The Scar Chain Arc (1/2)
Tumblr media
Mochi had a heavy amount of involvement in the Scar Chain Arc, mostly due to his relationship with Azuma Genkaku. For two years before the start of the main series, Mochi had already been working with Genkaku in exchange for drugs, candy, and testosterone. This also included sleeping with Genkaku for most of those two years, the two in what could barely be deemed as a relationship.
In reality with Mochi’s violent instability, and the fact he killed without a single ounce of remorse, for Genkaku he was a temporary placeholder until he could get “convince” Owl to the side of the Undertakers. Mochi, desperate for any form of connection, found himself latching onto Genkaku despite knowing that the man was likely using him. Mochi was effectively a weapon for the Uber Monk, going where ever the man pointed him.
Another reason Mochi was so close to Genkaku is due to the two knowing each other post earthquake, before either of them ever went to Deadman Wonderland. After the earthquake, Mochi attempted to kill himself to avoid going into foster care after his family, nor their remains, were never found. His attempt landed him in one of the few functioning psych wards near the Tokyo area. Of course the hospital was neglectful of most of its patients, Mochi being no exception. He was able to wander to the rooftop where he was planning to jump and attempt to take his own life again. It is there he would meet Genkaku for the first time, who was also placed in the psych ward while the courts attempted to process his case.
Mochi would proceed to stop Genkaku from jumping, unsure of why he did. The two would stand at the top of the rooftop, swearing to one day be the one to “save” the other, each taking completely different meanings from the encounter. They would spend more time together in the psych ward before Mochi’s release.
“If you want to save people, then...why don’t we save each other one day? That be reason enough to keep going I think.”
However, Genkaku would forget about this meeting. Mochi, didn’t, and while he didn’t recognize Genkaku at first, it only took him a few months around the man to realize why he had felt so familiar.
Its also worth noting that Mochi grew extremely close to Hibana during this time as well. Coming to think of the girl as almost like his own.
This included going to Scar Chain, and joining with Nagi’s rebellion group as a mole. Of course by this point, no one was strangers to the rumors of Genkaku and Mochi’s relationship. However, Mochi is quite the skilled liar and manipulator, and made it out to seem as though he was only using Genkaku for his own vices, and to try and find his own way out of Deadman Wonderland.
Essentially, Mochi replaces Rokuro in the Scar Chain arc, just with more of an actual purpose for betraying Scar Chain in that his loyalties were with Genkaku, and he had an intense hatred/jealousy of Nagi given that Nagi was the one Genkaku truly wanted. Mochi also disliked Ganta from the beginning, only starting to respect him a bit after the two fought in a Carnival Corpse against each other. Not enough to not try and kill him when given the chance.
Mochi’s traitorous actions are revealed much in the same way as Rokuro, he betrays Nagi and lets him get captured, Shiro destroys the data chip/bomb, Mochi returns to headquarters with his temper out of control, revealing everything he had been doing. Calls in the other undertakers to help “take care” of the problem. Feels...slightly guilty over it because he did like some of Scar Chain, Karako included.
“Fuck you, fuck Nagi, and fuck this entire fake martyr shit Scar Chain has going on. Do you know how much it pisses me off that you think you’re helping people?”
Takes off the second Senji shows off Invisible Black where he makes his way back to the Undertaker base. Meets up with Genkaku there where the two proceed to have an...incredibly messy “break up” which I will talk more about tomorrow but its late and I’m tired so i’ll wrap up here for now.
