he had always been a quiet child. but now, his footsteps were completely silent. his breathing was almost nonexistent. his voice could carry across a room if he wanted, then shroud itself in fog, muffling it instantly. tim would just suddenly appear, at the kitchen counter, in the office, next to or behind jack. jack never saw him coming. and when jack reminded his son of these things, albeit a little shakily, tim blinked in surprise, as if he wasn’t even aware he was doing these things.
there are scars all over his body. objectively, jack knew that. batman and robin fought brutally, of course they would be injured. seeing the marks littered all over tim’s skin, however, is another matter. there are slashes and stabs. puckered skin that looks like a bullet hole. clean lines with little hashes, a nicely healed and well-taken-care-of injury. ugly, jagged streaks that scream pain, that jack felt nauseous seeing, let alone having the strength to bear it. tim acts like they’re normal, acts like assimilating all these scars were a mark of progress, a mark of strength. he rubs lotion on them a couple nights a week, falling into a routine. there’s a story behind each and every one of them, a life saved behind each and every one of them. jack doesn’t know whether to be somber or relieved at the fact that tim will never tell them to him.
tim’s reflexes are catlike, his instincts sharp, his mind always working a split-second faster than anyone else’s in the room. jack will accidentally drop something, and tim will catch it out of the air, easy as breathing, and hand it to him. as a test, jack dropped a ceramic mug filled with coffee on purpose. it landed in tim’s perfectly outstretched palm, not a drop of the drink spilled. tim was still on his phone with the other hand, but he looked away enough to raise an eyebrow at jack. jack didn’t question how tim knew he had done it on purpose. tim knows things, things that he has no reason to know, until he explained how he knew them. he had all of jack’s nervous tics memorized, apparently, and picked up things from other people uncannily accurately. dana poured acceptance and affection into the kid, and jack loved her for that, but he knew that tim scared her, just a little. jack was left wondering when his son had become the modern-day sherlock holmes.
and tim knew people. he’d casually reference batman or nightwing in a conversation, acting as if he knew them personally. which. well. apparently he did know them personally. but it wasn’t just the heroes from gotham, no. someone had once called tim while he, jack, and dana were cooking dinner together, sort of a bonding activity. tim had answered, then put the call on speaker, then continuing to chop a couple vegetables. (he looked far too comfortable with a knife in his hand. tim flipped it between his fingers and in the air with an ease and grace that made it impossible to tear his eyes from. and he wasn’t even trying.) then the sounds of an explosion came in, causing jack and dana to flinch, but tim didn’t even more. apparently, the flash was calling him, all the way from central city, where he was fighting killer robots, and asking for advice because apparently, someone named ‘bart’ had told the flash (the! actual! flash!) that tim had worked out a way to defeat them once before. tim advised them on how to get under armour platings and where the weak spots were while mashing potatoes with a fork. then tim said goodbye and good luck with a cheerful tone before hanging up. because apparently the flash calling him was something that didn’t faze him anymore. jack never said anything about the pictures hanging up in tim’s room, of a too-small kid in a robin suit, a boy in a leather jacket and an earring, someone more hair and goggles than boy, a girl with a confident smirk flexing her biceps, a girl with a bow and arrow, and a literal ghost. he also didn’t say anything about the photos of tim and that boy in the leather jacket, just to two of them. in those pictures, tim was laughing harder than jack had ever seen in his life.
tim was still his son, but he wasn’t entirely himself. jack couldn’t get rid of robin, no matter how hard he tried. tim moved like a predator when he was just walking down the stairs, a new grace in his movements. his eyes flicked to all possible exits any time he entered a room. he was no longer afraid to walk the streets of gotham at night, treading calm and sure even as jack and dana hurried quickly home with their shoulders bent.
his son was important. his son was powerful. his son walked and talked and laughed amongst gods, and they showered him with respect. jack was beginning to think he was foolish for ever believing he could take robin away.
tbh you cant just tell your superhero-vigilante son to stop superhero-vigilante-ing and expect him to be normal. superhero-vigilantes aren’t normal.

Headcanon- Birdflash Besties
Requested by @offendedfishnoises I love you to the moon and back, Fish! Theres a second HC coming right after this, because I’m in a wally west mood.
A/N: I’m so horribly sick and I cant even tell if this was actually good, but it got me in my birdflash heart. @river-bottom-nightmare sob with me.
Comments are always appreciated!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-       Wally and Dick are absolute madlads. When they’re together, good luck to anyone around them.
-       Dick and Wally spend endless hours on the manor. Not in it; ON it. These two geniuses like to climb the exterior and walk on the roof. Dick gets a kick out of giving Wally a little heart attack by doing flips on the roof tiles.
-       Once, Dick almost slipped and Wally freaked out and rushed to catch him, but the little surge of lightning blew the power out of the manor. Needless to say, they ran to central city for a bit.
-       Wally calls Dick for fashion advice. Dick will always tell Wally he looks fine as is. He’s not used to Wally being in anything other baseball tees, and sweaters.
-       Dick canonically hates dressing up for events and wearing ties and junk but over time he’s learned to accept that he has to. Not at all because they make him look hot.
-       When Wally was coming to his first gala, back when they were kids, Dick had to begrudgingly fix Wally’s bow tie. He did it only once and Wally memorized it. From now on, when Dick get lazy and unwilling to get dressed, Wally forces him to put on his suit, and hand ties the bow tie for him. Sometimes he tries different colors.
-       Dick has a favorite sandwich shop in central city and when Wally misses Dick, he’ll go to that sandwich shop and order Dick’s go to order.
-       Sometimes, Wally will order two sandwiches and speed to Gotham city. The first time it happened was cute.
-       “Hi, Alfred….is Dick here?”
-       *smiles* “He’s on the basketball court.”
-       ***
-       “Hey…...!”
-       “Wally? What are you doing here?” Dick was surprised but happy as heck. He wanted to spend more time with Wally but was afraid to ask or bring it up. One of the perks of having an emotionally stunted dad is that you’re afraid to ask for companionship.
-       “I was at the sandwich shop you liked, and I thought I’d bring this over!” He looked so happy. The emotion was evidently contagious because Dick cracked the biggest smile Wally had ever seen and all nerves melted away.
-       They walked along the manor grounds eating their sandwiches and played a game of horse after. Special rules: No flipping, no superspeed.
-       It became a normal occurrence after that. Wally speeds over and Dick just greets him with “Aww you missed me.” And big sarcastic grin.
-       Dick keeps Wally’s favorite snacks scattered in his room, the yj headquarters and the titans tower. Even in his car.
-       Dick has actually randomly taken a train to central city at 2:00 am to go see Wally after he came back from a long mission because he really missed him.
-       Little did he know, that Wally called Alfred to ask if Dick was back yet and when Alfred said he went to the train station, Wally made his way there and waited for the 3:00 am train arriving from Gotham.
-       Neither of them were even surprised to see each other when the doors opened.
-       “How rough was that mission? You look like crap.”
-       “Gee, what a warm welcome.” And then they hug and head to his place where they catch up over the bottle of beer.
-       Dick feels emotionally exhausted if he spends too much time around other people. He needs time alone in a day to recharge.
-       The only person who doesn’t drain his social battery is Wally because Wally is the only person, he doesn’t have to put up the “smooth easy-going cool guy” persona around.
-       Dick is the only person Wally truly opens up to.
-       They keep a change of clothes at each other’s houses and spare supersuits.
-       Wally and Dick once saved a baby bird in a park outside the hall of justice and every time they visit, they check on the nest.
-       After 3 years of constantly checking, they’ve found that the baby bird grew up and built its own nest in the same tree and even had babies.
-       They named that bird and call it their child.
-       They know each other’s coffee orders and will bring each other coffee and muffins by default if they’re meeting early.
-       Wally has a pair of nightwing swimming shorts and Dick has a pair of Flash swimming shorts. They will wear them to the pool together and never say anything about it. They were matching gag gifts.
-       Dick takes lattes with espresso shots and cinnamon, and Wally takes coffee with a dash of creamer. Wally always takes blueberry muffins and Dick will take a croissant. They never actually told each other the orders. They just kinda picked it up.
-       Wally always knows when Dick isn’t feeling well, and Wally is the only person who can convince Dick to take a break.
-       Dick has felt he’s had to prove himself his entire life to everyone. Wally is the only person who’s been his constant and their friendship isn’t conditional. They both know that.
-       When Dick “died”, Wally ordered Dick’s favorite drink at a bar every night even though he couldn’t feel any effects of alcohol. He also suddenly found himself taking lattes with espresso shots.
-       When Dick came back, Wally gave him the “Ohhh, who said ‘Do me a favor and don’t die again’??? YOU DID. And look what you went and did! Died. That’s hypocrisy. You’re a hypocrite! Omg, how could you?! I love you so much dude, don’t you ever do that again! Get yourself a helmet. Jason’s got the right idea. Never leave me again.” All while he’s hugging Dick so tight, he may have stopped breathing.
-       Meanwhile Barbara and Conner and everyone else is waiting so meet dick after his return and they just can’t because Wally is hogging him and twirling him like a rag doll. Dick just accepted it. So did everyone else.
-       These two have adorable little mementos. The first bullet that dick ever had to pull out of Wally on a mission was turned into a penny and gifted to Wally on the anniversary of him joining the team.
-       Dick goes through a lot of domino masks, but Wally kept the last one he used as Robin in a little case with Flash symbol that was on his Kidflash suit. They both look at the case as Nightwing and the Flash.
-       They are besties to end of time and long after.
